OH WOW! I got NAILED with a puck today!

i have had a few blackened puck-shaped bruises in the thigh area directly below the jewels, but never took a hard shot directly to them. i feel for you man. the good news is you'll almost definitely be ok if you were wearing a cup. an ice bag to the jewels will help a lot,if you can stand it. 10 minutes, 3-4 times a day. -
i would love it if tucker was our left guard as he is one of my favorite bills...provided he continues to improve. he's still not good enough to start for a playoff team imo.
-
i'm not saying you CAN'T have a good team without a high payroll. but it puts some teams at a disadvantage. the fct that a few small market teams have played well despite that is to their credit. but it doesn't make it a fair system. as a small market fan, i want a hard cap that all teams can afford. then when the sabres suck, we'll know who to blame.
-
detroit...rangers...philly...those teams will spend to the cap and still gain an unfair advantage over teams like buffalo. not that sabres don't share some of the blame with their sh------- drafting over the years, but it sucks when your favorite team already has 2 strikes against it like that.
-
but aren't the sabres hemorraging (sic?) cash with that payroll? i don't think golisano ever intended to put up with annual losses of $10million just for the privilege of owning the sabres. maybe i'm wrong, but i think he was biding his time until the league could impose a hard cap that was much much less than the owners last offer...something the sabres could afford to pay every year and still break even.
-
my concern about this deal is that it would resume hockey under terms within which the sabres STILL cannot be competitive. isn't 46million (or 42 million) way over what the sabres can pay and still turn a profit? if that's so, i don't see what good it does. i'm for cap that all the teams can afford, so that our team has a shot to buy some decent talent once in awhile (since it can't seem to draft any).
-
i'd be happy if we upgraded that position..

taking our colors away didn't help... -
Has there ever been a TBD t-shirt made up?
jester43 replied to buffalomike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i've always wanted a tbd race uniform...i already have shorts that are the right color of navy...all i would need is a white dry-fit singlet with the logo. i think i would look damn good winning the masters division at the buffalo and/or niagara falls marathon sporting my TBD racing team colors. -
Bleedsoe the starter fro next year
jester43 replied to SlamnSam's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i agree. no way i just let bledsoe walk because he doesn't want to compete for his job...f that. if i am mularkey i show him the steeler tape and just shrug my shoulders. how can a "future hall-of-famer" play like that in a game where everything is on the line? and how can someone who plays like that expect anything BUT an open competition for his job? AND WHY OH WHY intentionally weaken the team just because drew is a nice guy? -
We have clamored for it....now I just hope that
jester43 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
this whole thing is really weird to me...as frustrating as it has been to watch bledsoe, i think the bills are crazy to grant him a release rather than make him stay here and MAKE him compete for his job. i mean sh--, what are we going to do when our p.o.s. o-line(probably won't get upgraded this year either...bills seem to think it's not really that important) gets losman killed? you know it's going to happen the way that kid runs around. and at least with bledsoe, you know he can take a hit (all but one, at least). mark my words, losman is going to miss at least 6 games....either he will get himself clobbered, or our line will. then what? charlie batch? it's already looking like another year with no playoffs... -
How would of you handled this?
jester43 replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
in about 86 when i still lived in philly, i had a bud that lived on 50th and locust. he was black. his street was sort of the "dividing line" between where white guys should, and should not go. i didn't have the advantage of being all jacked up on weights or packing heat like navy bills fan, so i was always very careful when i walked to his house. i was 5'9' 140lbs of burning love...but other than being able to run really fast, my superpowers were limited. so we are hanging out at my pals house watching nba one day(remember- back in the 80s, it was still fun to watch), and someone decided we needed more beer. so duran(my friend) says lets walk to the deli on 52nd st. i thought that might not be so smart for me, but he said "nah, i know the guys that hang out up there. it'll be fine." so we walk the two blocks and when we go inside the place is full of mean looking black guys...everyone is wearing kangols and chains and expensive adidas. i'm thinking to myself aww...how cute, they like run-dmc! they look like they are just hanging around doing nothing. no one's buying anything. the poor little chinese guy behind his bulletproof glass is wheeling the beer, snacks, subs, etc. around to his customers on one of those thick plexi carroussels so there's no way the barrel of a gun can make it through to rob him. everybody looks real nervous and quiet and starts checking us out reeeeeeal close. the biggest meanest looking guy in the place walks up to me and says what do YOU want? he is like 1 inch from my nose. before i get a chance to answer him, sombody behind me goes "21 jump street!" i thought that meant we were about to get jumped, but sudenly duran laughs out loud and says "aw cmon man, are you kidding me?!" everyone kind of stands down after that, we pay for our beer, and leave. when we get outside, my heart is beating like hell, but i am not quite sure what happened. all i know was that i was was almost beat up...i thought it was for being white. i say to duran, "you KNOW those guys?" he says, "umm those aren't the same guys...i haven't been up here in awhile i guess." well, if you hadn't figured it out yet(i still hadn't), those guys were dealing drugs out of the bulletproof chinese deli. the "the 21 jump st." comment was a reference to a really bad tv show of that era(a show that i had never seen) in which a multi-ethnic group of very young police officers would go undercover to bust drug dealers. so i guess these guys had been watching too much tv because they thought we were !@#$ing cops. i was like 20 years old, duran might have been 22. sheee-it. -
what about garcia? - more lenny p

i don't know why we would want to pick up someone else's garbage, when it's no better than what we have now. if losman is not ready to start next year, i'd rather start a sucky qb that knows what is going on (bledsoe)than one who doesn't(every other name i have read). although i will say that garcia is the least revolting of the options i have read here today. charlie batch?! sheeee-it. -
It's no secret, kiss Bledsoe good-bye...
jester43 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if charlie batch is our quarterback the 05 season is over before it starts. there is no way in hell this happens. i will gladly take another year of bledsoe over anyone mentioned in this thread. -
that would be smart---hopefully everyone knows not to kill the goose that lays the golden egg...

uh oh....anything having to do with the term "motherboard" sounds terminal... well as i sit here and type this out on my friend's IBOOK, i believe i see the future...its time for an upgrade... and i think i will start looking for some m80s to solve the problem with my compaq..

i actually printed that page out earlier today and am going to try it at home tonight. john from hemet: i tried that last night, but u can't even get into safe mode before it shuts off! i am starting to think buying a mac is the best solution, because while this thing is not the end of the world...i still can't figure out how i got it, and if i bought a new computer and got it again, THEN i would be pissed!
-
i am using win98...problem is the computer shuts down before the dos bootup is completed. i can't get to safe mode, and i can't execute any other commands. after doing a little research, i am starting to think it may not be the "bymer" virus after all- i have gone to several sites, and while they do show the bymer as operating under the command "wininit.exe," none of them describes it as causing immediate shutdown of the computer before it is fully booted. i soldier on...
-
you're right...that describes it perfectly...i have "variant A" the instructions for removal are a little over my head at this point. i am about to google it( so please no one yell at me, or send me the link to "effinggoogleit.com or whatever.... ) , but does anyone know a forum where i can get a simpler explanation of the removal process? i STILL may throw the computer off the balcony just on principle alone, but for now i am enjoying the challenge of solving this problem. and there still is matter of just how the bloody hell i got it... ...still trying to figure that out... anyway, thanks everyone for your input. i am convinced there is almost no problem you can't solve by hanging out at TBD.
-
well, i hit "f8" as labillzfan suggested, tried to start in safe mode and it shut down. then i picked option 4...which was something like "single command mode" or somesuch...it is the one that runs all your startup commands one at a time and forces you to pick a "Y" or "N" for each. if you hit Y (for yes), it runs the command and asks you if you want to do the next one. after some trial and error, i isolated the command that was causing the machine to shut down. when i got to it, i hit "N" instead of "Y." this was good, because it didn't run the command, and therefore the machine did not shut down, but i have no clue what to do next. i thought maybe i could just bypass this command and move on to all the others and maybe the procedure would culminate with a successful startup, sans virus(i can dream can't i?). but it never gave me any other commands after i picked "N" so now i am at a dead end. oh well... and i don't think the site referring to the ms blast worm applies to me because i am still running win98. i think i will print this thread, then go home and try to do what mickey and joesixpack suggested.
-
thanks a lot...i'll give it a try when i get home... i just wish i knew how the hell i got it!

no wonder half these guys are dead by the time they turn 60.

i will try to condense this: i have an ancient computer...a 1998 compaq...i run anti-virus software(the free AVG one), never open weird email attachments, and avoid sketchy porno sites( )... HOWEVER, when i booted up the rig a few days ago, i got about halfway through the DOS stuff, when a funky error message popped up(the AVG software had already run and said "no virus found") that ended with the words "press any key to continue." there was also something about a "bad command," and "wininit.exe(i assume this is the virus)" on the screen. when i pressed a key, the computer immeditely turned off, as though someone had yanked the plug. i tried to start it up again, and this time when the message appeared, i DIDN'T press any key, but after about 15 secs, the machine still turned itself off. i tried reinstalling the entire OS from the quick install CDs that came with the computer, but again the machine turned off before the CD drive could even read them. so it looks like my ancient rig is screwed good. i guess i'm not TOO broken up about it- i have been meaning to replace the computer anyway. and i didn't lose any truly irreplacable files or anything like that...but i gotta ask....WTF HAPPENED ?! does anyone out there know? whenever i've done something dumb in the past, i've always at least realized it when i did it, and was able to fix it one way or another....but this seems completely unfixable...and i still have no clue HOW i got infected- that's what scares me. and hell, if you absolutely cannot turn the thing on, how can you possibly fix it??? oh well, i bet it will blow up real good when i toss it off my third floor balcony. before i do this however, can anyone offer any insight??
