Roy Williams sounding off on Romo
PushthePile replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent post! This kind of scrutiny is such a commonplace today. It's really a testament to how shortsighted we have all become. Every celebrity, athlete, politician, poster, or brand name either sucks or is the greatest ever. Which is a little strange to say because I just crushed Roy Williams. I am the worst. -
I see these types of hits being handed out by defenders every week. Sometimes they get called for a penalty, sometimes they don't. If you want to call Hines Ward dirty because he likes to hit unsuspecting defensive players, then you really have to call more than half the league dirty. The Hines Ward rule is a legit promotion of player safety. I think most of Hines Ward's critics have come alive because of his association to this rule. The only thing that makes him directly involved with the rule is that they used his block on Keith Rivers as the model. The model could have been hundreds of hits put out before and after the rule was instilled. Including some of our favorite players as Bills fans. I'll have to take your word on the elbows and forearm stuff, I've never seen it from Ward but I do get a chance to see it in most NFL games. These players are going at speeds we can't imagine and are being told to destroy their opponent. We celebrate the most violent of plays, like they matter more than the score. Hines Ward is just a WR doing the unexpected and playing as the attacker. Have you ever heard Ward talk about it? His take is that if he and his teamates can repeatedly get hit like that during a game why is it so wrong for him to hit defenders. A reporter asked him if he was scared of retribution, and he said that if given the chance a defender is always going to try and kill him, regrdless of how he blocks or not. That's the truth. If the league wants to continue to try and take the violent hits out of the game thats fine. Just don't call Hines Ward dirty for making plays that many before him and after him make. Do you remeber the Bryce Paup sack that Buffalo fans celebrated like a badge of honor? I forget who he hit but it was nasty and replayed about a 1000 times on every NFL commercial. It was crown to chin and violent. Part of the game.

I need a link or I don't believe you.

That guy is a force. I'd love him in a Bills uniform. I'm not sure he'd have the speed to play in this horrible system we run, but with any luck it gets trashed when we get a new coach. -

Rex Grossman managed to ride a good team to a superbowl. He is above Edwards at this point. -
Petition to bench Larry Johnson for using "fag"
PushthePile replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Profanity and politically incorrect language is a staple in our culture. False and damaging accusations are made everyday against our presidents of the past, present, and future. Freedom of speech is a right we all have. You are also free to believe what you want as well. The vast majority of people can sift through this crap. The bottom feeders who can't, aren't reason enough to compromise our rights IMO. As far as the children go? They can find much worse pretty much anywhere they look. If parents don't want their kids to hear that stuff, it's their responsibility to protect them from it. IMO, the earlier a kid learns that the world is full of ignorant ass clowns, the better. The Chiefs and the NFL do however have the right to punish an employee how they see fit. I just think it's hypocritical for the Chiefs to suspend Johnson for tweeting the word fag and overlook the times he's been arrested for abusing women. -

It's kind of pathetic to ban a player for the use of a word. The league is full of violent criminals including Johnson himself. On the otherhand it's doubly foolish to honor a murderer in any fashion. -
Roy Williams sounding off on Romo
PushthePile replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Roy Williams is one of the most overrated players in the NFL. He is slow and awkward in and out of his routes. Miles Austin is a much better WR, it's not even close. The Cowboys got taken to the cleaners on that trade. Roy put up decent numbers on bad Detroit teams that were always playing catch up. He also played under the also vastly overrated Mike Martz. Detroit knew what they had and Williams spent most of his time there, on the trading block. A panicked Jerry Jones took the hook. Roy should shut up and enjoy the checks he's stealing. It's pretty freaking sad that a player is stirring up trouble on a team that's coming into it's own and winning, especially because he's unhappy with his own stats. Good luck selling that to a fanbase that already thinks your a bum. -
Gimme a break. Any defender that complains about 200 pound Hines Ward laying the lumber on a unsuspecting LB is full of crap. If given the chance to hit an unprotected WR, RB, or QB they all would take it and they would try to kill that player. I like it when an offensive player tees off on a defender. It's part of the game. Keep your head on a swivel! On a side note Donte Whitner was voted the leagues biggest sweetheart.

Larry Johnson in his prime was a lot better than Marshawn. He had a 2 year span of about 800 touches and is not the same player. Marshawn is better right now and six years younger.

Ray Lewis explodes through a ball carrier. Poz ends up on his back and gets dragged for three yards. The difference between the two couldn't be more glaring. At 34 Ray is still making plays from sideline to sideline. He doesn't play at an all-time level anymore but he is still one of the best in the league. DTs make a huge difference on a LBs ability to make plays. Stroud and Williams are doing a decent job this year, and have been healthy for the most part. They don't dominate but they do a nice job of eating up blockers. The Ravens were completely dominated up front for a season. It's not what we are experiencing in Buffalo. Our biggest problem at the tackle position is depth. Come the fourth quarter those blockers are getting to the second level and thats when we look like a highschool team. My problem with Poz is that even early in games, when he roams free for the most part, he gets beat. Nic Harris made a couple of plays Sunday that I know Poz couldn't have made. I'm not advocating Harris to MLB, I'm just saying LBs need to stop ball carriers in their tracks. If you focus in on Poz for an entire Sunday and then watch other MLBs around the league you will see a huge difference. Every team in the league doesn't have dominating tackles. -
I think Mangini is a decent coach but I get the impression that he causes alot of problems from within. I think we can do better, besides he plays a very Jauronesque brand of football. What's with the Avatars?

Fair enough but you can't set up a special gameplan for a MLB who gets wiped out in collisions. I would also argue that many of our young defensive players are showing serious upside. -
Trent Edwards v.s. Jay Cutler
PushthePile replied to PushthePile's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I gracefully bow out of the debate. I have seen the light, in terms of Cutler. He might put up some nice stats now and again but he is a terrible decision-maker. He will have an up and down career playing the way he does but won't ever be a consistent winner. TE will be a solid backup. -
This subject was all the rage in the preseason, and it nearly split TSW apart at the seams. Posters argued with such fury and passion you would think Cutler was on the team. I personally was at the heart of the argument and in the Cutler camp. It was a crazy time period with TO, Cutler, Peters, and hope. ....now that the dust has settled. I'd like to be the first to say I was wrong. They both suck.
-
Yup, me too. The first thing I thought of was how far could his stock fall?
-
Is that a bad thing? You actually disproved your whole point with these two. Johnson and Gannon were journeyman QBs that had found minimal success in the NFL, until Gruden got one a ring and a probowl, and the other a MVP. He brings QBs back from the dead.
