Peter King has lots of Bills thoughts
Leonidas replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"I think I'm all for maximizing my draft booty, but I think the Bills are going too far in trying to deal Roscoe Parrish. He's one of the most dangerous weapons in the game, and I'd rather have four or five Parrish touches per game -- and the threat that each carries with it. Parrish is worth far more than the fourth- or fifth-round pick he'd bring back to Buffalo." Great point, PK. So many of us here have been saying the same thing... Now, if Pettigrew were a healthy Shockey without being a headcase, wouldn't he be a great pick at #11? Shockey's first year in NY he caught 74 passes for nearly 900 yards! I think Pettigrew is a better blocker too. Didn't he own Orakpo when they played? Screw the draft guru's. If he's your man, and there are no willing trade partners in the mid-teens, then you take him. Shockey was a #14 pick. K. Winslow II was a #6. Heath Miller was a #30. We have other picks. There are FA OLB's and OG's. OT can be addressed at #28, DE can be addressed at #42. From ESPN Insider: Brandon Pettigrew | TEScouts Inc. Grade: 93 Overall Football Traits Production 2 Red-shirted in 2004. Played in 11 games (nine starts) as a freshman in 2005, finishing with 128 yards and one TD on 11 receptions. Started all 13 games as a sophomore in 2006, finishing with 310 yards and four scores on 24 receptions. Started all 13 games as a junior in 2007, finishing with 540 yards (15.4) and four scores on 35 receptions. 2008: Starts all 10 games he plays and finishes with 472 yards on 42 catches (zero TD's). Height-Weight-Speed 3 Possesses prototypical height and bulk for an NFL tight end. He's a good athlete but his straight-line speed is below-average for the position particularly for a high draft choice. Durability 2 Injuries have not been a significant issue. He missed three games (Troy, Texas A&M and Missouri) in 2008 due to an ankle injury. But he recovered and finished the season strong. He also started all 13 games during each of the previous two seasons (2006-'07). Character 4 Charged with felony assault and battery of a police officer in February, 2008. Police responded to an altercation at a residence in Stillwater, OK. When asked to leave, Pettigrew refused and elbowed an officer in the chest. Pettigrew has since pleaded guilty to a lesser charge (misdemeanor assault and battery) in return for fines paid and 20 hours of community service. He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor public intoxication in the incident and was fined $100. He received a deferred sentence and won't have a criminal record if he successfully completes probation. Coach Mike Gundy declined to suspend Pettigrew, saying in February that he would allow the case to run its course. Tight End specific Traits Ball Skills 2 Productive receiver with big, soft hands. He can pluck on the run and also catches the ball consistently over his head. Rarely drops a 'catchable' pass and when he does it typically has been due to a lapse in concentration. Separation Skills 3 Big target; knows how to use his frame to shield defenders from the ball. Is fluid and smooth for his size. Shows adequate-to-good initial burst off the line. But he doesn't run all of his routes with the same level of urgency. He is sloppy with his breaks and needs rounds too many off. Shows an overall lack of discipline at times. Blocking 1 Better blocker than most at his position. Big frame with long arms and big hands. Good overall strength for a TE. Is able to anchor at the point of attack when he stays low. Displays good upper-body power for the position and flashes a mean streak. Does a good job with his first step. He is a more effective blocker in-line than he is in space, though. He needs to be more consistent with his technique in space, rather than looking to bury the defender with his initial pop. Toughness 2 Flashes a mean streak. Will make tough catches in traffic. Won't back down from a challenge. Only concern here is with his mental toughness. Tends to turn motor on and off. Can get lazy and undisciplined at times. Big-Play Potential 4 This is one of the big areas of concern regarding his pro potential. While smooth and fluid for his size, he lacks the speed necessary to consistently stretch the seam as a receiver. Additionally, while he is a tough runner after the catch, he's not going to make many defenders miss in space, nor will he run away from many LB's or DB's in the NFL. Trait Scale 1 = Exceptional 2 = Above average 3 = Average 4 = Below average 5 = Marginal -
...five months before the season??

Didn't Spurrier even question this kids work ethic publicly? His stats don't match up to Coffman's (who will likely be available in the third, unlike Cook) and he doesn't come close to blocking nearly as well as Pettigrew. The more I think about it the more I think we're going to find a way to take Pettigrew, reach or not. As long as we don't take that bum Andre Smith... "Coach him up"?? You must be watching a different team...

Getting Rhodes Was Really Stupid
Leonidas replied to grammer_police's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is quite literally the dumbest post I've ever seen. -
Well done, sir. I'm starting to think we could trade down with SD, allowing them to leapfrog Denver in getting a Tyson Jackson or a BJ Raji, were they both to fall. We could drop down to #16 where Pettigrew would almost certainly be available, pick up an extra 3rd (if SD is willing, obviously) and still grab an OT at #28. There seems to be little doubt Pettigrew will be a Heath Miller-type pro, whereas there's all sorts of doubts about the professionals Andre Smith and Michael Oher will become. So where would that put him now? Five reps?? Neither did Peters. Not at LT.

Giving me crap? A "penis" is the nicest thing I've ever been called on this board

was the original post a question? I...I don't even know. Of course, there are like 4527348652 threads on this already, and EVERY one of them was infinitely more informative than a post saying "tackle - bell, chambers." But anything I can do to help...

Question about Offensive Linemen Versitility
Leonidas replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, you never see a 6'8", 330 lb. center, he couldn't get low enough and plays we he would pull would take a week. On the flip side, you can't have a 6'2" LT with T-Rex arms. Not a stupid question at all though. And FWIW, I agree with the last poster - wtf is with your avatar??? -

Are you two dating?? -
Somebody tell me how much Parrish will make this season. I'll give you a hint. It's not $3.5M. It's not $3M. It's not even $2.5M. I guess if you say anything often enough it becomes true, no matter how false it really is. And this thought that Fred Jackson - at 28 (two years OLDER than Parrish) will easily fill in for him blows my !@#$ing mind.

Steeler Source says trade for Bills wide receiver Parrish
Leonidas replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because you don't want your starting CB's to return punts and kicks all of the time. Especially when you aren't paying him all that much. Have you read the threads on this yet? There is a huge difference between #21 and #28. Especially for us. In it's simplest form, at #21 we get Pettigrew. At #28 we do not. You have literally no idea what you're talking about. -
McCargo is a bust. I'm a little surprised he's still on the roster, but at some point I think we're going to have to part ways with him. I'm not sure what the issue even is at this point, but he's shown nothing, really. Wendling? I have to assume that if our jailbird safeties (Whitner, Simpson) are out/on parole they'll be starting, or maybe Scott starting at SS with Whitner moving to free. Bowen didn't show anything at all, then tore up his knee. Before the '08 draft some said he might not even get drafted, and his "highlights" weren't all that impressive. I hope I'm wrong here, but I think he'll bust out within the next two years. Fine is as good as any starting TE...we have. Of course, that just means he's as good as Shouman, which doesn't help. I wasn't impressed with Fine at all last season, and for a alleged receiving TE he doesn't have top end speed or leaping ability or athleticism or agility or...well, anything. He seems to be a decent #2, but I'd prefer a bonafide #1 like Pettigrew. Bell did 9 reps at the '08 combine. The USC kicker this year did 25. That should tell you something. Oman didn't look good in very limited opportunities last year. He might get shafted to the practice squad as I find it very, very difficult to believe he'll dress for any games this year over Jackson or Rhodes once Marshawn comes back from suspension. Hardy and Johnson won't do much in '09, and they won't be asked to. But they will both be fighting for that #2 spot in 2010. I'd say Stevie J. has the slight edge at this point - especially with Hardy's injury - but it's a wide open race and Hardy's got a huge size advantage and runs a faster 40 (although it doesn't appear to translate to the game just yet). Johnson was very good at Kentucky though and could do some damage out there when called upon. He certainly has the size (6'0" 210) and speed (4.55) to do it. Thanks for the invaluable input. Based on what? Also, Walker isn't a long-term solution at LT, he's a stop-gap measure. We'll be addressing this at the draft for sure.

thanks for that extremely informative post...

Bills interested in DT John Henderson
Leonidas replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two 4th's and the #11 overall pick for a depressed OT that will more than likely be shuffled off the guard at some point? Sounds familiar... -
Would that make him the Joey Harrington of OT's? I seem to remember Tony Siragusa calling Harrington more of a "cheese and wine" guy and him not taking it all that well. Anyone? No Beatty analysis? Bandit27? I'm more than a little concerned over here about how to fill this hole, having serious concerns with Andre Smith and Michael Oher.

On ESPN.com's indivdual team-by-team "mock" he had us picking Malcolm Kelly at #11. That would have been a disaster... -

my thoughts EXACTLY -
Why does everybody have an opinion on Oher but nobody really seems to know anthing about Beatty? Isn't he the next rated LT on the board (assuming Britton is an RT)?
-
If the Bills got him from 9 reps to 25 in one season while teaching him how to play the game at the professional level, nobody should ever speak badly about the organization again. That would be an incredible feat.
-
Maybe it was less?? http://gnb.scout.com/2/731358.html There's a distinct difference between 9/10 reps and 27. I'm not so sure you can actually recover from 9/10 reps to the mid-twenties. But it seems to me like Beatty isn't all that far off in his strength and conditioning.
-
That is pretty funny. But now wait a minute, didn't Bell only do 10 reps on the bench? Beatty did 27. Eugene Monroe only did 23, Oher did 21. Am I missing something here??
