why would you want to draft something that is no guarantee of working (see losman and all our other wasted 1st rounders) when you know you can get someone with some upside? the last time we tried it was a disaster I agree (rob johnson) - but I'm pretty sure Kolb and Croyle have as much or more upside then Clausen or Bradford, especially after his injury. I'm just saying - both those guys might cost a 1st rounder to get - we could get Kolb or Croyle for a 2nd, and it's a safe bet they are better than ANY qb we'd get in the 2nd round. Not to mention cost effectiveness - the money we'd save on a 4yr contract for say Croyle vs 1st round money to Bradford is night and day... when looking at it form that perspective, its far better then drafting a question mark in round 2 or 3 and it allows you to use your 1st on what your team really needs - an OL. I'm just saying... If either of them is available for a 2,3 or 4th their value is FAR greater then what you'd get at that position draft wise. A 2nd rounder like Jarius Byrd is rare. A 2nd rounder like Hardy or 3rd rounder like Yobuty and Ellis is far more likely for any team, not just a team run by Modrak/Guy/Jauron.

actually this team should trade a draft pick or two considering our last 10 years of drafting has been horrible. George Allen helped build the 'skins by trading away every draft pick for proven commodities. While this is a stupid thing to do now a days, it is a very good method of getting good, readily available NFL talent for a team that is NOT a desired destination amongst FAs. That is Buffalo. Its not a wonder our best personnel move of the past 5 years has come via trade - the Stroud deal. We can NOT attract FAs nor are we in a position to start throwing money at people (ie Kawika) to get them here. We are better off trading for commodities at this point and drafting smartly.

Offensive Line Free Agents for 2010
rpcolosi replied to WVUFootball29's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
he just hit us with some truth... I'm still dumbfounded we didnt take Ngata. That is beyond me. Kiper had us pegged for him as well. Ugh Marv.... -
pennington is the worst of those options since he is extremely injury prone and can't throw an out pattern to save his life anymore. he has zero zip on his passes but is an excellent decision maker. He's kind of like a Jamie Moyer - gets by with nothing... Vick isn't exactly someone I want on this team unless he comes attached with Dungy. Just not sure he is the leader or face of this franchise we need going forward... Losman showed a lot more after working under fassell. He's still young and an intriguing choice if he ever learns to be a better decision maker. he'll never read a defense as good as kelly or peyton, you are correct, but played well this past year. would really like to see Oakland play him these next two games and see what he's got.

This is the best compilation I could come up with: Young guys we should trade for and develop (not named Brohm) - Curtis Painter or Drew Willy (both colts) Someone we could trade for and start next year - 1.) Troy Smith (he's VY but a better passer and a little slower) 2.) Delhomme (he might just need a change of scenery, worth a shot if cut) 3.) Brodie Croyle (has shown flashes the past 2 years, never got a chance cause he was thrown into the fire immediately) 4.) Pennington (we'd be a missed tackle away from Fitzpatrick again, and Lee would never see a deep ball) 5.) Losman (yes i still think he's got something) 6.) Todd Collins (still has a rocket, not many miles on him, and has shown that he has grown since he was last a Bill) 7.) Alex Smith (I doubt that San Fran wants to dump him now, but if they go back to Shaun Hill I'd like him) ---side note - he is the reason I don't think we should give up on Trent yet Or should've given up on Losman. and the one guy I'd LOVE to get if we could pry him from the Eagles is 8.)Kevin Kolb... guy looks like Aaron Rodgers just biding his time behind an HOFer and we know McNabb isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Our best bet is clearly the trade route for one of these guys. probably the most upside is Kolb with Delhomme being the best bet of the veterans. So there you have it. Thats my research from top to bottom of every roster in this league. Brandon, if you are listening, start dangling a 3rd rounder for some of these guys...

Replace that line with this : Levitre, Wood, Hangartner, Incongnito, Butler and I'm content. Bell is far too raw and Chambers is fine as a backup. Hangartner has been very good this year handling bigger DTs. I don't know why some on this board dont give him credit. He has not been pushed back often in pass protection and has been excellent in run blocking and gets to the second level often. most inside rushers that have gotten pressure have been the guards fault, not so much his, at least from what I can tell. On of the nice things we've seen the past few weeks is that Levitre has probably been the best LT we have had all season... He is smaller then I'd like, but if he gets to the 315 range I am completely OK with him manning that position. Let's see how he does if Mathis or Freeney lines up against him in a week.

so you'd rather jp losman? tebows arm is great....
-
I kidn of thought Todd Collins... he makes some great throws, takes a hit and still has a cannon arm. he might have been a late bloomer...

not sure if any of you knew this, but it's a straight up rip off from the Bills, even down to the color schemes and everything.... http://www.howard-bison.com/landing/index

Buffalo a "real player" for Vick next year
rpcolosi replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See if this helps and gives you more insight to what I was thinking. Sorry I'm poor at putting thoughts into words... you're the average Bills fan, you go to 2 games a year, buy a TO in the BLo Shirt, etc. Spend say $300 the whole season on the Bills and say 50 hours of your life watching their games on TV. Suddenly they sign MICHAEL VICK and you pull your 50 hours of life and $300 back because of his dog fighting history. My issue is, are these same people being so decisive with their time and money in regards to other, major issues going on in the world? Or do we care only so much about football, the bills and animal cruelty that it takes a team signing a player for us to take ACTION in regards to our time and finances? I hope not, but I simply fear this is indeed the case. Are these same people already putting that same 50 hours in serving at a homeless shelter or using that $300 to donate to troops overseas for the holidays? Thats what I'm getting at... ON a side note - I'd like to bring him into camp and see what he's got left. I think he is a horrible pocket passer with no accuracy but he's done one thing that neither TE or Fitz has and thats throw more TDs then INTs for a career. I'm done, have at it, mock me, ridicule me, I'm brain dead, etc etc... -
Buffalo a "real player" for Vick next year
rpcolosi replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the point of my post is in regards to forgiving Vick and moving on. If people are willing to dump a football team because of one man's stupid decision to get involved with dog fighting, then so be it. I just wonder if they'd do the same thing for a team that signs a guy like Ray Lewis, Ray Bucchanan, etc. Perhaps I'm wrong for assuming someone cares "too much" for animal rights when they willing to act so decisively over one signing... But I don't see enough people acting so decisively about human rights issues that are staring us right in the face. It's hardly anything personal but is far more something against Americans in general who are so "adamant" and "decisive" about acting on a team signing Vick. Are we so passionate about sports that we will aggressively change our actions based on animal rights issues? If that is the case, perhaps we should be just AS aggressive in fighting those things I've mentioned. Sadly this is not the case. Certainly, I do not know the poster, nor would I ever make any unfounded accusations. But is is EXTREMELY apparent by what the media portrays that NFL fans are very motivated and divided over Vick because of animal cruelty. The point of my post is, are these people only so decisive on animal rights issues? Or are they living out the rest of their lives with urgency and aggressiveness to fight those things I had mentioned. If not, then it is a major, major issue with the priorities of people in this country. I understand this may be a little deep and beyond most people here, but its a telling fact when NFL fans are willing to act so strongly on something that involves dogs. I simply hope that we as NFL fans are acting with even more fervor (since you do say we all care about Human Rights more) on those issues. And as to why is this posted here?? It's december, the Bills still suck, we are irrelevant until April, and all Bills fans need a distraction come playoff time. I am sure I'm not the only one who gets completely bummed out knowing it was my freshman year of college we last made it to the playoffs... Never should have ripped down that Doug Flutie life sized poster... -

yes animal rights... so important with troops dying in Iraq/Afghan everyday, 60% of the world living on less then $2/day, and countless others being kidnapped and roped into the sex trade leading to a $42billion/year industry. yes, lets worry about the animals. gosh peoples priorities are SERIOUSLY out of whack if something like that motivates you. if those other 3 things aren't in front of animal rights, may I ask you to ponder it? Cause human life is i don't know....COMPLETELY more important! also - dogs are great for training as hunting companions to hunt things like rabbits, pheasant, etc. I love dogs to death, and my beagle means the world to me. but never over the suffering that billions of humans on this plant go through daily. -
$10 Million dollars on the table and no one wants it?

"Established types who may command 10M per aren't attracted to complete rebuilding projects. Bills tickets are too cheap
rpcolosi replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In addition we could have avoided that whole Toronto fiasco if we had simply done this. We still should be trying to sell the naming rights to the stadium too. An extra $2-3mil per year is the difference between a guy like Adalius Thomas and Kawikaa Mitchell (thomas is hte better player, even if he is in Bellicheat's dog house). -

rpcolosi replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i feel the EXACT same way. there are tons of these guys. Bills tickets can go up another $15-20 bucks, and we'd still sell out. If we have condo's selling for over $1mil in this city now, we certainly have enough people able to spend 60-70 on a Bills game. This is obvious because we can spend that much on sabres games... real quick and extra $20 per ticket would give you roughly $8.4mil per year - say 60,000 tickets (excluding suites, i think those are as high as tehy can go) at a $20 increase for 7 games... well there's your money to pay jason peters... -
ditto. we will go with GM first, the right way. The reason they talked to Cowher, Holmgren, Shannahan is those were all potential GM/HC combos. at this point, the bills will be smart, select a GM/DFO and allow him to run the show. The only guy/guys i would think that have a shot of being retained are modrak and buddy nix.

ok, so there is tons of bickering on this board about POZ sucking or us reaching for him or whatever. My personal feelings are he is a solid MLB. i don't think he is great and i don't think he sucks. he's slower then i'd like but he reads plays better then most MLBs. anyway - here is my draft break down from 2007 and determination in whether we drafted the "right" guy. #34 overall - Pozluzny LBs taken prior - #10 - Patrick willis (right before marshawn, I believe this was originally the Bills top LB choice, at least Kiper had mentioned that), nothing needs to be said, best LB in this draft class, hands down. forming a great LB crew with TKO #15 Lawrence Timmons - PIT - ILB, great pass rusher, 6 sacks this year and 5 last year. Does play in a 3-4 with a hell of a defensive coordinator #25 - Jon Beason - CAR - MLB, seems to be a solid tackler, but i really dont watch him much. averages 3 ints/120 total tackles, pretty solid, only 2 career sacks LBs after Poz (of note) #47 DAvid Harris - NYJ - ILB, 3-4 - very solid LB, good pass rush and has speed. plays in a 3-4 and has a good number of sacks. pretty much like Timmons but on the Jets #48 Justin Durant - MLB - his stats are pretty weak, i haven't heard much about him, nor do i think i should based off his career numbers. Final thought - I think Poz is far better than Durant and maybe the same level as Beason. Timmons and Harris are clearly better, but it's hard to compare a 3-4 ILB with a MLB. that said, they are clearly much faster and better pass rushers then Poz. it's almost not even an option with him. I think we did reach some for him, but based on our draft position and need, its understandable. I would have preferred Harris though. the rest of this draft was bad for us... CJ Ah You? Dewayne Wright? John Wendling? wow... pretty awful. Solution - Draft a REAL MLB and Move Poz to Strong side. He is a good LB but his lack of pass rush ability really limits his options. His above average cover skills and ability o read plays is huge and helps a lot in our scheme. REAL solution that wont happen - go to a 3-4 and get another ILB...

bryan scott has really shocked me by playing so well at linebacker. its his natural position he's just undersized, shocker i know. but he is even slower than Whitner at SS. he just doesn't take such bad angles. I'd be interested in seeing what George Wilson does at SS and keep byrd as FS. whitner really looked silly on that run by charles. granted, its one play, but as a saftey you have to read that right. i do not blame poz, if you slow down the replay he was held on his blitz and picked the right gap. he actually forces the runner inside. oh well. a win is a win. here comes 7-9!

The "It's Hard to win in this League" quote

because the quote is "it's hard to win in the NFL" and "its hard to win a football game" -
i have insider but can not find this article anywhere. link please?

actually, as much as i love polian and believe he is hte best GM in the NFL, this is the one area i don't per se agree with him. the one thing he has never proved is that he can draft a good QB. he inherited Jimbo and Peyton, and when he did draft with the panthers it was kerry collins who is "eh" at best. i'd trust someone like Holmgren weighing in on Tebow.
-
you must be referring to the glory days of the 64 and 65 team. beacuse those 90s bills had PLENTY of divas.... thruman and jimbo bickered plenty! so did andre with his earrings, crazy flat tops, etc. the biscuit? he was a loud mouth too... when you are good - you let people know it. TO is good and he backs up wiht his play. we need a few more like that, and then a bunch of eric wood/kent hull types.
-
Grimm... and maybe heimerdinger. the rest aren't anything special and remind me of john fox.

Poz is NOT the problem and Fletcher was beyond undersized and made most of his tackles 10yds in the backfield. Poz is not your ideal MLB in a tampa II because he isn't fast. He is the ideal SS backer. however, the guy makes plenty of hits at the LOS and yes gets dragged 2-3 yards for a 2 yd gain. newsflash - this happens to just about every MLB in the game. go watch some other teams. You're going to see ray lewis make tackles he gets dragged on. same with aaron curry. same with urlacher, etc. our problem is the other 2 are LBs are VERY slow and undersized. Poz is strong enough to shed blockers but he is froced to take bad angles because of his lack of speed. He is ideal for strong side if we ever drafted some competent LBs. also - i hate to rain on everyones parade, but ellison was having a pretty damn good year. and i can't stand the guy Stroud is still our best player on O and D. Kyle Williams is the best draft pick of the Levy era. Lynch/Jackson are still a great problem to have. And with the right coaching Trent could be saved (and so could JP). bring in Gabriel please and have him hire a HC - maybe Fassell, maybe Billick, but not Shanny for $10mil/year. spend that on some talented players
