Yeah, I feel for F-Jax and Kyle Williams. Truly wasted talent.

The losses are frustrating but to be honest they do not even really make me upset anymore, I just laugh them off....same ol' Bills. I think the reason for this detachment is because i know deep down there really is not much this franchise can do to fix things. In order to compete in the NFL you need a Franchise QB and a good Head Coach. There is always the potential we can land a franchise QB via the draft. But if that QB does not have Head Coach who can groom him and put him in a position to succeed, his career will probably be derailed. In regards to landing a good Head Coach, I believe that is not possible because no established Head Coach/top Coordinator will come here under our current ownership situation. I know, i know....it is only one of 32 jobs, but to date all of the established coaches have declined the offer to interview, and lot of top coordinators as well. If I was a top coordinator for a contending team, and the Bills were my only Head Coaching offer, I'm not so sure I would want my potential only shot at being a head coach to come in a situation which I did not feel I had a strong chance to succeed. To his credit, Ralph ponied up money this offseason to help us compete for a playoff spot.....but what he fails to realize is that unless and until we clear up our future ownership situation, we will never be able to get a coach who will be capable enough to lead us to the playoffs. All of us known the problems with this team (Betting the farm that Fitz is an NFL starting QB, Wanny's lack of adjustments, Chan's pass happy play calling despite a lack of personnel).....but even if we "addressed" all these issues in the short-term....we would just be trading in one retread head coach/inexperienced coordinator for another and would be in the same place again in 3-4 years. I used to hate Bye Weeks growing up, now i wish we could have Bye Seasons until we find out if the Bills will be in Buffalo long-term or not.

Lindell was never that great on kickoffs....Powell has some size to him, anyone know if he could potentially handle kickoff duty as well? Potter seems like a wasted roster spot.

If Brad Smith would have connected (with someone on our team) he would have surpassed Fitz's non-YAC passing yards on one throw.

Bills need to find a way to seal the edge against TEN
MURTR replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OMG i noticed this too, Kelsey was consistently getting sealed in. Not sure if the plays called for him to inside rush but it was mad frustrating b/c it looked like he had no clue. -
I know there are different styles of coaching....they range from Bill Cowher (spit in your face) to Tony Dungy (soft-spoken). I personally would prefer someone maybe not as hard-nosed as Cowher, but someone whom players not only respect but fear a little. Was wondering what everyone thought of both Chan and Ken Wisenhunt's reactions to players on their team taking stupid penalties.... Whisenhunt -Cardinals FB Maui'A caught a ball in the flat, carried some defenders a couple yards, got up and spiked the ball and got 5 yrds for delay of game. It was a boneheaded play and Whisenhunt let him and pretty much everyone else on his team know that that would NEVER be tolerated by verbally undressing him on the sideline for everyone to see. It looked like he yelled at him "WHAT THE F@#* ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!" a good 3 times right in the players face. I think Whisenhunt is a pretty good coach, hasnt had loads of talent on his teams, but always seems to get them to over-achieve. Remember, they were an insane Santonio Holmes' catch away from being Superbowl Champs. Gailey -TE Lee Smith pushes a Cards defender after the whistle and picks up a 15 yrd personal foul. He goes to the sideline and says sorry to Chan, while Chan quietly says something along the lines of you know you can't do that stuff. I am all for being a "players coach" but if you ask me which player is less likely to repeat a mistake, i would have to guess it would be the Cards fullback. I mean Marv was a pretty mellow coach, but even he got pissed off/animated every once in a while. I'm not saying this should be a reason Gailey should be fired (there are others), I just feel like majority of the people we identify as good coaches would probably have gotten more in the players face than Chan (i.e. Belichick, Harbaugh bros, Parcells, Cowher, Tomlin etc.).....just curious as to what people thought.

I'm sorry but i think what myself and others are saying is yes society has evolved....so much so that decent people dont associate the word retarded with Autism or Down's syndrome. Retarded simply means something devoid of thought. Again, I'm sure many people call mentally challenged people Stupid......but that does not mean you get offended when someone describes something as Stupid does it? Would Stupid Tattoos as the subject offended you?
-
Mentally-Handicapped Tattoos just didn't have the same ring. Words have different connotations during different time periods. Calling someone a retard is offensive nowadays but 50 years ago it would have been the same as calling them mentally challenged. Retarded is used more as an adjective currently. It's like the word Stupid/Dumb, 50 yrs ago they were used to describe someone who was mentally handicapped, but nowadays they are perfectly acceptable adjectives. If I would have said Stupid/Dumb Tattoos would u have found it offensive?

Is Stephon Gilmore a potential BUST?
MURTR replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This post is a BUST. Dude is a rookie, give him AT LEAST one full season before you begin assessing his play. You can have all the physical skills in the world, but if youre not coached up you probably wont amount to jack. Considering how bad our entire defense (especially secondary) looks, poor coaching could contribute a lot to his lack of success thus far. -
Stats for ranking offenses are usually based on yardage which can be misleading, especially when we only have a 4 week sample size, and when Fitz scores late TDs against soft prevent coverage in blowout losses (See Jets, Pats game). Based on what Fitz has done the last 20 games, i would say we are definitely not a Top10 offense...probably somewhere middle of the road. Anyway, point of this wasnt to lay blame only to Fitz, just curious as to what people thought it would mean to our team to not have Fitz in there. I personally dont mind Fitz if he is in there to manage the game, but cannot stand when Chan lets him go into Gunslinger mode......it always seems to lead to turnovers and losses, unless we are playing a poor defense. Also dont like how our packages with him seem to be restricted to shotgun with limited roll-out/play-actions.
-
One of thigpen's strengths is he can throw outside the pocket...he did it a lot while he was in KC on a horrible team. If you havent noticed, Fitz isnt moved outside the pocket at all because he cannot throw well on the move. Not saying Thigpen is amazing, just noting something he could bring to the table. And the breather line was a joke..
-
Do you think it would help or hurt this team? I do not wish injury on anyone, but I actually think it could help and maybe force us to be a run-first team... -we got 2 effective RBs -there are some injuries on the OLine, but usually it is easier for backup linemen to come in and be more effective in run-blocking -Thigpen is more mobile then Fitz, maybe we can FINALLY start running play-actions and roll-outs from under center instead of just lining up in Pistol/Spread formations all game. -maybe our Mandatory 4-man only pass rush gets a breather, and can be more effective in rushing the passer

I have nothing to add, i just wanted to see this topic in the headlines on the home page....

Who is going to be our holder???..........heard it here first...... Brad Smith = WILDCAT Holder
-
it's only WEEK 2.....can u wait for a few more games to make a judgement call on something? Wasnt Smith limited in Week 1 due to injury anyway? I dont think T-Jax will work in the wildcat because he isnt a threat to run. Brad Smith has shown the ability to make plays running as a kick returner and short yardage specialist. I also think considering the money we are paying T-Jax...he is pretty much our #2 QB once he wraps his head around the playbook. I dont think most teams would make their backup QB run wildcat for fear of injury (minus Tebow of course).
-
Exactly what I was thinking.....shout out to Rodney Harrison!

Playing 1 week after your little brother is randomly murdered has got to be tough as hell. Think it would be cool if they recognize that and intro the starting D and make Dareus the last player. Think there is anything cool the fans can do?
-
True, guess u would need a total breakdown of plays. I just want a better gauge of HOW dull our offensive game plan was. Gailey was brought in here because he was the "innovative" OC who developed the Slash roll for Kordell Stewart...Yet when I look at a lot of our game plans, especially Sundays, I see the same predictable 3-4 WR sets with short routes. I just wish he would bring things to the table that would create some confusion for opposing defenses.....the only wrinkle I saw last game was bringing Donald Jones in motion and having him lead block on run plays, which i wasnt a fan of considering how small he is.
-
I saw absolutely no adjustments/creativity in our game plan. Offense was the same crap we been running all last year. I actually didnt even get that upset during the game because it still felt like a preseason game b/c of our vanilla play calling. DEF What % of downs did we blitz? What % of downs did we stunt? OFF What % of downs did we screen? What % of downs did we rollout? What % of downs did we have trips WRs?

MURTR replied to MURTR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah all the chinese sites are pretty shady looking now, read tons of reviews of people who ordered from them and never received anything. Anyone else got any ideas? -

Gone are the days when teams didnt know how to manage the salary cap. This isnt the early/mid-90s...they hire "capalogists" to keep track of this stuff, and dont forget the annual salary cap increase has been pretty substantial most years with the exception of maybe the last 2 years due to the ending of the CBA. Half the players the top teams sign this year will be cut in 2-3 years to create cap space to sign future big money UFAs...sitting around waiting to strike when the timing is right will be futile. Agree with some of the other people on here, just need to plug some holes (RT, ILB, TE) with solid vets. We will probably have to overpay them not because we are Buffalo, but b/c we are just not that good. If we ever start winning, that will bring the price down.

How in the name of God does Phil Hansen...

prerequisite for making the Wall of Fame should be at LEAST 1 Pro-Bowl. -
Last time Bills drafted an OT in rounds 1, 2, 3, or 4?
MURTR replied to MURTR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
no, like i said in the original post, im fine with this years draft. just shocked to see we havent drafted one this long....i find it more of an indictment of Marv/Jauron than Buddy.
