  1. They're all in a state of shock and denial. Not only is Losman back in the league, his current NFL stock is higher than Edwards!

One of the most retarded comments yet on this thread. Losman was 3rd string qb on Raiders and is again on Seahawks, Trent is the likely starter unless Brohm miraculously shows skills we have not seen in NFL yet.

  2. Why? Why would the SAME OC, who had "opened up the playbook" the second half of '06, DELIBERATELY decide to close it down again? Why? Seriously, this revisionist history is old. The playbook was NOT shut down for JP. It was taken away by defenses that JP had little understanding of how to read and when his first option was gone (Evans) he seldom showed the ability to make proper reads, go through his progressions, and/or make something happen.

Yes, coaching played a part. Yes a terrible supporting cast contributed, especially at the other skill positions. And yes, once Edwards was inserted, the coaches simplified things which is the sensible thing to do when going with a rookie.

But the VAST majority of JP's failures fall at his own feet. He didn't have the ability to make adjustments when defenses took away his bread and butter. I wish I had a nickle for every time he audibled into the WRONG play. It got so bad that Fairchild had to tell him to stop audibling. Something he had free reign to do in '06 (those bombs to Evans against Houston were both audibles). That's not shutting down the playbook, that's protecting a QB who is pressing. And JP pressed a LOT under the pressure of losing his position. Then he promptly choked when it was his job to win again.

Lets just wish him luck and hope that he's learned the game a bit more. That he can let the game come to him a bit.

But lets also stop this idea the Fairchild and Co. deliberately changed an offense that JP began to blossom in the year before. That makes NO sense at all. And it is simply not true.

    GO BILLS!!!

    +1

  3. Ok, so you're arguing he sucks, and I'm arguing he hasn't been utilized properly. His performance as a punt returner suggests there's a good bit of talent there, so I'll just leave it at that. We'll find out soon enough who is right.

Good punt returner (Roscoe wasn't even good at that last season btw) does not necessarily equal good WR.

  4. Please don't bring him in...I can't stand him as much as Edwards makes me ill Russell is hard to like.

The problem is if they did he would beat Edwards out too and no Jauron to over rule

Although Edwards certainly has not looked good here, he is nowhere near as bad as Jamarcus.

  5. 1997: Switzer is the HC. Bickering between him and Aikman and others. They are 6-5 when they get bit by the injury and bickering bugs and lose the last 5. But still on paper have a pretty good team.

1998: In steps Chan the man. Inherits a pretty strong team. Goes 10-6 which is mildly under-achieving with that team but respectable compared to the previous season. Heavily favored in the first round of the playoffs and loses (and admits it was due to his coaching).

1999: Still Chan the man at the helm. Team takes a turn for the worse. Goes 8-8 and somehow manages to sneak into the playoffs (weak division). Loses in the first game again.

Were the 1998-1999 Boys a "pretty strong team" ? Or was it a team in rapid decline?

  6. ...they brought in Boldin who has been a locker room LEADER in arizona...the only issue he had there was he wanted to be paid like a number 1 reciever isntead of a number 3...understandable....they brought in another character guy in LT...had an odd draft....but I dont see where their lockerroom blows up...they have leaders all over that locker room, including a strong HC personality to keep people real....

Very interesting. Boldin got traded to the Ravens last time I checked...

  7. .. by simply calling Jon Gruden and asking who to take.

I just re-watched the Gruden QB special where he sits down with Bradford, Clausen, McCoy, and Tebow - watching film and talkin football with all of them. He even took Tebow out and worked him out.

A SB winning HC who is a toal QB guru/junkie is given one on one access to ALL of the top guys, watches all their tape, finds out what they are all about, and even gets a private workout. He got the interview of a lifetime with every one of them. What else do you need? If the Bills are not taking advantage of that they are a bunch of idiots.

Buddy, call up Gruden and just ask who he would take!

So exactly which QBs did Gruden develop such that he merits the term "QB guru" ?

  8. Jason Taylor has signed for two years with the New York Jets. Another good signing for the division rival Jets. Coupled with the Pats signing Torry Holt today, the Bills just keep falling farther and farther out of any dream for competing in the division. Seems like every other day, someone from the AFC East, besides Buffalo makes a good signing improving themselves. Gonna be a long year for the Buffalo faithful.

How can signing an lb who is well past his prime be something that would help the Bills?

  9. With a lockout looming for 2011 I fear this is it for the Bills in Buffalo. That is not to say a non-NFL league won't put a franchise in Buffalo given the fan base. So it may not be the end of professional football in Buffalo. How is it going to feel to have Chan Gailey and Trent Edwards as the final HC and QB? To go from Saban/Kemp, Knox/Ferguson, and then to Marv/Kelly to this shat is unbearable. Billy Shaw, Joe Delamaluire, Reggie McKenzie, Jim Ritcher and we end up with the Tutan Reyes' and Derrick Dockery's this past decade. There are only a couple current players worthy of being mentioned on an all Bills team - a punter, a kicker, and maybe the second best DE in history. I just wonder how we all will approach the final games of 2010?

Are you the second coming of DarthIce?

  10. Sorry to be a jerk but when the hell are people going to get the clue that the exception doesn't invalidate the rule? Seriously! I'll go with the draft a QB before o-line if you can find me a 6'5" 241lb first round talent QB who is half as tough as Big Ben. I assume some jackass already brought up the other exception, Aaron Rogers. He had 3 - 4 years on the bench to learn the game before being thrust into a starting role and his and his teams play improved appreciably after the "talk" where they discussed o-line play and getting rid of the ball earlier.

PLEASE do not try to use these examples to say we don't need a line first. It's the same weak ass argument that people try to make for drafting late round QBs because one team, NE, has struck gold in the last 40 years doing so.

Ummm. That post was really meant to point out the flawed perception that Pittsburgh has a great O line.

I never said anything about the need to draft a QB first. I am more a supporter of those who believe that the you need to build quality lines first to have a shot at winning.

  11. good points...but as to sanchez and big ben...remember that the Jets has used two drafts to upgrade their offensive line before drafting sanchez. D'brick, Mangold, the acquisition of Fanaca were major upgrades (as well as getting some very good running backs) that helped Sanchez become successful. Pittsburgh always had good offensive line and good smashmouth runners, so Big ben was successful partially as a result of all the pieces being there when he came in.

Is Pittsburgh's O line really good? Don't they have major pass protection issues? I seem to recall that in the past 2 seasons, Big Ben has taken quite a beating from the pass rushers of the opposing team. I think a large part of the success of the Steeler's passing games is due to Ben's toughness and ability to shrug off a potential sack and make a good throw.

  12. Was roddy white good when he had joey harrington or how bout byron leftwitch or better yet chris redman??? UMMMM NO...he just happend to find how to play in his 5th year and hell he's not top 5 receiver he's good better than his rookie year when mike was there...not to mention peerless price was there was he good? i know you know bout that guy, so its mikes fault he wasnt good? and how can you say they got better when he left? did they get to the nfc championship game yet? I THINK NOT..so until they get there or to the superbowl your quote is highly invalid...and if im not mistaken didnt mike get CHEERED into the game and didnt he get CHEERED when he SCORED WITH A NEW TEAM ON HIS OLD TEAM IN ATLANTA..I think I may have imaged that or something *sarcasm*

Wow. Its fitting that you have Lynch as your avatar and handle. You write like him. I can't understand what your point is because of the extremely poor sentence construction and preponderance of run on sentences.

  13. Below are Vick's career passing stats from Atlanta from ESPN website. Would you really call him a good QB? He seems to have very pedestrian numbers for a QB. Career completion percentage is below 60% . No season with over 3000 yards passing. And a career passer rating below 80.

  14. How good was the Bills line last year? Is that Kugler's fault or the fault of talent evaluators who fielded the team? Did they have injuries? Did the QB hold the ball too long? Charles ran for 1500 yards. Their line wasn't all bad. Step down off the ledge.

  15. Dexter McCluster and Myron Rolle...those are my 2 sleeper/surprise players in this draft.

I bet they are both studs at the next level...especially Myron Rolle.

Is Myron Rolle actually going to play football at the pro level? I thought he had some academic aspirations like being a doctor / medical researcher?
