Not to turn this into a discussion on the free market (key word: FREE), but why shouldn't someone make as much money as they can so long as they are not breaking laws to do it? Granted, I understand that the divide between the "have's" and the "have not's" is growing, but do we really want a communist system, whereby everyone gets a set amount of money- no matter their ability? I don't know what you do for work Joe. But if you were the best darn electrician at a company- head and shoulders above everyone else- shouldn't you be compensated better than some Schmoe who is always late, is terrible w/customers, barely knows his job, comes to work drunk, etc? And I am not speaking of somebody who is rich here (I don't know what I'd do if I was a millionaire- let alone a MULTI millionaire). But your hinting that executives are "fat cats" (Obamaspeak), and therefore worthy of scorn is a little on the socialist side. Doesn't a CEO deal with more than, say a janitor at an auto plant? Shouldn't you be compensated for your skill and ability, rather than just imprisoned by a restrictive system?

I could not agree more that the sheer volume of dollars being talked about here are grotesque (i.e.- from another dimension, uncanny, etc). No player is worth that, and the game cannot support those kind of salaries. No game can. But, that is kinda the point, ain't it? Reach the pros, and it's not about "the game" anymore. Its a profession. Kill or be killed. Laws of the jungle. Atleast that's from a players perspective (or so I've heard). I don't that there is anything wrong with making a living for yourself, and if your talent is so rare that you are the top in your profession that you should be paid according to what the market will allow. I also look at movie stars, and when they gross something like $20-30 million for 1 movie, 1 freakin' movie w/maybe 4 months of "work" and no threat to their life or health (like professional athletes), and I say more power to them. But at some level, with the rest of the world sinking in recessions, and riots, and protests, and devaluing of cash, lay-offs, etc...how is it that these major issues are not shown in the entertainment industry? Speaking of the bigger picture, are we all like the ostrich; just sticking our heads in the proverbial sand while being besieged with entertainment to deny the very stiff realities that we are finding ourselves more, and more faced with on a daily basis? I don't think greed is the correct judgement. I think, looking at the bigger picture, if you can't afford your rent or mortgage, you shouldn't be supporting Revis', either. If you can't pay your phone bill, you should not be buying "gear". If you can't put food on the table or are on welfare, owning a jersey should be the farthest thing from any realistic thought. After all, aren't we, the fans, the ones who give our dollars to this cause? Don't we support the market that builds the "pie" that players like Revis keep wanting to take a bigger piece out of? I used to have this old shop teacher in high school that used to say "every time you point the finger at somebody, there are 4 more pointing back at you". Instead of pointing the finger at Revis for wanting to be paid according to his ability, maybe you should ask why you keep supporting the very ability for him to even fathom the thought.

And? I hate to be the one to say this, but getting 4 really good players on the field while the other 18 stink is not much to trumpet. Unless, ofcourse, you are using sarcasm here and I have greatly misunderstood and therefore commend you on your witty banter.

I can see why people are quick to bury Maybin
Red replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That link says it all. He doesn't get it. Just like when he shaved that stupid frohawk, or when he jumped up and down like an idiot when he made a tackle. A tackle. And then did it again. And again. Then there's the holdout. Now we look at that sight and see all of this garbage about being a player, 110%, blah, blah, blah. I don't think you should have a website until you actually have earned the right to have something to say. What has Maybin done so far? He should be keeping his mouth shut, and let his play speak for itself. And I wouldn't be using Mr. Whitner as an example, either. This is the same goofball who keeps saying the Bills will be in the playoffs this year, etc. Gailey could do worse by stapling both Whitners and Maybins mouths shut and taking away their ability to text. -
Finally something positive on the Bills
Red replied to Roc Bronson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who's Kyle Davis? -
OK, two counterpoints: 1.) Football is America's game now. We are starved for it this time of the year, and any piece of flub will do (I speak as one of the drones). 2.) You sound like one of those morons who goes to see a movie because it's "SOLD OUT TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!! THE #1 MOVIE IN AMERICA" etc, etc. Dude, let me clear something up for you. Ratings, like ticket sales, have absolutely nothing to do with whether a program/movie/book etc are worth a darn. Just because all of us football starved fans are like a puberty filled sixteen year old boy looking through the window at a Victoria Secrets store does not mean there is any action to be had. If everyone in America flocks to buy crap...in the end...it's still crap.

I hear ya. Kinda like that guy who said he is starting to like the CFL....

Bill Walsh had confidence in Trent Edwards
Red replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. One Trent's side, he has had no offensive line since he has been playing, has had no offensive identity or philosophy, has not had any supporting cast, and was thrown into the fire in his first game against the Tom Brady Bills nemesis Patriots in New England. He's been seriously injured not once, but twice due to poor offensive line talent, and seems a bit gun-shy because of it. Similar to Tim Connolly of the Sabres. Trent though, I think can recover. On the negative side, he has had some time to demonstrate something, and other than when he came in that first year in relief of Losman, he has not shown too much. And as others have mentioned, Walsh was not infallible. He was human. We all can make mistakes. I think this year will be the determining factor in Trent's future with the Bills. I hope he succeeds. -
It's really sad to see. When he was in that contract year with the Titans and playing his 350 lb butt off, the question was raised of it was only for the money, and that once Fat Al got the benjamins, he'd be sandbagging it. I think we all now know the answer to that one. What a disgrace to sports. I don't know how you can have absolutely no shame. I don't know what 1 million dollars looks like, but 100? An absolute statement about what is wrong with professional sports. Disgusting. The proper thing to do would be to return the money. If he will not give the Redskins what they paid for, then he needs to return it. Return it, or perform up to the standards that won you that contract, dirt bag.

Poor question. The offense was entirely based on a hurry-up, quick tempo, attacking offense that had a set number of plays designed into it. The QB was the chief driver of the offense on game day, except for in the red zone. Kelly ran the offense on the field.

Cornell Green on his way to the locker room
Red replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, I just don't care for fanboy rumor mongering. So he was carted off? And? What was accomplished with that "news" flash? The nature of the reason for being carted off is not known. We are no better off than when we started. In fact, I would argue that we are worse off because now we will all be wondering what the heck happened. -

Did Russ Brandon admit that the Bills may move to Toronto?
Red replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is quite a tough thing to predict. I'm tired of all of the Bills-to-LA stuff, so please knock it off. It ain't gonna happen. As far as Toronto is concerned, it is close enough that the Bills don't have to move. But, in that situation only so many residents of Toronto will make that voyage every weekend. The NFL is trying to go global with its product (games in Japan, England, Mexico, Canada), but I don't think it is ready for that yet. The thing about Toronto, though, is that it is something like the 5th largest city in North America, and it is only some 1.5 hours from NY. It is not a 3rd world country like Mexico, English is spoken (albeit- they sure do say 'boat' funny). That is alot of $$$$ up north, and Russ may be playing the part of marketing stooge just to sweet talk the Canadiens into believing he's moving soon. Ever think of that? He's keeping options open while hoping to entice more money to flow into the Bills coffers? Anyways, if the Bills were to ever move anywhere, they would no longer be my team and I would probably stop paying much attention to the NFL. Atleast not enough to pay hundreds of dollars per year on merchandise and Sunday Ticket. -
Thankfully, it is just an opinion. As I already mentioned, the only poor coaching was when the Giants were in a 7 defensive back defense, and we kept trying to throw. And I think that had more to do with Kelly than with Marv. It was poor adapting on the Bills part. Other than that, I can remember atleast 3 big plays where the defense forgot how to tackle, and allowed the G-Men to convert on 3rd and 17, etc, thus continuing their long, methodical, drive to points and to run time off of the clock. Hardly an amazing coaching job. Rather, the Giants played to survive the game (by keeping Kelly off of the field), and the Bills offense did not adapt to the defensive scheme.

Ah, man...this is a ridiculous "which came first" argument. I heard it also said in an NFL films quote from some idiot Sports Illustrated writer. He was saying how much the Bills of the 90's were overrated because the AFC was so weak. Talk about disdain. He then went on to trumpet how the 49ers are the greatest, blah, blah, blah. Now, it could be said that, using his "logic", the 49ers were simply not a good team because the rest of the NFL was so bad. I mean, it's a total garbage argument. Does anyone say that the Patriots are a fluke because of their ownership of the league for the past decade? Now, as far as your Levy points...to say that he is overrated is akin to believing in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Lockness Monster. I will agree, in SB 25 (let's ged rid of the centuries old roman numerals, already), when the Giants are in a 7 defensive back/ 2 down lineman set, we should have been pounding Thurman instead of squeezing it into Reed and Lofton. But, we also ran an offense called the 'K-Gun', and Jim Kelly was the general until we got in the Red Zone. Therefore, is Marv really the culprit, or should Kelly have been calling more runs? Using your logic on the roster and GM, then the Colts must also be in no need of a head coach, either. They have Manning and Polian, so why do they need a head coach? Tony Dungy must be overrated then, too.

Cornell Green on his way to the locker room
Red replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No offense, but do we really need every second updates? "This just in...Marcus Stroud running from the practice field to the bathroom...rumor is that he has a bad case of Montezuma's revenge. Hope he is ok" I mean, C'MON! -
Thank you. And when you read the empty political decision by boneheads in Albany to place UB in Amherst, when it was all voted, approved, and designed to go on the waterfront...it confirms the horrific representation NY has had for decades.

Your math is way off. The concerts are for the summer months. June-August. Bills will be there August-December. That's a solid 7 months per year. Now the only issue is Jan-May, but most stadiums are empty during these months.

Do you think Nix would like to beat the Redskins?
Red replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Living in DC, I will be watching the Redskins this year. Prior to this past offseason, the Bills and Redskins were mirror images of each other this past decade. The only difference being one owner (Snyder) liked to spend ridiculously on the roster and the other (Wilson) liked to pinch pennies. Regardless of the spending differences, the overall front office structure and results on the field for the past decade had both of these teams striking as rather identical. I will be looking to see which franchise made the better moves. Washington went big time: they signed Bruce Allen, Shanahan, traded for McNabb, and traded for a big-time LT. They also signed burner Willie Parker. Washington could be dramatically better this season. The Bills on the other hand took the long road. They signed Nix, brought in Gailey to run the team, revamped the strength department, and made some modest free agent signings and some good draft picks. Nothing sensational. Both teams, IMO, made moves to solidify their futures. But Washington also did more to improve themselves today. They had holes at LT and QB, and addressed both of them amazingly well. The Bills left both holes wide open at QB and LT...and IMO may be to the detriment to the team. I like Trent, but I don't like Fitz. He's done all he can, he's hit his ceiling. He's not going to be improving. I like Jeff Garcia, as he has rocked everywhere he has been (except Cleveland). We need a LT badly, as I don't think Bell or Meredith can hold down the fort. It will be interesting to watch which team is better. -
Go To Camp and see for Yourself,Edwards is WAY BETTER!
Red replied to Driffill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm with you on this, too. Fitz is just does not have what it takes. I think now with all of the money left on the table from Schobel, the Bills should get Jeff Garcia as insurance and make a trade for a big time LT. IMO, this would shore up the roster. -
Ah, forget about kneeling to make others happy (unless you are praying ) I'm a bit saddened because he was perhaps one of maybe, 3 or 4 draft picks made by the Bills in the past decade that actually became sensational at their position. He worked his arse off for us, and he got a big fat nothing to show for it. Now, I know he got paid. Yip-dee-doo. He never played in the playoffs and never tasted a Super Bowl. So, I can't blame him for wanting out of yet another rebuilding effort (though methinks this one may be for real); since his whole career has been nothing but one rebuild after another. And after 10 years of loyalty and sacrifice, I would want something to show for it. Atleast 1 or 2 playoff berths would have sufficed. I'm greatly disappointed with the Bills and for us fans- because we deserve a player like him at every position. I wish we could have had something here with him on the team. With that being said, I wish him the best and hope that he gets to taste the playoffs with whatever team he plays for next year. I'd be bummed for us if he went to New England. If he went to Houston I'd be happier for him (and could breath easier). I wish him the best wherever he plays.

A lot of good pointers here. I agree that at 10 years old, it should be all about fun. Let the coaches coach, is a good one, too. All too often we see (and hear) these ridiculous parents who think they are the coach, they just need to step aside and realize that as a parent, you are setting an example. Please don't be one of those knuckleheads that think they know better. As far as the running, John from Hemet had good pointers. '3 points of the football' is good. Close to the body is even better. Carry the ball away from defenders if possible(i.e.- tackler coming from the right you would prefer to have that ball in your left hand/arm- away from the defender). Two hands on the ball and tight to the body when running in traffic. Cradle that arm as advised by others with the point of the ball squeezed in the fingers and the body of the ball close to his body/ribs/side. Don't use the ball for leverage and to run faster- don't keep it far away from the body. This makes one fumble prone. The NFL Network just had Marshall Faulk talking about this, as even sensational RB Adrian Peterson in Minnesota suffered with fumble-itis because of holding the ball too far from his body. Mouthpiece info above is good. As far as gloves are concerned, at 10 years old I would be more concerned with learning how to catch and hold a ball withOUT gloves. Granted, in freezing rain October/ November in WNY gloves certainly feel better, but he should be learning the fundamentals right now and it does not get more basic than catching and holding a football while being pursued and tackled and under pressure. They look nice on TV, but at this point, let him have fun while learning the fundamentals.

None of those other teams- perhaps with the exception of the Patriots- make any sense. Schobel, at this point in his career, is motivated by 2 things: family/ health/ fun and winning the Super Bowl. His family lives in Houston, Bill Kollar would be his coach, and he went to TCU. The first part would be accomplished and he would be having fun again w/his family close by. The Patriots are intriguing for all of the points mentioned in the article, but ALSO because they would provide the best chance for Schobel to hoist a Lombardi trophy before he fades off into the sunset for good. And Belicheck does like to get former Patriot killers to come play for him, and I have read where the Patriots offensive lineman were breathing a collective sigh of relief of not having to block Schobel anymore if he did not come back in 2010. He was one of the few Bills to give them trouble, and they all respected him and his work ethic. I could see him going to New England, too. But the Titans, Falcons, etc are ludicrous. He may want to finish strong and make football fun again before retiring, but no other team makes sense besides the Bills, Texans, and possibly the Patriots.

"Brohm has a good day".... ...and I have gas. The unfortunate news for Brohm is that both pass.
