Big Ben isnt nearly the rapist we thought he was
Leonidas replied to CarolinaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was a ridiculously stupid "article." You guys shouldn't have responded and just let it fade away into TSW obscurity. It was already halfway down the page... -
Note CSBill, Thurman#1 will often use "IMHO" when there is nothing "H" whatsoever about his "O". He's also still in love with Jason Peters (to almost a scary degree), and has trouble making an argument without referencing profootballfocus.com. This "here's to your first post" will also likely be the nicest post you get from him, so take it and run. In reference to my first comment, I merely meant that this is no different than the Tony Scheffler and Pisa Tinoisamoa situations and others like it - people who have never seen the guy play here a rumor and suddenly start clamoring for him because he feels a need. I'm reminded of a multi-page Scheffler thread where I asked if anyone had seen the guy play, then nobody responded for hours. I don't think it's any different here. Whether Thurman#1 would like to admit it or not, Peters had (has) a problem staying motivated. This was pretty obvious when he returned from his holdout what, 30 pounds overweight?, and used the rest of the season to get back into playing shape. But I'd rather not make this into yet another Peters thread so I'll stop there. The word on Gaither is, well, he's not available, but also that he has a poor work ethic and could fold when he sees the big bucks. If you're going to be paying your franchise LT $8-10M/year you should at least be secure that he's going to do the job well.

Perhaps, I'm certainly no scout. But everything I've heard has him going before NYG can draft him, and that they would consider moving up to get him. Could all be smoke and mirrors of course, but that defense was horrible last year and could certainly use the help in the LB corps. And...he doesn't gouge out eyes at the bottom of piles. Not that we know of, of course.

Too many holes in the mock to buy into it (McClain getting past the Giants, CJ Spiller to Oakland (although with Al, I suppose anything's possible), Parcells drafting D. Thomas #12 overall? possible I suppose), but I love the draft chart, thanks for posting it.

Chris Kelsay ranked 71 of 73
Leonidas replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chris Kelsay was a bad 4-3 DE. He's going to be a horrible 3-4 OLB. -
To be honest, their only glaring hole is at QB. You hate to root against a kid, but you have to hope Sanchez doesn't progress past his 53.8% completion, 12TD/20INT performance last year. Also, I think Alan Faneca is getting a bit old and this could be his last season of solid productivity as a starter. They need help at DE, and thankfully it looks like Gholston is gonna bust at OLB. Don't know who starting at FS with Rhodes gone. And Nick Folk blows. But yeah, solid otherwise. Scary that they keep getting better...although I still root for them earnestly against the Patriots.

First, without Googling it, do you know Gaither's first name? If not, I think we're done here. Second, have you ever seen him play? If both of those are a yes, then what do you know about his work ethic and his contract situation? Do they remind you of Jason Peters at all?

Why not throw in a few more fantasy trades and really have fun? In mine, I traded Lynch for two fourths and a fifth, I traded Lee Evans for a second and a fourth, Whitner for a third, Brian Moorman for a fifth, Lindell for a sixth, and Billy Buffalo for a seventh: 1) Bryan Bulaga, OT 2) Colt McCoy, QB 2) Cam Thomas, NT 3) Dexter McCluster, RB 3) Carlton Mitchell, WR 4) Mitch Petrus, OG 4) Kevin Basped, DE/OLB 4) Jamar Chaney, ILB 4) Clay Harbor, FB 5) Dezmon Briscoe, WR 5) Linval Joseph, NT 6) Leigh Tiffin, K 6) Zoltan Mesko, P 7) Andre Anderson, RB 7) Mike Kafka, QB

Need some help here...
Leonidas replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For free I just send a PM to TheBandit27 and ask him who's getting drafted where. Worked pretty well last year... -
Not like LT or NT is. You can win with mediocre WR's. You can't win with terrible blocking and no run defense. Is the FO really down on Stevie J. and Frankenstein to spend a top draft pick on another WR? With all the talent out on the free agent market (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?positionId=1&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl%2ffa%3fpositionId%3d1), is it really wise to spend a coveted high draft choice on someone that relies on other positions we have not yet solidified (OL/QB) to get him the ball? Not to mention the fact that he is considered an "extremely raw" talent. LOL, fair point. The Jairus Byrd pick I didn't understand at the time until I learned he was being converted to FS, and we really didn't have a FS. No, I wasn't a fan of the pick at the time, but at least I understood it after the fact. I agree you should stay as true to your board as possible, but with all the free agent talent at WR (even if it is aging talent), the WR's we drafted in '08 (Johnson and Hardy), and all the other needs on this team, I can't see going WR that early. I also come from the school of thought that a WR is one of the least important parts of your offense. Nothing happens without blocking - the offensive line is the most important IMO. Quarterback is the most important individual, obviously, as one poor link in an otherwise solid offensive line can be made up for - the same cannot be said at QB. That's especially true in this day and age with the proliferation of passing games. WR's and RB's are flashy, but are replaceable. New England won super bowls with no name WR's/RB's but solid lines. Again, just my opinion.
-
More importantly we have to stop calling the Bills to take a WR in the second. Too many needs to fill, to much young talent on the team at that position already, and too many free agent WR's available to spend high draft picks on them. Our focus should be LT, NT, QB, LB - in that order.

Sure it's a comparison. If you want to give Orakpo a four sack curve or something comparable, go ahead. But production numbers are more or less the only means of comparison. Orakpo was a finalist for rookie of the year. Maybin registered zero sacks and was rendered irrelevant. Even taking Haynesworth and Carter into consideration, Orakpo was by far the superior player last year.

The TOP 500 draft eligible players.....
Leonidas replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point, although Larsen was a DT and Petrus is an OG. I would think it would be more advantageous for Petrus (especially on the interior part of the line), but the point is still valid. Still, you gotta love a guy that strong, especially on Saturday (rounds 4-7). It's not like we have a lot of depth on the offensive line as is. -
If Maybin knocks down 10+ sacks this year I will be the first to carve myself out a nice piece of humble pie, and be happy to do it. But he won't. As a 3-4 OLB he's still going against OT's nearly a hundred pounds bigger than him, and I don't think he has the strength to overcome it. He didn't even sniff the QB last year. Having good games as a sophmore against Akron and Appalachian State or whomever doesn't equate to being a good pass rusher in the NFL. Since my Series 7 license is still technically valid, I can't even answer that in jest. That's an excellent question...

The TOP 500 draft eligible players.....
Leonidas replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On another note, if this guy's still available in the fourth, can we go after him, even if we're looking pretty good at the guard position? 45 reps on the bench??? Jesus... http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/mitch-petrus?id=497040 -
The TOP 500 draft eligible players.....
Leonidas replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, and the bios are extensive - unlike the Gosselin mock draft someone posted yesterday full of one-liners. Thanks! EDIT: I wish they had more combine stats than just the 40. Bench press reps would be nice for the linemen, and cone/shuttle drills are just as important for skill positions as the 40 if not moreso. -
We need to ACQUIRE talent, not trade it away

That doesn't stop everyone around here from speculating...

These are the same people that said the same thing about Alvin Bowen. Where's he these days??

Do people on this board honestly want to trade a 24-year old commodity at RB in Lynch and, with all the holes on the team (in addition to the one created by trading Lynch), draft a RB #9 overall? You people can't be serious. Keep Marshawn. Assuming you can't trade down and get value, draft the best LT available at #9, then take the best NT at #41. Enough with the CJ Spiller ****, people...

What do you want the Bills to do with the #9 PICK?
Leonidas replied to toddgurley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
13 people voted to take a RB with the #9 pick?? *sigh* -

I'm only 27 and I can still recognize that music sucks ass. But nice video indeed. -
Maybin is a bust. He was horrible last year. 18 tackles, 0 sacks. Orakpo had 50 tackles and 11 sacks. This isn't even close. People love his "story" or his work ethic. None of that means anything if you have the frame of a WR. Maybe he can become a decent OLB. Anything's possible. But he'll never justify the #11 overall pick, and he'll never get out of Orakpo's shadow.
