Duke today, did the bad outweigh the good?
DCbillsfan replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd like to see the Bills draft a WR1 and sign a veteran WR. Pair these guys with Beasley and Brown for top 4 WRs. Let Foster, Duke, and McKenzie battle for WR5. Roberts would be WR6. -
I think coaching was a big issue in today's game. Played it too close and it eventually caught them. I listened to post game presser. McD was upset to me, like he let players down kind of way upset. I'm concerned about McD's conservative in game decisions. You have to go for the jugular when the opportunity is there. Bills could have blown out the Texans today but lose a squeaker. Very frustrating.

Virgil I get you being bummed. This is a bad loss. The Bills dominated the first half but only led 13 - 0. They let the Texans stick around, went conservative in their coaching calls, and then it went to crap. Honestly though the Bills were short in talent this year. Yes, they should have won today but their oline is far from dominant, they need a strong inside RB to go with Singletary, and WR1. They also need a dominant DE. Bills are tracking in the right direction, they have $90M, and 9 draft picks. Beane will get it done. Yeah the loss sucks and it leaves a bad taste. McD needs to reevaluate his in game decisions and this crap loss will be the impetus for him to do just that. McD is a detailed guy and he hates this loss just as much as us. Give your daughter a big hug. She's far more important than this or any other game.

This was a tough loss for the Bills. I'm hoping Beane takes note of how Titans and Ravens ran all over Pats this year. Pair Singletary up with a big bruising back, get a legit RT, move Ford inside, get a WR1, probably another WR, and a DE. The other good news is Brady will keep playing until he totally sucks. His ego won't allow him to accurately assess that he's no longer the player he once was.

A lot of pain in this locker room (McDermott quote)

Looking at McD mainly. They just went into a shell offensively. The ESPN guys were getting on my nerves but at some point in 4th quarter Allen had thrown just 6 passes in 2nd half. -

If the Bills got outplayed I could understand this take. They frittered away a 16 - 0 lead. They had this game and they squandered it away. I blame mostly the coaching. -
Conservative play calling will get you beat

How about they went in to an offensive shell after they scored the touchdown. Late in 2nd half, Allen had thrown the ball about 6 times. It was just too predictable. I'm not sure who it's on though. Is McD telling Daboll to do it or is it on Daboll? -

Yep. I thought that was what the review was all about. Not the spotting of the ball. -

I don't think so. -
Along those lines, check out last year's week 6 game between the Bills Texans. There are so many Bills in that game that are no longer around. It is rather incredible.

This is it. Beane is going to be judicious in free agency just like last year. He will probably try to sign more under the radar free agents and use his top draft picks on WR, DE, and OT imo. As far as re-signing guys (Spain, Lawson, and Jordan Phillips, etc), Beane may place a higher priority on re-signing Kevin Johnson. He's looked good out there and Wallace has been shaky at times. I believe Beane will have an interest in keeping Spain, Lawson, and Jordan Phillips however all these guys will likely get huge offers from other teams. Unfortunately, I think these guys are gone. -
I mostly agree with this assessment. My only question regards to Bates. In college, he played mostly interior line. If Bills view him as interior guy, I see the Bills drafting an OT.

Spain received only a one year deal worth $2M. Very inexpensive for a starter. He'll definitely want a longer deal and more money. I was always curious why Bills only signed him to one year deal. Maybe that's what Spain wanted and/or Bills saw him as a stopgap with idea of drafting another OLineman in 2020.
