  1. I just don't understand this franchise. I don't understand why we keep attempting these half way rebuilding efforts instead of just tearing it all down and starting over. This team is not a playoff contending team. What should have happened this offseason was a full on purge of the Bills roster. We should have gotten rid of Kyle Williams. We should have let Tyrod walk. We should have traded Shady, Incognito, Wood and Clay for whatever we could have gotten for them. We should be in full on rebuilding mode going into this season. Start the rookie at QB and see what we have in him. The Bills should be trying to get a top 3 pick in next years draft. There are going to be franchise QBs available in next years draft that we have to make a play for.

Currently the Buffalo Bills seem to be content with running a high school offense centered around an above average running game. The problem is that Tyrod can't throw the ball over the middle and he can't seem to run any sort of play action. This offense is not set up to win every week and that isn't going to change with Tyrod at the helm. The Bills need to move into this century by getting a Qb that can actually throw the ball. To do this, their best bets are to be drafting in the top 3 in next years NFL draft. The way this roster is set up right now we are probably a 5-7 win team. That will put us out of range for a top pick and will continue our path down mediocrity lane. At some point this franchise needs a complete reboot. Now is that time. The Bills just haven't embraced that reality yet and it will cost this franchise dearly.

I'm sorry about your affliction can'tseedon'tunderstand-itis!

  2. i can't imagine that it takes much prep time to be ready for a Tolbert running play. I still don't see changing from a McCoy to a Tolbert style RB is any sort of an advantage... unless Tolbert is really good, that's all that matters. What's so special about him gaining 3 yards in a pile of dust as opposed to McCoy ready to break one every time he touches the ball.

That's 4 yards and a pile of dust. Hmm, 1 yard makes quite of difference.

  3.

This is where I am at - I think he is a good fit. I think he can set the edge and collapse the pocket - I do not think he will be beating guys based solely on quickness or anything.

Somewhere between 6-8 sacks is a nice place to start and hopefully just some consistent play and he will be just fine.

I just want to see him get better and be healthy.

    Good post. I agree.

  4. There are lot of doom sayers on the board, and it's not that I don't respect their opinion; it's just that I don't agree. Look at it this way: last year we had the 10th best scoring offense, and considering that the receiver position, with Watkins' out for half the year and sub par for the other 8; Woods missing substantial time, leaving Goodwin as the healthy guy; well, the trio of a healthy Watkins with the additions of Zay Jones, and Andre Holmes just have to be superior. When you add in things like a more seasoned Tyrod, an improved O line, and in all probability better coaching, well, IMO signs look pretty good for a very good offense.

On the much criticized D, the switch to a 4-3 is a winner! The line has a good chance to be one of the tops in the league. LB's have new blood with high potential, and the DB's are stronger in 3 of the 4 spots.

I know, lots of guys belittle the posts of an admitted optimist, but I believe that with good health, my projections above have an excellent chance at fruition.

  5. I agree.

As far as the thread topic is concerned, arm strength isn't the end all be all but it is important and that can't be discounted. A lot of Petermans passes look like he floats the ball, which are easy pickens for a NFL db. I don't think he can throw the deep out, from what I've seen.

You know, I just watched the recording of the Bills no punt game in the early 90's and Jimbo, is by far my favorite QB of all time (here comes the sacrilege) but I'll tell you one thing, Kelly never put much zip on the ball in that game. Of course all he did was throw for like 400 yards.

  6. There are a lot of comments about Peterman having a noodle arm - accurate, yes, but weak. The consensus is that with less than stellar arm strength he can only progress so far; like back up QB or maybe a borderline starter, with the club necessarily always on the lookout for a better guy who can really get the ball out the way it should be - with plenty of zip.

I have watched a ton of Peterman highlights and have always wondered what those naysayers were talking about. In the highlights that I've watched I have seen a lot of 35-45 yarders with what seemed to me to have a good deal of power behind them, and one that was exactly 50 yards, right on the money. I was trying to find that one so I could post it here for all the doubters, but instead found this one. Go to Nate Peterman 2015 Highlights - YouTube and you'll see at the 12:05 mark, a 53 yard toss, from the opponent 45 to his 2, right on the money for a TD, with a 1 step-up delivery.

Have a look and then tell me that he'll be limited by his weak arm. You might check out the entire tape to see a lot of excellent throws.

  7. I really enjoyed the video. Peterman looks solid and has a good command of the pro style offense. He appears to go through is progressions and he hangs in the pocket, despite pressure, to make the throws. He floated a few, but for the most part, displayed good accuracy. He has the makings of a solid NFL QB, but not likely a major star. Could be a reliable career #2, but may have starter potential. I can see the arm strength issues that are known to be part of his profile, but only time will tell. Somewhere I saw him compared to Chad Pennington, who had a good career as an NFL starting QB. He moved the chains and scored some points, but didn't overwhelm anyone with his athleticism. More impressive was Zay Jones. He was all over the field and made catches of all types. He displayed size, speed, hands, route running and a nose for the end zone (I think I saw 2 TD or 3 TDs, although one may have come back on penalty). Looks like the Bills made a couple of good draft picks.

There is a vid of him somewhere, if memory serves me right it was about 6 minutes or so in length. Anyway, Peterman throws a deep one with just 1 single step into the throw. Well, guys, I played it over like 4 or 5 times just to make sure I had the distance of the throw calculated right. Yep, exactly 50 yards and pretty much right on the money.

Need a bigger arm than that? I don't think so.

  8. Zay will outplay, Watkins will look elsewhere for pay.

I think you may forget just how good he is when healthy; like 900 yds in the last 9 games of 2015! The guy is absolutely dynamic when healthy. He's taking it easy now so we hope it translates out to him being in top playing shape.. With that, the top caliber production is a done deal.

  9. Will be interesting if Peterman plays well in training camp and preseason games, and a win-now team has their starting QB go down. Would Bills deal Taylor for draft picks and go all-in on a 2018 QB?

The only was Peterman plays is if 1) Taylor goes down, or 2) Peterman absolutely lights it up in pre-season while Tyrod is a big time blah. It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

  10. Well, we need a WR, and LB if looking at need.

Depending on CK and henderson i think it might be nice to add an OT tonight.

i wouldnt be upset at safety and always like DL help.... really, BPA with pretty much ANY position works. just a matter of how the board falls. but im good with pretty much any BPA and maybe tie going to WR if one is there.

I'd be very happy with WR, LB, OT. As I mentioned in a previous post, those 3 plus CB were my necessity selections. One down, 3 to go.

  11. Just want to say that sometimes due to circumstances it may take a while for a receiver to take off.

Consider the following stats from Mould's career, paying special attention to the first couple of years, then look at Sammy, taking into consideration his 3rd year injury. Sure, I know things were a bit different back then, but make the comparison.

  12. Don't have time to go through this right now so it might have been mentioned...because of his speed, and because he can at anytime take one to the house, the D has to prepare for, and account for him. That's in spite of his less than stellar contributions. This helps with the run game and the short passing game. Overall, it's better to have him out there than not. Just wish he added more.

    Thank goodness somebody gets it!

  13.

You know what? You're right, it's frustrating.

At the same time, every team goes through this...Steelers have lost Ben and played their first 3 games without Bell. They don't have Martavis Bryant either.

NE lost Brady to suspension, their 2 backup QBs to injuries, and didn't have Gronk to start the year. They're also now without their best defensive player in Collins.

How do they beat Miami? Play stifling defense, grind out drives on the ground with whichever RBs are in the lineup, and hit a few big plays in the passing game to guys like Hunter, Goodwin, and Clay. Is that going to be easy? No way, no how...doesn't change the fact that it's the only path to victory.

    Good post, my friend.

I get what the OP is saying,,,but you can't be overly upset about Shaq, Ragland and Dareus since they haven't even played a down yet. Just think when they do come back you're plugging in 1st/2nd round talent to an already good D.

Watkins and Shady? eh, they are fragile. I'm surprised Shady lasted a healthy 6 weeks before tweaking something. Other guys will (and have) stepped up. The only player we really can't afford to lose is Tyrod imo. He doesn't get enough credit for what he does out there to keep plays alive.

I hope you crossed your heart and said a quick prayer after mentioning that we cannot afford to lose Tyrod.

  14. Sammy isn't the best offensive player... He might be third best offensive player on this team.

    How soon people forget.

Sammy was the 3rd most productive player in the entire league over the last 9 games in 2015. In the LEAGUE!!

Give him his health he will again be one of the upper echelon WR's in the league.

  15. I know there are a lot of reasons to doubt the guy; well, actually one big reason - injuries. I am not going to say that he will not get hurt again this year, but just maybe he won't. And if he stays healthy, Goodwin absolutely cannot be covered 1 on 1.

Cover him deep, he'll catch 10-12 yarders all day (see Watkins against Revis in game 16). Defend against those short ones and he will be open long; no doubt.

The answer to sort of covering him is zone, and that's fine by me because it opens up all kinds of possibilities.

Say what you want but Goodwin is dangerous!!
