  1. My God, some people. #3 or #4 at best? Are you on drugs? Can I have some? He might not be a bonafide #1, but let's settle down with the hyperbole, alright? If they don't like it and want Owens back, then do what it takes to get him back, be it a raise, a franchise tag, or whatever. But there are so many holes beyond WR on this team it's not even funny. Besides, teams have been successful with far less. The Patriots won super bowls with Troy Brown, David Givens, and Deion Branch. The Eagles went to NFC Championship games with Todd Pinkston, Freddie Mitchell, and Greg Lewis. I'll take my chances with Evans/Johnson/Hardy/Parrish if we can get a competent guy to get him the ball and a competent LT to protect him, not to mention a competent coach to prepare them and call the plays. Again, apologies for hijacking this thread.
  2. I can think of about ten more to add...
  3. It should be pointed out that the Jets have the best offensive line in the world (Furgueson/Faneca/Mangold, all pro-bowlers, on the left side), they have a plethora of talented running backs (Jones, Washington, Greene), and their overall offense is still pretty poor. Not to mention that ultra-conservative Marty-ball follows the Schotts. Pass.
  4. I don't want to hijack this thread, but Johnson and Hardy are in their third seasons. They should both be on the field. Assuming Reed isn't re-signed and Parrish isn't traded, he still makes an excellent fourth option. Justin Jenkins can even be a #4. There are considerably more important positions to look at like LT, QB, LB, DE (again), coach (hah) over WR.
  5. What the other guy said. And did this need it's own thread??
  6. First of all, if you sit on the coach, he's going to be pissed. Or he might like it, and you will be pissed. Or at least your wife will be, I dunno. Concerning Grimm and Rivera, I dunno. Maybe it's a weather thing? San Diego/Arizona vs. Buffalo? That's a no-brainer for most people. Maybe they don't have it in them to take a project franchise when they have such an easy gig where they are. Maybe they don't want to interview until the playoffs are over. I don't know. Any of those are plausible explanations though. I will say that I have no idea what you're talking about with NCP, JJ, CB, CB, NBC, CIA, FBI, ABC, ESPN, ETC. ETC. And if you're unemployed you need to be able to make a living. If you've already made $20M over the course of your lifetime, maybe you want to play some golf instead. I'm pretty sure there's a difference between you (or I) and any of these football people in that respect. All opinions are welcome here, but so are those opinions given in response. Don't expect to be loved with that type of anti-Bills mentality. In all honesty, you are probably in the wrong place, especially since you seem to be coming right off the bat with that attitude. Just my $.02.
  7. True, and I'd love to run a Buddy Ryan or Jim Johnson-type defense. But being exposed to them and implementing them on your watch are two completely different things. He's having a lot of success with the cover 2 right now. I have a very hard time believing he comes to Buffalo which is already running the same scheme and does a massive overhaul. I just can't see it happening.
  8. I don't think I've seen a thread with more bull **** speculation in my life...
  9. Fair point. He wasn't the defensive coordinator in Philly so it wasn't his call, and I don't know what he ran in Cincinatti. But chances are (wouldn't you agree?) that you come from one place running a Tampa 2 to another one running the exact same scheme you probably don't change it all that much.
  10. Ummm, you mean why would he leave New Jersey to come to Buffalo? I dunno, the fact that his salary would be more than doubled and he'd get to be a head coach? I dunno...
  11. Exactly. You haven't heard me call for Billick once yet for a reason.
  12. Actually, no, he doesn't owe him an apology. The fact that a guy who has made millions and won super bowls (Cowher, Shanahan) doesn't want to come coach in Buffalo isn't all that much of a shocker. They've both accomplished the biggest goal in coaching and are financially set for life, so why rush into something? Shanahan's got what he perceives as a better situation - an owner willing to spend cash anywhere (didn't you read the article on how Shanahan's staff gets ridiculously bloated? perfect for a Synder-owned team), and Cowher has the luxury of waiting on the perfect situation for him. But let's get back to it. Haven't you ever turned down a job offer before? People turn down job offers every day at all levels of a company, from janitor to CEO. I love how people try to come on here and make what sounds like a sophisticated business analogy but is just crap. I'm not sure how much of your $12,000 in taxes goes to the BB (although I would estimate very little since they're still playing in that old stadium out in OP), but the best way to show your displeasure to simply not buy tickets or merchandise. As one person it won't make much of a difference, but the more that follow the more of an impact it will make. I should say that since I believe NYS' income tax is 6.85% (I don't live in NYS), if you're paying $12,000 in state taxes every year you're making over $175,000/year and I'm pretty certain there are few people here - a Western New York message board - who want to hear you bitching about money. Check with Tipster19 if you don't believe me. The reason the OP was bashed is because he wrote an anti-Bills dissertation that ended with wishing they would leave the area on a Bills message board. You think that's going to attract positive responses? Maybe you are the ignorant one, sir.
  13. I am amazed at some of the people on this board. First of all, how would Brian Schottenheimer bring the 46 defense to Buffalo exactly? He's an offensive coordinator on a team that just started running the 46 this year. In previous years, under Mangini, they ran a hybrid 3-4 defense. When Rex Ryan came over from Baltimore, he brought Ravens LB coach Mike Pettine to coach the defense. Do you really think Schottenheimer, who has worked only with the offense, learned the 46 in one year? Or is it more likely that he'll adopt his father's scheme? Pass: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marty_Ball To the guy who wants Jason Garrett as the head coach, please check yourself into the nearest drug rehab center. Leslie Frazier is going to bring that same ****ty defensive scheme that we don't have the players (still) to implement. In Minny he's got Jared Allen coming off the end and the Williamses closing up the middle. Who do we have, especially with Aaron Schobel about to retire? That bust Maybin flying around the end (and five yards behind the quarterback) and the aging Marcus Stroud 'clogging' up the middle? I'm sick of this Tampa 2 crap! Pass. To the guy who likes the younger Schotty because you "like his experience, his upbringing, his potential, his bloodline, his successes, his age, potential...." where do I start? You basically said a bunch of different ways that you want to hire him because his father is Marty ("his upbringing, his potential, his bloodline, potential" (again)). Fine, I disagree 100%, but at least just say that. Also, what successes? I'm with K Gun. He's ridden the best defense in the league to a 9-7 start essentially playing two exhibition games to close out the season. Pass.
  14. Ewwww x 2. Pennington's throwing shoulder is in complete disrepair, and Kellen Clemens is horrible. The thought of having a Schottenheimer coaching our team is bad enough...
  15. Once a douche, always a douche. The mid-term elections aren't for ten months, so you can relax a bit there bud...
  16. That's a real argument. What MDH was referring to, I believe, was that we shouldn't go after him should he be available (which he won't) simply because Rob Johnson was also a good, young backup, and the situations have some anecdotal similarities.
  17. You're not missing anything. Marty-ball (going ultra-conservative when it comes down to crunch time) is not how I want my franchise run. I want a competent offense that will run a play-action bootleg on 2nd and 6 up by four with 1:55 left to play in the game, and I want a defense that gives all sorts of different looks so the opposing QB has no idea who's rushing and who's dropping back. No Marty ball and no more of this Tampa 2 ****. Tampa 2 only works with all-world defensive linemen (Tampa had Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp, Indy had Freeney and Mathis (Mathis not all-world, but certainly well above average, especially with all the focus on Freeney)). I think I'd rather vomit in my mouth than have a 66-year old Schottenheimer who has a 5-13 playoff record and hasn't won a playoff game since 1993. Remember the last time he coached in the playoffs, the debacle against New England? Going for it on 4th and 11 for no particular reason?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Foot...ego_Chargers_21
  18. except when it comes to the playoffs...
  19. Tim, isn't Cameron an offensive guy?? Sorry, I had to! It's not every day I get to correct a national sports writer...
  20. Don't blame us. Zazie decided to make this his personal soapbox...again...
  21. Oh my God...thank the good Lord that you are not involved in this football team in any way. Tarvaris Jackson is horrible. He beat out a career journeyman in Sage Rosenfels. His career completion percentage is less than 59%. He has almost as many interceptions as touchdowns when defenses were totally focused on Peterson every time they played the Vikes. And as if that isn't enough, by replacing Jackson the Vikings went from a 10-6 team squeaking their way into the playoffs in a weak division to a 12-4 team that was one of the best teams all season.
  22. great football comparison...
