Many of your criteria apply to some of the other prospects you listed: #1. Fairley and Bowers could both be considered one year wonders. Fairley started only 2 games at Auburn before his senior season. Bowers had only 4 career sacks going into his senior season. Quinn put up big numbers his sophomore season but was suspended his entire junior year. #2. All of them are juniors except for Miller #3. Green was suspended 4 games for selling a jersey to an agent and Quinn suspended for the entire season after it was found that he had accepted benefits from an agent.

No CBA might benefit Buffalo's Draft
Ghost of Rob Johnson replied to sllib olaffub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
how about a link to the article? -
I don't really have a favorite, but I'd say I prefer one without the red flags and uncertainty. The list could include: Tyson Clabo, Doug Fee, Jermon Bushrod, Willie Colon, Ryan Harris, Charlie Johnson, Marshal Yanda, Jeromey Clary.

Considering Gaither played zero plays this past season if it was even a consideration I'd say the Bills made the right choice.

Super Bowl Attendance Record Bull ****
Ghost of Rob Johnson replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The stadium has standing room only tickets, which is probably where they put the temporary seats. -
Gaither, with his injury and personality red flags coupled with the plethora of available RTs in free agency, is a player I would avoid.

I might change the order due to positional need, but those seem to be the top 3. I'd go: 1. Peterson 2. Fairley 3. Green

I do agree with this, Matthews was only 240 lbs at the predraft combine in 2009. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Matthews_III#Pre-draft_measureables

Didn't the Lions take Suh last year? So wouldnt the defensive playmaker argument apply to him as well? So following your line of thinking the defensive playmaker route is a disaster also.
-
I'm not certain about this, as this is supposedly a very deep draft for DL. However, using historical late round WRs as an argument for this doesn't work, as there are as many if not more first round DLs who bust, and many late round DLs that work out, just the same. Look at the last couple of years of first round Defensive Linemen: Dewayne Robertson (4th overall), Johnathan Sullivan (6th), Jimmy Kennedy (12th), Gaines Adams (4th overall), Jamaal Anderson (8th), Amobi Okoye (10th), Adam Carriker (13th), Justin Harrell (16th), Jarvis Moss (17th), Chris Long (2nd, had nine sacks last year but is he worth the 2nd overall pick/money?), Derrick Harvey (7th), Lawrence Jackson (28th), Kentwan Balmer (29th). Meanwhile there's Jared Allen (R4), Justin Tuck (R3), Trent Cole (R5), Pat Williams (undrafted), Robert Mathis (R5), Jay Ratliff (R7), Tony Brown (undrafted), and our very own Kyle Williams (R5). Like I said, you can play this game with any position, in fact looking at the historical drafts it seems like you're more likely to find a lineman on days 2-3, or at least less likely to find a bust in the first round.
-
The players you listed spanned many teams, as do the players that bust or succeed at other positions. The drafting team is irrelevant to the argument. Unless I misunderstood what you were getting at with your list. Also, it's not as though the Bills first round pick is their only outlet for getting players nor is it the last 1st round pick they will ever have. Championship teams are good in all facets of the game, therefore good players are needed all over the field.
-
You can play the first round bust late round steal game with any position on the field. It's really not a viable argument against taking WR at #3.
-
Is that analysis not also available with Dlinemen? As was stated above this is a deep draft for Dline. Also, the Bills drafted two Dlinemen with 2 of their top 3 picks last year. I think they're going either Peterson or Green. During the season there were probably 45 different threads regarding whether Lee Evans was a #1 WR, so obviously there is a need there, with AJ there is no doubt.

Ranking Bills Weakest Positions
Ghost of Rob Johnson replied to BB-Gun's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LB and then DB. LB I don't mind Poz, but he's a free agent. This leaving the only spot that can be considered as filled is one of the OLB spots, by Merriman, who is injury prone and an unknown due to his lack of output the past few seasons. To fill the LB spots I would resign Poz and draft ILB & OLB with 2 of their top 3 picks giving Davis and Kelsay someone to compete with/beat them out going into camp. Moats can act as insurance for Merriman. DB With Florence, Whitner, Wilson, and Youboty all free agents this leaves the unit needing to replace two starters and a key reserve (Wilson) along with depth at CB. Not to mention an old and brittle Terrance McGee is filling one of the starting CB spots currently. To fill this position I would draft Patrick Peterson #3 overall. I didn't include DL as the long term plan is to move to a 3 man line which will include the Bills best player in Kyle Williams, their one legitimate free agent signing from last year in Dwan Edwards, and developing two of their top 3 picks in Troupe and Carrington. The development is what we are waiting on. Wouldn't be surprised to see Stroud cut and a free agent NT signed moving Williams to DE. -
Of which none of those 4 are free agents, Matt Hasselbeck is available however. So it would come down to giving up a 2nd round pick for one of those guys, or giving up a 2nd round pick for Gabbert or Newton.

Clay Matthews was 6'3" 240 lbs at the combine - is now listed at 255 lbs Brian Cushing was 6'3" 243 lbs at the combine - is now listed at 259 lbs These guys are 21 years old, they're still growing.
-
Could be looking to get QB ahead of QB needy teams such as Cincinnati and Arizona.
-
But players like Troup and Carrington will not?

What about without Drayton Florence and George Wilson also? -
Interesting, but kind of scary. I hope there is at least some sort of backup plan (draft pick) in case this 1 game wonder doesn't pan out. It also sounds like Nix likes Wood at center, so might look something like this for next year: LT Bell LG Levitre C Wood RG Urbik RT Pears

Why cut Parrish but keep Jones & Roosevelt? He's a better player than either. -
Steelers approach vs. Tom Modrak
Ghost of Rob Johnson replied to David D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Funny you should use the Steelers as the team to compare Modrak to, from his Bio: http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/Tom-Modrak/1f0d5277-1320-4d0a-8630-22b7eea5d89c and then there's this guy: http://www.buffalobills.com/team/roster/Doug-Whaley/d353528b-6856-4202-9bbf-79cbad4a9a5f -
Current 3-4 teams NTs at the combine: Casey Hampton - 314lbs...now listed at 325 lbs Shaun Rogers - 320 lbs...now listed at 350 lbs Ryan Pickett - 309 lbs...now listed at 340 lbs Torell will be 22 years old going into next season, he's got alot of growing to do. Wouldn't be surprised if he's more like 320lbs or 325 lbs going into camp next year.

"Best Player Available"
Ghost of Rob Johnson replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you pick the best person for every position within that practice, won't you eventually have the best practice around? But if there's 53 open positions, and you only get 7-10 applicants per year, won't having the best practice around take some time? -
