You sound like I did the other night. I thought it was from the spine surgery; now I think it may just be a by-product of living in Greater Boston...

Poor-to-adequate run blocking is not acceptable for an "elite" tackle! And we all saw how many sacks he gave up. This whole conversation is a joke. Peters is not "elite" by any means. Athleticism means nothing if you can't do your job, ask Vernon Gholston. I appreciate your passion, I really do. But you are pulling everything from what other people think. You are picking and choosing your critiques to fit your opinion and aren't doing any of the leg work on your own. If you take away the pro bowls you've got very, very little ground to stand on with this argument.

Russ: Bills / Peters remain far apart

It just cracks me up that Peters was worth, what, $7M last year? And now, because of one Jake Long contract - the #1 OVERALL PICK mind you - he's now worth $11M to guys like Bill from NYC? Give me a break. If he was a force at LT then this would be a discussion. He wasn't. He skipped everything he could until the regular season, performed atrociously, and has the audacity to demand to be the highest paid tackle in the league. !@#$ him. He is not "elite" by any means. Get him out and bring in someone who wants to play and doesn't have his head in the clouds. Belichick wouldn't put up with this crap. -
How do we KNOW that, exactly? How do we KNOW he didn't just have a great season in '07? It happened to Derek Anderson. Why? You are more than willing to do the opposite after one season of solid play. You can't have it both ways. I love Peter King, but this list is irrelevant for two reasons. 1) It's from pre-2007. We're going into 2009. King was right; Peters had a great 2007 campaign. But the list is two years old and obsolete. 2) Look at the names on this list. Some of them are still blue chip players, but some of them aren't. Aaron Schobel is a great example. So is Matt Hasselbeck, Torry Holt, and Jason Taylor. Would you give any of them a blank check at this point of their careers? I wouldn't. I guarantee you if Peter King came up with an up to date list Peters wouldn't be anywhere near the top 100. That's great. But why do YOU feel so strongly about him? Have you scouted him? Is there something special about him that you've noticed? Or did you just hear about how great he was from other people? Most people don't watch the linemen, and since they don't have stats they just go off of what other people tell them. I'm pretty sure that's what's happening here. Like someone else said in another thread, everyone thought Mike Williams was doing a good job early on. That's the first thing you've said that makes any sense. But if we get another first rounder it's not out of the question to put Walker at LT and drafting say a Beatty from Connecticut to start right away at RT. Walker looked better than Peters did this season, and he's nowhere near your Peter King list.

Actually, he had tremendous talent. Just because that talent didn't pan out to a successful NFL career doesn't mean he didn't have the raw talent to begin with.

Top 10 Biggest 1st Round Draft Busts

Which one? Both Mike Williamses belong on the list. -
Wow, glad to see you believe in forgiveness. You must be Christian! There's no way he gets anywhere close to that much, but as someone said, it's just to keep creditors at bay. He could get an incentive laden-deal but more likely he gets $1M-1½M in base salary as a backup. He !@#$ed up, he knows it, and I hope he can get his life back in order finally.
-
By whom?? Is that why you think he's so great? Or are you an offensive line scout?? Why? So you're saying he knew he's stink up the joint if he sat out but chose to sit out anyway and not give a damn about how that affected his teammates? Are you familiar with Orlando Pace? He sat out like three pre-seasons in a row and always played at a top caliber level. Orlando Pace (a true top talent) Peters is not. Why? Does he have a long resumé of dominating DE's? Or did he just have one good year at LT and now expects to be paid considerably better than his colleagues?? He certainly stunk it up last year, what's to keep him from doing it again? He's word? He doesn't have T.O.'s workout mentality, that's for sure.

That's because there was no consensus #1 WR last year. Hardy wasn't the #1 on most boards I saw; generally it went back and forth between Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas with DeSean Jackson and Hardy right behind them. Pettigrew is the consensus #1 TE, and the last time a TE hasn't been drafted in the first round was 1999, so mark my words, he will be drafted in the first round. I can't imagine him sliding past Atlanta at #24.

I would. Lee Evans is more talented. Leodis McKelvin may be raw but is more talented. Stroud is on the wrong side of his career, but was more talented. Lynch has his best years in front of him and is more talented. It remains to be seen with the younger guys but I'll bet there are one or two more talented players on our roster. Not sure what the man-crush on Peters is all about. No, he's not. It would be right if he was a top caliber player last year but he wasn't. Pro bowls doesn't make you a good tackle; keeping your QB off the ground and getting your RB space to run does. He did neither last year. Not sure which games you were watching. Yeah, just pay him whatever he wants because he had a good season in '07. Thank God you aren't running the franchise. We'd never get out of salary cap hell.

I've heard Ryan Denney has been "bulking up" for years now. Chris Ellis showed NOTHING last year in limited action. We need a pass rusher in the worst way. If we are moving away from "high character" guys we could always go after the former Vikings Darrion Scott (http://www.nfl.com/players/darrionscott/profile?id=SCO231041) who lead his team in sacks...until he put a plastic bag over his kid's head, almost suffocating him. And you're right, we were tied for eighth in sacks in 2006. But that was with a 29-year old Aaron Schobel who put up a career best 14 sacks. Are you expecting this year's 32-year old version of him to put up similar numbers? If so, puff puff pass please... Me too, as long as E. Brown isn't there (which he wouldn't be).

Well the combination of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and verbage don't exactly suggest we're dealing with a criminal mastermind, so I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one... -

hell ya... but, we need to become aware.. we might have to buy this team ourselfs... we should make a "how much money would you be able to trow down'" THREAD Well, 1) it might help if you learned to spell "ourselves" and "throw" correctly, and 2) I'm not sure there's a correlation between how many threads you start a day and the likelihood of the Bills staying local. -

100%? They are the only team I've heard of that are more likely to move more than Buffalo: http://potencial.wordpress.com/2007/08/05/...didates-mar-19/ -

Minnesota is always in these talks. But here's an interesting article on the subject: http://www.forbes.com/2008/10/08/vikings-b...1008moving.html. An interesting point is that since RSW doesn't have any debt and consistently sells out there is less to worry about than a Jacksonville or a Minny. -
That is seriously the worst mock I've seen yet for so many reasons...

Que? Coffman ran a 4.85, just like Pettigrew. He is not a "speedburner" by any means. You might have him confused with Jared Cook or Shawn Nelson.

I don't know what I like better: your analysis of the Jason Peters situation (which is spot on) or your TSW drafting formula (which I also think, after seeing the posts since I joined about six weeks ago, is spot on).

I don't think a high caliber 30-year old guard will sign for the league minimum. But I like your thinking. Bring him in cheap and let him compete, but don't let it deter you from picking up more talent along the way. -

Yeah, don't stress over it. I saw the same article. It was pure speculation though. The Chiefs are a storied franchise that aren't going anywhere. One team you left off your list was the Rams. Their stadium lease expires in 2012 and there has been speculation of them returning to LA. The owner came out and said it wasn't true (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/05/20/...s-arent-moving/) but I'd still put them right up there with Jax and Buffalo (sadly) on the list. Again, as I said in another thread, the best chance for this to happen is to contact local politicians (Chuck Shumer, David Patterson, Bryon Brown, etc.). -
Thanks AD, you took the words out of my mouth. The point was, not only did he skip out on all of that but he turned in a terrible performance to boot. You can pretend like he didn't and call the sacks stat a "myth" if it makes you feel better, but the face is Peters sucked last year. Remember, sacks weren't an official stat until 1982, but getting to the quarterback was still important in the 60's and 70's.
