Assign as the county got the death certificate from the Hospice or the undertaker, they notified SS. That letter came before she was in the ground. Your brother could have also gone to the local SS office.

I doubt she had the liver transplant this week. They may have announced it this week. I had a kidney transplant and then caught the flu in the ICU. That is even bigger surgery. They want to have you in the hospital a few weeks to be sure the new organ is working well. Also spent a week in rehab to get my strength and stamina back up.
