If we finish 9-7, we could very possibly be one or two funny bounces of a lopsided ball away from the SB. Make it to the playoffs and anything can happen.
-
Well, I think it's a safe bet that any team in the league would like him as a backup.

Wow. Just wow. Good bye credibility.

Demetrius Bell & O-Line
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to Marv-a-licious's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is there anything other than pure speculation that should lead you to believe that? If it was that easy to farm quality left tackles teams would not be paying the good ones so much money. I wouldn't get too excited if I was you - you are likely in for disappointment. Maybe he will end up being a pro bowl player, I just doubt it greatly. -
Is Wood that good or is Stroud slipping?

What happens in training camp can hardly be considered a good barometer of anything. -
John Clayton on Bills
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to TheBlackMamba's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's amazing the number of people who think any coach can win without talent. The Bills haven't had any since they hired Jauron. You should be praising him for winning 7 games with the sorry teams he has had to work with in Buffalo. I love the Bills as much as anyone, but for f**k's sake, can we stop pretending they have ever been remotely close to good during DJ's tenure here? -
It keeps the defense from running complex schemes, which I suppose in theory simplifies the game and could possibly be an advantage, or more precisely just less of a disadvantage, to our inexperienced o-line. In practicality, if not executed well, it could potentially magnify our offensive line woes. I think the real question is going to be whether or not we can sustain the running game, and the fatigue factor should to work to our advantage there. If we can play action effectively I can see our offense being very potent, and so I think that at least on some level the no huddle should be advantageous for us. But nonetheless the line is going to have to play a lot better than they look on paper in order for us to stand a chance, no matter what offensive scheme we run.

Not to take anything away from Reggie White, he was great. But you would be hard pressed to find any NFL analyst who would say Reggie is Better than Bruce. -
3-4 defense in Buffalo?
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to offde-fence's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's pretty obvious the Bills won't be running a base 3-4 defense for the above stated reasons. But pulling it out once in a while could be advantageous as a way of mixing in blitz packages. Maybin appears to have the skill set to play OLB, and I've stated since we drafted him that the Bills are looking at him to move to OLB. This kind of reinforces that. Don't expect a switch to the 3-4 base this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if by next year it happens. -
Would you watch replacement players?
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. That is really an off the wall statement with no basis in reality. For one, the NCAA is no where near as talented as the NFL but every bit as popular, if not more so, and it could be argued that NCAA football is more pure and higher quality of competition simply because the players are playing to win for the sake of winning, not for the sake of a paycheck. Secondly, if NFL franchises can't afford/are unwilling to cough of the exorbitant sums of money to hire these players, how is some smaller market franchise in an upstart league supposed to be expected to do so (let's face it - any new league simply isn't going to have the same drawing power as the NFL for a very long time, even in major metropolitan areas)? How do you expect an upstart league to pay NFL players their current salaries, or even a fraction of them? Do you think NFL players feel so taken advantage of that they would be willing to play for fractions of their current salaries in an upstart league just to teach NFL owners a lesson? I think not. -
Would you watch replacement players?
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In a normal industry I would tend to side with labor over management every time. But in the case of professional athletes who are already exorbitantly paid no matter how you try to justify it, I simply cannot bring myself to side with them. I want my team to win a championship like every other NFL fan, and every greedy player who threatens to hold out because his six or seven figure salary isn't adequate compensation for playing a game I love to play for fun, it hurts their team's chances of signing other good players and thus makes the team worse overall, so I definitely have to side with the owners on this one (the possible exception being...the Buffalo Bills). I would absolutely watch replacement players. I watch to see the teams play the game, not the individual players play their positions. As long as it is competitive, I wouldn't have any problem with the lower talent level. I mean most of us who are NFL fans also love college football, am I wrong? -
1. Get rid of any players that will seek competitive salaries, regardless of how talented they may be. (This step can be applied to building a cost-ineffective platoon at any position) 2. Hire a backup from another team to come in and lead the unit. 3. Promote several of your own "promising" backups to starting positions, and/or allow people who should have been backups anyway to retain their starting position. 4. Move the only true starter in the unit from a position at which he was merely average and adequate to a more demanding and for more critical position which requires substantially greater athletes. 5. Fill any remaining holes in your line with rookies. Don't forget to execute the following contingencies to protect other positions: 1. Get rid of your backup QB who *should* have been the best backup QB in the NFL but never was. 2. Hire a guy who never has been and never will be any good at QB in any role, backup or otherwise. 3. Advise all backs to seek additional coverage on their insurance policies (this serves little functionality and would merely be a damn decent thing to do for those fellas). 4. Never forget plan B - in the unlikely effect that the above formula fails, blame it on the coaches. Actually, just blame it on anything that doesn't illustrate the obvious principle that you have to have talent to win, and you have to pay for talent. The coaches are usually just the easiest scapegoats. Now I see why so many people think we are "solid" on the O-line. I wonder why this epiphany never struck me before.... Oh well. Go Bills!

That's funny, because that appears to be easily the worst line in the NFL. But big freaking deal, because so does every other hypothetical starting offensive line that one could create using our current roster.
-
Being out-coached and being a talent starved team with no possible response to even the most simplistic defensive scheme due to inferior personnel (namely at WR) is not the same thing. Can anyone tell me which coach could have made the playoffs with the rosters we had for each of our 7-9 teams? DJ has consistently overachieved considering the personnel he had to work with. We should be praising him because by all rights we should have been much worse than 7-9. I'm so sick of Bills fans who cannot accept that we have bad players and want to blame our mediocrity on coaching. I'm not sure if it is stupidity or self induced blindness, but Vince Lombardi wouldn't have made the playoffs with most of the recent Bills teams.

Whitner could lose starting spot?
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to BuffaloBlood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe that Patriots have made quite a nice living by drafting for talent over need. Also after reading several posts by Zazie I have determined that this person has a narrow understanding of football and has zero credibility. -
If the Bills are unsuccessful next season it will be because of the LT position. We are solid and pretty deep everywhere else. It is our weakness and it is a huge one. To think that Langston Walker can adequately fill Jason Peters' shoes is simply absurd. We have a team that could be a SB contender if not for the LT position. You don't want the 8 year vet relying on help from rookies, that really should be the other way around. But that is what is going to happen. Walker can not man the position on his own. Jason Peters could, and that simple truth is why he was so highly valued by the rest of the world. I'm as much of a Bills optimist as anyone but you won't catch me stupidly posting comments about how Langston Walker is an upgrade at LT. The way to beat the Bills is going to be to take advantage of our glaring holes on the O-line, none of which glares quite as strongly as Langston Walker, and believe me Belichick and basically every other coach in the league are not going to fail to realize that. If the Bills win, it will be in spite of the offensive line and in particular Langston Walker, not because of it.

Pass the new O-line Kool Aid
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to Billistic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Um Junior Seau was not a major contributor to anything the Pats did - they could have plugged anyone in there and been nearly as effective. Randy Moss was the best WR in the NFL when the Pats acquired him, regardless of what ESPN writers think of his demeanor. Let's blow Bill Belichick just a little less please. He's a great coach but it doesn't take a genius to realize that Randy Moss will make your team better. -
Pass the new O-line Kool Aid
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to Billistic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Get your head out of that pile of stupid. I remember watching Tom Brady rack up record setting numbers by "checking down" to Wes Welker for uber-yardage every game.....because Randy Moss was covered. As for the O-line, it was far superior last year. To suggest otherwise is still as stupid as it was when we traded Jason Peters. Last I checked, receivers in fact DO get open in games. I don't know what the !@#$ league you watch but I see secondaries get torched all the time. The QBs who have success are the ones who have the two necessary elements to QB success - time to throw and weapons to throw to. Any QB in the NFL will pick you apart if you give him time and weapons. Everything favors the offensive players on a passing play - they know the routes, the timing, the cadance, etc. Wide receivers are absolutely supposed to get open. To suggest otherwise just indicates you are a brainless twat. If you think Tom Brady has made a career by making bad decisions to throw into tight coverage rather than by exploiting the weaknesses the defense gives him, or Big Ben, Eli Manning, or any other quarterback in the league, then again you are wrong and exceedingly stupid. I mean now that we have TO to open things up we should be able to take more shots at the defense, but to suggest that we should have forced the ball to a double covered Lee Evans or to a blanketed Josh Reed, neither of whom possess great jump ball abilities, is simply absurd. Did you say you have actually watched an NFL football game before? Because I'm sensing that your knowledge of the game extends only as far as the cord of your Playstation controller. -
Jason Peters Pass-Blocking Skills
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to bourbonboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could it have something to do with the fact that most teams still run the ball nearly 50% of the time, and that perhaps he is an exceptionally good run blocker? Also it seems pretty absurd to me to quantify "sacks allowed" as there are a nearly infinite number of dynamics on any given play that could result in a sack. Clearly you people that are still railing about this have no comprehension of that simple truth so I won't waste any more breath on it....but can someone please tell me where the statement below comes from? That is an embarrassingly unsubstantiated remark. -
Jason Peters Pass-Blocking Skills
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to bourbonboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The original poster needs to work on his reading comprehension skills, and everyone that follows needs to learn to actually read the article before commenting. They are simply saying that they believe he is far from the limit of his potential and as such are teaching him the scheme and techniques that are used in Philly, which of course would obviously be different than those in Buffalo. The only mention that was made of him needing improvement specifically was made by the article's author, and as such is as subject to bias and interpretation as any commenter on this forum. From the Eagles perspective, I am willing to believe that they see JP as a great acquisition with room to improve into a dominating blocker in every aspect, but I doubt any of their staff feels like they got a sh-- deal at this point. Just get over the fact that the Bills once again may have mortgaged any chance of winning in the present for the sake pursuing a future that likely will never come to pass. I do hope I'm wrong but we shall see how the Bills porous offensive line gets exploited by the likes of Belichick. It will be ironic when the only thing preventing us from being a SB contender is our weak play around the perimeter of the O line. -
How good would we be if......

How good would we be if......
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan replied to janick's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Because we won't get the benefit of the doubt until we do something to deserve it, regardless of what personnel are on staff/roster. That well may be the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life. Instead of trying to blame it on the coach, blame it on the Bills' utter lack of talent. Belichick could not have made the playoffs with any team we've had since we lost to the Titans in the playoffs. (on an unrelated note, unlike most Bills fans, I think the refs made the correct call there - even if it technically was a backward lateral, it was way to close to overturn the on the field call imo. Doesn't mean it hurt me any less than it did any of you.) But the point is you simply cannot expect a team to win with inferior talent. Dick Jauron has NEVER had a team that would be in the top tier in the league talent wise. Watch this year - you will be pleasantly surprised. I know you will doubt until you see it, but DJ is the kind of coach that can get the most out of his players. The fact that the Bills were able to finish 7-9 with 3 win caliber teams is testament to that. You guys don't give him credit for the fact that he has had every Bills team he has coached playing way above their skill level. I think that with DJ's laid back demeanor he really needs some fiery personalities on the field, and that is his biggest weakness as a coach. Enter T.O. Exactly the type of player the Bills need to get those cocky juices flowing, and I think you will see what an awesome compliment TO and DJ will be for each other. ******************************************** Also, this isn't in response to any particular post on this thread, but I say damn all this pessimism. For the first time in a long time we have very good reason to be hopeful and I'm sick of you jerks trying to bring us down.
