  1. My predictions are:

    Bills 31

    Chiefs 17

Fitz looks just a little better than average.

Jackson and Spiller go off for 200 combined

    Johnson 80yards 1 TD

the defense completely stops the run. They have barely 100 yards on the ground all day between all thier backs.

    Merriman has a sack

    Dareus looks monsterous

Barnett makes us all forget who the Poz ever was

  2. The fact that Dope and the Lapdog think he's being rediculous tells me it's a good thing. I was on my way home listening to these @ssclowns talk about it. It's no different than anything Rex Ryan would say and the entire world loves his FAT @SS!

WGR needs to either just not talk about about the Bills or at least not be so damn negetive. I know the last 10+ years have been horrible but cmon man, if you can't be excited for opening football Sunday and your already calling for 4-12 and Andrew Luck you shouldn't even bother following this team.

I love th confidence of Chan even if it was BS and he's just saying it to keep people excited I'd rather have that than anyone since we've had Marv.

    GO BILLS!!!

  3. I'd rather win 2 games than one any day of the week. Just saying. Regardless of division opponent or not. So no!

IMO if we have a good first game against the Chiefs an win with a purpose we will be flying high going into week 2 at home against the Raiders. It will show we can stop the run of both those teams (if we win we will have to stop the run) and will give us a whole new sense of confidence on defense. I don't think our offense will have many problems. It was shown last year our defense was the big problem. With 2 wins to start the season and our team as confident as it's been in years we COULD suprise everyone and beat the Pats.

    Go Bills!

  4. We really have a large group of guys that not only can but have proven they can return and proved it.

    Smith

    Spiller

    Parrish

    McGee

    Jackson

and you have other guys that have done it in preseason or done it on another level and so far look pretty good or at least average:

    Rogers

    Searcy

    Easley

We really have great depth at the position. I doubt were going to have any problems getting someone on the field.

I understand you point as why we have him doing it when we have others and we don't want to put him in a position to get injured or worn out. I don't think he will be doing it in rhe regular season much if at all. It was probably just a way of getting him as many snaps as possible. Maybe giving him opportunities to get his confidence back as well.

Personally I think you'll see Smith a bit at KR and PR but the majority will go to Spiller at least early in the season to get him as many touches as possible in a game. You'll see Rogers 2nd most as he has shown in the Lions game he is quick and shifty. He's small and undersized for what this coaching staff is looking for as a DB and IMO his return ability is the reason he was picked instead of Corner to make the team. He will probably take over full duty by mid season for CJ unless there is an injury in the defensive backfield.

    Just my .02

  5. Merriman and Dareus are expected to break out so I can't use them.

Batten shows us all what the coaches saw last year

Carrington will make the coaches look like genius' for drafting him

Kelsey will look much improved from last year

Spiller will break out in a big way. 1500 yards total recieving and rushing IMO

Aiken, Easley, Nelson will all show they can be our starting WRs for years to come and make us forget about Evans.

  6. Best games IMO would probably be:

    Comeback game #1

    Raider game #2

unfortunately I wasn't in attendance to either game but do remember them very well.

Bet games I've been too, regardless of team/season/meaningful wins or losses:

Monday night against the Cowgirls. By far best game I've ever been to. The excitement that night was absolutely electric from start to finish. I'll never forget it. Man I just wish we won that game.

The snow game against the Colts a year or two ago was amazing to be at. Just a ton of fun. Regardless if it was meaningful or not.

The Raider game last year or the year before when we came back to win it at the end. Again, just another fun game with a lot of excitement. I was passed out sick in the stands. I couldn't tell anyone what happened to me that game. The fans around me were warned not to touch or talk to me by my buddies. A very rare occurance to be honest. I woke up feeling like a million bucks and we started to come back and it was great. To tuis day people I sit with say It was like as soon as I woke up so did the team. It was alot of fun.

Other memorable games for me when I was a kid was winning the division or locking up the playoffs (can't remember) against the Jets. Me and my buddy with his father. We kept yelling at everyone that we were gonna rip down the goal posts. That never happened but it was fun.

I think 1990ish. We had Lofton and Kelly connected with him on the first or second play from scrimage for a long TD in the scoreboard end zone. I remember Lofton fanning his arms out to his sides as he eased into the endzone. The next year they made a football card of him in that play. Was great.

The snow game against Miami when they came back out of nowhere as a blizzard hit right at halftime when they came back to the field you couldn't see a thing.

I think the comeback games are so much more exciting than anything else. Nothing is more fun than being in a game when it's a defensive battle with the stands going crazy making tons of noise. The Monday night game for me had it all.

  7. As others have said - the upgrade is Fitz starting instead of Edwards. Smith will clearly have more of a positive impact than Brown, Brohm, and Edwards did combined.

Along with Dareus, I'd add the extra 30 pounds on Carrington and Troup and say a significant upgrade.

Davis was the best LB on the team last year when he was healthy.

People don't want to hear it - but Kelsay looks MUCH better at OLB this year with a full season to adjust.

Sheppard and a healthy Batten are further upgrades from last year, and Morrison is legiitmate quality depth (unlike Torbor and Ayodele).

HUGE upgrade for the LB unit - even if Merriman misses time...!

Williams >> Corner. Hopefully we'll feel like Wilson >= Whitner.

I'd call the DB's more of a push for now.

Punt returns are still good - but clearly it's a no change. If Moorman bounces back from arguably his worst season, that would help.

If I told you last November our starting LB's included a healthy Andra Davis, Kirk Morrison, Sheppard, Batten, and Moats, you'd have been thrilled with the upgrade over Torbor and Ayodele. Sure Merriman and Barnett are good and a big upgrade, but they aren't the whole upgrade, so the overall upgrade is hardly "fragile".

Evans' 40 catches 4 TD's/season are pretty damned easy to offset. He is no loss - sorry. My pet golden retriever is an upgrade over Evans.

The OL core of talent on the team improves every year they can stay healthy and play together - Bell-Levitre-Wood are still babies for NFL O-linemen. There's every reason to believe they just keep getting slowly better for the next several years through experience.

This ignores that last year, while adjusting to the new schemes, and starting Edwards while showcasing Lynch for a trade, they started 0-8 and finished 4-4, and that they had 3 losses in O/T to playoff teams. This was already a 5 or 6-win quality team last year. This year they are a 8-8 or 9-7 team easy, based on my belief that the defensive upgrades have been huge and they will be in the top 12 or so defenses in the league. Of course, how many wins all depends on how things break and who stays healthy. Also, don't forget Wanny's addition to the coaching staff.

Next April they will draft either QB/OT/WR depending on who steps up and who doesn't this season. Going into next season ALL the talk will about being a real playoff contender.

I was going to reply to the OP but you said everything I would have said. Thanks for the work. Lol

  8. KELSAY

    1. They extended Jauron and kept him when they shouldnt have

    2. They drafted Maybin, thats bad enough

    3. They didnt cut McCargo after they couldt trade him, and they let him play out his contract for another 2 years

    4. Corner was not a mistake. He was a decent 4th round pick.

    5. They started Edwards last year.

I'll give you Kelsey for the fact that he has been a dissapoint to say the least hut he is a captain and plays average. Not worth his money but average to say the least. I do agree with you though.

    1. They extended Dick at the same point when they were 5-1 and even professional sports media outlets had us rated very highly in tuier rankings. Edwards was looking like a true starter. We were not only calling for playoffs at that point, we were planning out our home playoff tailgate parties. For the first time in a very long time it felt like it was all going to end. And by firing Dick it was proof we made a mistake.

    2. Maybin was a mistake and another bust of a player from a terrible regime of Dick and Marv. Unfortunately for you, you can't claim it was so horrible as Maybin was still projected to be a 1st rounder. One can argue that we didn't pick up another player but at the time Maybin was looked at as a very raw talent that might be dominant as a pass rusher in the league by many professional media outlets. Regardless what we all thought of him, the pros saw something different.

    3. McCargo was another bust of a 1st rounder however he was something the team needed at the time. A big man in the middle of the line. He didn't work out, we tried to get rid of him and couldn't. They should have just cut him and ate thier losses your right. Unfortunately we were so banged up in the Dick years that we needed all the players we could get. 2 times we led the league with players on IR. I'll give you this one but with an asterisk.

    4. Corner wasn't half bad but he wasn't even average. I'll give you another one but only admitting Corner was average.

    5. What else were they gonna do. At one point Cinco led the team to a 5-1 record and looked lime he would be the next franchise QB of the team regardless of what you claim you knew about him from the start. The fact is he started off looking really good, was getting praise around the league as a legitamate starter.

The thing is, with almost all these points you were so quick to judge they stem back to one key thing. Dick Fu&?ing Jauron!!! He's not here anymore. We have a new coach and GM that is now given the task to eliminate all the horrible decisions from the last regime and the ones before that in Mularkey. The past 2 coaching positions were held by probably two of the worst head coaches in the history of our franchise and the horrible play showed that. Jauron showed at times that if he could just get a healthy squad on the field maybe he could get it done but never succeeded. I don't blame the org for being proactive and signing him long term at the time and I don't scould them for getting rid of him either. If anything it shows the "Ralph is cheap crowd" they are wrong about Ralph. He was willing to pay a decent contract to a still unknown coach with potential upside and were afraid to fire his @ss when they realized it was a mistake. Trent was given the chance by Gailey based on the fact that Dick was a horrible coach and may e he didn't know what he was doing and Trents 5-1 start a few seasons ago. What else was he gonna do? If he didnt play Trent and see for himself and cut him and Trent went on the Oakland or the Jags or some other team and succeeded you would have been burning Gailey for doing his due diligence for making sure himself.

For the first time in years they REALLY addressed thier needs in the offseason. Yes we needed OLmen and some could argue QB but last year Fitz threw for 3k yards and 24 TDs in only 13 starts and as bad as some say our OL is/was they are basically the same group that got better as time went on last year and didn't get Fitz killed either. The fact is we were very poor (last in the league) in run D and second last in the league in D in general. We beefed up at almost every position on D regardless of need or not. Dareus was not only projected as the best DL in the draft he was a possible 1st pick overall. Williams was not only needed because McGee can't stay healthy he was also slotted where we drafted him. Shephard was another projected in rounds 2-3 and was another need for our LB core and lack of run D. We let go of 2 players that were underachieving for the past few years with Poz and Whitner and replaced them with better versions of them with the draft pick of Searcy and pick up of Barnett. We also added depth with Morrison and realized last year of our lack of pass rush when we picked up Merriman who islf he stays healthy it's clearly obviosly after a few preseason performances he's at least looking similar to his Lights Out performances with San Diego. We also drafted guys last year that needed to become healthy and progress and it's looked like it has worked out so far as Carrington has been a beast this offseason, Batten has played extremely well just like they predicted last year. Troupe is not only playing with a club he is at least average and a solid backup at a very strong position for us now after the resigning of Williams and rookie monster Dareus. This coaching staff has gotten much bigger on D over the past 2 years and most of us knew that Dickies "small, fast, high motor) guys were not real NFL starters.

For once in the past 10 years were getting it right. I know your a seasoned vet on this board and as a Bills fan but if you can't see some of these things and only look at the bad of rhe past of the organization then maybe you should turn in your retirement papers. It's times like this to be optomistic about the positive changes.

  9. I agree that we could be 4-0 although it's the way we think (well, the way I think) every year. You exactly right the way you say it though. It will all come down to the first game. If we take out the Chiefs away from home we SHOULD beat the Raiders at hone and with a strong showing in our first two games and high on our start, this years game against the Pats should be our best shot in a long time. Of course things never go right (like a McKelvin fumble) for us in those games we still could have some serious momentum going into this game. I like our chances with our beefed up run D and pass rushers with Merriman (IF Healthy) and Carrington/Kelsey/Moats/Batten/Coleman. It's our best shot in years IMO and I like it. Of course if we beat them we should have no troubles with a Dalton led Bengles team. Philly is another story but for all we know Vick is injured by then or he can't do anything against our fast OLBs and pocket crumbling front 4.

    Go BILLS!!!

  10. I find it funny he said he was more comfortable his first few years vs last year. That's probably because he played more than half his first few years in his recliner on Sundays. He couldn't stay healthy at all. It was not a suprise he couldn't cover. We knew that before last season. He will be exploited this season out of the backfield trying to cover RBs. He will always get a ton of tackles, that's what he is but they will always be 5+ yards downfield. He made one good play the other night with that goal line stuff. Other than that, any okay he made was downfield just like he was here. He got exploited the very first play of the game against Chandler and then against Freddy. Way to go Poz, you got your dream paycheck. Now you can play half your games on the couch with the Jags too.

  11. Freddy is GOOD!!! That's about it. I love the guy and was a firm believer in starting him over Lynch and believe now he should start over CJ at least until CJ gets to the next level but that in no way makes me feel he deserves a new contract. What he's done is nothing but average at best (numbers wise) and for him to demand more respect or more money after a few good seasons is rediculous. He signed an extension a few years ago for a contract that should have brought him to retirement. He'll be over 32 when this contract is over and if you can find me a single RB that is a number 1 and produces like a true number 1 at 32 in recent history of the league I'll buy you a lunch. The fact is he is lucky to have even recieved a shot in the league and probably only did because Marv went to the same college as he did. Either way, he signed his contract after a year where he was given more freedom to work his magic and if he doesnt like it he can only blame himself and his agent for not asking for more. He is no where near as important to this team as Williams is. No where near as good at being a RB as Williams is a DT. If either were to leave this team it could be devastating but with CJ, White and Hall I'd feel more comfortable if he was let go vs Williams.

And I don't think race has anything to do with it.

  12. Chris Carter and Steve Largeant? Weren't both players cut by the teams that drafted them only to be some of the best WRs of all time?

After a quick google on both players they were both selected in the 4th round. Where Largent was drafted by the Oilers and was cut only to be picked up by Seattle where he retired as the most successful WR of all time. I'd still say that counts. Carter on the other hand was cut by Buddy Ryans Eagles after off the field issues, being picked up by Minnesota to retire as arguably one of the top 5 WRs of all time.

Since I thought of them I feel they should be included into that conversation. While neither were 1st rounders, they were cut by the teams that drafted them only to be 2 of the greatest of all time.

  13. OCinBuff has it right. As much as anyone can easily come out and say the Jags didn't have thier RB and Pass rushers we didn't have Merriman, Roscoe, Jones or Roosevelt. And we also split time with the LTs. So if we both had our starting teams and the same LT playing the entire game like in the first quarter then maybe we win all the same. We also got boned by the refs on that TD drive where they got a bogus first down on 3rd from Florence barely touching thief WR. They still had thier starting line and we had some really good pressure without Light Out. We still stopped tuier 2nd string RB who is no slouch. And we only played thier starters until the half while they played thiers into the 3rd quarter.

We got blown up against Denver and laid a very bad egg that game but I font see Chicago as hopeless as some thought. The run D was good in that game and you can't argue that the pass rush wasn't amazing on all levels of play. Regardless if they had in thier 1st, 2nd or 3rd stringers in all of our guys overpowered them all game.

Overall I'm happy so far with the play in preseason. Fitz, Stevie, Jackson all showed they can do it against a legitimate defense. The Dline has showed massive improvement stopping the run from last year and thier pass rush/pressures have been greatly improved as well. The LBs were looked at as the biggest weakness of the team potentially and they have showed up so far. When Merriman plays he's dominant, Davis looks more than adequate, Barnett looks better than Poz, Kelsey seems to have gotten more reliable and not as much of a weakness, Moats can play all positions, Coleman and Batten have shown flashes that they belong on the field and give us hope that Nix and Gailey knew what they were doing by not drafting more LBs or picking more up in FA, Morrison will probably start or give plenty of backup help to the inside and we still haven't seen more than 2 minutes of Shephard. Overall I'm pleased with the unit and think they won't be killing us as much as last year.

I think our Defense will be around the 15th best/worst in the league across the board and our offense will be right where it was last year but will get more shots to be on the field because our Defense will force more punts.

    My .02

  14. I'd say your assesments are right not. I'd add Dotson to that list. He is looking strong like Heard. Although I wuldnt be suprised if both were cuts. It's hard to say it after only one good game and week of practice but I'd also add Easley to the list.

  15. Parrish

    McGee

    Sp. Johnson

    Scott

I think Parrish makes most in that list so that should make him first to go. Especially given his lack of a finishe season w/o injury in the past. After that it goes down the line to Mcgee because he's older than dirt, and can't stay healthy either. I hope Johnson stays because he's looked like a beast this preseason a d Scott is just forgettable. I'd lobe to see Kelsey on this list at #1 I don't think it's gonna happen.

  16. IMO Thigpen would play pretty good with our starters. His throws are off but it might just be a timing thing from what he's not used to. Different recievers running different routes and at different speeds. If he was the starter he would be fine. That doesn't mean I want him in at all. Fitz is a better QB and knows this offense.

  17. I actually think Roscoe is odd man out.... Even though he looked good last year before the injury.... He is very small and was injured last year.. Isnt he hurt again? I like roscoe but I think the upside of Aiken and namaan puts him out

This. There's multiple reasons why Roscoe could be the odd man out.

1st and everyone favorite escuse is it's a cost cutting move. Roscoe is the highest paid WR on the team isn't he?

2nd, for being paid as much as he is, only to be injured every single season he's ever played doesn't look good for him.

3rd, he isn't one of Gailey or Nixs guys and we are obviously cleaning house on old items that are collecting dusts in the shelves.

4th, he is 170lbs soaken wet and under 6'0" and doesn't fit what Chan is trying to do on offense and with the rest if the team and that's build a big group of MEN, not high school sized boys that can run fast.

I think he's out for the money reason alone. If he could stay on the field I would think differently, but he can stay healthy. He went out last season and hasn't been able to get on the field all preseason. Gailey might be questioning if he will ever be able to do it consistantly. And the fact is that he's getting old too. Things will only get worse for his health.

  18. Maybe they aren't actually enamored with smith as a QB in an official sense. Though he might be listed there on gameday, maybe between the roster and ps they want 3 real qbs plus smith

I was kinda thinking this. I don't think they are as comfortable with Smith throwing the ball as they thought they would be when they picked him up.

  19. I commend those putting out the whole roster and I really shouldnt be picking at those who are doing it....

I just dont see the reason for keeping Wang, Howard, and Wrotto.....those guys have SHOWN NOTHING and you would hope in their second years there would be some improvement....they get beat so bad so consistantly that I dont even want them on this team...Hairston came out last night and showed what a real offensive linemen is supposed to look like and he has been HURT

This is not going to be a tough year to get rid of guys to get tot he needed amount...as a matter of fact we need to pick up a couple of guys....offensive linemen mostly

and i dont see more then 2 TE's because we dont run 2 TE sets

    Agree 100%

Especially on your take on Hairston. I've been a firm believer that he will be starting by the end of the season. If he doesn't win a job outright he will be subbed in somewhere (LT or RT) during the season as our guys get nicked up. Going into the offseason he will be projected starter at one of those spots and we won't be crying for a stud in the first or 2nd round at that spot. I still see us taking a tackle in the first 2 rounds and it will be opposite Hairston. If he looks like a good LT then well go with a RT in the 2nd, if he looks good at RT then we will pick a LT in the first. That's unless Fitz looks horrible and we trade our entire draft for the number 1 pick to draft Luck but I don't see that happening.
