  1. Due to revenue sharing they really don't get that large of a portion of the gate or merchandise sales. The difference in salary for a player like TO compared to the gain in money is likely negligible. The real money would be made if they get extra games by making it to the playoffs.
  2. Brandon Jacobs could be a cheap bruising vet RB who is available in the offseason: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AiV4vEdUVT.7D8Krlw5xiI_.uLYF?slug=nfp-20110105_brandon_jacobs_fbombs_reporters_on_way_out_the_door
  3. A serviceable alternative could be Matt Spaeth from Pittsburgh. 6'7" 270lbs former 3rd round pick has been stuck behind Heath Miller his entire career. Interesting tidbit: http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/Matt-Spaeth/6e953cee-d299-44b8-9896-ca055f8872da
  4. LB's & even DE's are too fast to option off of
  5. The key is the "all world" QB. With that in place they can focus all of their resources on every other position. They can afford to miss every so often, and move up and down the board since they don't need to be picking as high as possible because they don't need that franchise type guy. They have him at QB. Think of all the picks wasted by the Bills the last 10 years trying to get just a good QB. A 1st on Bledsoe, a 1st and 2nd on Losman and a 3rd on Edwards. All that and we're going into next year with a 7th round guy who was signed as a UFA.
  6. The only thing that could hurt that in this particular draft is the uncertainty of there being a season. Why sacrifice a 2nd round pick for a player at a certain position when you could have 2 full drafts to fill that need before games are played again?
  7. If I'm reading the info correctly Fitz's pass attempts were prorated to the 16 games as well. The number of attempts are what the number of attempts are. Guys like Manning and Brees are going to have more attempts because they're more prolific players and therefore are in more prolific offenses. A QB at a lower talent level such as Fitz cannot run the type of offense those two do. Not to say Fitz's stats weren't better than expected this season or that the prorated stats aren't impressive, but I will say Fitz is not capable of putting up 4000 yards passing, winning NFL MVP or perhaps even leading his team to a Super Bowl like those two.
  8. Champ Bailey is a UFA, CB should be a need for Denver and I wouldn't be surprised if they take one of the CBs. Also, CB can become a need for Buffalo if Florence is not resigned. I truly don't think the Bills don't go DL with having Kyle Williams, signing Edwards last year, and using 2 of their top 3 picks last year on Dline all to fill 3 spots.
  9. How do we trade Whitner when we dont have him under contract?
  10. Roethlisberger wasn't used as starter his rookie year until Maddox injury, him starting wasn't the plan going into the season.
  11. This, plus the potential for there to be no season and have to go the whole year without playing. The difference in money wouldn't be a factor, or as large of one.
  12. nhl used a weighted lottery to determine order and draft was in serpentine fashion.
  13. Per Twitter: HoustonTexans The Houston Texans have hired Wade Phillips as the new defensive coordinator. McClain_on_NFL The Texans will switch to a 3-4. Phillips will use Mario Williams like he used Bruce Smith, who had 65 sacks in 6 seasons under him. *Texans
  14. My concern is that his knees won't be able to withstand the new 18 game schedule.
  15. Hawk signed through 2011: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=nfl&id=3629 Barnett through 2012: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=NFL&id=1779 Why would they drop either of their starting ILBs?
  16. I would throw up if the Bills gave Denver their 2nd round pick for Orton. overpayment
  17. Perhaps Kelsay is an example of that however. At the time he and Torbor were the Bills starting OLBs with only Maybin or undrafted Coleman pressing either for time. Moats was still playing ILB and was not a consideration as a replacement for Kelsay and Merriman was still on SD. So they resigned Kelsay, a leader and good locker room guy, to an extension to fill the void until a better replacement could be found. The money seems high, but they didn't give him a raise from his previous deal, in fact a decrease.
  18. Not that I care for Modrak, but he wasn't hired until 2001.
