While there is a lot of good info here on the upcoming decision I think some of the stats are skewed because of his lack of WR talent. There were parts of the season where Justin Hunter was his best option because Clay, Woods and Watkins were all out/hurt. As a QB if you are trying to convert a 3rd down you are going to hold the ball longer waiting for a WR to come open and if you don't have WR's capable of doing that then you are going to take more sacks and convert less.

This is our ticket - Vikings trade-down
Hyphe23 replied to BillsFan3434's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking about this a little more (and I'll be transparent I've been the one posting that I really like the idea of us trading back to 23) and thought it would be interesting to look at who picks between 8 and 23 that we would be worried about taking a QB. Here is what I came up with: 9) NYJ - Could pick one, but I think most people expect them to fill one of their many other holes. 10) TEN - Have Jake Locker, likely wouldn't pick one. 11) SD - Have Phillip Rivers, likely wouldn't pick one. 12) MIA - Drafted Tannehill last year, won't pick one here. 13) TB - Have Josh Freeman, seriously doubt they would pick one. 14) CAR - Cam Newton, enough said. 15) NO - Drew Brees, yeah.... 16) STL - Sam Bradford, they won't draft one. 17) PIT - Ben Roethlisberger, they won't draft one. 18) DAL - Tony Romo, did you see the deal they just gave him? 19) NYG - Eli Manning, yeah... 20) CHI - Jay Cutler, they won't draft one, not here at least. 21) CIN - Andy Dalton, I personally don't think they would draft one, but there have been rumors about them not being too happy with Dalton (I live in Cincinnati so I hear a lot more of it) 22) STL - See above comment In fact the next logical team to take a QB would seem to be Jacksonville at 33, which would mean they would have to trade up at least 11 spots to get ahead of us for a QB if we made this trade. I guess my only point from all of this is that I'm not all that concerned with any QB's being taken before the end of round 1 unless its us or another team that has to move up quite a bit. -
Here we go again. Useless negativity without actually reading the post. Like I said it was a scenario I ran through another site. I did not rank the players, and I even said that you could swap out other QBs for Geno because I didnt think he would be there. The point was that we could still get our first round QB and address a lot of other positions of need by making this trade. You could easily get Nassib, Manuel or Barkley there at 23. Make it Robert Woods at 41 (since you are taking this so literally) and swap out Mathieu for someone like BW Webb.

Just for fun I thought I would do a simulation with us trading all the way back to 23 w/ Minnesota so they could jump up and get Tavon Austin. I tried to be modest in what we could get in return by taking only 23, their 2nd rounder and their 4th rounder. 23 - Geno Smith - QB (I personally don't think he'll be there, but the simulation also still had Barkley, Nassib and Manuel available so take your pick) 41 - Justin Hunter - WR 52 - Sam Montgomery - OLB 71 - Sean Porter - ILB 105 - Vance McDonald - TE 120 - Tyrann Mathieu - CB 143 - Matt Scott - QB 177 - Kerwynn Williams - RB I don't necessary like all of these players here so I would be open to switching some, but overall it looks like the scenario allows us to fill a lot of need positions with a lot of quality players.

Damond Talbot's Buffalo Bills Mock Draft 2.0
Hyphe23 replied to Damond Talbot's topic in College Football
I know its the most recent report so everyone will react to it now, but I think trading back to 23 with Minnesota (allowing them to jump up and get Austin) would make sense. Here is my reasoning: Buddy said there are 2-3 franchise type quarterbacks, and don't limit him to the 2-3, there could be more in this draft. Buddy usually stays pretty true to his board and I doubt he has Nassib or Barkley as a top 10 talent on his board. Think back to CJ Spiller, RB was not our biggest need, but he loved the talent. Buddy said he wants more picks. The value for this next group of QBs (Barkley, Nassib, Manuel) is around late first round, at 23 we would be ahead of all of the 2nd round picks for teams that need QBs, making it hard for them to move ahead of us. I know a lot of people want us to trade back so I'm sure I'm not alone in this, and maybe I am being optimisitic, but the value chart says we could get Minnesota's 2nd and 3rd to move back to 23. Even if it was only a 2nd and a 4th I would probably do it. -
Have they brought in Millner for a visit? I like Millner and I would be fine with that as a pick, I just haven't seen them bring in any CBs outside of the Honey Badger, so my gut feeling is they won't use a high draft pick on a CB.
-
Based on the visitors we have brought in, I have to imagine that we will end up with a QB, WR, and LB in the first three rounds, somehow. I know there has been a lot of clamoring for OG with the loss of Levitre and Rinehart, but I think that the Bills have other plans for OG since they have not brought in a single OG for visits. Personally I would love to see us trade back to later in the first round and pick up an extra pick because I think we have too many holes right now, but I think based on our needs, combined with who we have brought in for visits, these will be the first 3 positions we see the Bills draft. Thoughts?
-
I agree with you completely. Just as a question to everyone who has been saying they think Michael Johnson will be a bust, why do you all think that? I honestly dont know a whole lot about him but I thought he was supposed to be a pretty quick edge rusher.
-
I actually like Oher a lot, I think heis the third best OT prospect in this draft. If we do take a OT in the first round though I wouldnt assume that they are going to be our LT. I am willing to bet that no matter what Langston Walker slides to LT next year and we insert someone else at RT, at least for next year. You dont want any rookie protecting your QB's blind side.
-
They have us taking: 1) Michael Oher - OT - Ole Miss 1B) Brandon Pettigrew - TE - Oklahoma St. 2) Michael Johnson - DE - Georgia Tech 3) Kevin Barnes - CB - Maryland I dont know enough about Barnes but I think we would be better off going interior line or linebacker in the third if this is the scenario. What do you all think of this draft though?

Who is Cutler going to throw the ball to???
Hyphe23 replied to BWRiley585's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The rumor I heard from my friends in Chicago is that they are going to try and go after Holt. Take it for what you will though because I dont keep up with Bears rumors. -
So in response to this, say the best player available is Everette Brown, who I like. Would you rather have Everette Brown and say Max Unger, or would you rather have Pettigrew, Mack and Connor Barwin? I agree with you to an extent on best available but I would prefer the second scenario.

I agree with everyone who has said that Detroit SHOULD hold onto both of those picks. However if they are to draft Curry or Jason Smith with the first overall pick then they could get a QB like Sanchez at #11 for significantly less money than a #1 overall QB would make. I actually think it would be a decent move for them because they would get their QB of the future for less money and they would also get a LB or OL #1 overall.
-
Good call, I obviously didnt investigate the 5th rounder enough, I was merely pointing out that i think that would be a good way to address 3 need positions with relatively high picks. I tihnk Detroit might want to do this to if Sanchez fell to that spot.
-
Buffalo Sends to Detroit: 11th Overall 3rd Rounder Buffalo Receives: 20th Overall 33rd Overall 5th Rounder I looked at the trade chart and it seems like this deal would work. Also it makes a little sense if a QB is still sitting there at 11 and Detroit goes a different direction at #1 Overall. Would you like this trade? I think if this worked out we could address DE, OL and TE in the first two rounds of the draft, which are all high need positions.
-
Not that it really says much because apparently all 32 teams were at Cincinnati today, according to my friend who works for the UC athletic department. That being said Barwin ran a 4.48 40, he is a little undersized but a heck of a speed rusher. I tried to get my friend to ask our scout if we could go DE in the second round, where Barwin is projected, and possibly trade Peters and go OT with the 11th pick, unfortunately he didnt get a chance to ask him though.
-
According to PFT the Patriots followed up the Springs signing with Leigh Bodden. I still like our WR's in that matchup, I just thought it was interesting how they responded to our signing.
-
Didnt he say that one of the reasons he didnt fire Jauron was because he blamed on the level of talent we put on the field? To me that would have signaled the need for at least one major move this offseason through FA or Trade. So far we have a backup QB, a third corner and a former backup offensive lineman who we want to start for us.

Seriously.... Whos worth our 11th pick?
Hyphe23 replied to The_Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I realize that it is a different style of defense and naturally there will be more pressure coming from the linebackers, but I do have to agree that we could use a playmaking linebacker, I just dont think its one of our biggest needs. I was the one who put up the original post saying that I thought the only two players talented enough worth taking at 11 that might still be around are Maulaluga and Raji. I wouldnt be mad if we took either of them, I just think we have bigger needs. -

Hyphe23 replied to The_Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only Maulaluga or Raji would be worth that pick to me, but we have bigger need positions than DT and LB. But they would be the top talent I expect to be there that would be of some use to us. If we get rid of McCargo in a trade maybe Raji makes more sense. -
If we traded Peters than our franchise would look bad
Hyphe23 replied to jax bill backer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who exactly are these Pro Bowl people that you speak of? Its fan voting and most fans dont know how good an offensive lineman is unless 1) they were voted in last year (Peters) 2) they watch that team on a consistent basis, and pay attention to who is blocking well, and know a lot about football in able to understand the difference between a good lineman and a bad one. I'm going to lean towards the fact that people had heard his name before, because based on what I saw this year with the false start and holding penalties, and basically being a rotating door to any good DE, he is not a Pro Bowler. -
I had debated making it with Philly for their first first rounder and their second, which would be a little more realistic based on what they would be giving up, but I couldnt figure out what Philly would be moving up for. Any ideas?

Hyphe23 replied to jax bill backer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is completely different than Drury and Briere. Both of them were soon to be free agents, Jason Peters held out before entering the 3rd season that he had left in his contract. Not to mention the Bills took a chance on him twice, once as a undrafted free agent and then again when they gave him a rather large contract for only having one year of offensive lineman experience. There was a very interesting article on ESPN.com where they talked to Football Agents about the Peters holdout at the beginning of the year. They all said that Peters was in the wrong for trying to take advantage of a franchise that took a chance on him and developed him. Either way I think his poor play was effected by his selfish holdout last season and could have cost the Bills a couple of games. Possibly the playoffs. I bet he holds out again, and once again he will be a liability next season if we dont give him a new contract.
