There is currently 13 WR on the roster, they probably keep 6. Watkins, Woods and Easly (if his knee is ok and because of ST) make it. That leaves 10 guys to compete for 3 spots. There has to be three guys that can contribute.
We forget sometimes that most rookies are kids. Tough year for him, I think he'll bounce back. If he does and they get even adequate play at RT, the OL could be very good.
I don't understand how this thread became contentious. If Hartline was brought in he would have to compete for a job. If he is slow and done for then he won't make the team, if he can still play then he might make the team. What is the problem?

That may be true, however the minute that Sullivan called for Marcell Dareus to be cut for making some dumb, but not terribly egregious mistakes, he labeled himself as a sanctimonious prick.
Why don't you already know? No, as another poster stated, he hurt it last season. This is conjecture, but he probably tried to let it heal on its own, waited as long as he could, thus the surgery now.
