What will Jerry Sullivan whine about?
Pat7s replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not a journalist he's an opinion columnists... and you're talking about him so he's done his job perfectly. THat's why they pay him kids. That being said, I think he'll B word about Fewel running up the score and not playing guys like Hardy and Brohm who might have a future here in order to try and brighten up his resume for tomorrow when he interviews. -
In fairness. 10 years of Bad football, uncertainty about ownership, the Toronto thing, a piss poor economy, and the fact it's winter in full effect in Buffalo sort of builds some of them to this point. I don't blame them really... winning would cure all... THANK GOD FOR THE SABRES right now.
-
I hope you're joking too... I mean using that point then Lynch stunted Jackson's development because of the time he got in previous years simply because he's a first rounder from a larger college.
-
It amazes me he managed to get 1000 despite the terrible offense... it makes me wonder what would happen if they actually gave him the ball more consistently every game and had a decent o-line. He looks like a mini version of Thurman out there: 1. He waits for his blockers, lets them stumble over each other and manages 2-4 yards out of nothing. Thurman did that all the time but with lineman that didn't stumble mover each other and he's get 6-8 yards. 2. He's shifty, but can power when necessary 3. He can catch out of the backfield Lynch seems to not have the vision Fred has, as he's always running into his lineman. Plus he never seems as shifty. I really hope they keep Fred Jackson next year as the starter... thoughts?

Carucci: Bills / Cowher meeting was not substantive
Pat7s replied to ThreeBillsDrive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
John posts just to post. He pretty much lives in his mom's basement and has no life. I mean dude, if you're right more power to you, but you constantly post stuff on ever topic so naturally you're going to be right about something at some point, but that method makes you a douche... who lives in his mother's basement. So when you stop doing that, I'll leave the personal insults out of it and everyone else might take you seriously. -
Bills interviewing Marty's son for HC
Pat7s replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope he would bring a lot more than Leon Washington dude... that's a terrible reason to want him as coach. Good point on the rookie QB though. -
Bush cutting brush and goofing off for weeks at a time lost us our economy. But screw the economy and our rights to privacy and all that stuff so long as we remain scared to death of these a-hole terrorist. Yeah, that's great logic sport. Here's some more of your great logic: Obama is a bad president because he played golf while people died over seas in countries where people die every day for the same crap they died of today.... right, sure, why not. I mean during times of war people die and if he was eating dinner at the time when someone died then by God he's a horrible person. Your logic is the same as asking why did the guy sleep last night while someone overseas shot at our troops. Do me a favor OK? never vote... ever. Not because you'll vote for a Republican... that's not my problem. Your logic is so stupid here that I would rather you not vote or ever put together a single political thought again. So... yeah, comment on the Bills instead. If this same logic you use holds up on this topic then you will want to trade Josh Reed for Peyton Manning right?
-
We're going to see a lot of this now. Just because they are talking to him doesn't mean he's first on their list, but you all know that. It would be a slap in the face for them to hire a guy with no head coaching experience after what Nix highlighted in his press conference the other day. That is, of course, unless there simply are no good experienced coaches out there willing to come to Buffalo, which is possible.

Schopp just admits that it's personal with the Bills
Pat7s replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the 1 millionth time.... Mike Schopp, as well as Jerry Sullivan and every one else over at WGR who have talk shows are paid to give their opinions, biased or not. Why is this shocking? They aren't there to be credible news men because they aren't. They give opinions about sports, that's there job. You don't have to like their opinions or their their show, but they are paid to tell you what they think, be it right or wrong. I'm so tired of you people with this. They are NOT SPORTS JOURNALISTS, they never were. they are sports opinion columnists... a MAJOR difference. They inject what ever they want and that's why you listen to them, because it's interesting or at least makes you upset. Now if Paul Hamilton, who is a sports journalist/beat reporter, said that I could understand the issue because he is paid to give only a report about what he sees and hears. There is a HUGE difference. -
Bills press conference @2:30-Nix confirmed as new GM
Pat7s replied to zdro22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL That is brilliant, honestly couldn't have said it better myself. I'm cool with Nix... not Modrak but Nix is a good call. We need a guy like him making real football decisions... after all he's been around long enough to know what talent is LOL. -
Peyton Manning would suck in this offense (sorry VP, maybe next time as an o-coordinator, but this year ain't working). We won't know about Brohm until a new head coach comes in and we get some GD people to block for him.

I read this and felt my response should be a different topic rather than rant on this topic's thread... I see a lot of people on this board talk of signing guys to be mentors to players who are young and not budding quickly. This week its Maybin, over the summer it was Hardy (via TO), there have been several suggestions in the past to bring in mentor QB's for Trent... you get my drift. My question is: does anyone really think professional athletes who make millions of dollars and ultimately say what the team and NFLPA trains them to say really care about being a mentor to others in this league? No. They don't want to be, and I think most players are interested in one thing: starting. That's why they got here in the first place, because everywhere they have played they've been better than everyone else there. Does it happen from time to time that players come in as mentors? Of course, it's not impossible. It is however very unlikely. It's a pride thing if nothing else. Asking a player to be a mentor means, "hey we like you a lot, you may be able to help us from time to time on the field, but really you've lost a step or 12 and we just want to have you be a team guy." It's nice way of saying your career is all but over... which no one wants to here. They want to play, because that's what they know how to do... not be someone's buddy and knowledgeable elder. Besides, people who do become mentors while still being players are at the END of their career, not getting toward the end, and don't want to spend every day with their wife... To me it's best if we stop thinking of free agents to bring in as mentors. Not only for the fact they most likely aren't interested in being that, but also because it's the coaching staff's job to be mentors, which we clearly do not have on this team. A coach by definition is a mentor, teacher, motivator and authority figure all in one... it's THEIR job to train, mentor and motivate Maybin and everyone else on the team.

That's a good topic actually: what qualifies as a success at this point? Well, the o-line sucks, so really you can't expect a 300 yard game (Not that you are, you're just saying that would be nice, I agree). I don't qualify his stats necessarily as a success because of the o-line. I'll watch to see if he's looking to make the right play vs. the smart play (getting it down field vs. checking down). I'll look to see if he tries to make the throws and trusts his receivers instead of being nervous about throwing picks, and in the process how accurate he is. I'll look to see if he has good arm strength and if he can stand in the pocket... and when the line collapses after 3 seconds if he can occasionally make an impossible throw to make something happen... apparently he can do this BTW. Rookies screw up though, so I expect picks and sacks and bad decisions... so most of all I qualify success by how he acts as the leader of the football team on Sunday. Does he show emotion? Does he get in his o-line's face when they repeatedly fail to block and fail to know the snap count? Does he talk to his receivers after every series to work on chemistry? If it's a stupid play does he audible out of it? I need a QB now that doesn't HAVE TO listen to the coaching staff and goes by his winning instinct. AVP and every other OC and Head coach for that matter that we've had for the past decade or even more has over thought this game time and time again. I need a QB that will simplify it, and be smarted than the coaches seeing he's out there and they are not. I've said it before: this franchise has ruined every QB it has touched beginning with Rob Johnson and ending with Trent Edwards because of this supposed system they are restricted to. When is the last time the Bills really trusted a QB with the offense? Drew Bledsoe... and that was the last winning season the Bills had. Enough with easing them into the system, insisting on them being someone they are not, and going through their reads to make the "smart play." Work with the plays he knows, call plays that cater to his strengths, and most of all let the guy loose and stop being afraid to fail. What's the worst that can happen? He throws 5 picks and we lose. So what? I rather see 5 picks thrown trying to get the ball to Lee Evans (remember him?) than to go through "your progressions" and check it down to Fred Jackson who simply can't break 5 tackles. And if he does throw 5 picks, but they were all in an effort to do the right thing, then at least we know he has the balls to be a QB, which is more than anything we have now.

Can we really target one positon ?
Pat7s replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally I want the top offensive or defensive tackle. I'm with 1billsfan in terms of I'm not sold on any of the QB's in this draft. What is the point of drafting a QB when you have no one to protect him? One of the biggest problems the Bills have had is they throw young QB's out there with poor O-Lines, they ultimately make bad mistakes under constant pressure, which screws with their confidence, and the ultimate outcome has been we get captain check-downs. We really have to build the lines on this team first, then draft our QB. In the mean time, I would rather try Brohm and/or keep Fitz until we get a solid O-Line. Or just sign a veteran QB in Free Agency or even trade for one who can at least compete until we get the o-line puzzle solved and can draft a top flight guy. -
He's a hell of a football player. I'm watching and he's just so smart and so freaking athletic... but I really wonder if he'd make it in the NFL. Like they just said.. he's only had 4 (four) 300 yard passing games in his entire career... ouch, I mean we have to throw the ball. I do think it would be interesting to use him in a wildcat-like offense that passes A LOT more often then Miami does. The way the wind blows and weather gets here, think about the advantage we'd have in crappy weather with a QB that can also be a running back.... then again that's a big old hypothetical based on nothing LOL

Report: Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs Looking At Bills Buyout?
Pat7s replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you, he should sell the team while he's still kickin'. That being said, maybe he hasn't put it up for sale because he knows there currently are no owners/ownsership groups that would keep the team in Western New York. Putting the team just "up for sale" opens the flood gates for every billionaire with an interest to throw their names in the hat... I bet Ralph doesn't want that. Think about all the pressure and BS we'd hear from ESPN (and the like) about people wanting to buy it and move it to LA. It would be a constant circus that would have a horrible effect on the players, coaching staff, and especially the fans. Many of you know how it feels to be an employee of a company that is "up for sale." No one is comfortable and production suffers... same thing with pro sports teams (see the Phoenix Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Houston Oilers, etc.). The years those teams were either up for sale and had onwership turmoil they had awful seasons and attendance slumped. Simply put Ralph would be a total jerk to just put the team up for sale and it would be HORRIBLE business to do so. Jacobs is a very successful person. The Bruins have been successful, they just have a tough time winning the big one... so do 29 other teams in the NHL. It kills me to see how some of you dissect Billionaires. They are BILLIONAIRES. Unlike all of us who are hundred-airs on a good day They aren't perfect and certainly make mistakes, but they did not get to where they are financially by losing and not caring about winning ya know? -
Oh and BTW's: Jimmy the whatever... you're right probably right no one cares about that either, but perhaps he had something entertaining to say about that versus the UB Football game in which they lost... yet another downer in the Buffalo football scene which he probably wanted to avoid seeing the Bills are depressing enough and he HAS to talk about them.
-
With respect... no one cares about UB Football until they can put out a consistent winner, which they are far from accomplishing. One winning season doesn't mean anything around here. I love the idea of UB football being a good radio topic: but they aren't. Neither are the Bandits, Knighthawks, Syracuse Orange (unless playing for a national title in basketball or football only), Niagara University, Canisius College, etc. Why? Radio is like owning an ice cream shop. In this shop you have two flavors that sell out all the time (Bills and Sabres). So you stock your freezer with them. Occasionally, you bring out a new flavor and if if sells well you stock more of it. UB Football sold well last year... this year it's tanking. So take it off the shelf. Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying you always give your customer what they want. Yes you throw in something new occasionally, but if it sucks you don't stay with it, because staying with it hurts business and pisses off your customers. Yes, doing NOTHING different also pisses off your customers, but this is the balancing game you play. Buffalo truly does NOT care about any other sports teams right now other than the Bills and Sabres. They don't. End of story. PS: Everyone on this board does not represent everyone who listens. They represent 5%, maybe 10% on a good day, and I'm being generous. That's the real world answer to why Howard could give a crap about the UB game. The BS answer is he doesn't care about what Buffalo sports fans want. Yes he does, or he would never have a job here. He cares what most Buffalo sports fans want, which has nothing, unfortunately, to do with UB Football.

Ya know I've been thinking... Since 1999 we've had one QB who knew what he was doing, and as disappointing as he was it was Drew Bledsoe. Aside from him, we've had Rob Johnson, Alex Van Pelt, Kelly Holcomb, JP Losman, and now Trent Edwards. Johnson had problems with holding the ball too long and either checking down or throwing a bomb. Van Pelt... God Bess him he tried. Kelly Holcomb: Captain Check down, took what defense gave him JP Losman: Long bombs or check down. Also held onto the ball too long Trent Edwards: Captain check down and is holding the ball too long. In college these guys threw down field. I know the pro game is a world of difference, but there can't be a single one of the QB's we had, excluding Van Pelt and Bledsoe, that didn't want to throw it to the starting wide receivers and not the running back or slot receiver. To me it's obvious that our last few coaches simply tell their QB's to take no risks with the football. QB is a position full of risks. Do you think Brett Favre wa thinking about throwing picks when he won that barn burner vs. San Fran a couple weeks ago? I know none of the guys we had are Favre, but even decent QB's take chances. It's like the Bills coach them to not lose instead of win. We sit here year after year blaming the QB's, when to me it's clearly a lack of confident coaching that just ruins the play of every QB we've had. Thoughts?

THANK YOU!!! He can call us as well: 585-222-2899.... (And to the admins, yes I'll give a shout out to the board if this leads to getting a hold of him)

On occasion I will post on the board and add to topics. Today I actually need a favor. Does anyone have contact information for Pinto Kenny (Ken Johnson)? I ask because I am a morning show producer in Rochester and I can't get an answer back from the Buffalo News. Please don't post info on the board if you know it, shoot me an e-mail: pattheproducer@rochesterbuzz.com My apologies if this is not the right place for such a post...

Who will be the Bill's starting QB in 2010?
Pat7s replied to trock12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Please go on... what bad mechanics does he have? Do not include pocket presence or ability to read defenses because that's not mechanics, just to be clear. I say this half sarcastically because maybe you have a valid point, so please throw it back in my face. -
Who will be the Bill's starting QB in 2010?
Pat7s replied to trock12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wait wait wait... we need a new QB because Trent threw a pick and got sacked a bunch of times. Right. How about our defense not allow 24 points in a single half. I get that fumbles and interceptions make it very hard, but had they allowed 4 field goals, instead of 3 touchdowns and a field goal, they would have been in the game still. I think it's a riot watching how some Bills' fans (note the proper use) operate. You're up and down every week... you're like dramatic women. It's always the best thing ever or worst thing ever. Can some of you, emphasis on SOME, take a breath and not react with stupid over dramatic doom and gloom scenarios where we immediately need a new QB because ours had a rough game? QB's throw INT's and have tough games, from Tom Brady to Philip Rivers. They have teams that back them up though and give them a chance to redeem themselves. Don't tell me for one second you all can't think back to Kelly and how many times he'd freaking SUCK to start a game but the team would rally, give him a chance, and by the end he'd have great numbers and a win. Is Edwards Kelly? No, but who knows. My point here is they need to rally as a team when stuff goes bad and find a way to win. Someone needs to make a play when Trent throws a pick, Jackson Fumbles, or the O-Line fails. When the defense goes sour we need to make plays on offense too. This game was a failure on both side of the ball, not a failure of the QB. EVERYONE SUCKED. Tim Teabow will not save this football team... especially as a rookie. One player will not fix this team. Oh, and BTW, since when did a preseason game dictate how an entire season will go? That's why it's preseason... we talkin' 'bout practice... Why are we always looking for the next shiny toy to fix this team? They don't need shiny over priced first round draft picks, they need gritty hard working team first players. I don't know yet if they have those, because it's preseason. Rookie QB's are a toss up anyway. If TE does fail, I'm more interested in what QB is a free agent in 2010. Are there any proven guys out there? Fine we might draft a guy in this hypothetical scenario, but we can't rely on a rookie. -
More speculation on Roscoe, this time from a local
Pat7s replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about a serviceable outside linebacker in return? Just throwing that on the pile... I think a lot of people are in love with the guy, which is adorable, but maybe he's jsut not that good of a receiver. Speed kills every DB... in highschool and college. Great wide receivers seem to just get open magically. They don't do it because they are the fastest, quickest, strongest, tallest, or jump the highest... there's a lot of wide receivers who are amazing athletes (kind of have to be to get a shot in the NFL). Great receivers are also smart and know how to trick a DB with little things that most of us would never think of or do. Maybe he just isn't that good because he doesn't apply himself well mentally. I hate to do this, but I compare him to Maxim Afinogenov from the Sabres. Yes, the man has sickening speed and yes at times he has made all of us go, "WOW." Where is he now? Struggling to find a job because he's just not terribly smart and thus one dimensional. Yet people still will argue that someday he's going to score 50 goals. No, he isn't. Roscoe Parish will probably never make 70 catches and pile up 1000 yards. Not because he's a bad athlete, or because he can't help a football team with punt returning and gimick stuff, but because he's just not as smart as someone like Steve Smith from Carolina. Have we given him chances? Yeah, maybe they aren't the right ones. We don't know, but we do know that he is worth more than Josh Reed to other teams, simply because he occasionally makes a highlight reel play. Josh is very valuable to this team. There are very few receivers who can block like he does. We all like to think that's not the case, but it is. If we had an O-Line that could actually give the running back time to find a whole I promise you that Josh would be the guy who makes the block down field that leads to a touchdown. No he doesn't look shiny and cool, but he's the type of guy you must have on a winning football team. Roscoe is too, but if what we get in return is a player that makes us better in the D-line, linebackers or O-line that would be more valuable than having a gimmick player right now.
