  1. Maybe we could bribe the league to put Ed Hochuli's crew on the field in OP next week. Another :01 FG to put the Steelers up 3-0 could get these guys to put up 56.
  2. I was a big Adrian Clayborn fan at one time, but he's too inconsistent. Works sometimes and then takes other games off. I'll take Mallet at 2. If we get lower than 3, a DE or LT would be appropriate. I'm still not convinced about Locker.
  3. If we actually draw a #1-3 pick in the first round, we would be dumb not to take a QB. I would encourage them to take an LT high in the draft and save for an ILB or OLB at the start of the second round. LBs are rarely worth a high draft spot, see Maybin, because they are too hit and miss. Whoever plays QB next season deserves better protection than Bell or whomever else we have. It only takes one injury at LT to kill our depth chart at the position.
  4. Kiss Tebow goodbye after his performance Sunday with the Broncos, he's not going anywhere. Depending on how the Bills finish, we could be faced with no options but to take Locker in the draft. This is not a real prize but we could take the best left tackle in the draft instead and draft quarterback in late round 1 or round 2. Given the choice between Luck and Mallet, I'll take Luck every day and twice on Sundays. If I'm left with Mallet, I won't be unhappy. If Dallas gets Luck somehow, I may have to commit ritual hari kari.
  5. This is likely to rock back and forth between Buffalo and Carolina as the season progresses since they will face opponents of different records along the way. This is moot if either team starts winning more games. It's also important to realize that Carolina has their franchise quarterback of the future in Clausen and may well bypass Luck in favor of another need position to continue to build around Clausen.
  6. Career over.
  7. Last hard working day he's ever had. I doubt the Buffalo Denny's would hire him with his effort level.
  8. I'll believe it at the end of the 2011 season.
  9. Keep your day job. Then again....
  10. Romo couldn't help a team with talent. What makes you think he could help us?
  11. San Diego is a nice city. Buffalo is a nice city. When you visit both, you know what you're going to get. Dear Shawne, Welcome to the NFL where if you don't play up to standards, your preferences can melt away like a Buffalo late spring. Grow up. Play well or retire into the great NFL background. It's your career. Sincerely, A.J. Smith
  12. We're so much better against the pass because there's no reason for teams to pass when they can run all over us. It overstates our ability to stop the pass. Maybe we can but we'll never know until someone in the front seven makes a tackle more than once a game. A successful running attack sets up the pass. The secondary always has to cheat to the running backs because much of the time they are the last line of defense between the runner and the end zone. The interception problem is simple: rush the passer. Most interceptions are the result of a quarterback who feels hurried or under pressure or needs to alter his throwing motion. We play so far off of our offensive counterparts in passing situations because we're afraid of getting burned long. Well, that's one strategy. But if our secondary is as talented as they say they are, tighten them down. Let them prove they are shut down corners or shut up.
  13. If you believe heart is being unable to score even a lousy FG in 15 minutes of overtime, I'm there.
  14. Nobody with talent plays one, two, or zero plays a game. They have got to be seeing something on film or on the field that is shouting to them that he is incapable of playing the OLB position. Can he bulk up, sure. Will it make a difference, he might not ever see the chance again.
  15. No way am I angry at Hangartner. Save your venom for the refs.
  16. "Contraction," as mentioned this week by David Stern should be viewed as a less than effective collective bargaining agreement tactic. No one is leaving the NBA because any attempt to contract a franchise would be an invitation to an anti-trust lawsuit by the affected franchise, even if the other owners bought out the team's ownership. The argument can be extended to the NFL and NHL and probably MLB as well. Contraction represents a loss of jobs to a players union by reducing the number of available positions. They are using it as an empty threat to control player costs by negotiating a lower salary cap and/or max contract number. There is no "revenue emergency" in pro sports today, except by teams that are completely mismanaged. Teams that appear completely mismanaged, for example, the Pittsburgh Pirates, are in fact profitable through their own cost controls. No doubt the other leagues saw what was accomplished in the last CBA negotiations in the NHL which, from the players' standpoint, was a total cluster%^&*. They saw the opportunity to use the economic circumstances as an excuse to plead poverty. There is no indication that anyone is suffering who shouldn't be. A 12oz beer still costs $12 at most major league ballparks. MLB, NHL, NBA, and even the NFL are hopelessly overbuilt. Too many teams, playing too many games, often over a span of time that makes no sense seasonally for the sports they represent. By the time the Stanley Cup has been decided, the snow has melted across northern Canada. Eventually, they'll be playing World Series games in November, they've already played regular season games in March. The women's winter sport started with peach baskets now ends its professional playoffs in June. If I were a labor negotiator for the players' union in the NFL or any other league would be to say, "You got yourself into this mess, your poor planning is not my problem. You really do need us more than we need you."
  17. Lombardi / Polian Ralph would hire Lombardi if he knew him.
  18. Looking at Carolina's schedule, we may need to fight to get the 1 spot. Clausen hasn't found his feet yet. In spite of that, Luck or Mallet. I'm not sold on Locker.
  19. Won't happen. Bad as they are defensively, firing coordinators worked so well last year.
  20. Locker before Mallet??
  21. Jacksonville 34, Buffalo 10
  22. Look for the Bills to score more than 9 but give up more than 25. Jones-Drew will have a career day against our porous run defense making Girard's performance insignificant. The way the Bills hit opponents, they play like your mother's fine china. Can't wait for the next released player.
