  1. Can somebody tell me about William Beatty from Connecticut? His measureables are impressive. From http://blackandgold.com/blogs/hagan714/89-...arm-length.html: William Beatty, Connecticut (6-6, 307), arm length: 34¾ inches Beatty does a great job getting out of his stance quickly and extending his long arms in pass protection. He showcases impressive hand placement on the outside and is consistently able to engage quickly and keep defensive ends off his body. Beatty possesses the coordination, foot speed and length to man the left tackle spot in the NFL. He would probably be there at #28. Would he not be a better pick than Oher who appears to have serious question marks? That would also allow us to take the best player available at #11. Has anyone actually seen this guy play?
  2. Magox, care to help out with this one? ... Peters signed a 5yr/$15M extension in '06. His bonus wasn't all that large so this isn't all that relevant, but the Bills will take a cap hit this year (I believe) in the amount pro-rated over this year and the same next. With bigger contracts it's easier to get stuck in salary cap hell this way.
  3. Not for salary cap purposes dude. I'm not sure you understand how the cap works. If it's already been paid and pro-rated, if you cut/trade him whatever money is pro-rated to that year is taken out of the cap, hence the term "[salary] cap hit." So if Parrish gets a 3yr/$12.31M deal (this is a little more difficult because the Bills are one of the few teams that has, as it's team's policy, not to disclose the details of player contracts) but it's loaded with guarantees - whether those are paid upfront or not - they cannot be recouped (except in extreme circumstances a la Michael Vick). So while 3yrs/$12.31 comes out to over $4M/yr, much of that is a "sunk cost" and shouldn't even be taken into consideration. For what it's worth, his contract status is this apparently: 3 years remaining (UFA in 2012); owed $3.05 million in base salaries, $1.5 million in signing bonuses and $1.5 million in roster bonuses. http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2009/...r-wr-return-man I'm not sure what that says to you, but it says to me at a maximum he will earn $2.017M/year throughout the end of his contract. By your own numbers (you HAVE to exclude 2008 since it's already passed and is therefore irrelevant), it's only $2.167M/yr, and that's if the bonuses are not guaranteed - if they are, the number is far lower. I'm not sure why this is even really an issue though. He's not killing our cap space, he's not preventing us from signing other players, and whether it's $1.5M or $3M I'm not sure how that is really relevant. This isn't the Jason Peters situation.
  4. So you want to have your starting to corners doing 100% of the return duties? Why, so you can dump Parrish for a 4th rounder?? Great call. Name another team that has a full time starter doing the return duties. Then ask the '98 Giants how that worked out for them. And actually, yeah, I believe his salary is $1.5M this year, tough guy. Bonuses and guarantees don't qualify, and his 3yr/$12.31M contract extension was packed with them. So dumping him doesn't save you $3M like the masses on this board would have you believe.
  5. Listen, you guys are missing the big point. Can Jackson field a punt here and there when asked? Of course. But Jackson is 28. Parrish is 26. Like RB's, PR's die early. When was the last time you saw a guy returning punts consistently at 30? There's a reason for it. You're creating holes where you don't need to. Parrish isn't complaining about his contract. He's one of the beset returners to ever play the game and you want to ship him out for a 4th rounder because Fred Jackson can return punts once McKelvin gets injured doing it? With McGee returning kicks and McKelvin returning punts AND kicks, you are begging for an injury in your secondary. But what do I know...
  6. wtf does Allen Wilson know? He had us taking Malcolm Kelly last year at #11.
  7. Yeah, I saw that. But to insinuate Fred Jackson is a viable replacement for Parrish at PR is insane. Fred Jackson is not the athlete Parrish is, he doesn't have the quickness or flat out speed. And to state his YPR is to elude otherwise and, in fact, wrong.
  8. They very rarely do. Ignore the moron, you'll save yourself some grief.
  9. Ever heard of a thing called "sample size," as in Fred Jackson's sample size of seven returned punts last season doesn't mean sh-- concerning his average? Yeah, thanks for playing. If Fred Jackson maintained that average over an entire season of returning I'd pay him myself.
  10. Not to be a dick, but it takes about 10 seconds to Google it. He was a third round pick. But I agree with your second part. I wouldn't at all be opposed to bringing him back for depth. His options can't be that widespread at this point, and he can handle the LT spot in a pinch. He's only 31 and the slightest breeze sends him into anaphalactic shock, but if D. Bell is still only doing 10 reps on the bench we might want to bring him back at the vet. minimum contract for depth.
  11. It was posted already but no worries. I can't imagine why they'd take a 1, 4, and 6 over a 1 and 3. You can always trade down from a 3 to a 4 and 6, the opposite can't be true. I'm hoping, like the "blown" Dockery trade, that more details come out that don't make me want to kill myself... Yeah, until he gets injured. Then we'll go from having the best punt returner in the world to...Fred Jackson. Great. Parrish's salary is well below $2M this year, tough guy...
  12. You can probably get a #81 Hardy jersey pretty cheap with Owens grabbing the number. Maybe Hitler will sell you his.
  13. No argument there. I was going to dissect his post but I decided to just close my eyes and hope it wasn't there when I came back. Much less frustrating that way, little aftermath.
  14. Who the f- is Jefferson, and why are we trading for him???
  15. Jackson won't hold out. He's an RFA. My understand is that he gets seriously dicked over if he holds out. Once the rookie contracts are settled I would like to see him get a bonus, but a long-term deal? Seeing that we could turn our #2RB into a first rounder next year? (Still waiting on confirmation of that by TG, but he's been a bit busy lately) I wouldn't sign him to a long term contract, not if that's the case. Someone said it yesterday, that people on this board treat Jackson like he's the second coming of Walter Payton and it's true.
  16. 1) Actually you can delete threads once they have been responded to. I did it last week. 2) I think it's a pretty valid point. I think we've got a great WR corps - one of the best in the NFL, perhaps - with legit current threats (Evans, Owens), future talent (Johnson, Hardy), solid blockers and guys who can move the chains (Reed), and even a gimmicky threat (Parrish). I find it funny that everyone is so high on Johnson but so down on Hardy even though they had almost the exact same production last season. I know Hardy had higher expectations as a second round pick but give the man a chance. I hope he and Stevie can learn a lot this year, make plays when given the opportunity, and make their mark in 2010.
  17. Excellent point. I tried to make that point a few days ago to no avail. Clements is at least playing at a high level (although certainly not at an 8yr/$80M level). Think about some of the other guys we've let go, besides Clements: Jonas Jennings, Peerless Price, Antonie Winfield. Each time it was the end of the world. The only one I really didn't want to let go was Pat Williams, and I think that's a mistake we are still regretting. Especially because the money difference was so small.
  18. Seriously??? http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=87178
  19. Can I be the first one to suggest a completely unrealistic trade of shipping a 2nd and 4th (people love to throw in Parrish on this deal too) for Waters, Gonzo, and Dorsey??
  20. I see two Donte Whitner's on Facebook. Which one is him? Are either??
  21. Unfortunately I've heard the same crap from people on THIS page...
  22. Jesus people. Rhodes is a 30 year old re-tread. He is there to spell Jackson in case Omon isn't ready weeks 1-3 next year. This doesn't/shouldn't mean anything for Lynch. Lynch should stay put. He's 22. With Jackson being 28 and Rhodes being 30, neither is the future at RB for Buffalo. Lynch is. And thanks to his off the field issues, he won't be banging down the door of the FO for MJD-type $$ just yet, so we won't have to trade him away a la Jason Peters.
  23. I think you're on drugs. Both are sure-fire busts IMO. Hope I'm wrong. Doesn't look like it though.
  24. After reading this article, http://blackandgold.com/blogs/hagan714/89-...arm-length.html, the measureables suggest Beatty might be one of the better OT's to come out of this draft. Now, my question is (for those of you that have watched them), who will be better: Beatty, Oher, or Britton? Personally, I think Andre Smith is going to be a huge bust, and Jason Smith/Eugene Monroe won't be there, so I left them all out of the question.
