Jesus Christ... At least you're not jumping the gun a little bit on Leodis... Jesus Christ, people. Jim Leonhard is nothing special, Sam Aiken is a terrible WR who looked serviceable when catching passes from a HOF QB, and Greer - as much as I like the guy - is being promoted as the next Champ Bailey on this board. Get a grip, people. Any why did we draft McKelvin? Because Greer hadn't shown he could be a starter by that point, despite having ample opportunity to do so. And yeah, hindsight is 20/20. Show me the thread from 2007/2008 where you wanted to draft Ryan Clady, being the top scout that you are. Otherwise quit your bitching. Do you ever think for yourself, or do you just let that website think for you? Greer started eight games this season. Is he worth that $7M for those eight games? How did New Orleans do without him in the lineup? The man-love for Jabari is insane around here, I don't get it. I watched him play when he was with Buffalo. He was a serviceable corner, not flashy, instinctive, and bizzarely athletic like Revis, Bailey, Asoughma and his counterparts, but a solid #3 who could definitely give you some games on the outside. But he's not shutting down anybody. In 2008? What are you talking about? We had terrible depth at CB. Greer was completely unproven at that point, Youboty was not even supposed to make it out of training camp, and Will James (Peterson) didn't make it out of training camp. Again, don't think for yourself on this one. There are a ton of different variables as to why Greer and McGee are hard to compare. Completely different schemes with completely different offenses to affect the other teams' play-calling. The amount of sacks for either team is irrelevant. Both were hurt and neither one of them proved to be much of a ball-hawk this year (of course Jabari's never been one, but that's neither here nor there). There's an old football addage that says the farther away you are from the ball the less important you are. The Patriots won for years with completely injury-riddled secondaries (remember Troy Brown anyone?). The Giants won the 2007 Super Bowl with dinosaurs R.W. McQuarters and Sam Madison in there, with rookie Aaron Ross. I don't think I could name a CB on the '06 Colts. Letting a guy like Greer walk doesn't ruin the Bills. It's a lack of a pass rush that does.

Had those cheap hits on Favre happened to Brady....
Leonidas replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What the hell are you talking about? They over-protected Favre as much as possible. The whole league is shitting the bed at this point. -
I loathe this new format. Between this and the constant international games I think Roger Goddell is seriously ruining the NFL. I had more faith in Tagliabue working towards keeping the Bills in Buffalo. Goddell, not so much.

I wish the Bills went 0-16 in 1997
Leonidas replied to machinegun12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's just not true. Peyton is anything but a system QB. He is an all-world QB and would be with any franchise. He's single-handedly turning guys off the street like Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon into extremely serviceable WR's. -
+1. The only thing worse is watching Brett Favre's wife every four or five minutes. WTF is up with that??

2010 Free Agents - List - By Positiion
Leonidas replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A couple of points: 1) For positions we don't need to address (CB, S, punter, kicker, long snapper, etc.), you probably didn't need to list them. But c'est la vie; I agree that those positions are solid. 2) Chris Redman is terrible. Two good games this year in a system he's been studying for three years does not make up for years of ineptitude. He was out of football for three years for a reason. 3) Chad Pennington should probably hang it up. His arm has got to be made of jello at this point. If you bring it in and he can sling it 60 yards in the air, then fine. But I doubt it. 4) Wilfork isn't going anyway. People are crazy if they don't think New England is going to franchise him, especially with an uncapped year and Kraft's got money to spend. 5) Speaking of the uncapped year, don't all the rules change with regards to UFA's/RFA's? Do these lists take them into account? 6) Peppers isn't coming to Buffalo. Not that he's going back to Carolina, but he's going to command major bucks somewhere. But it won't be in Buffalo. 7) Chad Clifton is like 100. I can't believe they were even able to piece his pelvis back together after Sapp broke it in half. His retirement is way past due. 8) I see Campbell sticking around Washington. He finished off the season reasonably well and they don't have a replacement for him. Of course I'm sure Snyder/Allen would give Shanahan the green light to pull off a blockbuster trade with Chicago to get Cutler back, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen. Campell being a free agent, that trade would likely be just for draft picks leaving Campbell available. Barring that, I expect him to return to Washington. -
Why are we drafting more guards? Or TE's? And why are you spelling it "defence"?? This isn't soccer. And why are you cutting our best QB from '09? And why are you cutting our best pass rusher? And why is David Carr the future?? Oh boy I'm getting a headache over here...

haha, ohh totally guilty as charged on that one. Just went back and read it. Oops. But I've heard a ton of that Trent Dilfer crap on this board the past week when people were actually serious as that being a reason to ignore the position come draft day...

Bills on NFL Network about moving
Leonidas replied to RLflutie7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From just two weeks ago: “The Bills are part of the very fabric of Western New York, and in Western New York they will stay,” said Schumer in a statement. “Ralph Wilson is committed to Western New York, has had no contact with any purported suitors, and flatly told me that the Bills are staying in Buffalo. Period. I have long fought to keep the team here, and will continue to do so with every bit of clout I have. I was tremendously reassured to learn today, directly from Ralph, that there has been zero contact with this company and that there is absolutely no consideration of entertaining any of this company’s potential future offers. Buffalo Bills fans can rest a little bit easier tonight.” http://losangeles.bizjournals.com/losangel...04/daily29.html -
Can people stop pointing out Trent Dilfer when saying we don't need to draft a QB? When we develop a defense that ranks in the top five of all time then that point can be made...

This is the worst thread I've seen here in a LONG time. Well done, sir. Can I take that bet you made with someone else over the Stanford RB? Have you watched Tebow? Byron Leftwich thinks he has a long, deliberate delivery. Add to that sub-par accuracy and not playing in a pro system, there isn't a chance in hell Tebow is a successful QB at the NFL level. Besides, technique is the "easiest" part to learn? You must be joking...
-
That is, hands down, the least helpful draft 'suggestion' I've ever seen. Draft for value, not according to some arbitrary restraints. And Tebow/McCoy in the first? Drafting a RB at all? And why are we drafting an ILB over an OLB?
-
Only need to address a few positions? I thought we had an anemic offense with no QB and a swiss cheese line and one of the worst run defenses in the league this past year. Should be no problem passing the Patriots and Jets in the division with just a few hits in the draft. Guess the Pats with their 3 no. 1s and 4 no.2s, they acquired through DEALING in the next two draft s wont be getting any better. Yeah, a few positions. QB, LT, LB. We need talent at those positions, not more mediocre players. If we're switching to a 3-4 then that obviously changes. I don't think the Patriots have three number one's. I think they have just one. But they do have three two's. And they've been dealing picks for YEARS, it wasn't just a product of last year's draft. They've ruled the draft for years, but most speculation was that they were gunning for Harvin and outsmarted themselves. And we aren't exactly in the same position as the Patriots. As I said, they drafted for the future. We don't have that luxury. Think more of Cleveland's draft and what a disaster that was.

Regarding the viewpoint that Maybin is too small
Leonidas replied to BobbyC81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can we stop with these threads already?? Jesus... -
Take Claussen if he's available, QB is the most important position on the team and the hardest to fill. Despite people who love to say LT is, it's not. There are plenty of teams who are successful with average LT's (Arizona last year/this year, Pittsburgh last year; Matt Light (NE) is overrated) - you don't need a stud. You also can't have a sieve there, so obviously the position needs upgrading.
-
Everyone seems to think they know what to do with Maybin. Everyone wants to turn him into a LB, yet everything I've read suggests he's played DE his entire football life. Is he going to suddenly learn how to drop back into coverage? Is he suddenly going to learn the reads? Look, Maybin played at Penn State at 236. As soon as he bulked up to 249 his speed decreased significantly. The problem is that even when his speed dropped off, his new weight didn't provide him with NFL strength. That's evidenced by him beating absolutely no one this year on the edge. I think Maybin busts. I thought that two months before the NFL draft, and nothing has happened to change my mind. I also think we've had more than enough Maybin threads and we certainly didn't need another one, especially one that merely regurgitates the suggestion that he move to LB.

Amen. We only need to address a few positions, but we need to hit on those. People get so obsessed with trading down. If the right opportunity is there and the guy(s) we want aren't, then sure. But otherwise we should take a player of value there that fills one of top needs (LT, QB). When was that?? 1978??? No, actually, I don't remember that. I do remember the Browns continuously trading down last year and getting a center and some other below average talent. They had an awful draft. I also remember the Patriots trading down and trading down and missing their targeted player (Percy Harvin). They had a pretty good draft anyway, but then again, they're in a totally different position than we are. Chung, Brace, and Vollmer were all picks for the future. We have holes to fill now.

5 things Gailey must do to turn things around
Leonidas replied to STLBILLS15's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why move Wood to center and Butler to guard? Butler looked good at RT until the injury. No need to create more holes. Draft an LT to join Levitre/Hangartner/Wood/Butler, and work with what you've got for depth (Meredith, Bell, Scott, Chambers - dumping the weakest of them). Seems like a no-brainer to me. -
We just hired the "offensive version of Dick Jaruon"

I love Rome. He's hilarious. With all the worthless clowns on ESPN (Mariotti, Bayless, Golic, etc.) it's nice to have him to listen to. I DVR his show every day. He's topped only by Mike and the Mad Dog (now defunct) and the PTI boys. Everyone else (Around the Horn, Mike and Mike, Cold Pizza) are flat out unwatchable.
