My sister and brother-in-law went on a two week trip to Europe and returned 7/4. They spent 3 days in Rome and saw the Colosseum. It was a hot day (95-100) and they couldn't get a taxi back to the hotel about a mile or so away so they walked. They saw a nice little place on a side street and went in to get a drink. They were talking and a mother and her adult daughter said "You're Americans! Where are you from?" My sister replied "Buffalo". They said "So are we!!" The daughter is the executive chef for the Bills players and staff at the stadium!

In the late 70's (after the Bicentennial) the Town of Cheektowaga saved money by using a lower tier or fly-by-night fireworks presenter for their 7/4 show at the town park. My uncle was in St. Joe's hospital across the street at the time and he saw one skyrocket land in front of rthe main entrance to the hospital. Amazing no one was hurt.

I post updates to let people know not to fear getting treated. Last fall I was worrying about how my life would be when it came time for dialysis and/or trasplant. I didn't have to do dialysis pre-transplant, but if you are retired or already laid up it just means being stuck in one place for ~3 hours at a time . Kidney disease doesn't have many severe symptoms at first but it is gradual and can sneak up on you. What has happened to me after transplant the docs have seen many times and are ready for it. They know what they are doing. Last year at ECMC, they did about 140 transplants and maybe 60-70 (including me) this year so far. 10 years ago this coming Tuesday, I was in the ICU with a stroke caused by high BP. My BP was 245/70 something. I should have died that day. That damage eventually led to me needing the transplant 10 years later. This past 10 years has all been bonus time. The transplant has given me even more bonus time. I'm on the PPP board a lot and nothing anyone can say bothers me. There are more important things such as your and your family's health and well being.

7/4 update. ~15 week post transplant. Kidney heath is still fine. All vitals are in normal range, better than before the transplant. Weight steady. Back in May, director drained fluid at incision site (not by new kidney). Been having to wear a wound vac. One side wasn't draining as well so surgeon extended incision. Well, yesterday he said vac was comming off 7/11. Have been having a barking cough and nasal congestion so they did a nasal swab for infection. No covid, but I have parainfluenza. Lowered one anti-rejection med and upped my steroid for now to help my immune system. Have to wear a mask for 2 weeks so others don't get infected. The infection is not severe. Had covid a lot worse back at Thanksgiving before the transpant. Good to keep a close eye on it.
