  1. As a sidebar and sorry if it's already been pointed out elsewhere, Chan Gailey is listed as the #2 offensive coordinator in the league. http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/article/20...kings-cams-best I'm not particularly in favor of moving to the 3-4, even though Stroud just came out saying that we would play anywhere, even as a NT ... we don't have a true NT on the roster. Which means that we'd have to pick up two, the starter and a backup as well. Bates had a great rep until he flamed with the Broncs and Bucs, he runs a 4-3 but his run contain defense requires very specific personnel in order to work. We don't have the people, either, though you'd think it might be easier to pick up LBs rather that NTs in this league. I'm not particularly thrilled with any of the guys out there ... obviously the more successful DCs have jobs already. If they act according to what they've said, look for the new DC to be an effective and proven teacher. This points away from some up and coming assistant. It is kindof strange that Bob Sanders hasn't found a spot anywhere, most of the staff has already found places. He is a 4-3 guy, good teacher, lousy HC but a decent DC. Certainly would be no sizzle with that hiring, though.
  2. Sigh. Yeah, all good points but you can't draft a coach or pick one up in FA ... the team has never paid top $$$ for coaches/GM. Not that there aren't alot of bad-to-average, overpaid coaches out there also. I believe that RW was willing to give it a shot a few years ago when he gave Donahoe the reins to the team ... that turned out so poorly, it just kinda feels like he's given up shooting for a championship and is willing to settle for good. And if your goal is simply respectability, your chances of achieving it as reasonable; your chances of winning the SuperBowl are nil.
  3. Hilarious, stalking ... I agree with pretty much all of this, it is pretty much what I've been saying. Birk is a vet who won't put up with any crap, perhaps he can get Dock to play up to his contract again. Peters biggest asset is his speed and footwork, despite his size ... I like our line. There were some issues with the running game mid-season but I think they started to straighten them out, part was the line and playcalling but some also belonged to 23 ... he seemed to dance and not his the holes quickly enough. Run blocking is much easier than pass blocking ... our OC was a rook too, I expect much more out of our offense next year. Lol, I hope experience will make a difference, because I'm not sure they'll be doing much to help the offense in FA or the draft. Last point, this is a deep year for centers in this draft, yeah everyone loves Mack but it'd be better to pick up a center later and have them learn under Birk ... there's no way a talented rook center steps in and does a better job than even an average vet center. Mangold wasn't very good his first few years.
