  1. any word on Poz? I'm guessing broken forearm, out for season? also, how about kelsay? he was playing well ( i know thats a rarity).

sh****ty loss, but hope that maybe we have an offensive coordinator. AVP called a good game, and the "simplified" offense was smart. multiple variations on the same 10 or 15 formations. totally through pats off with TE audibleing. And for once, we didn't lose cause of O or D, it was our "awesome" ST. Leodis has to know to not return on an all hands team, right???

  2. So i'm sure this will get read over by a lot of people, but i'm currently stationed in Newport, RI and am surrounded by pats fans. They all say, with us up 11, well this one's over. Meanwhile the entire game i am saying, listen the bills will find a way t o lose, find a way to give it away. I mean, what would MNF be without us losing in a hearwrenching fashion?

and the pathetic thing is - when things start to unwind, I am totally unphased, not shocked, and completely calm about it. barely even a pit in my stomach. I harken back to when this all first happened for me, during the music city miracle, and I remember thinking then, boy I never can have my heart ripped out that bad by the bills again. and It's true. With time, I've simply learned, this is buffalo bills football. always look almost good enough, but never quite are. its not jaurons fault, or ralph's, or trent's or even leodis'.... It's buffalo bills football, for better or worse. that said, Bell need's some work, because the rest of that line looked damn good.

  3. I know I'm still relatively new to OBD but I don't get how so many people on here hate, or think so poorly of Levy. It really doesn't make much sense. Is it because he never won the big one and got outcoached by Parcells, Jimmy Johnson and Joe Gibbs? Because if thats the case, he's still one of the top coaches to ever play those games. I'd certainly put those 3 ahead of him all time, and thus, losing to them seems somewhat understandable.

To go a step further, he was part of the reason Bill Polian was ever even discovered. For nothing else, he deserves credit for the start that the best modern day GM had into the NFL, not to mention the coaches and players from under him that are working in and around the league.

I agree Marv is not Landy, Lombardi, Gibbs or Parcells. He's probably not even one of the top 10 or 15 HCs of all time. But he is a HOF coach, and deservedly so. I think everyone here, regardless of their view, should acknowledge as much of him. Whether Saban was better or not, I have no idea, I'm only 28. But from an NFL wide perspective of the past 25 years, there aren't many coaches that have his track record.... and if you say it was the players, well last I checkd, he had an impact of most of those guys getting drafted outside of Kelly. And say what you will, but Kelly isn't even a top 10 QB of the past 25 years, so you can't say we won just beacuse he came from the USFL...

  4. I agree but I do not think he sticks long term as interim coaches rarely do. May depend on what kind of success he has.

well we all know it wont be cowher, shanny, schot (sadly), etc. Cottrell would make me vomit.

I would be OK with April as a last resort option, I mean he works hard and is great at what he does. Its a gutsy move. In reality, I could see RCW Jr reaching out to one of the UFL coaches not named Cottrell. They won't command much and all have had some success. 2 problems - 1.) getting people to come to buffalo (i know we hate hearing this but its true) and 2.) money - people need to realize ralph doesn't exactly have $5million in cash to just hand out. Sure his team is worth millions but his business ventures aren't like robert kraft's or paul brown's or dan snyedrs.

Who knows. really. I mean a lot of guys might lose jobs this year - del rio, childress, etc. I just dont want another coordinator. I really dont. It's so depressing being a bills fan sometimes when you know things are going to stay status quo

  5. rpcolosi, no offense my friend and fellow bills fan, but you are missing my point, well, some of my point, that's cool, though. (actually, maybe you do, may be you don't)

Hey, I am glad you are a hunter, hell, I love hunters, you want to bring the venison over my friend, I will give you the address and i promise to do it up in the the skillet to make it nice and juicy...mmmm deer meat!!! The mistake, is grilling it, too lean to grill!!!

Check Petrino's post who I quoted from, I was mainly agreeing with his thoughts.

However, i highly doubt, as a dog owner, you would do what was indicated in that Real Sports story.

if you did though, I doubt I would cheer for you.

obviously i hate, absolutely hate what vick did. And i see the entire moral dilemma with it, but I can forgive the guy for that. It's a mistake, a big mistake, but its not a human life. I guess what gets me is how a guy like Vick is put away for what, 2 years? for some horrible acts done to dogs, living creatures yes, btu still dogs. While a guy like Donte Stallworth and be wasted and kill a HUMAN BEING and get a month. Obviously this is far more political than the normal stuff I talk about on here, but it blows my mind. That guy, no way, no how, should be allowed back into the NFL. I think Goodell is a straight shooter so he will really F up Stallworths come back, if its even allowed. But I think Vick has really taken on a huge penalty for his sins, and I think his stardom is part of the reason people came down so hard on him - to really make an example.

I really hope we don't get him, I do not want a QB controversy here. That said, if TE gets hurt - i'd much much rather him take over than fitzpatrick. and if at that point he outplays TE, then fine. But I stand by the notion TE was 7-5 when he wasn't hurt last year. if he can beat some of the AFC East teams this year, we have a legit shot. And I am afraid Vick culd mess that up.

  6. Two cats right now and I hope to get a dog some day. I couldn't agree with you more, Petrino.

I can forgive Michael Vick, but I don't think I can forget enough to cheer for the guy when he crosses the endzone in a Bills jersey.

    ...sorry, I just can't.

PS - sorry to make this more horrible, but during an episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel last year I saw in a story they were doing on dog fighting that they will kidnap long since domesticated and gentle dogs out of people's yards, tape their mouths shut, and let them be tortured as training fodder for the fight dogs.

...so, you out there tell me that I should cheer for him?

hey buddy- these are dogs. i hope you get just as upset about abortion, cause otherwise it's pretty sad you can't forgive the guy. but what do i know - im an evil hunter who likes to shoot bambi and use my dogs to hunt wabbits!!!

  7. OK, so I know we had two rooks at guard, and I know there wasn't one guy as a starter playing the same position he played last year. And I know Butler was out. But that Levitre play was a first for me. I've never actually seen an opposing pass rusher pick a guy up and beat our quarterback with him.

On the plus side, Wood was conspicuous by his quiet excellence and we didn't hear his name. So that's good.

But Collinsworth said it best .... "Their offensive line is NOT ready."

1.) collinsworth is a worthless announcer

2.) if you haven't seen that before, you may need to watch more football (NFL or college)

3.) what you would have saw in the past from the bills (reyes, fowler etc.) is them simply get turned around and let the guy walk on through avoiding a holding penalty. INstead, what you saw was a rookie standing his ground iwht horrible leverage getting blown up by a veteran all be it 2nd string DT. Obviously NOT a good play. but the kid didn't give up and he knew he was gonna look bad on film. Reyes or fowler or Dockery would act like a turn stile because its easier for them when they get beat to say he had a good first step, instead of acknowledging they effed up.

  8. Or maybe he could start if we have really lame incumbent DEs like Kelsay and Denney and Chris Ellis.

Oops, we do. I think he starts if he has 2 or more weeks to practice, no matter what. The alternatives are just so awful...

except you forget that the one, and only thing, kelsay does well is defend the run. we all hate those 3 because they can't get to the qb or make a consistent pass rush. i totally agree. but at some point you need to realize that those 60% of the plays that are running plays those guys are pretty good at their job. Obviously you want a guy who is good at both (remember, teams tend to run at schobel because he isn't that great against the run), but those are a little harder to find. I hope Maybin learns FAST to defend the run. I know this will be his weakest point and hardest part of the learning curve. IF he can pick that up and learn how to get around slower LTs and get underneath the better ones, it be a very, very welcome addition. i personally don't expect to see thtat for 2 years though. unlike most bills fans its known that a player needs a few years to develop, and isn't a 'bust' immediately (ie James Hardy).

  9. "Trent Edwards played poorly in Buffalo's exhibition opener, but we'll guess that this mostly has to do with noodle-armed backup Ryan Fitzpatrick. If Edwards goes down (likely, considering his history), the Bills' offense would almost certainly fall apart. La Canfora suggests Mike Vick as an option."

Very interesting... guess they dont have 2 much trust in FITZ, dont blame them...

    Link

the TE haters need to shut the F up. the guy played fine. Vick is an ok Backup option due to experience but stupid bills fans who hate TE will clamor for the god-awful passer that is michael vick because they think its a good idea. Anyone with half a brain cell knows vick can't pass. he simply can't. he is jp losman but can scramble to avoid sacks. he has a cannon arm and no touch.

i dont careif he is a backup we sign, but anyone who lvoes the bills - get behind TE aleady...and if u dont like him the STFU because he's our QB...

  10. I watched it a dozen times, too. IMO, Levitre falling back definitely caused the ball to sail, but I'm not sure that the play would have been a completion. To me, Evans looked more open than he actually was because of the throwing lanes. The DB who looked like he was three yards away was actually closer than Evans to where the ball was going. It would have needed to be a perfect pass, just splitting the seam to be a completion. But perhaps that is where it would have ended up.

When I saw it live I just thought he overthrew. But I think it's pretty clear that he wanted to but couldn't follow through and anyone who has ever thrown a football or baseball knows what happens when the last part of a second you stop instead of follow through.

has anyone mentioned that it was a Titans backup DT that blew up Levitre (as per Chris Collinsworth during the broadcast)?

I loved the Levitre and Wood picks - as exhibited with my shouting at the draft. That said, Levitre is certainly a bit behind where Wood is, as we all know. Leverage is clearly an issue as he does have quick feet and was good when he needed to pull at times. He should be able to learn from this, especially watching game film, of how the DT got his hands inside him and bull rushed him. Wood is a little shorter and has a lower center of gravity, whereas Levitre is a bit taller and thinner. He's got to get a lower stance, especially against a guy like Wilfork or Jenkins because they are going to be rushing the left side frequently.

    so how is TO's toe?

  11. I'm not ready to anoint Stupar the next great thing, yet. However, Shouman and Fine have done very little to impress in actual games. So, I'm all in in. Seeing what we have at TE, I'd say keep 2 of them (Nelson and someone), and give the roster spots to someone that might actually contribute something.

common sense : Cut Schouman (everyone agrees he is undersized, poor blocker, and slow), keep fine (has some speed and great hands) and nelson, and use stupar for jumbo, goal line and strong I formations. He is a beast and holds his own well. If jauron can't see this, then I sure as heck don't want anyone from Yale in any position of authority anymore (see Bush, clintons, etc)

  12. Still stand by my sources that the Bills will be sold to the Jacobs family and the deal is already in place.

Thought it was interesting that the only corporation in the Buffalo News taking a full page ad honoring Ralph was the Jacob's Family and Delaware North.

ill believe that the day jacobs isn;t the owner of the bruins. id love to hear how you plan on him owning the team when NFL laws clearly states he cannot be a majority shareholder while owning another professional frnachise.

  13. They should also add that he routinely leads the NFL in getting his hands on the QB but allowing the QB to escape and complete a pass downfield instead of getting a sack...

that made me laugh aloud. hes not great, but he really is sold against run which is 1/2 the battle with your RDE. too bad his other 1/2 sucks

  14. A little harsh....Yeah all Bills fans know why he is starting..... But is is exciting to know that his development is coming along!!

his development is coming along? he's a backup tackle subbing for a injured player....

I've been at a few camps, and yes Bell is a good project, but thats it. this guy is NO where ready to play against a lineman even of schobel's caliber on a regular basis. At least Walker and Butler are able to lock up equally guys like schobel and kelsay. But Bell got blown around bye Ellis on one move and got swung under by Denney (i think) on another. He had a hard time locking onto and containing any of the bills' better DEs in 1 on 1 drills (a few times with denney and kelsay). I'm not saying he's bad by any means, or that he was horrible in 11 on 11. He looked very solid and impressive against 2nd string guys, but he is not ready for starting duty, at least from what I could see in a few practices. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but he is very raw still. Butler is certainly better. I'm just confused why Chambers isn't the starting RT tonight. that really shocks me. He is a pretty stable, albeit not a flashy, tackle.

  15. http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns...ory/753358.html

Is this speculation on his part or are there developments with any of the other draft picks that would affect Maybin's signing?

no its common sense. draft picks show up when guys before them sign so you can gauge their value. i doubt there are even any significant negotiations between parker and russ right now. sanchez's contract kinda threw things out of whack for a lot of people and i think that is the delay. granted he is a QB but he is making SO much more than other guys before him that it is really impacting what agent's fight for. thanks j e t s suck suck suck

  16. Yes, he held out. This is what has everybody upset. There was no way he could report in game shape. It isn't possible. I met Jumbo Elliot and asked him about Peters (I made a thread about it). He told me that it was absolutely not possible for a human to report after a holdout like this and be in shape to play LT in the NFL.

Part of the reason we lost Peters is because he was stubborn. The other part is because the Bills were also stubborn, and they do not place proper emphasis upon the OL positions. Hopefully this has changed looking at the 2009 draft, but it takes time to correct a long term philosophy of losing and idiocy. It takes even longer to replace a star LT in the NFL. They don't grow on trees, ya know?

correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Marv give Peters that first contract extension in 2006? so don't say it's marv's fault....

secondly, they though with bringing in dockery they had a solid left side of the line. watching him play in Washington, he was definitely an above average LG, but apparently just never got better here in buffalo. maybe that one's on marv. but I don't fault him for taking a starting safety where he did. sure it's not Ed Reed, newsflash, there aren't a lot of HOF safeties out there, but he is an above average SS that few people give him credit for... the major problem was Donahoe and to a degree Butler, for the mess we are still getting out of. Butler for the horrible, horrible contracts he gave players that resulted in Donahoe taking on 3 years of dead cap space and then Donahoe for always trying to "sell" the product by making splashy moves while ignoring the heart and soul of a team - the trenches - throughout the draft.

  17. The link states that Ralph has been the president since the Bill's inception. Wasn't some douche named Donahoe president for a while?

sometimes i think we all give ralph a hard time, and don't realize that any other owner would have left buffalo YEARS ago, heck well before I was born, for another more profitable city. Don't believe me? look at the Buffalo Braves - aka LA Clippers. It's a perfect case and point. We should all be so thankful enough that a man like Ralph chose to turn down what could have been multi-millions elsewhere to keep his team here. I don't think a lot of people in society, heck on this blog, would turn down the chance at making that kind of money at the cost of some "fans." But ralph has ALWAYS been about the fans. We B word about him not bringing in marquee players but people don't realized - he isn't a self made millionaire like the KRafts and Joneses of the league. His "millions" are not liquid assets they are all tied up in the bills! So, instead of us all harping on him being cheap, we should all thank him for the awesome memories we have of the Bills because he CHOSE to keep the team here when so many other men left for money. Truly, there are few men like him in business these days....

  18. Can someone answer this for me cause I dont know.

If Wood is so strong at G then shouldnt he be playing LG instead of RG? I would think that we would want him to hold down a good majority of the left side so that the LT can have more help. And doesnt the strongest of the DT's usually line up on that side as well? Or maybe we want him on the right side for the power running game.

Can someone help explain this to me.

    Thanks

woods biggest downfall is he has a hard time dealing with speed and is much more of a bruiser. Watch the senior bowl. He could handle Raji all day, but once a quick LB or a shifty safety came up, he had trouble adjusting and played off his heels. I suspect this is why he is at RG. Levitre's biggest plus is he is quick and agile, but is lacking the strength and brute force that Wood has. Knowing that LBs and Safeties tend to blitz more from the back side is probably the reason Levitre is at LG. You want to run over your STRONGEST guard and that is Wood, while you want your quickest and most agile being able to handle any speed rushers, which is Levitre.

    hope that makes sense.
