  1. His resigning with the Fins only makes me want him more. Miami made a wise decision.
  2. The plain fact of the matter is if the Bills win, people will buy tickets at prices comparable to any market. You cannot blame it on poor economy. Blame it on trading away talent because people don't like to watch their favorite team lose. That's the bottom line. Win and people will pay to see games, especially in a depressed region. Lose and who wants to, especially in a depressed region?
  3. The fact that Matt Cassel can step in and lead the Pats to 11 wins just shows that Tom Brady isn't *that* good. Granted, he is one of the premier quarterbacks of the era, but he is not Peyton Manning. Any NFL quarterback, when given that kind of time to throw, is going to carve a team up. Tom Brady is a great QB but the credit for their success more than anything belongs to their O line, which was assembled by....Belichick and co. I despise Belichick but without question he is the most effective coach in the league today, perhaps ever.
  4. No offense but I really don't give a crap whether you or anyone else thinks the guy has earned it or not. I don't feel like any player in the NFL is really "earning" their salary so that is a moot point. What I do know is that tackle is the #2 most important position in football and we should pay for a good one. No reason not to give him an incentive laden contract, and there is also no reason to expect to get adequate play at the position unless we are willing to offer adequate compensation for it. Give DJ a team that has enough talent to win before you criticize him. No team he has ever coached could boast a lot of talent, including his 13-3 Bears in '01. So you guys can play the blame game all you want but I realize that 7-9 was overachieving for those Bills teams considering the level of talent they had on the roster. That being said, I have no complaints with DJ and expect him to take full advantage if he is given the weapons to compete.
  5. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true We have the cap room to get Jones and the other guy with the more difficult to spell/pronounce name. They are the 2 biggest needs we still have. SIGN THEM NOW for flip's sake and lets go win a super bowl. The Bills have the opportunity to turn a solid-very good off season into an amazing-possibly best ever off season if they strike now.
  6. It does not require a genius or a great amount of football wisdom to understand how a cover 2 scheme works. Granted, per each team that runs it there may be different players filling different responsibilities in the scheme, but really the scheme itself is going to be the same. In a cover 2, that means a 2 deep zone which is vulnerable to deep passing attacks but that takes away the short and high percentage game. If you can pressure the quarterback, this defense works really well. Without pressure on the QB, you get toasted. It really doesn't matter who plays which zone, its a zone - you sit in it and read the offense. I do not think any NFL linebacker would have much difficulty learning how to sit in a zone coverage(physically being able to cover the guy who runs through that zone obviously is a different story, but in the case of coverage, smaller and faster is almost always better), its just a matter of knowing which zone to be in on which play, and that comes with repetition. In terms of responsibilities and assignments, the Tampa 2 is one of the simplest defenses you could possibly run, but thanks for your assumption that it is somehow challenging to understand the underlying concepts behind a cover 2 defense.
  7. If this deal goes down, moorah! We would be sitting pretty on defense. A solid starting corp and pretty nice depth to boot. I would have zero complaints until and unless the season shows Maybin and/or Byrd can't contribute like we are all hoping. Do this deal immediately, and follow it up with an acquisition of somebody who can play LT. Give Levi Jones a massive incentive laden contract or trade picks for an established LT. For flip's sake please don't start the season with Langston Walker at LT. I like Trent Edwards and I want him to live long enough to have children and grandchildren one day. The list of positions we need to upgrade continues to dwindle and more and more the talk is of adding depth - which is ALWAYS the sign of a good team. Two more positions and what appears to be great signs that one of them will be filled...we are getting close. If we signed Pisa and Levi Jones, we would be left with a roster with no glaring weaknesses anywhere and pretty substantial depth throughout. We would have game breaking skill position players, and what should be a very solid defensive line. Add to that premier special teams play, and the Bills could be for real.
  8. What an incredibly ignorant statement to make. Have you ever been a part of the game day prep/coaching? How are you even remotely qualified to comment on such? Are all of your positions in life based on speculative assumption, or are you capable of actually verifying and supporting your statements with facts? This is the typical BS that we see regarding Jauron on the MB that proves that Bills fans are stupid.
  9. The Bills issues these past years have so obviously been personnel issues that if you can't see that you are too stupid to hold a valid opinion. I'm not saying I think Jauron is a great coach because he certainly has never shown that, but to try and blame him for the Bills mediocre performances is mind bogglingly ignorant. You simply cannot compete in the NFL without competitive talent and the Bills don't have that. Vince !@#$ing Lombardi would have went 7-9 with recent Bills teams, so just shut the flip up about DJ already. Stop trying to make excuses for the fact that your favorite team JUST PLAIN SUCKED. They sucked because they didn't have good players, period. For the Bills to go 7-9 with the rosters they had during Jauron's tenure, in my mind, is an amazing testament to his coaching ability. Get the f*** over it already. You people who think it's Jauron's fault the Bills lose are probably the some ones who think Jason Peters isn't good and who think Roscoe Parrish is, once again highlighting the fact that your opinion is not valid.
  10. I played MLB in high school, and I can tell you from personal experience that typically in games where I was making 20+ tackles we were getting beaten badly. The reason for this is because I was making tackles down field that should have been made by other positions closer to the line of scrimmage. His number of tackles reflects only that he played for a mediocre defense that wasn't making plays, not that he was a great player himself. The more telling statistic would be how many first hits did he have where he didn't make the tackle? That's the number I'd like to hear.
  11. lol. A paraplegic mongoloid could be called a tackle if you really wanted to, but to suggest the Bills have adequate talent at the position is just absurd. In fact, it is plain stupid.
  12. Bills fans are dumb. I have come to that undeniable conclusion. First, it was not DJ's fault we sucked last year. No coach can win without talent, which brings us to point number two: Our offensive line stinks. I'm sick and tired of people trying to convince themselves that Brad Butler and Langston Walker are good. I'm sick of people saying "I'm happy with our line the way it is" It is ignorant beyond compare. We all know that if the Bills don't address the O-line, we are going to get mauled. Granted, we have two nice rookie prospects, but they are interior linemen and ROOKIES that are going to get beat more often than not while learning the pro game, no matter how good they end up becoming. But neither of those guys does sh-- to mitigate the fact that we are looking at the worst tandem of starting tackles in the NFL today, and possibly in NFL history. And yes...it *IS* that bad. No really, it's bad. So just stop the Brad Butler/Langston Walker Blow-a-thon already please ok? Because it is making me and every non-Bills NFL fan sick. All that being said I have to say I think the Bills have enough weapons to compete even with horrible play at the tackles. Our defense should be solid and our offense will have big strike capabilities which will net yards just because people won't be able to cheat us on defense, but if we had a say pro-bowl caliber left tackle we could probably be considered a legit SB contender.
  13. God almighty, thanks for that. Been a while since I had a real good laugh. Tim Tebow has collegiate champion written all over him - but no team is going to draft him with a high first round pick. There are 2 reasons Tebow has been successful at Florida: 1) receiving corps that no team can cover, 2) a dominating offensive line that allows him to run that mid-line option between the tackles. He will have neither luxury to the same extent in the NFL due to the much more competitive nature of the league, and hence will never be as effective. Also, it is Tebow's feet that makes him a real threat, not his arm. He has a solid arm, but nothing to ejaculate over. He burns people on big passes because they have to load up the box to stop the running game/mid-line option and then Tebow scrambles a little bit and chunks it deep. This offense will not work in the NFL, and spread QBs never seem able to play up to standard when they are working in an offense that is not overwhelmingly more talented that every defense it lines up against... All that being said, Tebow still is a better pure QB than Sam Bradford. You mark my words. That guy is going to flop worse than Alex Smith, and I don't care what ESPN thinks about him. He is a spread QB, and there actually is a logical reason why spread QBs always appear so much better than they are, but I won't go into that in this post.
  14. Exactly. Regardless of how successful of a career he has, you have to wonder how much the pick will help win games. Case in point: the Kansas City Chiefs. Let's not even start to pretend Pettigrew will ever approach Tony Gonzalez, but even if he does, how much has Tony helped the Chiefs win? They've had a few decent seasons but no sustained success and no super bowls. And this is the undisputed greatest TE to ever play the game. Perhaps Pettigrew will dominate the league and be considered the 2nd greatest or even the greatest ever to play before its over - the question is why do you wager a solid 1st pick shooting at one of the smaller squares on the dartboard? The only time it makes sense to do this is when you have a solid roster with no glaring weaknesses, then you go after a Pettigrew type player to put you over the top. I just don't believe it is a good idea to ever consider TE a top priority when you have other holes to fill, much less to try to rebuild a program around one. We shall see if the next few years prove my words.
  15. I just wanted to take this opportunity to rub it in the faces of all those who wanted to draft Pettigrew in the first round, and especially the ones who wanted to do so at #11. I knew there was no chance in heck of the Bills drafting a TE in the first two rounds...as did anyone else with an ounce of football knowledge, so nah nah nah nah =p. Anyway, just look at the Lions. They got him late in the round so at a much better value, and the fans are so chagrined by it that they are booing the guy on stage. Even Lions fans understand that you don't draft TEs until all your important positions are filled. Pettigrew is a much better value to the Lions than to any other team, but I still think they should have addressed other needs, and I understand the Lions fans sentiment over this pick. Anyway thanks for reading this pointless thread.
  16. Umm...there could be no better way to mitigate any advantage the Pats line has due to experience than by wearing their experienced asses out...no system could possibly be better suited to a young offensive line who's greatest advantage is their youthful energy...it is a fantastic idea.
  17. Just for the record there actually *is* a difference between not having the guts to throw a deep ball and realizing that throwing into consistent down field double coverage because your #2 receiver can't garner any respect from the defense is a good way to get picked off (as evidenced by Trent's extremely low interception total from last year). Before teams started double covering Lee Evans on every play from scrimmage Trent was throwing it deep well. He demonstrated arm strength and accuracy on his deep passes consistently early in the season last year. I promise that he did not lose his ability to throw, but rather that teams realized they didn't have to respect Josh Reed and could double Lee Evans every play. And you idiots keep insinuating that the guy is a bad QB. Well I hope you choke on it while you watch Trent in the Pro Bowl next year. And to insinuate that his injury against the Cardinals affected his game is totally brainless because the very first game he played after that was against the Chargers, and was also his most impressive game to date. So there goes that theory.
  18. I don't see how anybody could think the Jets are going to be better than the Bills. Too much ESPN for you people. If the Bills can avoid major injuries they will win at least 10 games. But that assumes we make an acquisition to play tackle for us this year, which I'm assuming the Bills realize they have to do in order to be competitive (at least I hope they see it that way) - if we go with our current O-line we could be in trouble unless those guys can really pull of a miracle. Bills 10-6 Pats 9-7 Fins 7-9 Jets 5-11 I know everyone will think I'm crazy for picking the Pats to finish this low, but I have a hunch that everything isn't going to run like greased owl sh-- for them this year. As far as the Jets and the Fins being so good...I am totally unconvinced. Just remember you read it here first.
  19. Nothing. He doesn't need to. All the hype about TO is media overblown BS anyway. I think Buffalo is an ideal situation for TO and he knows it too. If the Bills realize any success, I think TO will be signed to a 2-3 yr contract following this season, and I have to agree with Skooby on this. TO probably is tired of being shipped around and knows that he doesn't have much time left to redeem his legacy. I don't expect any kind of behavioral issues out of TO - but I do expect the unethical media to try and fabricate a behavioral issue at first opportunity, because they need stuff to talk about during the off season...
  20. It's quite clear the Bills drafted for players to help them compete immediately. That is all the explanation you need to understand why they took Byrd over Everett Brown. The Bills are trying to win now, and that's good for anyone who wants them to remain in Buffalo.
  21. Rumor is they want 2 first round picks for him. Which is pretty much telling the league to forget about acquiring the guy as far as I see it.
  22. I'm not sure what games you were watching. Peters was far and away superior on virtually every play. Did he give up sacks? Yea...did they leave him in isolation by himself? Every play. Can they even entertain the thought of doing that with Walker? They would probably chuckle at the suggestion. You really make yourself look stupid with this argument.
  23. You are wrong.
