now he would be an ideal fit as an end in a 3-4... Just got released by Denver today. Plus he is an OSU alum. I'm not saying he will be a pro-bowler, but he'd be a good depth player at DE instead of Kelsay or Denney, etc. here's a scouts take on him: Peterson, who has been a backup roll player with the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos, may finally get his chance to earn a starting role with the new coaches and defensive scheme in Denver. He played in 16 games, starting one, in 2008 accumulating 24 tackles and three sacks. He never really fit the even front in that he lacked the explosiveness of the edge to be a top-line pass rusher and lacked the size and strength to hold up against interior offensive linemen and stack the play up at the point of attack. As a 3-4 defensive end he will be more effective as he continues to improve his techniques with hand use and leveraging his way to the ball. He is a good athlete with body control and above average short area quickness but still needs to work on recognizing blocking schemes and locating the level of the ball.

I see a lot of people assuming he is an end in a 3-4. why are we not thinking of him as a DT? if he can get into the 330 range he'd be a solid body for the middle. Maybe not Ted Washington or Sam Adams at near 375 (lets not kid ourselves) but still solid. he's significantly wider then stroud or Spencer (by 20lbs). Again - I think at the ends a 6'4 280ish is fine, but in the middle you want a body that can eat up blockers, which i do think Williams does well (as per a friend who is a die hard minnesota fan). A front 3 of Stroud - Kennedy - K.Williams would be fine with me, especially if we often moved Schobel up and williams inside more wiht a 3-4over system. I'd really be a big fan of this, as Stroud will be a handful for any RT to take on strength wise, not to mention the height of both Kennedy and Stroud would help clog passing lanes, an often overlooked quality in D-linemen. Conspiracy theory regarding the Bills

Chan Gailey past draft history
rpcolosi replied to billnutinphoenix's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
um ya. WE are all going nutz about not getting anyone in FA, but has NO one listened to them? they said - add PIECES, not stars. You draft stars. Look at the Steelers with Whaley there and look the charger with nix - I can't come up with any big name FA personnel, other than maybe Justin Hartwig and the Chris Chambers trade for SD. So everyone needs to chill the F out and relax. In addition - the new lease with the Ralph hopefully will involve Mr. Wilso alive and well... thats the best hope for our team to stay. -
FWIW: Green is a 10-year veteran who had little starting experience until he arrived in Oakland two years ago. He started every game in 2008 and has good size and strength for the RT position. He has adequate balance and body control in passing situations. He lacks ideal foot quickness when matched up with speed rushers, but shows good hand use and can push defenders past the pocket once he opens his hips. He has improved his awareness and reactions to stunts. In the run game, he comes off the ball with adequate pad level. He will get overextended at times and has trouble recovering once he gets his weight forward. He does a good job as a positional blocker and can sustain contact with wide hand placement. whether it's depth or as a starter at RT for a year or two it will do. We need some big bodies and he has a RT body. I'm not asking for a pro bowler, but someone who is an above avg run blocker would be nice. He is already better then Bell and Chambers. This isn't shocking as when Buddy was with SD they also got modest FA o-linemen and drafted a bunch as well. expect the same thing.

Andre Reed wants Trent Edwards at QB
rpcolosi replied to merlin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
not sure where you heard this or where he said it, but i know for a fact he has watched many a game at a bills bar in San diego with friends of mine. he also is a very friendly and easy to talk to guy. I'd like to see the bills start using Fred Jackson out of the slot more to be honest, or motion him outside and get him matched up on some CBs or Safties. Start in a split backfield with Marshawn. We have used it in the past to some success and it provides us a matchup problem because 1.) he has wheels and 2.) he is actually a great pass catcher (not to be confused with punt catch chris watson). 3.) I am hoping we use FJ a lot less on returns this year and either get Roscoe back in the fold or let Leodis take the majority of them with McGee possible filling in for kickoffs. I trust Dehaven... Go Bills!!! -
Amen brother.....

I'd be content getting Dwan Edwards at a modest price...

So I am a doctor and here's my take. He'll be back and more then able to play but it won't be early this year (if they are smart). You are correct, a fracture such as that will stretch and tear ligaments and tendons. However these can be inserted back into position and stabilized for a length of time to allow for healing. The biggest challenge will come in getting his strength and range of motion back. Again - I think Wood should be able to play again, however I don't believe this is something they should rush and we should prepare to play the year without him, to be frank. The kid has the makings of a a great career interior lineman along with Levitre. We may be best served getting a guy like Mawae for a year and moving hangartner back to Guard or something along those lines. again - if we are smart, we'll take our time on this injury and eat his contract this year knowing he has a bright and long future in buffalo along with Levitre.

Larry foote. I'd like to think we would have a shot at him with whaley on board. -
agreed.... now if he is there at #9 and 4 of the best OL are gone... do we take him??
-
Lefevour is the answer... his arm is certainly strong enough. Lets hope we get him in round 3... thorner needs to get off the clausen and bradford love train

Probably another terrible rumor

he's the don mattingly of the buffalo bills... his time's up

what we should be asking is, why whitner? i mean seriously somebody wants to offer up something decent for him? if hte pick is a 6th or 7th, that deal is a no brainer. he's already better then fitz and Trent part 2. he'd make the qb competition better.... still would rather reunite thigpen with Gailey and draft Lefevour
-
well they say "hybrid" but it basically means - if we have personal for a 3-4 we will play it at times, and when tehy need a rest we'll use our 4-3 scheme to get other guys in. i can't imagine we will have the depth to play a 3-4 for an entire game. however, if we still have the likes of schobel and kelsay on the roster, it won't hurt to run a 4-3 nickel or dime in some passing situations. this, i believe, is similar to what the phins did when they were in between. Taylor wasn't always an OLB, there were times he played the RDE in a 4-3. It will take 2-3 years before its a full blown 3-4. But I agree, just to start out in it, you need a true NT and Stroud is not the guy. In fact, he might be one heck of a 3-4 end. Hampton or someone in the draft should be the odds on favorite to start at NT. And I wouldn't be surprised if we wait on OL until rounds 3, 4 and 5. Lots of good OL come in the mid rounds and plenty of bad ones come in the first.

We Should Take this Guy in RD 6 or 7
rpcolosi replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
um no... you know who else had defective cartilage in the knee and never came back??? Angelo Crowell. but hey i'm just a dentist, I'm not a real doctor... -
as a base form it doesn't work in the NFL because it would require a lineman to go into coverage on a tight end at times. Some teams still go to 5 down linemen and 2 lbs depending on offensive scheme, etc. it's not uncommon to see this in a dual receiver I formation or dual TE, single back and 2 wrs. But as a base scheme it's not very effective do to coverage liabilities with DEs on TEs and RBs in the flat. I would like to see 5 down linemen used once in awhile, especially in 3rd down situations, just to see if a guy like stroud could maul over a 1 on 1 guard and pressure the qb into some mistakes.

for the record my friend at ESPN is the guy who edits/publishes a lot of Kipers stuff and is the one who put this pick in there. The mocks will change over the next few weeks, but Mel said to my friend he thinks the Bills will have a decent shot at getting him unless there is a big shakeup at the combine. IMO, It's just a matter of is he the best guy on Nix and Modrak's board or do they want to go defensive side of the ball first.... should be interesting

An Alternative to a New Stadium for Buffalo
rpcolosi replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
that would work except we are cutting out almost 25,000 seats in that design. im all for something like that, but we need to keep the stadium between 70 and 80,000 to keep prices low and maximize revenue. but i VERY much like the exterior designs on it. this is the 50-60mil rehab ive been saying the ralph needs. nice find! -
new stadium?? be careful what you ask for...
rpcolosi replied to rpcolosi's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
valid point on staying up with the rest of the league. but instead of building a new one, i'd much rather see another multi million dollar rehab of the ralph. it would be cheaper and easier to modify the stadium in its current state then to build one costing upwards of 400million. i simply don't see ralph, golisano, the league or teh state ponying up that kind of money. and especially not erie county. however, if it required say 25-50mil in renovations, that is far more plausible. there is already a precedent for this (both lambeau and soldier field had huge renovations) and the bills/erie county did so back in the late 90s. in addition, golisano immediately invested into HSBC once he purchased the team. if he were to own the bills it is quite possible he would recognize the same need. my bottom line is - the ralph is at that point where we can update it while maintaing its traditional feel, which is being lost in many stadiums today. i'd personally like to see some more esthetic things done to the outsdie of hte stadium (especially the main signage in front). certainly the bathrooms need to be upgraded, as would the club seats and boxes. but all in all, the design of the stadium is optimal for teh everyday fan and really gives us a place that is significantly louder then most others... -

rpcolosi replied to rpcolosi's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if you want a nice, new stadium go to cleveland. let me know how well you can see the game for the same priced ticket as the ralph. also, there is something endearing about the trough style bathrooms at the ralph. makes me feel like im at an old time football game, the way it should be.
