  1. You got blasted for taking a fourth round pick in the second round, and deservedly so. I'm all for drafting Sidbury - he was nasty at Richmond - but anyone taking him on the first day is on drugs. If it's all the same to you, why don't we not give up valuable draft picks to draft a position of non-need (i.e. DT)? There are way too many holes to fill before we start trading up for a DT.
  2. How many times can you post this?? This is the third time I've seen you post it. "Everyone is going to continue to ignore the issue." What issue? That the Bills handles this situation poorly in the past in your opinion? I'm not sure what they can do about it at this point anyhow. Overpay him? Who's to say that if they "took care of this" he wouldn't have held out again? He thinks he should be the highest paid LT after giving up 11.5 sacks last year? Imagine if he had come in and only gave up two or three all season? Are you saying he'd be set earning $5M/year? And do you think one year of playing LT is sufficient to re-work a 5-year contract, with three years remaining? Peters didn't get "stiffed;" Schobel got his contract re-worked because he had proven more. Peters had proven very little, aside from one good year at LT (after a solid year at RT). Get over it.
  3. There isn't a chance in hell he takes an incentive-laden contract. Are you on another planet? When was the last time a marquee player took a discounted salary and agreed to contract incentives?? Not good enough. I'm demanding two firsts and a fourth for Peters and our second. I bet we could take those two first round picks and get Julius Peppers. Tell me that wouldn't be worth it??? What is your problem here? Peters signed a five year deal. With three years left he decided to hold out on his team and hurt said team by being in terrible shape. Now, with two years left on his deal he is going to try the same strategy, after leading the league in sacks given up by a LT? Are you serious? And he wants to be the highest paid LT? This is a joke, right? It's not like he came in after his holdout in any kind of shape. I have no interest in keeping this guy at anywhere near his price. Here's $8M/year. Don't like it? Don't show up again. Like someone said, offer expires 4/1/09. Otherwise let's shop him and see what we can get. I remember Langston Walker played pretty well week 1 at LT. I also know Matt Light - who is a pretty good LT for the Patriots - makes $3.9M/year. I don't care what the economy is like, Peters is not worth anywhere near what he's asking and has proven in the past he's not a "team first" guy. Time to shop him.
  4. I've been saying that for weeks now, it hasn't gotten me any love...
  5. Could you just change your avatar? It's so disturbing...
  6. Congratulations - that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard on this board. If you want a 234 lb. DE in your 4-3 good luck, let me know how that works.
  7. What a horrid "article". TO specifically said it wasn't "his department" and now he's causing trouble? What a scam. It's things like these that make me believe at least some of TO's image is media-created.
  8. The bottom line is we need a DE. Does anybody besides KnockOut30 think Maybin is a legit 4-3 DE? My guess is 'no'. The scouts are saying that E. Brown might be better suited, like Maybin, to be a 3-4 OLB, which worries me. He'll probably be gone by #11 anyway. Orakpo certainly is, and Robert Ayers not only ran a 4.8 40 (which wouldn't necessarily disqualify him) but had three sacks last year. We can definitely get Johnson later in the 1st round and stockpile picks, so why not trade down, grab this guy (he is unquestionably a 4-3 DE with tremendous upside and considerably better production than an Ayers) maybe get another 1st round pick (if Philly will trade with us, which is questionable) and get maybe a Jared Cook in the second round? This is all speculation, of course - if we don't sign a June or Keiaho to play OLB and a Simmons or Goff to play LG this all goes out the window. I'm still holding out hope we can trade for Julius Peppers, of course...
  9. You guys are ignoring the worst part of this plan - it uses up our first round pick without addressing DE, TE, or G.
  10. Doubt it. He would probably already have a deal if he hadn't sulked and held out with 3 years remaining on his contract.
  11. Terrible, terrible idea. Someone from Philly on today's chat wrap suggested Philly give both first rounders for Peters and our 2nd rounder. If we could get that and maybe a second day pick (I know I'm being greedy, but look at the Roy Williams trade from last year) I might do it; it would give us three picks in the first round. My only concern is that we are back in the hunt for a legitimate LT. I'm not sure what Peters wants (it can't be $100M), but if it's less than the Dockery deal I might do it. We all know he has talent...even if he has proven to be a crummy teammate.
  12. That's like saying "next time you see a DE lift 225 lbs. off his chest before sacking the QB let me know." You don't, but you still have him do the bench. Or when was the last time a DE ran 5 yards up, 5 yards back, 5 yards right, 5 yards back, and 5 yards up again before sacking the QB?? Or do you want to ignore the shuttle drill too?? They're all measurements to be taken into consideration. I love how people who have never played football play Madden and suddenly think they're GM's.
  13. For the last time, my point was that just because a player falls, unlike what the mock drafter said, doesn't make him a steal, that's all. Him slipping has nothing to do with him being a bust. You missed my point, you will always miss my point, and now you've just got diarrhea of the mouth. The Leaf argument was to point out that your argument made no sense - I wasn't saying Kelsay and Maybin were the same, I was making this thing called a parallel. Get it now? Didn't think so.
  14. Great point. Way to ignore what I said about "take it into consideration with other factors," rather than "it's completely irrelevant." What a naif...
  15. I never said, nor implied, that "every" player that falls is a bust, just that getting any player at #42 when he was projected to us at #11 shouldn't be considered a "steal" if he's still going to be a bust. You should get reading glasses or go back to school. I was making a simple comparison. Every time a potential QB bust is brought up they are compared to Ryan Leaf. Does that mean they think he is just like Ryan Leaf? No. Get a clue, dude.
  16. Okay then. So then this... was just to be argumentative??
  17. ??? http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nf...son-cover_N.htm
  18. Never listen to GM's before the draft. They intentionally confuse. I already did (hence the reference to http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009_2.php). Get a clue, dude.
  19. Trust me, you hit that floor a long, long time ago. My entire point was that if you don't think Maybin can fit, grabbing him in the second round isn't a "steal". If you like him then grab him at #11. Bill Polian says he likes him and yeah, he knows a thing or two about football, but have you ever heard of GM's blowing smoke before the draft?? Playing DE at 234 lbs. doesn't work in the NFL, and he clearly wasn't the same running at 249. So if he free-falls that doesn't necessarily make it a good pick. You've inferred all these other things by what I said for some reason. I can only infer that you, at best, aren't all that bright and at worst, are clinically retarded.
  20. Well done. That's a great variation on my screenname. Did you stay up all night thinking of that one? Again, you're missing the point, so this is the last time I'm going to explain this. I didn't say that all players who slip are bad players, I was simply making the point that just because a player slips doesn't mean he's a "steal" in a later round. If he sucks he still sucks, no matter when he was drafted. I'm sorry that you can't get that. You missed the point too. Read above. I think Maybin will be a huge bust as a 4-3 DE, and I'm not the only one (in fact, I don't know of a single sports writer who thinks he can play in a 4-3, Matt Williamson has said he "has his doubts," and Mel Kiper is saying he's in a basic "free-fall" after his combine performance). My point - as I have had to re-state now four times for you and your friend 'Hazed' - was that just because you free-fall doesn't mean you're a good pick in a later round like the guy at the Walter football website seems to think. "Considering some 2009 NFL mock drafts have the Bills taking Aaron Maybin at No. 11, this is a steal. I just think Maybin is going to slip on Draft Day because he really struggled to carry 249 pounds at the Combine. He even ran slower than Mitch King, for crying out loud. Teams may see Maybin as a project, given his small frame and the fact that he was a one-year wonder at Penn State. Regardless, the Bills will be thrilled to land him down here. The team finished with just 24 sacks on the year, so this is a position that really needs to be addressed. " - http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009_2.php Next time do your own research.
  21. Do you want him in Buffalo??
  22. Why do the 40 yard dash then? Just for fun? Or is it to be used as a tool for measuring speed, when other factors (college production, shuttle drill, cone drills, etc.) are taken into consideration? My relief that you are not the GM is trumped only by my relief that you are not a scout. You said the 40 is irrelevant for DE's. You can have the ones that don't do well in it then. I'll take the Freeneys and Orakpos of the world. And before you even start, I would have taken Suggs anyway. He was a monster in college. People who only consider the 40 are stupid. People who think it's irrelevant are even worse.
  23. Hell, not even replacing poor playing with mediocrity. Ryan Denney started 11 games last year and had four sacks. Edwards had five. Why you think bringing in a guy with such little upside who is turning 30 this year is a good idea???
  24. I don't want a tweener. Unless he's Jason Taylor he probably won't be terrorizing QB's from the DE position if he's more suited to play LB. And no, I haven't. What I was saying is that if he is a slow, lumbering TE and he, in fact, isn't much of a blocker, then he is completely ineffective. If he gets some speed and can get open then obviously that's not the case. I'm afraid the former is more likely though...
  25. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nfl/2002draft/des/dwightfreeney.htm You know that you can use the 40 yard dash to extrapolate quickness and speed even if they don't run a full 40 yards on most plays...right? And you also know that it is only one indicator, right? So that when a guy comes in with twenty-four sacks in a season and runs a 4.8 (Terrell Suggs) you know the guy can still play, but when a guy comes in with three and runs a 4.8 (Robert Ayers) you might want to avoid the guy. This makes sense to you...right?? You keep your slow, lumbering Kelsay-esque DE's. I'll take my chances with guys like Dwight Freeney. Exactly, just three sacks in a full season against college talent. Less than half of what Chris Kelsay had his final season. I don't want anything to do with that guy. So we replace poor playing with mediocrity? That's the spirit.
