I don’t think he becomes an issue. But we’ve seen players cut that I never thought would be cut. Beasley for example has been Joshs safety blanket for 3 years now. Joshs contract is no different than Mahomes in that now they are going to have to make really tough decisions as to who to keep and who to let go. You can’t continue to pay everyone too money for their positions and have a 40+ million dollar QB eating away at a huge chunk of your cap space. im actually shocked that we made the room for Miller. Granted we needed it, but could have filled just about every other hike we had for that money. But the pressure is on. They are in win now mode. And they have failed miserably at the DE position since they’ve been here. Maybe Rousseau makes a jump. He’s definitely shown promise. But he’s hardly a lock for our future at this point.

You likely would get an instant starter in the 2nd round as well at CB. the argument is you get a difference maker on offense with 25 and likely don’t after that. Unless you trade back for extra picks and still manage to get Dotson in the late first or early 2nd. But honestly, I don’t see the Chiefs passing on Dotson now with pick 28 and 30. They need to replace Hill and Dotson instantly does that. Not saying he’s going to be as good as Hill. But he fills that role for them. He is incredibly fast, great hands, and great route runner. Possibly the best in the class. Can play inside or out depending on the situation. the argument that you answered for, is of what if we be of our starting WRs gets injured. We’re screwed. If Diggs goes down we’re screwed. But Dotson brings that type of play. Drop off wouldn’t be nearly as much as if we had someone like McKenzie filling that role. then you have to factor in the possibility that Diggs will be gone soon. Or even Davis as he may want too much in his 2nd contract. then you have to figure the rotation of WRs in this offense. There was plenty of times last year that backups were in on key plays. A player like Dotson helps that. Or the ability to role with 4-5 WRs and not have a drop off anywhere in the WR room. The biggest thing you have to figure is what I believe most. The fact that Beane has said we need more speed at the position. We don’t have a WR that can blow the doors off a CB and take it to the house. Probably why we now have McKenzie and Crowder instead of Beasley as well. But we still need that home run threat in the WR room. I believe with all the above reasons, and mostly this one, we will take the best WR with our first round pick. Unless a stud is there at CB that we didn’t expect. Because you can still get fast WRs in the mid rounds of the draft.

I think where everyone is confusing me with wanting a stud RB is they think I’m advocating for resigning that player to a 2nd contract. I am not. Other positions deserve 2nd contracts at high numbers. RBs don’t. Unless your getting a friendly deal it doesn’t make it worth it. You are getting the best out of your RB likely in the 2-5th year. While they are young. Healthy. Fresh.

The bolded is 100% exactly why you draft a young stud at RB and ride him out the 4-5 years and then let him walk before his big money deal. I’m not saying we should ever pay a RB top end RB money. That’s why I want to draft the best possible one we can find and abuse him while he’s young and healthy. Ditch him after his first contract, before he becomes an injury risk, before he wants big money. Rinse/repeat. Bell was a head case and ruined his own career. Nobody is saying they he wasn’t good. He was. He also thought he was better than he was. Must have been hanging out with AB too much while In Pittsburgh. But he makes my point for this argument. I never would have paid Bell a big contract. I would have let him walk. I don’t think the Saints are too concerned about what Kamara is making. He’s a true game changer. Runs, catches, blocks. If anything they are only upset about the deal because they now have no QB to offset that. Once they lost Brees, all defenses needed to do was key on Kamara and shut their entire offense down. Without the QB a RB is useless. As we’ve seen many years with McGahee, Henry, Lynch, Spiller, Jackson, etc. id imagine the Panthers wished they never did that deal only because CMC is constantly injured. Another reason to not sign them to high paid contracts. But for a few years, CMC was easily one of the best players in all of football before the injury bug hit him. Another point why you draft a young stud, ride him out until he breaks down. let him walk in his 2nd contract. Rinse/repeat. Packers wouldn’t have been able to keep Adams regardless of Jones contract. They are now handcuffed by Rodgers. Who claimed he wanted off the team because they tried to replace him instead of giving him weapons. Then he signed for a 50m/year contract. Proving it was all about money for him. Because any idiot could see there was zero chance of signing a QB to 50m and still think you could sign the best WR in football to a 30m/year contract. Rodgers ruined himself and now he will suffer in an offense with zero WRs. I’m sure they will draft a few but it will take them too long to get up to speed for him to have a legitimate year this year. I’m probably wrong in this. You don’t become the leagues MVP over and over only to suck. But I don’t believe he will be nearly as good going forward now. Taylor didn’t lose in the playoffs because of anything he did. He lost in the playoffs because his QB was aweful. Everyone knows Wentz is garbage. Well, everyone except Frank Reich last off season. Last year was their year however. I expect them to be better this season with Ryan. But so is just about every other team in the AFC. They will content for the division but might not make the playoffs. Barkley’s contract is low compared to the highest paid players on 2nd year deals. It’s half of what the top 5 are being paid. I wouldn’t recommend resigning him to a 2nd contract either. Rinse/ Repeat. Zeke has never been that good imo. He’s under Jerry’s world though. Jones is an idiot. I wouldn’t have paid Dak 40m a year either. all this back and forth is all fine. But when it all comes down to it. None of them these RBs right now, have a player like Josh Allen as their QB. Have the offense that this team runs. Kamara was the closest you’ll see when they had Brees. As I pointed without a QB he will be nothing. But we have the QB. We have the best QB in the league. We have the offense that wants to roll other teams by 30. None of the arguments for any other back makes any guarantees because they aren’t in this offense. So yes. I want a young stud RB. I don’t think we should take one at 25 but won’t be mad if we did. Because I believe we really need one. And I don’t recommend paying that RB no matter how good he is, a 2nd contact. Because they have short life spans. Because they break down. Because they don’t make sense to pay a RB that kind of money. Which is why I want the best one we can get, early, and use them for 5 years at a very low cost. I think Von will play more than the rest of the line. And defiantly more than guys like Hughes and Addison did last year. But I do expect somewhat of a rotation until playoff time.

How’s that working for Tyreek Hill right now?

I just can’t seem to stop drafting Dotson and Hall. Dotson is a no brainer. Especially with a trade down like I did here. Picked up 45, 76, and 100 for 25. Elam and McDuffie we’re still available. I was hoping I was going to be able to swing Gordon with 57. Unfortunately it didn’t work out. again traded back into the mid 2nd round when I saw Hall dropping and Rhyan still available. Ended up giving up this years pick at 130 and next years 1st and 2nd. Ended up with sure starters at RB and RG though. also able to pick up our future MLB in Walker. I don’t watch lots of college ball but seeing him in highlights, he’s the anti Edmunds. Always aggressive getting to the ball carrier. Always ready for contact. It’s not a terrible idea if you don’t think Tre will be back to normal for a while. But if he’s back to normal sooner than later, you are wasting a pick and sitting someone the majority of the time when they should be on the field. A 2nd round pick should see considerable time throughout the season. Could probably take a OL or WR at 2-3 and still get your stud CB in the first and be better off.

I knew Josh was the QB I wanted before the draft. The only other QB I had any interest in, was Mayfield. Which I think got a crap deal in Cleveland. His coaching has been terrible. Story of Cleveland’s life. With all that said, the Minnesota game is what sealed it for me that he was going to be special. Not just the hurdle. But the scramble and dive to the corner of the end zone. At that point you could just see that he would do anything to win. Anything to carry the team on his back. And he hasn’t disappointed. I actually feel bad for him that he’s been let down by his defense at times and coaching at times. Josh will go down as one of the best to ever play this game when all is said and done.

My most recent one. Like this one a lot. Traded pick 25 with the Colts for 42, 73, 159. And then traded back into the first when I saw Hall was still there. Ended up trading with Falcons at 45 who traded with the Ravens. Ended up giving up 2023s 2nd and 3rd, and this years pick at 89. managed to get Dotson, Hall, Gordon, Metchie, Hayes, which I think are all starting quality players right away. Munford, Jones, and Jobe are all possible backups right away. With potential for the future. Parham is a project, and Jones Jr could potentially make a the cut as a return man/ST gunner in a year or 2. 42. Jahan Dotson WR Penn State 45. Breece Hall RB Iowa State 57. And it will get what it wants. As well as the owners pushing for a higher cap. Again, inflation rules everything in the world right now. Prices aren’t going down or staying where they are at in any profession.

Highest paid players at positions of skill are sky high. Inflation brought us that. Inflation and greed. I don’t expect ANY pay scale to decrease for any single position in the league moving forward at this point. There may be less high paid players at the RB position only because teams can’t find stud RBs or go with RBBC because they can’t afford to sign high profile RBs along with their 40m+ QBs, 20m+ WRs, 20m+ DEs. But I’d imagine if you asked the Colts, Saints, Titans how they feel about their RBs they wouldn’t trade them for some scrub that needs a backup because they can’t do it all. I think you could use the same analogy with how McDermott and Beane have missed on the DL since they got here. They’ve had to overpay for average at best vets at the DL, draft multiple 1st and 2nd round picks. And still had to use a rotation because they couldn’t get the production out of their intended starters. They ended up spending the same amount on Butler, Addison, Hughes as it took to sign a true pass rusher like Miller. I guarantee, now that we have someone like Von, we don’t see nearly as much of a rotation.

That’s correct. But I have a feeling Beane and McDermott have an idea. Or they would have picked up a vet CB already. Even if they were to grab one in rounds 1-3.

That’s exactly why you draft one in the first round. If you take a WR or OL it could take a few years for them to become accustomed to the NFL. Someone like Gabe Davis who takes 2-3 years to breakout. Still having the ability to sign him to his 2nd contract on a reasonable deal. Where as the RB position usually gets put in right away and produces right away (the good ones anyway). And you ride out their good years while you can get them. And you get an extra year with a 5th year option. Everyone understands and agrees that you almost never sign a RB to their 2nd contract. Which is why you take the best one you can get from the start. Or else you have someone like Singletary or Moss underperforming for your offense until you rinse/repeat.

Dont think we would know until the offer sheet is submitted. But pretty sure we will get to see exactly what the offer is. And of course be able to match it. probably should have used the better RFA tag on him. But I’m guessing Beane was assuming for the 3-4m they would have to spend on that, they could get an easy upgrade to replace him. Which makes me believe they don’t value him as much as most of us fans do.

I like Cook, Rachaad White, and Ford for 3-4th round picks if we haven’t addressed it before that. I like Badie in 4-5. And then just go with speed and go with Strong Jr. or Price anywhere in, or after the 5th round.

Because you get that one extra year out of him at a reasonable price. Hell, you could even franchise tag him for a reasonable price for a year or 2. RBs get up to speed in the nfl quicker than almost any position. Therefore you are getting them at their primes almost on their rookie deals. The life expectancy of a RB in the league is lowest of every position. More of a reason to take a young rookie and ride him out. Rinse/repeat.

I don’t think Walker lasts that long but he might. Many have him as the best or 2nd best back in the draft. I personally don’t see it. But could do worse. Except we were the best defense in the league last year and only really lost Wallace, who everyone complains about anyway. Upgraded at every spot on the DL. Jackson comes in to play right away. And you still draft a CB in the 2-3rd round to come in as well. Probably pick up a vet before the draft or at June 1st cuts also. There’s plenty of vets out there now just waiting for the draft to happen to get scooped up.

Wouldn’t hate it Not Sure Chanel goes that high. Probably could have had Asamoah or Beavers there. Asamoah seems a bit small for MLB but they say his speed and sideline to sideline is impressive. Beavers seems like the beast MLB we need and the Bills have met with him as well.

This is exactly the reason we should be thinking WR in the first round btw. Going with Williams, Olave, or Dotson would help fill that loss if we were to lose Diggs. All of them could be available at 25. Dotson being the most likely.

Just calling it like I see it. I don’t want it to happen. Like I said, I hope Diggs retires a Bill. He’s been nothing but great in every way since coming here. But if he wants to be paid what the top WRs in the league are making, then I don’t see how it’s possible to keep him. Not with Allen making 40+ a year. Miller, White, Dawkins, And Oliver are not making it easier either.

I bet the Colts are wishing they took Taylor in the 1st round so they could get him with the 5th year option instead of having the decision of letting him walk or signing him to a contract worth more than $16m a year like McCaffrey is going to make. Or Elliot or Kamara making more than $15m.

He’s probably going to be gone at the end of this season. Hopefully after we hoist them Lombardi trophy. But you could see a decent extension at the end of his deal with guaranteed money. This way it doesn’t take effect until his current contract is up. At the same time it buys a little time for the cap to go up. Which I’m 100% sure the owners will be pushing for. The Jerry Joneses of the NFL find it unfair that they are handcuffed by the same cap issues as the poorest teams. Just like everything else in society today, inflation is making things crazy. I completely believe the cap numbers will increase significantly in the near future.
