Some people can't have it both ways. I think you said it perfectly IQ. It was a good move for marketing and football. The Bills needed both at the time and pulled the trigger. Leave it to the miserable group, to spin it and make it seem like we didn't make ourselves better on the field.

Caught the tail end of radio Report
PushthePile replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even better, it's got to be a third rounder and Cooley. The difference between Roscoe and Welker is significant. Welker is quick but Roscoe is even quicker and better at changing directions. Other than that, Welker smokes him in every other recieving attribute. He has better hands, runs better routes, beats jams at the line, and goes over the middle. Roscoe is a great punt returner and can make things happen once in awhile as a WR. Welker is a great WR and has shown he can do it without Randy Moss. -

What's more of an assumption? You: Jason Peters was unfairly tagged with those 11.5 sacks in 2008, and indeed played at an elite level. He was graded harsher than the average. Me: Jason Peters might not have given up 11.5 sacks in 2008, but his numbers were graded from the same system as every NFL LT. His number any way you spin it, was one of the worst last year. You can analyze the game film if you need to, I watched the games already. -

Those who support Peters, discredit that 11.5 number. Thats okay. What's not okay is assuming that Peters was shafted more than anyone else in the NFL. Use that number as a guideline and comparison to other LTs, who were graded under the same system as Peters. It would be safe to assume that these LTs all had some sacks rightly counted against them and some not. It's kind of dumb to act like that number means nothing. We can all agree that those sacks came from our old left side. -

Forty times are overrated. Fan scouting is overrated. Professional opinions of Pettigrew not overrated. Stud blocking is always underrated. -

If Pettigrew is going to be a Bill, we only get him one of two ways IMO. We draft him at 11 or we package our 28 with another pick and move up to 20. He will be gone before we pick again. I'd like to see the Bills grab a linemen with our first pick. Defense or offense, whatever has better value. If we could still get Pettigrew, it would be a nice combo. Oher/Pettigrew Ayers/Pettigrew Brown/Pettigrew Orakpo/Pettigrew Smith/Pettigrew or we stay put and go Pettigrew/Beatty Pettigrew/Britton Pettigrew/Ayers Pettigrew/Mack I really want Pettigrew. -
Nothing like calling out someone's spelling in a butchered sentence.

Did anyone here likes the O-line from last season??
PushthePile replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry spartacus but you are one of the weaker posters on TSW. Every comment you make is jaded by your frustration with the team. You are certainly allowed to be frustrated, but you can't seperate your pity party from reality. Thus making another zero substance, I hate this team poster. You only bring slightly more to the table, than the guy who states Jauron sucks in a thread about Everette Brown. So thanks for nothing. For the record, the Bills have spent alot of money on the offensive line. The players just didn't pan out. How do you know the rookies are already bad? If you look around the league you will see many young lineman who contribute right away. The Qbs whose careers were destroyed by the pass protection and run blocking, have done wonders since. Clearly these guys were destined for greatness, and never recovered mentally. -

Pettigrew is the closest thing to a guarantee, IMO. I'd have no problem with the Bills taking him at 11. I like my tightends to be tightends, not big WRs. This guy plays with a nasty streak, we need. He would be a force for a longtime. -
Right Sisyphean. Like every "replaceable part" on the team, you should show up to work. Most here know that I am far from sold on Trent Edwards, but the guy is unquestionably the starting Qb for the Buffalo Bills. He is not paid like one. He has just as much room to gripe as Peters, IMO. Lee Evans had more room. Marcus Stroud felt he deserved a little more. These other players, show up and do their job. How dare the Bills expect the almighty Jason Peters to follow suit and act like the other "replaceable parts".

Will you give Trent Edwards some space this year?
PushthePile replied to joe w bags's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we need to wait and see what the o-line looks like this year. Many here are blinded by the word pro-bowl. I'm of the opinion that Peters can be replaced in this draft. Whether we find that guy or not, remains to be seen. Certainly you will have the constantly negative group that says it's impossible for this team to draft anyone good. I look around the league and see many young LTs that have been taken high in the draft, and perform as well if not better than Peters, in their first season. The players who I think are as good or better include Ryan Clady, Joe Thomas, Jake Long, Marcus Mcneil, Jammal Brown, Brandon Albert, Jordan Gross, and Jared Gaither. These are young players who have stepped in right away and played at a similar level as Peters, IMO. The LT position has seen a major influx of talent over the last few years. The money has gotten so big for LTs, that most athletic big men are choosing that position. It's really a myth IMO, that a good LT is hard to find. I haven't even added the good vets to my list of quality NFL LTs. I honestly believe that the Bills could walk away with a better o-line this year. I think we have already upgraded the center position in free agency. We have two first round picks to find a LT. The draft is said to be very deep at tackle and many here like the guards as well. I don't think Dockery was much more than average and his position could ultimately be upgraded as well. To the OPs question, yes we give him slack if he is getting killed. I'm not ready to assume that our o-line can't hold up though. It was decent last year, and the o still couldn't get anything done. This situation has the makings of another Losman saga. One half of fans finding excuses and the other half calling for a new Qb. Wonderful. -
We didn't have one of the five worst defensive lines last year, without Schobel. The offensive line shouldn't be graded until we actually see them play. They weren't one of the five worst last year, despite all the sacks we gave up from the left side. I know this isn't a real stat to some of you, but I think we can all agree they at least came from the left side. I agree that this draft will be line heavy, but the cupboard isn't as bare as it seems.

No kidding Skooby. Nothing like saying I want to pound you into oblivion, because you disagree with me about Jason Peters. HAHAHA! Thanks for weighing in, internet tough guy.

Sources: Peters to Eagles for three picks

Yea, he really dominated that first quarter. Clearly he will own Osi and the Giants for the remainder of his career. -

I can't wait to watch Peters get destroyed against the NYG twice a year. Then sprinkle in a little Dallas 3-4 pass rush a couple of times. Sorry Jason the probowl handouts are over. -
Donte Whitner's facebook status
PushthePile replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Donte has decided that the corrupt cops motives weren't racially charged. He seems to think, he was targeted because of his car and bank account. I'm not sure if the cops knew his bank account, when they tasered him. Perhaps, he left some bank slips on the ground near his expensive car in the parking lot. We can't be sure that the cops didn't look through the parking lot prior to responding to the riot. Afterall they had to find the most expensive car in the parking lot, in order to target the right guy. Once this car was discovered, it has to be linked to the correct baller in the riot. This is the tough part. Donte was only wearing jeans and a t-shirt that night, so he doesn't exactly fit the rich guy look. I'm guessing that an undercover corrupt cop, had to infiltrate the riot/birthday party, and figure out who the car belonged to. Once the owner of the vehicle was determined. An all white, redneck looking group of cops, kicked the door down and tased Donte. Mission accomplished. This is going to be a slam dunk of a case. Has anyone heard about Donte pressing charges yet? The club had to be filled with cameras and video phones. I would guess a few hundred, witnessed this police brutality. It's going to be one hell of court case. -
Donte Whitner's facebook status
PushthePile replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy messed up. Why do some fans need to bend over backwards and spin the event? Being in the wrong place at the wrong time suggests he didn't have the opportunity to avoid the whole thing. Whether or not the cops over reacted is a mute point since we don't know all the information. What we do know is Donte was part of the problem that night. I find it extremely hard to believe that the cops busted into the club and identified Donte as a successful, rich, black male, who drives a nice car, and promptly tazered him. Beyond pathetic. Part of being a man is owning up to your mistakes. Our defensive leader has shown he is not man enough to accept responsibility. This is a growing theme on the team and a growing theme with our younger generations. Players who struggle to take responsibility in life, are going to struggle with responsibility on the field. I can't help but wonder if this attitude has something to do with why this team can't put it together. The talent is there, IMO. I can't put it all on the coach either. At this point in life, these players should have an idea of how to conduct themselves. Being a head coach is tough enough, without having to mold these adult men. Seriously, by your twenties you are already a man. If you screw up, stand up and take the heat. -
Don't worry San Jose that combatant will be back, and firing on all cylinders. The Qb topic never dies.

Dean you bring up great points in this post. Had Edwards signed with one of the elite programs, it would be very likely another blue chipper doesn't sign there. In reality one signing effects many signings. You mentioned in another thread that different teams value players differently. I thought that was a great point, and one in which I'm guilty of overlooking at times (cutler). It's fair to say that many of these college programs value different high school players differently. Many of these colleges heavily recruit many players at the same position. It's an attempt to gain as much talent as possible. USC second stringers are better than most other team's starters. It's impossible to know where these teams had Edwards on their lists. All we can say is that Edwards generated alot of interest. It's unlikely he was the top choice at every location though. I do believe that Edwards would have looked better in many other situations. I also believe he would have had to transfer in others.
-
The fact that you think recruited by, means come here and start, is funny. You just seem a little lacking in understanding how college programs recruit and fill rosters. No biggie. I know alot of Bills fans who don't follow college athletics. Either way I think we are both on the same page when it comes to Trent. He deserves to be the starter but needs to show alot of improvement in order to retain that position. How do you think his high school rankings should effect the amount of time he gets developing at the NFL level?
-
Trent Edwards could have found great success or great failure, had he attended another school. Who the hell knows? I agree with Dave, that he most likely chose Stanford because of superior academics. Which is refreshing. My only problem with any of the opinions in this thread have to do with, Trent being able to play anywhere he wanted. Magox seems to think that a player gets handed a starting job because of his high school ranking. This is foolish. High School rankings are like college rankings. They mean nothing until you prove it at the next level. Obviously in college, the schemes are dramatically different than the NFL as well. That's why Tebow will go down as one of the best Qbs in college history, and Tom Brady would struggle in Floridas offense.
