The Official Katrina Aftermath Thread

that should be humorous... GW (replete w/ deer-in-headlights look): "guys! dick! what do i say?! tell me what to say!" -
i HOPE he gets his head out of his ass and makes the roster! i don't think mularkey will carry him along just b/c he is a nice guy. i'll just bank on him having a big game this week and leave the rest to the football gods.

correction...today it is $3.40/gallon....mother!@#$ers! i just emailed 2 of my colleagues about starting a carpool. it will be inconvenient for sure, but i figure i can get a few extra papers graded on the way, and use the gas i save to do fun stuff on the weekends.

i have wanted to buy one of those snazzy new vespas for awhile now...the only thing that has stopped me is that i commute on an interstate...those things are actually pretty sharp looking.

in carlisle pa they tacked 40cents/gallon to the price of premium in 2 days...up to 3.20gallon. i drive a mini, so i get great milage (YAY ) , but the damn thing takes premium gas (DOH ). i ALMOST didn't buy it for that reason (got it used), but i thought, "hey...what could go wrong??"

Has anyone heard from CajunBillsBacker?
jester43 replied to Mike32282's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
thaT is a very good idea...i saw it was posted that he's not in the city, the odds are he is just without power. and yes, he is a real good guy. i've chatted with him on and off for about 5 years now. i haven't tried his gumbo recipe yet(tsw cookbook), but i may throw a batch together in his honor this weekend...as i am sure we'll hear from him again soon. although he did say josh reed would be a great receiver for us, so if some of you wanna talk bad abour him now, this might be a good time as he is unlikely to read it . -
next week?

The All Blacks just won the most amazing rugby

i am going to a n.z. job-fair in d.c. in september...just to see...i assume you are there because of the huge skilled labor shortage- from what i hear it is so bad they even need teachers! are you planning to stay permanently?? there are so many great sights! drive south on rt1 toward kaikoura, and when you get to the coastline (near clarence) look to your left as there is a huge seal colony there and the buggers just hang out and soak up rays by the side of the road! here is a good shot of them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60697383@N00/30230265/ and there are a lot more shots of some of the other sights on my friends blog: http://www.kiwikatie.blogspot.com/ if you want any recommendations, send me a p.m. -

i was visiting a friend in n.z. during june and july, so i got to stay in tauranga (mt. maunganui actually) for four weeks, two of which were spent touring the south island by car. i saw so many great sights and really fell in love with the place, but unfortuantely i am back here in PA now. ironically, i will soon be leaving for dulles airport to pick my friend up, as she is moving home today also. she is an audiologist, and the company that recruited her didn't treat her well, so she quit and began doing locum work. the pay was good, but the uncertainty of it and long commutes wore her down and she decided to come back. incidentally, i was there during the British & Irish Lions tour, which was quite a spectacle with all the thousands of brits and irish caravanning up and down the country in their lions regalia. it's funny, for such an intense rivalry the interactions between the sides were amazingly warm and cordial. it's just like when the players beat the life out of each other for 80mins and then shake hands and hug and trade jersies. the only thing i can compare it to is boxers who beat each other senseless and then hug. -

i was fortunate to watch several games with the locals when i was in n.z. ths summer...they taught me the basics and that is all you need to know. good times. -
wow...UNbelievable. 6 lead changes between new zealand and south africa- who btw, are the two best teams in the world (sorry nick). Umaga forced a Springbok error deep in their own end with a great hustle play, which led to the winning try with under 3 mins left. left me screaming my bloody head off at 5am. hope the neighbors didn't hear me. damn what a great sport. i wish we could get some coverage here in the states. trust me you guys, with all the hitting and the blood and the nonstop action (not to mention the great HAKA prior to to each All Blacks game) you can get hooked on this sport reeeeal easy. SOCCER IT AIN'T. worth every penny of the 25bucks i shelled out for a PPV, and better than 90% of the football games i watched last year.

sweet. thanks.

Not Feeling Law School Right Now, Advice?
jester43 replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
dude! suck it up and finish what you started!!! i would never accuse anyone of this without actually meeting them, but you SOUND like one of those (thankfully few) kids who come to me a month into the season and are like, "gee coach...i don't know...all this work...it's just not as FUN as i thought it would be..." the "fun" in these types of situations is the sense of pride when you stick it out and ACCOMPLISH something- fast times if you're one of my athletes, or a law degree if you're you. and you will learn how to DEAL with sh-- you don't exactly enjoy in the process. you don't think this will be the last time you'll be faced with a task you're not all that psyched about, do you? the only reason i can think of to drop out is if you just had an epiphany and you have realized beyond any shadow of a doubt that there is something else that you MUST do now. but if you are just feeling a little ambivalent and slightly bummed about the work- which is what i am hearing- then you need to tough it out and be proud of yourself when you're done. a dear friend of mine just finished a ph.d. 2 years ago and for the entirety of her 4 year program all i heard was how hard it was, how she didn't like the people, the teachers were crazy etc...now she thanks me every day (well sorta) for convincing her to tough it out. -
how come when i click the link i get interviews of spikes and holcomb at st. john fisher?? dammit i wanna hear losman!

you did? cool. i admit i loved the 70s raiders as well (second only to the bills), as it was the only way to get relief from all the steeler and dolphin geeks that infested our poor little town during that era. i cannot tell you how many times i begged for the bills to please hurry up and finish getting their asses beat so i could see/hear curt gowdy call the raiders game.

"baffoon!?" i am still waiting for someone to give me a real reason why madden DOESN'T belong in the hall as a SUPERBOWL WINNING COACH, not a tired old cliche of a broadcaster! i had enough wap! pow! booms! for one lifetime about 10 years ago myself...but you gotta be kidding me if you say this guy was not a seriously great coach. and glenn! you, of all people, are old enough to know better!!
-
that is absolutely true...he deserves to live long enough to either hoist the lombardi trophy or go to canton. preferably both!!
