I will say this. Whenever McKenzie is a big role in the offense, teams never really have someone to cover him effectively

The big thing is his speed and nervous tic quickness.  Hard to stay with him!

  2. I'm on this site every day of the year reading but rarely start a new post, but since there is a great potential problem this week, and I have seen almost nothing on it in other posts, well, here it is.  What is the status of our OL??  Dawkins, Ford, Williams, Feliciano, Brown?

Does anyone have a projection who is in, who is out, and who is playing where?

Super important this game and has been on my mind quite a bit.

Because those are the facts.  The Bills were one of the 2-3 SB favourites starting the year.  They were still the favourites 2-3 weeks ago.  They have been okay health wise (Tre White notwithstanding) and to this point have been meh imo.

They've already stumbled a few times and they should have learned from those.

Yes a little hyperbole, but explain to me why they should not win Monday night and what it says about them if they do lose a game they absolutely must.

The Bucs were 7 and 5 after 12 games last year.

Yes, an actual 1-tech is what we needed, most particularly a space eater for 1st and 2nd downs to get the blockers off Edmunds and Oliver, and that's what Star is. Would they rather have a guy who can also rush the passer? Yeah, that's logical. Would they rather have one who both eats space and then is able to make tackles as well? Almost surely. Would they have to pay a hell of a lot more for that kind of unicorn of a guy? Yeah, they would.

Does Star do what they need him to do, to eat blocks, singles and doubles, to not be pushed back, to clog things up in the middle? Yeah, he does. Again, they knew what they were getting with Star. They'd coached the guy for years. They knew what they needed and they brought in Star to get it done. Star or a guy like him is what they needed.

As for injuries, if he misses a bunch of games this year, you'll have a point. Missing just one so far is not a big deal.

Phillips, Butler and Zimmer are all decent 1-techs, Harry and Zimmer probably more so this year, but they're not the same type as Star. They're all more capable of penetrating and filling holes and less capable of being a space eater. I wouldn't want to see them only those three all season, but in one game against an OL that doesn't appear to be very good, I think it should be a good test.

And as for his pay, there just aren't that many guys who can do a really good job as a space eater. Those guys do get paid, and not much less than Star. Second contract FAs who go in the first week or so do tend to get overpaid a little bit. If you need a guy to come to Buffalo after a mediocre year when Tyrod was your QB, you settle for that.

Let's not forget that in Phillip's rookie year, after just a few games, he was taking 50% of the 1-tech snaps.  That is that in his rookie year he was already on the verge of taking the lion's share of snaps.  After the serious injury he suffered, last year was just about getting healed and adding to his strength and learning.  Reports say that he is a bit bigger and stronger than ever before. This year it appears that he just might be fully healthy and as such IMO he just might be a step up from Star.

This is absurd. A 1000 Yd wr, that’s a top 3 slot man in the NFL and you won’t be upset when we cut him? Because of some dumb Twitter BS? Sorry, but that’s complete garbage IMO.

I think Beasley looks ridiculous right now. I find most of what he’s saying very off putting. But with that being said, let’s not get things twisted. This dude gutted through 3 games with a freaking broken leg. Plenty wouldn’t have. The man loves the game and his teammates. The bills are a lesser team without him. Hands down.

You must know, though, that a lot of Beasley's great stats last year were due to Josh's tremendous advancements in finding and hitting the open man.  Lots of good receivers become open for certain points in their routes, and it's up to the QB to learn how to hit him at that point; Josh has.  In short, IMO while Beasley is very good, he can be suitably replaced without a great downgrade in passing efficiency.

As many of you know, one of my favorite sights is a 350 pound DT in the red, white and blue. It's been too long, so unless Star is putting in the work in the dining room this offseason, it's time to find some guys with God-given enormousness. Size is uncoachable. The anger and rage will come the first time they drive the William/Walden section of the 90 on the way to the Galleria.

Last night's game reaffirmed, once again, the importance of line play. If we had been in the game it would have looked pretty much the same EXCEPT everyone would be all over Josh Allen for "melting down" and saying it should have been Mahomes and it would have been different, the Bills were pretenders, etc.

Now everyone can plainly see: even the new Rodgers (supposed "best QB in the league") needs blocking and a defense on the other side.

Luckily, there are some compelling prospects in this draft, and I think it is imperative that we get one large angry man on the OL and one on the DL.

The perfect fits, both 2nd or 3rd rounders:

Aaron Banks, Notre Dame guard. 330 pounds, tough, smart, strong. Good run blocker. Should be there in the 2nd or maybe even 3rd round. Can play either guard spot.

Tedarall Slayton, Florida DT. My prototypical favorite DT. 6'5'', 343 pounds of run stuffing, double team block taking behemoth! Put him next to Oliver and all of a sudden Oliver can get some pass rush because the big man is eating up blocks. Oh, and you want to run up the middle? LOL Good luck, because we can put Star and Slayton next to each other in those situations.

And if the big man gets free up the middle because you focus on Oliver? Bad things, man...

The Bills have a lot of pieces in place. But what we need now is some more size and strength on the lines, and a commitment to imposing our will and being physical. Added bonus: for 4 years we're not spending big $$ on guards or DT's.

Really perfect timing.  At 9:54 AM today I emailed the following to my 2 sons (big Bills fans, of course).

    Guys

I supposed that you watched at least some of the Super Bowl yesterday and if you did you saw a drubbing.  Tell you what; the domination was based on one thing, line play.  The Bucs DL-men lived in Mahomes' face all night.  OTOH after the first series or two Brady had lots and lots of time.

My point?  DRAFT LINEMEN!!  Yeah, like at least 3 or 4 of them.  Along with free agents the Bills should bolster the DL by a couple and OL by a couple.

    That's it!!

Inigo, the WGR guys have been asking the question for weeks, “what would make this a successful season”

Ive said since before the season to win the East, and win at least one playoff game.  I’ve felt that would be progress and we’ve exceeded it.  We are one step away from the SB and their QB is dinged up at least as far as we know.  It sounds like from the news today the concussion may not be an issue, but tbd.  The toe though could slow his mobility down, maybe.

I don’t if I’m relaxed and calm, but there’s nothing I can do about the outcome of the game, so why worry. Then again, I was excited, but not worried about the last two games.

Seems to me that after SUFFERING through 4 Super Bowl losses anything other than a win in this year's big one will be another disappointment.

Josh has been pretty good as of late reading the defenses and sifting through the wrinkles.... I think and I hope that we light them up and give them a taste of there own medicine for all the stuff they’ve done to us through out the years

The worst thing about all the drubbings they have handed us over the years is that near the end of games where the Pats had the game all wrapped up they still kept piling up the score just to make it look they were the world beaters and were far far better that us, and by extension, everybody else.

I say do it to them!  Kick their ever lovin' butts to hell and back.  Bellecheat deserves it!

Lost in all the talks about our defensive drop off is the fact that even after the bye week our D is 8th in sacks and 6th in turnovers.

... One would think having a knack for those things could have a large impact on a rookie qb. Especially with 2 weeks to prepare.

    Good point, Nasty.

Feels like a let down game for some reason... "Bad" Chargers team but if you actually look at them, they have a lot of talent and just throw games away.. Lost to a lot of good teams by 1 score..  Could easily be a .500 team.

Coming off a bye I hope we aren't flat...

I disagree, I believe we've turned the corner and we'll win out.
