Is that a bad thing? You actually disproved your whole point with these two. Johnson and Gannon were journeyman QBs that had found minimal success in the NFL, until Gruden got one a ring and a probowl, and the other a MVP. He brings QBs back from the dead.

Poz is consistently being exposed.
PushthePile replied to PushthePile's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you make alot of valid points as to why our defense as a whole is failing against the run. The breakdowns are definately not all Poz's fault. I just can't overlook the plays where he gets whipped one on one. Like I said earlier, I bought the Poz jersey and thought we drafted a beast. I'm begrudgingly starting to come to terms that he is outmatched more often than not. If this defense was running on all cylinders, I honestly think it would stand out plain as day. If I was gameplanning against this defense, I'd play smash mouth football and run it down their throats and that's whats happening. -

You hit the nail on the head. Poz is not built to play MLB, at least not in a 4-3. He has a top heavy body and his lower half is very skinny. This is why he gets blown up by smaller RBs or dragged for extra yardage. The guy is tough, he certainly doesn't shy away from contact. He is just not winning at the point of attack. I think his play can be attributed to alot of the points that have been brought up. Strength and conditioning problems, blockers getting downfield, time of possession, return from injury, and coaching all have alot to do with a players production. In the end it's player v.s. player though, and I see him losing those battles too much. Looking past this train wreck of a coaching staff, somebody is going to have to make a decision IMO. Most good defenses use the MLB position as the focal point and leader of their unit. We need a thumper like Mcclain, bringing that attitude. -

I completely agree about the time on the field. However, I think that Poz is starting to show his physical limitations. Even early in games he struggles to win heads up collisions. Even though our OLBs are adequate at best, they are virtually on an island many times. Inside support is coming late or not at all. I am starting to see a trend with big gains to the outside. Our opponents never seem to get to the edge. Their RBs are being contained and turned inside. Where no one is waiting or someone is getting dragged. I have his jersey, trust me I wanted him to be a stud too. Our LBs are weak and I'm starting to think MLB is the most glaring. -
I realize that our offense is leaving our D on the field far too long. I understand the ramifications of an exhausted front four come the fourth quarter. The fact still remains the same, the middle of our defense is being exposed week in and week out. It is de-moralizing and embarassing. Who is to blame? I have read alot of opinions on this board, in support of Stroud's and William's play this year and tend to agree that they have done their part. I actually think Stroud is having his best season in sometime, and is certainly better than last year. Kyle Williams is underrated and reliable. They have both been eating up blockers and have even gotten into the backfield. The problem is Poz! He doesn't fill the holes with authority and we are paying for it. His speed and athleticism have been a subject of criticism in the past but I believe his power is a question as well. He doesn't seem to get the better of to many collisions and for a middle LB that is critical. Thats not even taking into account the immediate elimination that occurs when a linemen gets into him. Our OLBs are weak to average. Nic Harris is obviously raw and still learning. His explosiveness is very promising, though. Chris Draft has been a very solid pickup for this team, and one many of us wanted awhile ago. Keith Ellison is a memeber of many fans favorite scapegoat list, but he is not terrible. In fact for a sixth round pick the guy has proven to be one hell of a find. I'm not a big fan Mitchell and am ready to see him shown the door. Anyway, the whole point of this analysis is Poz. These outside guys have been doing a better job than they get credit for. They have been turning run plays inside and making the occasional play in the backfield. The problem is their is no inside help! We don't have a MLB on this roster who can fight through traffic. We don't have a MLB on this roster who can fill a hole and stop a guy in his tracks. It's absolutely killing us. IMO, it has become the exact blueprint for how to beat the Bills. We can't stop it and our DBs are feeling the brunt of it as well. We as fans are sick of the product that is being put on the field. We analyze over and over again whats wrong. It's time we take Poz to task. I personally have no solution. I'm starting to wonder if he would be exposed on the outside as well. What's your opinion?

By game 16 Jauron will have ruined Byrd
PushthePile replied to Niagara Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trent Edwards is not a starting NFL quarterback. It wouldn't matter if Bill Walsh and Mike Shannahan groomed him since birth, the guy doesn't have it in him. Roscoe Parrish is a gadget player who has become completely expendable. His only claim is that he had a high punt return average. Which is half a sham, IMO. Yes the guy was explosive in the open field but his decision making is horrid. How many times has he let a kick go without a fair catch, only to watch it roll for 20 yards? Donte Whitner is an average player and everything the rest of the NFL expected. So yes Jauron does suck but alot of his players suck as well. Congrats Buffalo it all sucks! -

DeSean Jackson v. James Hardy
PushthePile replied to sharper802's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unfortunately, Kevin Everett was a bust. His production didn't match the expectations. It is sad what happened to him and it's sad what happened to Kijana Carter, David Pollack, Steve Emtman, Blair Thomas, Curtis Enis, and many more. See, what you got to understand, is that a bust label is based on production level only. The truth is that Hardy had a very good size sample of play his rookie season. James Hardy started only 3 games last season but he played in 14. If you recall the Bills were very thin at WR and tried very hard to get Hardy involved. He was targeted frequently early on and looked bad often. He struggled to get in and out of his routes and his quickness was inadequate, to be kind. These things were expected and even part of the deal when he was drafted. What I think caught the Bills and fans off guard was that he was getting beat physically. The guy couldn't get off the line. He couldn't beat 5'10 corners on jump balls. Hell, he often couldn't even get a finger on the ball. I don't know how anyone who watched him over that stretch could walk away with anything but concern. The Bills certainly took note because his playing time quickly diminished. With all that being said, how can anyone feel comfortable with where he could possibly be at after such a substantial amount of time off? His 2 TDs were nice but does it really wash away the rest of his play? My bust concerns have little to do with stats. In fact Steve Johnson has virtually identical stats and I think he has all the potential in the world. Charles Rogers was a tall WR who had nice size/speed measurables. His problems were similar to Hardy's in terms of physical play and route running. Injuries and lack of focus caused him to have an an extremely dissapointing career. IMO, Hardy is farther behind than Rogers and he as already shown maturity issues. On a final note, Desean Jackson might be better than any of our recievers. Let alone Hardy. Flame Away! -
You see, Billy Batts was a made man.

Maurice Jones-Drew compared to Trent Edwards
PushthePile replied to bizell's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TE is not a NFL QB but I'm not sure how a fan can question is love of football. On what grounds? How do you know Dick Jauron lacks football passion? It takes alot more than passion to be successful in the NFL. Some of the best players might lack passion. It's not always all about attitude and effort. Life's funny like that. -
These rookies are performing much better than expected IMO. They have taken their lumps but overall the interior of the line is much better than the outside. With a solid off-season of strength and conditioning these guys will be better and this year's playing time should prove invaluable. As much as I am dissapointed in the Qb play, I'd like to see a continuos commitment to the lines. It's like money in the bank and the building blocks of a good franchise.

DeSean Jackson v. James Hardy
PushthePile replied to sharper802's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have played 23 regular season games since drafting Hardy and the Eagles have played 22. James Hardy has been active for 14 of the 23 games. James Hardy- 9 receptions for 87 yards and 2 TDs Desean Jackson- 83 receptions for 1,335 yards and 5 TDs, 211 rushing yards and 2 tds, 2 punt return tds One can make the argument that the Eagles are a better offense and that is undisputable. You could also make the argument that the Bills were one of the more desperate teams at WR in the NFL last year and Hardy played his way off the field. Desean Jackson has played his way into the number 1 role on a deep Eagle's WR group. In addition to this he has proved a major value outside of just recieving. It's a joke of a comparison. Hardy wouldn't see the field in Philly, even if he was healthy. James Hardy's injury is part of being a bust. It's unfortunate that he suffered the injury, but a player's ability to stay healthy is undeniably important. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time of his career in terms of development. It will be interesting to see how much action he sees this year. -
Good free agent Qbs are next to impossible to find. Especially if you are looking for starter material. Unfortunately, this team needs to bring in a couple of free agents or rookies to compete. Obviously, TE is not a safe bet anymore. The list is void of any appeal but the keys can't just be handed over anymore. A scarier situation is what is going on in Oakland. At least we aren't paying our underachieving Qb a king's ransom. The Bills would be wise to learn from their mistake. You don't draft a QB early unless you are close to sure about it. Some teams just draft according to need and that is a brutal mistake. The current Qb situation is bad but it could be worse, if they just start firing from the hip.

AHH yes the play heard round the Hardy camp. Man for a guy with such a spotty memory, how did you remember that one play? I guess because it was a very unique play. Hardy was behind the power curve his rookie season and has yet to return from his injury. His uphill climb is even greater now and the timetable is further away. This can't be overlooked when grading a draft pick. -
Keith Ellison is second in the NFL in tackles
PushthePile replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Keith Ellison isn't making any less plays around the line of scrimmage, then the rest of the defense. My point is that no one is creating havoc in the backfiled on run plays. In fact most of the big gains are coming right up the middle. To Keith Ellison's credit he is at least around the ball more than anyone else on the team. -

You are a discredit to grammar school comprehension, let alone Cornell. KD made his statement about 2004 in response to you, making yet another asinine statement, about USC not winning many National Championships since Carroll's tenure. 2004 was the last championship USC won and it was under Carroll. It was his second of eight years with the team. Even a mental midget like yourself can put this together, right? Watching you fumble around in arguments is brutal. -

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/splits?playerId=9764 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/splits?playerId=2161 The first link is the breakdown of Ellison's play and specific information in regards to his tackles. The second is the same information in regards to Keith Bullock. I'm not saying that they are equal players but they have similar stats this season. I don't have the time to break it down but I thought it might be interesting. -
