  1. Zay will outplay, Watkins will look elsewhere for pay.

I think you may forget just how good he is when healthy; like 900 yds in the last 9 games of 2015! The guy is absolutely dynamic when healthy. He's taking it easy now so we hope it translates out to him being in top playing shape.. With that, the top caliber production is a done deal.

  2. Will be interesting if Peterman plays well in training camp and preseason games, and a win-now team has their starting QB go down. Would Bills deal Taylor for draft picks and go all-in on a 2018 QB?

The only was Peterman plays is if 1) Taylor goes down, or 2) Peterman absolutely lights it up in pre-season while Tyrod is a big time blah. It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

  3. Well, we need a WR, and LB if looking at need.

Depending on CK and henderson i think it might be nice to add an OT tonight.

i wouldnt be upset at safety and always like DL help.... really, BPA with pretty much ANY position works. just a matter of how the board falls. but im good with pretty much any BPA and maybe tie going to WR if one is there.

I'd be very happy with WR, LB, OT. As I mentioned in a previous post, those 3 plus CB were my necessity selections. One down, 3 to go.

  4. Just want to say that sometimes due to circumstances it may take a while for a receiver to take off.

Consider the following stats from Mould's career, paying special attention to the first couple of years, then look at Sammy, taking into consideration his 3rd year injury. Sure, I know things were a bit different back then, but make the comparison.

  5. Don't have time to go through this right now so it might have been mentioned...because of his speed, and because he can at anytime take one to the house, the D has to prepare for, and account for him. That's in spite of his less than stellar contributions. This helps with the run game and the short passing game. Overall, it's better to have him out there than not. Just wish he added more.

    Thank goodness somebody gets it!

  6.

You know what? You're right, it's frustrating.

At the same time, every team goes through this...Steelers have lost Ben and played their first 3 games without Bell. They don't have Martavis Bryant either.

NE lost Brady to suspension, their 2 backup QBs to injuries, and didn't have Gronk to start the year. They're also now without their best defensive player in Collins.

How do they beat Miami? Play stifling defense, grind out drives on the ground with whichever RBs are in the lineup, and hit a few big plays in the passing game to guys like Hunter, Goodwin, and Clay. Is that going to be easy? No way, no how...doesn't change the fact that it's the only path to victory.

    Good post, my friend.

I get what the OP is saying,,,but you can't be overly upset about Shaq, Ragland and Dareus since they haven't even played a down yet. Just think when they do come back you're plugging in 1st/2nd round talent to an already good D.

Watkins and Shady? eh, they are fragile. I'm surprised Shady lasted a healthy 6 weeks before tweaking something. Other guys will (and have) stepped up. The only player we really can't afford to lose is Tyrod imo. He doesn't get enough credit for what he does out there to keep plays alive.

I hope you crossed your heart and said a quick prayer after mentioning that we cannot afford to lose Tyrod.

  7. Sammy isn't the best offensive player... He might be third best offensive player on this team.

    How soon people forget.

Sammy was the 3rd most productive player in the entire league over the last 9 games in 2015. In the LEAGUE!!

Give him his health he will again be one of the upper echelon WR's in the league.

  8. I know there are a lot of reasons to doubt the guy; well, actually one big reason - injuries. I am not going to say that he will not get hurt again this year, but just maybe he won't. And if he stays healthy, Goodwin absolutely cannot be covered 1 on 1.

Cover him deep, he'll catch 10-12 yarders all day (see Watkins against Revis in game 16). Defend against those short ones and he will be open long; no doubt.

The answer to sort of covering him is zone, and that's fine by me because it opens up all kinds of possibilities.

Say what you want but Goodwin is dangerous!!

  9. I understand what you're saying but we've already had more than our share and the season hasn't started. We will probably have more like all teams and this will only add to the list. We've lost 2 Lawson's, Ragland, Dareus and A Williams in one way or another. That is 5 of 11 projected starters. Sammy and Kyle are question marks. Staying completely healthy from this point forward still leaves us pretty darn dinged up.

Where do you get this crap from?

Lost 2 Lawson's? Yeah, but 1 is for maybe 6 games, and the other just got beat out for a spot. That means somebody better will be playing.

    Dareus? Only 4 games!

    A. Williams He will be back, maybe even opening game.

Sammy is fine and poised for a pro-bowl year.

Kyle? By all reports he is recovered and ready for the season.

Glass half empty, huh? No man, half full!

  10.

    Seconded.

Greg Little cut; I sure as heck do not think so.

Yeah, he has his drops but 6"2 1/2, 220 lbs of muscle, and 4.53 combine time make him a big and attractive target. Watch him run his routes. He seems to either out muscle or out run the defender, and more often than not gets reasonably open quite a bit.

No way in the world I would consider cutting him.

  11. The Bills understand this concept, but plainly they don't agree that Goodwin will never amount to anything. Goodwin has been with the organization since 2013 and the team has watched and coached him in every practice and at every game for which he has suited up since that time. The fact that the team has continued to give Goodwin opportunities--and now have him slotted as the number three receiver--despite his injury history, shows that they think highly of his ability. The Bills, who know Goodwin better than anyone as a teammate and as a football player, are most definitely not on board with your crusade.

Thanks, mannc. That's pretty much what I've been saying for all of training camp, especially since the concussion. The Bills are right to gamble on his health because when he is injury free, he's dynamite.

  12. Perfect example of why we shouldn't give on Manuel so soon is Drew Brees (I am not saying that Manuel is Drew Brees by any way, shape or form, but a comparison can be made).

In recent years, there have been a lot of "NFL ready" quarterbacks coming out of college, but often times NFL QB's take years to develop. Take a look at Brees. His rookie year (late 2nd round pick), he only played 1 game which he didn't start, so let's use his 2nd season as effectively his rookie year.

He started 16 games, went 8-8, hitting 60.8% of his passes, 17 TDs, 16 Ints and a passer rating of 76.9

The following season. he went 2-9, hitting 57.6% of his passes, 11TDs, 15 Ints and a passer rating of 67.5

Everyone in San Diego at this point basically threw in the towel and they drafted Philip Rivers. The following year, Brees goes on to the Pro-bowl and has since been there 7 more times and may even be a HOF'er.

Manuel's stats are not stellar by any means, but realistically not too far off of Brees's in his first year.

4-6, 58.8%, 11-9 and 77.7. The guy is 23, got thrown to wolves and had to deal with a series of non-serious knee injuries. Give him a full training camp and the keys to the car and see what he can do.

Nice post, Coach55, shows that unlike some of the opinions on the board, Manual´s stats were not to terrifically bad. I think that I would settle for another cool Brees.
