Looks like the Patriots found themselves a diamond in
afcfan1 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The point is they draft for depth. If you have a large number of rookies making contributions in a given year, it most likely means you have a sorry team. And yes, I would call any draft that nets you the Rookie of the Year a great draft. -

Slow LBs???? Guyton was the fastest LB at the combine last year and Mayo was 2nd. A Thomas is extremely fast. Aging team??? Brusci, Springs and Taylor are the only real regulars one would consider old for their positions, and they are not going to be expected to be every down guys anymore. As for RB and Maroney being a bust... They realize that RB is one of the most overrated positions in the NFL. You do not need an absolute stud at that position to win games. Didn't some guy from the Patriots with like 20 names run for over 100 against the Bills last year. As long as the Hoodie is there, they are going to be the favorites in the AFC East. -

I wouldn't say that at all. Last year for example, Mayo, Wheatley (before he got hurt), Wilhite, and Crable (before he got hurt) all were making contributions. The Patriots drafts are always solid, but they are very deep and just don't have as many holes to fill as most teams, so a lot of the bottom tier rookies don't have much of a shot of making their roster. They just stick them on the practice squad for insurance to injuries. -
How do the Bills justify taking Maybin over Orakbo or Oher? Have you seen the pictures of this guy? He looks like a beefed up WR, not a DE. Even his highlights are not impressive. He's had 1 year of success in a mediocre - sub-mediocre conference. He is going to be physically abused by NFL OLmen. Love the Wood pick, but our OL is in sad, sad shape. Who is going to play LT...L Walker? He is a well below avg RT. There is no way he can play LT. Why do the Bills not seem to get what most other NFL teams already know? You build successful teams with the DL and OL. You can't get by with nobodys and other teams' castoffs playing on the line. I truly feel sorry for Trent this year. He is going to get killed.

Why in the world do you think the Pats start to slide this year? Because they get Tom Brady back? Because they brought in proven veteran RB, WRs, TE and CBs and had, by all accounts a solid draft? Granted this is on paper only, but on paper the Pats are a much better team than they were last year. They also aquired two additional 2nd round picks for next year's draft, giving them 3 2nds and a 1st next year. Hate to say it, but the Hoodie is playing the proverbial game of chess, while everybody else plays checkers. As for the Jets...Please take a look at their WR depth chart before anyone talks about them being on the rise. They are relying on a 1 year starter and QB and 1 solid starter and a bunch of nobody's at WR. This division is going to come down to the Fins and Pats again.

Whitner has been charged

I have "dealed much with the law", and Dante will be dropped by the Bills before the charges are. -
Whitner has been charged
afcfan1 replied to Delete This Account's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is no way they are going to drop the charges. That would be saying they tased him for no reason. The charges are what justify the act of tasing him. If Dante is serious about filing a lawsuit, I would bet there will probably be additional charges. He'd do well to just let this rest and take whatever punishment comes to him. I'm sure Dante was being an idiot and deserved what he got. Common sense says at 3:00 AM, after a buddy's b-day party, Dante was probably hammered and being a meathead moron. -
Whitner's such a beast!! I bet WRs, TEs and RBs are just shaking in their boots after hearing that. A little evidence of Whitner's beastliness in the link below... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yuh6G7MVsOQ

Would you trade Peters for Lions #1 pick?
afcfan1 replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem with Bills fans is the unrealistic value they place on Bills players. Do you honestly believe Jason frickin' Peters is worth the #1 pick in the draft? The Bills have very few players that other teams would have any interest in. The list would be Stroud, Evans, possibly Lynch and Peters ( but not for the #1 pick in the draft). The rest of the Bills players are avg to below avg players that nobody has any interest in. Unless the Bills front office completely changes the philosophy of bringing in nobody free agents and drafting blindly, Bills fans are going to be watching the same boring talent-starved team. -
I fully understand the excitement!!! The Bills are a single TE from being a great football team. Either that, or they are a QB, non-criminal RB, OL, DL, entire LB core, and an above avg secondary away from being avg.
-
Let's just focus on the positions where the Bills are probably below the NFL avg in terms of talent. OL DL LB S TE QB At least the Bills have one heck of a punter.

Both games we played against NE last year were close...
afcfan1 replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is not complicated. The Bills lose because they have much less talent, and they have no coaching. That is not going to change this year. I love all of the "we're always close" talk. It's the NFL, games are usually pretty close. Bad teams lose close games. The Bills are bad. -
"on paper" this team is terrible. Horrible O Line, unproven QB, cancer / ancient WR, no TE, criminal RB, bad D Line (exception of Stroud), shameful LB core, avg secondary. This is the Bills in a nutshell. Add in horrendous gameday coach Jauron, and you've got a recipe for last place AFC East.

You don't need to be a soothsayer to know how this season is going to go. TO has an entire career that lets you know what the Bills have in store. Following a team that seems to have no sense of direction, and makes moves solely out of desperation can be extremely frustrating.

Homerism is fine. Homerism w/out logic = ignorance.
-
I have been reading through quite a few of these posts and I am becoming more and more amazed by the level of homerism in this forum. People in this forum want to completely discount TO's entire career worth of evidence as what is about to come this year, and when journalists/websites/commentators suggest that TO is going to do what he has always done (destroy the locker room), they are accused of being "Bills Haters". Do people honestly believe that people like Mike Florio or Chris Mortensen have an agenda against the Bills? I mean who is likely to be more biased, NFL journalists/commentators, or the people in Bills forums? News flash, the majority of the NFL world does not care about the Bills. The Bills have become insignificant in the minds of people outside of Buffalo. This move was made out of desperation by both parties. The Bills needed to generate interest, and nobody wanted TO. Everyone in their right mind knows how this story is going to go. I know, I know, TO is always fine during the 1st year with new teams. That is because he has always gone to teams that were already successful. The honeymoon period lasts longer when your winning. TO is now joining the worst team he has ever joined. Once the Bills enjoy their first losing streak, does anyone really believe TO is just going to be a trooper, keep his mouth shut and rally the team together. No. He is going to do what he has always done at the first sign of adversity....throw everyone and anyone he can under the bus. The Bills and TO are a terrible combination...a team going nowhere and a player who seems to be the only person who doesn't know his skills have declined. Can't wait.

He sure looked like a terible coach last year????

I feel that the T.O. Spotlight will raise the bar....
afcfan1 replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No worries. I'm sure TO won't do anything like that...you know, get jealous on the sidelines and distract the team. How people on this board can suffer from such extreme homerism, and think all is going to be well with TO is frickin insane. You are completely ignoring a career's worth of evidence showing you how this story is going to go. Oh I know, he's always fine in his 1st year. Most of that is because he has always joined winning programs, and everything went well at first. He is now joining the worst team he has ever joined, and he seems to be the only person that doesn't realize his skills are declining. That is an absolute recipe for disaster. As soon as he is not putting up the kind of numbers he used to, he is going to throw some Bills under the bus and pass blame just like he always has. If you all take off you Bills fan blinders, you know how this is going to end. -
Coverage of T.O. not in attendance
afcfan1 replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what you get when you sign a guy like this. How could this be surprising to anyone? Because of his past behavior, everything he does is going to be scrutinized much more than anybody else. It's only going to get worse. He has spent a career making his bed, he has no choice but to sleep in it. -
Your comparison will be more valid after this season. TO has never quit, but he has always been on teams that were successful before he got there. The team had something to play for. One could argue that his getting half the locker room against the other is what brought his teams down. Moss went to a terrible team where everyone knew they had nothing to play for and no chance of being successful. TO is going to probably the worst team he has ever been apart of. We'll see how he handles knowing by Nov. they have no shot of making the playoffs.
-
Let me ask you, where are all of the teammates who came out talking about how detrimental Randy Moss was to the team. Sure, he may have sulked while in Oakland, but he never came out and verbally destroyed his QB while there. Go ahead and create a list of the players Moss has thrown under the bus in his career, and then do the same for TO. See which one is longer. Also, Moss is simply more talented than TO. So the comparison is a younger, more talented and less divisive player vs. an older, less talented and extremely divisive player. That is why it is not a good comparison. The risk/reward ratio is heavily in Moss's favor.
-
Terrible comparison. Randy was never known to berate teamates and divide a locker room to the eatent of TO. Also, Randy was going to a winning program with leaders that would have no problem keeping him in line. He knew they had won without him, and they would have no problem letting him go if he was an issue. Finally, he's 4-5 years younger than TO and catches everything thrown at him (unlike TO). Like I said in other posts, the real TO is going to come out during the 1st multiple game losing streak the Bills have

Being absent from camp is not what makes him a cancer, it's his entire career that makes him a cancer. Any Bills fan who thinks this is going to work out is ignoring a career's worth of evidence to the contrary.

A proposal for league realignment
afcfan1 replied to keepthefaith's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So while the Bills were successful, the rules were cool, but now that the Bills are the NFL's version of the Kansas City Royals, we need to change it up? How about this. Get a better coach, draft better and go after proven veteran winners that have a little gas in the tank left. That strategy seems to work for the teams that try it, but the Bills insist on bringing in talentless high character guys, or talented no character guys. A good start would be to bring in somebody like D. Brooks. Sure, he's a little long in the tooth, but he's a true professional, he's been successful and won. Some of that professionalism may just rub off on the younger Bills players. Instead, the Bills bring in a guy like TO, who also may rub off on younger players, but not in a good way. -
The "Accuracy" of Mock Drafts
afcfan1 replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mock drafts are for people like Bills fans. Those for whom this is the happiest time of year. Because we all know when the season actually starts, we are going to see the same colorless, boring, no shot of making the playoffs football team we see every year. So please Bills fans, enjoy this time. Optimism is in the air and still several months away from becoming the reality that is Buffalo Bills football. ENJOY!
