3rd Day went awry - rescued with 400 lbs of manimal

The whole draft was built around need because the free agency market is fubared due to the lockout. -
Round 7 (Pick 245): DT Michael Jasper - Bethel (TN)
Wing Man replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't laugh too hard. Remember when someone 310lbs. was considered way too huge? You could be looking at the future. Of course after his career was over, he could blow up to 600. -
Dareus and Mallett worked out together
Wing Man replied to ieatcrayonz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Toss in the new rookie cap that is likely to take form in the CBA negotiations and Mallet is a huge value pick at 34. In spite of that, I expect the Bills will go defense in the second round, maybe even Bowers despite his obvious risks. -
Bowers is a disaster pick. He was completely shunned the entire first round. Obviously, team doctors feel his knee is very unstable and he is due for microfracture surgery which is a career ender more often than not.

Buddy Nix: Perfect time for Bills to draft a quarterback
Wing Man replied to Scrappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Missouri isn't exactly an Alabama, Florida, or USC. They don't get 1A recruiting classes. Consider the talent around Gabbert before examining his stats. The first round isn't littered with Missouri players. -
Tell me who we're drafting.

Carolina will try to sign Newton from now until ten months after the draft. He'll be so far off the board when we pick, he'll be in orbit. Gabbert, Miller, or Dareus, and you've got to hope that Miller or Dareus don't bust.
-
Mallet will go in the top 15. Count on it. Too much talent. Could go to Miami.

I have to agree. My grandfather lived in a nursing home until he died at 98. The only reason he was in the nursing home was because he was wheeling men 30 years his junior around to see their wives. He couldn't see much, but he was all there. Ralph is treading hard on the mortality tables, however. It will work out how it works out. We have no control over the situation. Best not to worry too much.

Brian Billick's thoughts on Bills Draft

Caught it on the radio. Thought my teeth would break from all the bad refereeing.

The problem with football is the same as the problem with baseball is the same as the problem with hockey. The headgear isn't strong enough to withstand the blows that players face today. A football helmet redesign (think Kelso) could resolve as much as 60% of all concussions in the game. Before you say that this will change the game too much, think about how much of the game could be saved if only the technology of the helmet could be improved.

Blaine Gabbert or Christian Ponder?
Wing Man replied to DukeyBomb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am more and more convinced we should go defensive in the first round (If you've followed my posts, it will be quickly evident that I'm a total loser when it comes to making up my mind). I hope one of these other quarterbacks is on the board when we pick, but if we're faced with just drafting defensive players, I won't be disappointed. It's difficult to believe that Gabbert won't go to Carolina, but if he's on the board at 3, he may be too delicious to pass up for Nix. I'd prefer him over Newton any day. -
Nix & Gailey on Phone Conference today
Wing Man replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just the fact that Nix and Gailey are talking about trading down is a literal advertisement to other teams who may want to trade into our position to take a Newton or a Gabbert. Not that they will necessarily, they still need the right incentive package in terms of picks to make it a reality. If they are serious about a franchise quarterback, they're likely to need to remain in their position. I don't buy into any of the talk about Newton or Gabbert dropping out of the top 10. Someone in the top 15 will trade into the top 10 to take one of them if they linger. I think Von Miller would be an inspired choice for our pick whether at 3 or 10. If they do trade down, which would be even more inspired, I won't miss him if he's off the board when we pick. Okay, maybe a little. I'd enjoy seeing front seven players being selected at 3, 34, 68, and 100, and save a quarterback for a lower round even if he doesn't pan out completely. -
Tomcats 5th Annual "Gimme Five" Draft Contest
Wing Man replied to The Tomcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nawrocki picks Von Miller for Buffalo in the upcoming draft. Nawrocki has a fabulous track record with mock drafts. Surprised that Gabbert and Newton are selected so low, but if Nawrocki is right about Newton, it could be a Brady Quinn style drop down the first round. Newton is in for his fourth trip to Buffalo so you know they're looking long and hard at him. Haven't heard much about Gabbert at OBD (who, IMHO, is better skilled and suited for the NFL than Newton), so perhaps they assume he won't be on the board when the Bills pick. 1. Carolina - Blaine Gabbert, QB 2. Denver - Patrick Peterson, DB (BPA) 3. Buffalo - Cam Newton, QB 4. Cincinnati - Julio Jones, WR 5. Dallas from Arizona - Von Miller, OLB (Arizona has no QBs on the board, so they trade down)
