Anyone catch Thurman this morning?
rpcolosi replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sorry what is great success qualified as? In my book its qualified by at LEAST a SB appearance and multiple trips to the playoffs. Knox and Smith haven't done that... just bill... because he's amazing -
Anyone catch Thurman this morning?
rpcolosi replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
pretty sure that is only 50% true... SD has been just as dysfunctional as us (with a couple of better players and some playoff appearances). Going from 14-2 and firing the HC was a pretttty dumb move by aj smith, not to mention listening to fans and keeping LT over Turner and Sproles... -
the next billboard funded on the 190 should say "Hey Ralph - bring him home, Hire Chris Polian!" (more at link)

i made a post about this a few weeks back. not having him is a HUGE blow. i think he was "let go" when mularkey/donahoe were here, and he ended up with the Bears the year they went to the Super Bowl. Good luck sucking him back to Buffalo after living in Chi-town... things we need that are feasible for RW to actually do (ie wouldn't be totally out of character for him) 1.) fire Jauron, Guy and Carpenter 2.) Keep Brandon as COO (marketing/business) and bring someone like Chris Polian in as "VP of Football operations" (his current role in Indy) 3.) Attempt to bring along with Polian, Pete Metzelars and Frank Reich as position coaches (jobs they currently hold with the colts) to help re-connect with the fan base 4.) allow polian to hire his own HC i'm going to post some info i found on him in a different link

i'm just being captain obvious here. more importantly - this entire game changed when schobel went down. shows you how solid this D is with a pass rush. mccargo, spencer johnson, ellis and maybin all on the line at once. ouch.

have you seen the QB playi n the nfl? have you seen the disparity between good and bad teams? the pool of talented players is very low. they can't even think about expanding without further ruining parody which is why the nfl became so popular in the 80s and 90s...

Bills staying in Buffalo - The Economics 101
rpcolosi replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1.) its jerry jones, not jimmy 2.) you are assuming the bills market can't support higher ticket prices (we can probably get an average of $75-100/ticket, even higher with a winning product - don't believe me, look at the highest priced tickets for a single sabres game. it is MORE than doable) 3.) you are only comparing us to the largest markets, as opposed to markets more in our niche - ie minnesota, jacksonville, oakland, new orleans, etc. we will never be a boston or dallas in terms of revenue, thanks for the common sense. 4.) revenue sharing is only partially built on ticket sales. luxury boxes obviously play a role and we will always be behind in that. however, merchandise sales are huge. the importance of a winning product is none more noticeable than this. in addition to allowing for better prices in marketing it also allows for higher merchandise sales which boost the franchises revenue. again, don't think this is possible, simply look at the sabres who had the highest jersey sales in the NHL when they switched logos. my point is not that you are wrong, but that you are taking data and drawing one conclusion off of it. of course if the NFL was made up of all Dallas, NE, Washington and NY teams we'd be effed. fortunately it is not. Will we ever be a top market? no. but we can be a financially sound lower tier market - and thats just fine with me. -
yes it is ridiculous because you are basing stats that have no statistical relationship to each other because there is no comparable sample size.

goodness he hasn't even played this year! are you really posing this? gosh... bills fans (or at least half of the people on this blog) are some of the most impatient dumba$$es I have ever seen. TONs of great receivers did nothing until their 3 or 4th season. See Eric Moulds... let alone a guy like Hardy who hasn't even been on the field yet. Plus, DeSean Jackson has a great QB and is the only good WR on that team - the opposite is true here with TO and Lee in front of him... Hardy, Stevie Johnson, Reed and Lee will be a good 4 wrs for next season. hopefully Nelson comes back healthy, because the kid has talent and looked great in game 1. if we get a qb or have a qb that decides to utilize them we'd be much better off a year from now.

really we only missed P williams and Leonard of those. we draft too many CBs (and actually decent ones) to miss winfield or greer for the money they got. Adams didn't have much gas in the tank left. Fletcher tackled everyone 10 yards downfield from behind and got blown up way too often in short yardage situations. i love the guy to death but he isn't a big enough MLB, despite his 'tackle stats.' the other guy i really miss is justin bannan actually. the Raven's used him a lot and he's a pretty solid DT. hes certainly more valuable than mccargo.

is he a bigger bust then mike williams since we traded up to get him?? though im interested in why polian wanted him.. that does make his stock a little higher

Jeff Fisher Could Be On The Outs In Tennessee
rpcolosi replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
he's a good coach who has had good GMs as well. he won't be coming to buffalo. we all know ralph isn't going big. -
Runyan: I got no feedback at all from Buffalo
rpcolosi replied to John Gianelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
my guess is he's asking for a fair amount of money and the bills know he's not a long term answer. -
hey unlike fitz this guy actually has thrown more TDs than INTs in his career and had at least 1 decent season. im all for it. esp since hamdan would be bad in NFL europe
-
why is hamdan still on this team? there is no way he is better than: ramsay, charlie frye, brooks bollinger. there is also no chance he is our "developmental" qb. though JP would have commanded more money - he's not a bad idea for a backup..... just waiting to see peoples reaction!

Pondering the game and future of the team.
rpcolosi replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
great assessment top to bottom. I'm somewhat in agreement on Brandon. I think, sadly, Ralph/Marv are responsible for DJ still being here. I'm also not totally against Modrak staying on. he has done a decent job drafting talent. across theNFL, we have a decent number of starters off draft picks - not necessarily at the top of "homegrown" talent, but pretty good. I think more has to do with coaching/schemes then talent. He's a decent college evaluator that is our only real knowledgable football guy. Who I have a major problem with is John Guy. His pro scouting is atrocious. Mitchell has been well below average as a SSLB. I have a feeling the Stroud trade was more Brandon then anyone, and its not rocket science to know he was good. Spencer johnson is adequate. I also put Melvin Fowler, Langston Walker, Derrick Dockery, Will Harris, etc all on him. He clearly has done a poor job in scouting the pro's for "talent at a bargain." his only hit that I can think of recently is maybe Hangartner and Florece, but again, it was known Florence was good and just played poorly in the Jax scheme. Bottom line.. finish season 7-9, show RW that continuity sucks and fire Jauron and Guy. Allow Brandon to be the "new" donahoe, and let him run the show with Modrak staying on OR bring in a "senior analyst" ala a bruce allen, carl peterson, etc. Someone to help steer this team. I'd love to see Marty Schott come in or a legit GM liek Holmgren (and keep brandon on as COO) but knowing ralph, he's not going to eat 6mil on Jauron and then shell out $10 -15 more for a HC/GM. Sadly, I think this is a pretty realistic scenario. But on the bright side the more we suck the more the NFL in toronto experiment fails and the better the odds are we keep the team. I'm willing to suffer 2 more 7-9 season to know that when I ship back from Japan we'll still be playing games in the Ralph... -
Fitzpatrick...How many times were you saying
rpcolosi replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yea... the only one he knew where it was going was the TD. the bomb was about as good as TEs - underthrown. -
lots of players to trade in the offseason
rpcolosi replied to ishouldbegm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
none are worth a 2nd, combined not a 2nd. stay with TE even as a backup. whitner at SS with byrd would be gerat. parrish is worth nothing better than a 6th. should have traded him last year -
the saints and dolphins are not the jets and panthers buddy... if you are excited about these wins, you are clearly a huge dick jauron fan. this is all he'll ever get ya...
-
we must remember he wasn't aided by this many turnovers. we have put up 20 pts with 4 turnovers and 16 points with 6 turnovers.... our offense has been WORSE under fitzpatrick... ahhh!
-
we are winning becuase of turnovers and improved ST play. our defense is still giving up a lot of yardage and we are winning IN SPITE of our offense. Fitzpatrick is a step down from TE. Had we played this way on ST and had these turnovers go in our favor we too would have won against cleveland. we have beaten 2 bad teams (the jets are not good), so its typical jauron football.
-
yes it is amjority of time the LBs. our front 4 has been pretty solid. stroud and williams are still eating up blockers and making plays in the backfield often enough. stroud has a ton of tackles for a DT. on a better team he'd be gettin a lot of publicity. would love to have Cody. we need someone to replace stroud in a few years and it be nice to have someone like big pat or ted again. next year we NEED an OT, DT and LBs badly. frankly i'd take those over a QB at this point unless we can get one in the mid rounds. i def dont go first round on McCoy, Bradford or that kid from washington. maybe Tebow in the 3rd or 4th if he's there. if not, maybe derek anderson? he probably needs a change of scenary much like edwards.

How much would Bell have to improve?
rpcolosi replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
such disregard we drafted 2 last year and signed one in FA? and actually signed an above center? The times i've been able to re-watch film hangartner has been significantly better than any bills center in 5 years. he's not great or flashy, but he holds his own against some pretty good DTs. I was actually impressed John Guy scouted him... which means it must have been someone else. this year we will go for DT/OT/LB in draft and free agency if brandon has his way (imo). -
Lots of good questions. 1.) Denney is a better pass rusher than Kelsay. Kelsay has always been solid against the run, this is why the bills still like him as a starter and why Sports Inc like's him too. Denney also is used more in 3rd down situations and obvious passing downs. he should be getting more chances to rush the qb 2.) why did we do it in the 2nd round? a.) 2003 - mcgahee was somewhat necessary in that Henry had major character flaws. which we then found out willis had his own. taking kelsay in the 2nd round wasn't a bad pick. the only DEs taken before him were Ty Warren (NE - 20.5 sacks) 13overall, calvin pace 18th (switchted to olb), tyler brayton 32nd OAK 11 sacks, then kelsay at 48th with 19. He has been better than those taken in front of him but we missed badly on Osi Umenyora taken 10 picks later b.) 2002 - (worst bills draft ever) - 1st DE was Freeney at 11, bryan thomas at 22 to NYJ with 23sck, charles grant 25 NOR with 45 sacks, kalimba edwards 35th to detroit with 31 sck, 61 denney with 23 sacks. all the best ones taken before we picked, though had we not taken mike williams ..... ok ill stop there. the DE everyone missed on was Aaron Kampan in the 5th c.) 2001 - VERY deepy year for DEs. Also, was necessary to draft Clements knowing Winfield was headed for FA soon and would collect big (which he did). names of DEs/DTs that went in 1st round - gerrad warren, justin smith, richard seymour, andre carter ,marcus stroud (all top 15 picks), kyle vanden bosch at 34 and Schobel at 46. *** to note most sacks of this class is Aaron Schobel *** most INT of this class and 2nd most tackles - Nate Clements this was one of our best 1st and 2nd rounds (also got T-henry in 2nd) as a franchise. though, i wish we had gotten brees in the 2nd, but knowing bills fans we would get SO mad he sucked for 3 years that we'd want Fitzpatrick in before he blew up in year 4.... oh wait a minute...

abbbsolutely none. do we really think Brandon will be fired? He has been AMAZING at marketing this team. Granted he is COO not technically GM. The only way we considering hiring a GM is if Ralph makes it clear the GM is in charge of all football personnel decisions only and ralph then get's rid of his salary cap guys.... bottom line - he'll find a senior scout and maybe vp of football operations. he's too loyal to who he has there that he won't fire anyone outside of maybe modrak and guy, and i really only think Guy and Jauron are going to go.
