Hey, did anyone see ProBowler Jason Peters today?
Leonidas replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WTF are you talking about now? Some guy clearly wasn't watching the game and I pointed it out to him. Shut the !@#$ up, dude... -

Well obviously if profootballfocus calls him elite (which it doesn't, fyi), then it must be true. 12th doesn't equal elite (spare me the injury excuses). He didn't want to be paid as the 12th best tackle in the league, he wanted to be paid as the best. For a guy who let his salary affect his performance on the field (per Tim Graham) that is unacceptable. By the way, reading that I noted Peters has taken less than 600 snaps this season (low), is run blocking is average (nowhere near that of Joe Thomas or, funny enough, Michael Oher), his pass blocking is above average/good, and he's near the league lead in penalties taken. Oh, and someone should tell Vollmer, Clady, Gaither, Backus, et al. that they all should hold out for pay raises since Peters makes far more than all of them. As I said, just because we didn't adequately replace him (D. Bell, K. Chambers, J. Scott) doesn't mean that keeping him was the proper move. But when a situation is that far gone you cannot let one person be above the team. No way, no how. Should it have gotten that far? Of course not. But you're a flat-out idiot if you think that this past April the Bills should have just opened their checkbooks on this one. FYI, this has nothing to do with Pat Williams (who we should have kept), London Fletcher (who we also should have kept), Nate Clements (who we should have gotten compensation for rather than just let him walk), Winfield (who I was fine letting walk), etc. -
Any chance the Bills/KC game next week

Why would they flex to Jim Sorgi vs. Ryan Fitzpatrick in a blizzard??? -

Way to prove you have no idea what you're talking about. Peters got "banged up" left the game in the 2nd quarter. -

I'm not sure how many times I'm going to have to explain this, but just because we did not adequately replace him - which we did not - does not mean that we should have overpaid for him. That's how you get into salary cap hell, and that's how small market teams really !@#$ themselves. I'm not in denial you fool. You can't let one man handcuff an entire organization. The well had been poisoned and he had to go. I just wish we had replaced him adequately. We'll get that chance in April. Oh, and your premise that everyone played better with Peters is just stupid. Our interior line is better now than it was last year, Trent hasn't played well since about week 8 last year, Peters or no Peters, and if you think Lynch isn't playing well because of Peters, you're on drugs. -

Unfortunately 'amazing athlete' doesn't equate to consistent, dominant, elite left tackle deserving of top dollar. Ask...never mind. Too easy. -
by whom??

Winfield and Clements weren't the issue. And Clements still isn't worth the 8-year/$80M contract he got. Not even close. One doesn't have to blindly pledge allegiance to the front office to see that Peters wasn't worth what he was demanding. He's missed how many games? Given up how many sacks? Taken how many penalties? Yeah. Best tackle in the league? What a complete joke. -

Trent Edwards should be starting
Leonidas replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, we need to see what Trent has. Unless you think Fitz is the long-term answer, which I do not. Trent's got one more year left on his contract, he'll definitely be around next year. Give him the last few games. Maybe give Brohm a few series if he's up to it, but do not just throw him to the wolves. I don't care if we win these last few games, with the exception of the Patriots game. A win there would be huge. -
FWIW (not much really) Real GM mock draft
Leonidas replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anybody who thinks we should get Derek Anderson should blow their brains out right now. Make sure to get your whole head in front of the shotgun. -
You're right. The only reason Brees even started season 4 was because Rivers held-out. Just like Brees, Edwards is entering the last year of his contract. He'll be around next year at his meager salary, and he'll probably be given the option to compete. We'll see how it turns out. Eli took well into his fourth year to emerge as a franchise QB too. I don't have faith in Trent at this point, but it makes no sense to cut him.

If the draft were today, we'd be ... 11th!
Leonidas replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amen. Does anybody think we wouldn't have drafted Maybin at #7 overall? -
The Patriots never cease to amaze me
Leonidas replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm glad somebody else noticed that. The hold up the middle was so blatant... Amen. My thoughts exactly. Carney looked awful tonight, even if the stats don't show it. You bothered to reply about your own fantasy team? Shut the !@#$ up, dude. Nobody cares. -
To be fair, I think he was talking about the plethora of people who have no medical background who offered their 'expert' advice without being prompted.

Chances TO signs an extension in '10?
Leonidas replied to CosmicBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nobody wanted him after his, what, ninth consecutive 1000-yard season (excluding his shortened season in Philly), but they'll want him after his 800 yard season this year, one year older? Get real. And giving him top dollar at this age is nuts. I would love to bring him back for one more year, but don't think his value is any higher. Another year at $6-7M would be in store. -

4-year deal for $30M+??? To a 36 year old Terrell Owens?? Are you on drugs??? Next to Brian Moorman, right? (I'm only half-joking here). Why would anyone trade a top pick for T.O. when they declined the opportunity to sign him in free agency before this season began?? Apparently not... -

A Few Thoughts About The Game
Leonidas replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That wasn't the question. You asked if we would rather have McKelvin or Florence. That's easy: McKelvin. You didn't ask if we could have Florence AND Branden Albert or Ryan Clady or McKelvin, that's easy too (you take the former). But don't forget, Florence got badly burned playing man defense in Jacksonville. If we change out of this weak scheme, you might not be seeing Florence with those rose-colored glasses. Leodis can play man, Florence can't. Or not as well, at least. Plus, it's all irrelevant. Hindsight is 20/20. We don't have the option of keeping McKelvin OR Florence and picking up Albert/Clady at this point. Very well put. And with McGee signing an extension, Florence - if retained - will stay in the nickel. The way Reggie Corner played today and the way Youboty seems to be completely irrelevant, he very well might be retained. Not sure, though. Depends on the scheme next year, depends on how the FO likes the current talent. -
Amen. What a horrible post-game. I'd never heard of these guys before, but they were flat out awful. I could only listen to so much of it before turning it off. The lead guy (Schopp?) shouldn't even be fired; he should be shot (sarcasm...kind of). The other guy (Bulldog?) wasn't much better. Why not analyze what went wrong and what went right and how to improve upon it instead of harping on Fred Jackson running three yards for an additional score? Don't forget, Miami embarrassed us 38-10 week 4, and we weren't putting in the air, but merely trying to run the clock up and gain a little respect in the meantime. Makes me long for the days of Mike and the Mad Dog down in the NYC area. I used to love listening to WGR leaving the games, but I will not be listening to these schmucks again.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. 1) They drafted last year in anticipation of firing Dick Jauron and completely replacing the defensive scheme? You don't honestly believe that, do you? You think DJ was anticipating his own demise? 2) He never played OLB in college, how exactly is he 'born' to be one? Because he's too small to be DE? Does Maybin have the recognition skills to play LB? Does he have the lateral quickness? Can he cover? Can he take on guards at the second level? I think you should be able to answer all these questions - and you can't - before you start saying he was 'born' to play OLB. Look, I really, really hope I'm wrong on this. But I think now, more than ever, that Maybin is a bust.
-
Wrong. I was there too. Every time he rushed the passer he got nonchalantly pushed up the field. He's out of his league. It still drives me nuts that we drafted him. He will not be a DE in this league for long.
