  1. This. My hard truth assumption, for what it’s worth: Stevie Johnson will not be on this team by the time camp opens, even if it means he gets cut. Watkins, Woods, Williams and Goodwin need all the reps they can get in an effort to develop a rapport with EJ in the offense. The reps are just too valuable to expend on SJ13. He has been a good solider and great story as a 7th rounder who is now well paid. But let’s be honest: he is basically a possession receiver, he is injury prone, he is not exactly Mr. “Clutch”, and he has potential locker-room-cancer written all over him. SJ13 may have a modicum of trade value, but not much. Every team knows the Bills can’t really justify keeping him, and will likely have to just take the cap hit. Their cards are now on the table. And looking back, with all due respect to his mother’s passing, it seemed kind of strange how he was away from the team for so long and ended up missing 2 games over her funeral. Most guys are fighting to get back on the field because that’s what their parents would have wanted. Anyway, you just don’t bring in Mike Williams and draft Sammy Watkins if Stevie is still part of your future at the position. These moves also do not bode well for TJ Graham, but I’d say he will probably be here to compete for a job in camp.
  2. Both good choices ... Khalil Mack was barely out of diapers when Mark Morrison’s jam was hot in the mid 90’s, but I would argue that his tight cut has a little Fresh Prince of Bel Air thing going on. Thereby making my pick more appropriate than some Bobby Darin! And I’d sure love to hear Chuck Berry ripping it up with your tune much more than some high-pitched Men at Work … but for the sake of the broadcast, the boys from down under would be funny to hear at that moment. And you are right, the selections will mostly be hip hop tunes that I will be quite unfamiliar with.
  3. In honor of Clowney's hit on the Michigan RB, how awesome would it be to hear Judas Priest "some heads are gonna roll"
  4. Bill Murray agrees with you. It just doesn't matter.
  5. Some obvious ones, but I would love to be the DJ cueing these up & pressing play … Jadaveon Clowney – Tears of a Clown – English Beat version Khalil Mack – Return of the Mack – Mark Morrison Johnny Manziel – Be Good Johnny – Men at Work Teddy Bridgewater – Bridge over Troubled Water – Simon and Garfunkel
  6. First of all, you are putting words into my mouth, and you have cast a lot of doubt in this very thread as to how great a player he really is. I never said all 32 teams would take him #1. I said I thought Houston would, because as a 3-4 LB, I think he fits what they do more than Clowney, a 4-3 DE. And my whole point is really that no NFL team will have justification for doing what SD State was able to do to Mack in the Idaho Bowl game. They doubled, tripled, and made damn sure he was not going to make plays to beat them. Credit to their coaches; too bad UB was grossly outschemed (something Quinn is famous for in my mind) and had no answers from other defenders. And the Bulls couldn't move the ball on offense all day, either.
  7. When the ball is snapped, your draft status means zero. I simply don’t agree with the premise that Mack even disappeared at all. He always had to be contended with. To demand results on the stats sheet at game’s end is to ignore how the game is played on the field.
  8. lol Perhaps WEO should direct that question toward 32 NFL scouting departments and assorted draftniks, not this board. But I will also say that even when an offense expends a double team on a player, it is usually a tremendous advantage for the defense. Minus the QB, it then pits 8 offensive players against 10 defenders. But the unblocked guys have to make the play.
  9. I get the sense that Marrone has lost sleep at night trying to figure out the drumbeat that Stevie or Marcel would march to, and I don’t think one exists. Thus, Mike Williams is here. And what else could possibly explain #99 going the synthetic route?
  10. Aha, thanks for the sense check. I think it’s also quite obvious that I happen to be a UB alum who is just pumped that Mack will certainly go in the top 5 picks.
  11. OK here is why Khalil Mack is in the conversation to go #1 overall. He was rarely if ever held in check when he was single blocked. And it is highly doubtful he will be facing many double-teams out of the gate as an LB in the NFL. He is a size/speed nightmare at LB the way a Mario Williams or a Jason Pierre-Paul is at DE. Ohio State did not pay much attention to him in last year’s opener, and he nearly destroyed them all by himself. And in the last few weeks, as people do their research on the kid from UB, what game tape do you think they look at? People who say “he disappeared” in the Bowling Green or SD State games might not have even watched the games … because those teams paid a ton of attention to #46. Anthony Becht did the color commentary for the Bowling Green game, and obviously heard all the hype going into the game. Now, here is a guy who made his living trying to block guys like Mack … and Becht raved about his instincts and what he was seeing from #46. In the bowl game, SD State often had a TE chip him & kept an extra back in to handle him on nearly every pass play, as well as some run plays. The dude has more tackles for loss than anyone in college football history. And he has also owns the record for most forced fumbles in college football history. So it’s safe to say he has the knack for playing the run and the pass, and has proven he can get off blocks to make plays. He is one of the safest picks in this draft. I think the Texans will take him if they keep the pick.
  12. A recent TBN article only indicates that Joe B was an intern at the station, but I could swear they once had him on air as part of that rookie competition thing they did a few times. I always find Sal more than listenable, and I always appreciate the veteran savvy of John Murphy.
  13. I hope you are right, and I love your optimism. But Wilson probably showed more NFL ability in his rookie year game in Toronto vs. the Bills than EJ showed in his entire rookie season. I hope I am just being too harsh, but if the Bills somehow select Manziel, Carr, Murray, McCarron or some other signal-caller, you will not hear a complaint from me. But back on topic, I like this Hill guy, but I think I'd rather see them address other needs first ... I would also be excited about Hyde, Seastrunk, Mason, or even a guy like Bo Oliver late. Hard to believe RBs have become a dime a dozen.
  14. I am sorta with you here, I did not follow him at LSU, but it is obvious he has talent in abundance. And the Fred Jackson comparison is a good one.
  15. Again, not to make light of that, but to play devil's advocate ... does that mean you would not ever select Jamies Winston? His allegations are similar at the very least, and he then followed that up with a Heisman-esque stiff arm to supermarket security with crab legs tucked under his arm.
  16. Everyone has such good things to say about Joe B, and he is great compared to a guy like Schopp, the tennis enthusiast. And I like his professional approach, but whenever Joe is asked his opinion on a guy, 9 times out of 10 he just hedges and basically says he likes him alot but there are some concerns. I realize Joe B is a great story locally (he started as a winner of the WGR rookie contest, I think) ... but listen to Pat Kirwan on Sirius NFL Radio, or Mike Mayock, or even the Godfather, Gil Brandt. Those guys back up their opinions with conviction.
  17. OK, I’ll play devil’s advocate … I am not at all convinced that Hill’s rap sheet puts him in the same company as a Richie Incognito in terms of, as you say “serious character problems”. It looks like this guy was arrested for getting with an underage girl when he was 18, but Les Miles still honored the LSU scholarship offer. Then, Hill got into a bar fight in Baton Rouge, and ended up having to pay the victim’s medical expenses. I am sure NFL teams have done their due diligence on these issues, and I would bet that there are very few teams that have taken him off their board.
  18. I was also very impressed with how Jeremy Hill looked on Game Changers. I know he’s had some baggage at LSU, but he really came across in the interview portion as very determined and matter of fact. Put it this way, he's far less of an idiot than Marshawn was/is. I really don’t envision the Bills spending a late 1st or early 2nd to get him. But all I kept thinking about as I saw him move through bags was “Man, I’d like to have this guy on my team.” He looks tough and ready to contribute from day one. And I think he moves in and out of cuts better than those other smaller guys that were on the show with him (the Stanford kid and the little guy from Oregon). Keeper league fantasy alert! I have not seen all of the shows, but the other guys that were pretty impressive to me were LB Anthony Barr & DT Tim Jernigan.
  19. I would love this pick, and I seriously doubt Donald would be on the sidelines very much. Our buddy Bill Polian loves him, and even referred to him as “the 3-technique of my dreams”. As much as I get why people want us to grab Ebron to be our Jimmy Graham Jr. for EJ, here is my theory on why the Bills will select Aaron Donald if they stay at #9: We have barely heard a thing about Donald, and that is the way Whaley seems to roll. Donald also fits who the Bills may truly feel is the BPA at #9. Ebron plays a need position, but probably is in the 15-20 range on their draft board. At TE, I think Tyler Eifert was quite comparable to Ebron last year in terms of skill set and NFL polish, and he had a decent but limited impact as a 1st round rookie for Cincy. So, it is safe to say that Ebron would not be a Jimmy Graham Jr. for us on day one of rookie camp. And I do not buy this notion of coddling EJ along and supplying him with whatever weapons he needs to succeed. If EJ proves that he can get rid of it effectively vs. heavy pressure, something he has yet to do IMHO, he will find whoever is open. And to hinge his development and our investment in him on the addition of a supposed game-breaking weapon who is a rookie TE or WR is pure folly (and possibly a smokescreen, IMO). Kyle Williams sure isn’t getting any younger, and having a viable DT option who could learn from him and be ready if Kyle or Dareus got dinged up is not the worst idea I have ever heard. Alan Branch can (and has) played well for us, but he is much older and not nearly as disruptive in the way KW/Dareus are. By most accounts, Aaron Donald is viewed as the best DT in this draft, and a dominator at his position. And he or Dareus could probably play some end as well. 4-3 ends need to be much more stout and adept at containing their edge vs. the run. Remember how Jim Schwartz’s Detroit club took Fairley to add to an already imposing D-line that featured Suh? You can never have enough dominant defensive linemen. Who remembers that New York Giants Superbowl-winning formula? And having such a D-line in place makes everyone else on the defense better, especially our DBs. Opposing QBs will have nightmares, and they will have to contend with these guys every snap. My icing on the cake is that Whaley is a Pitt guy, and probably very familiar with what Donald can do. He’d be a key interior defensive piece for the next 5 years (and at a relatively modest salary for 4 of them).
  20. You are absolutely right, you have convinced me. Donald Trump would indeed make a fantastic owner of the Bills who would really help make the Bills winners and be an advocate for WNY and the good people of Buffalo. Maybe he could replace Brandon with that old George guy, or more likely one of his offspring. lol It is clear that you adopt Trump's name-calling strategy in referring to the dopey Mark Cuban, an actual major franchise owner the ilk of which a fan like me could only dream of. And his Shark Tank reality show is one thousand times more captivating than Trump's tired exercise in "let's see how much money these B-listers can extort from thier contacts to raise for charity."
  21. Comparing Trump to Jerry Jones is like comparing apples and oranges. And really, there is just no way that other NFL owners would ever approve of the Donald joining their exclusive club of money-printers. Trump is a total jock-sniffer who thinks he is an elite athlete because he can grind out a decent round of golf. He probably jingles coins & coughs as you start your backswing like Ted Knight in Caddyshack. Jerry Jones was a co-captain of the University of Arkansas 1964 National Championship football team. In fact, Skeletor was even All-Conference, somehow as an OL. I am quite glad that there are other well-heeled & truly Buffalo people ready to throw their hat into the ring to make a bid to keep the Bills here.
  22. With this as your 5th post, you really ought to post more often. This is a great encapsulation of exactly how I feel about the Donald expressing interest in owning the Bills. Politics aside, I honestly can’t believe some of the things he posts on twitter. He is basically a class A blowhard who resorts to immediate name-calling, intimidation and bullying of whomever is in his immediate crosshairs.
  23. Michele Tafoya is quite solid ... so is Doris Burke (check out her man-hands next time). Beadle is your consummate cool chick/cougar. Erin is of course smokin' hot ... but I'd probably get annoyed by her voice over time, so good thing for me, she has no interest.
  24. I have to admit that I was totally anti-Johnny football as a pro prospect after his Heisman-winning frosh campaign. His publicized brushes with papparazi-captured collegiate misbehavior only strengthened my view. And when he was politely dismissed from the Manning passing academy, it served as icing on the cake. But after watching a fair amount of his sophomore season, I think he is going to be a productive player in the NFL, and the way he plays, with even moderate production, he will become an even larger media darling than he already is. His leadership ability is off the charts, and every team will drink as much of that up as a QB can provide (see Kelly, Jim). He has that ultra-burning desire to win each and every game he plays. He has a ton of Flutie & Favre in him, with perhaps a few dashes of Fran Tarkenton. Manziel will surely have to dial back on the scrambling to avoid unnecessary hits from the big boys. But his pocket awareness and escapability will sell an awful lot of tickets. I would attempt two front handsprings if the Bills somehow selected him at 9, if he is even there.
