Actually he's not the top candidate they can offer, Romney is. Also newt probably would be the candidate who would most be likely to push his plans through, considering his history of compromise with Clinton....without a doubt he is an extremely intelligent man, with loads of substance...he probably from a substantive pov he'd be a good president however his negative polling numbers are sky high, even though they have dropped a little but the caricature of newt has already been placed..so bottom line he can't beat Obama.... -
China's Economy Goes From Boom To Bust
Magox replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
They won't go bust the way we did.....a few central reasons, one is the shear numbers of people mobilizing themselves into the middle class whereas the u.s and Europe for the most part had already been maxed out. The main reason however, is one key word ...... Leverage Even though chinas property values in certain coastal cities are overvalued, they haven't operated with nearly the leverage they did with in the rest of the western world....we had many home loans with less than 5 percent down whereas chinas average down payment is closer to 40 percent....which means if people go upside down on their loans they won't let it go.....meaning that they won't see that vicious circle of home price erosion of home foreclosures further bashing prices lower....also one of the few advantages of state owned banks specially with the huge cash reserves that china has that none of these banks will go under. China will not stay below a 6% GDP rate for a sustained period for one simple reason...it would cause such social unrest that they wouldn't dare allow that to happen and since they are able to implement stimulus programs with such efficiency because of the lack of beauracratic channels and hurdles to put t Hesse projects in motion, you won't see them stay at those unacceptably low growth levels. -

This says more about the desperate purists looking for the non existent, errr Great White Hope. It's not the allegations that should bother people, it's how he's handled them. We get a good chuckle at amateur hour at the White house and the naivete' of our esteemed leader, but Cain makes Obama look like a well seasoned vet. For !@#$s sakes, he didn't even know China had nuclear capabilities.

You know how in boxing matches, many times the fighters sort of dance around to get a feel of the other boxer before they begin to systemically break them down? yep -

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there were quite a few threats going on when Merkel and Sarkozy met up with papanidiot. Like "You still want to be a European?" or "That's it buddy, you're cut off if that referendum goes through" -

That's ummmm pretty chaotic. If you noticed it isn't just a couple people who are causing all this havoc, but the crowd is very supportive of all these actions. When the Tea party was cast as racists, they would find one loon from the crowd of 20,000 who had some sort of racist sign and then the entire rally was depicted as racists because of that one loon, whereas here you can see that at least a good portion of that crowd is supportive of these actions. -

Of course, Fox is the other end of the spectrum, they have been looking for anything that could be seen as negative to the movement. I've always said that the reason why Fox is as successful as they are is mainly for one reason and that is they are the counterweight to the rest of the media. Since the rest of the networks have either a liberal bias or slant to them and Fox is basically the only network that is to the right (other than CNBC which I would say leans more to the right) they have been able to consolidate viewers who have a like-minded viewpoint. -

That's not my point, I agree that there has been a lot of reports and accounts of their "asshattery", but there hasn't been a negative narrative tied to the journalist accounts such as what we saw during the healthcare debate about the tea partiers. -
I would venture to guess that he could get himself into becoming at least a contributing upgrade at the OLB/DE position within a matter of weeks. In regards to his sparkling personality, I could give a rats ass about that and I doubt the players would either. The bottom line is the guy was a tireless worker who produced.

There is no other rational explanation other than hypocrisy. I remember reading Politico and WAPO during the healthcare debates and just about every week, the coverage was filled with stories and accounts of racism from a bunch of middle aged white men. This wasn't just "reported" by these news outlets but by just about from every other news outlet out there. Now we have a movement that has clearly showed many unlawful, sometimes violent forms of protest and the media merely reports the factual side of the account, but with no narrative along with it, such as the narratives they created during the health care debates, which of course was that the Tea Party movement was fueled by racism. And if they do create a narrative for the OWS protests, its a narrative in support of it. For example, maybe they will interview one of the sane and rational OWS protesters and that interview will be about how that person lost his job or his home or what have you. That's the major difference. Listen, I happen to believe there are some honest grievances within the movement, but the way the movement has been covered by the media relative to the Tea Party movement is an embarrassment of true journalism. Don't you remember seeing on Politico all the images of some Kooky looking white dude yelling with a story that had racial implications? I certainly do. The reason for the hypocrisy is quite simple, they sympathize with OWS crowd and loathe what the Tea Party stands for. That's it. -

I was listening to NPR this morning, and they cited the closing of the Port of Oakland/San Francisco and the smashing of bank windows, and then interviewed a free lance reporter who said that the demonstrations were peaceful. Then the host asked him, why did they shut the port down, and his the free lance reporters answer was to demonstrate their power. So exactly how does this advance their agenda? Since Pete has attended these rallies and sympathizes with these folks, I would like to hear from his perspective what the reasoning is behind both of the smashing of the bank windows and shutting down one of the largest ports in the US? -
I do, it's called effective wellness programs. People begin to live healthier, health costs will go down. End of story

Oh Please! Like Pete is capable of giving a rational answer. It's about as pointless of a question as the one I posed to Dave. -
I don't know about getting a free pass from you guys, but every poll that comes out he is increasing his lead, that's what I mean by getting a free pass. Having said that, I don't believe that most of the voters when crunch time comes around, will caste their vote for him. Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/67410.html#ixzz1cYoZR32Y Even OReilly went soft on him last night, how could he not confront Cain on his inconsistencies of his accounts of the harassment accusations? What sort of journalism is that? It's not, that's the answer. People are so desperate to get a "purist" conservative candidate (even when they really aren't) that they'll ignore all the gaffes, inconsistencies and electability just to get in their perceived "purist" candidate. What a load of crock!

No, it's not ok. This is what happens when populist pieces of legislation that are for punitive purposes get passed. The banks/corporations don't suffer the consequences, the consumers do. But it's easy to create a boogeyman, you create conditions for a corporation that takes away revenues, they do what a capitalist business should do, which by the way their fiduciary duty is not just to the consumer but to the stakeholders and they pass on the cost to the consumer. Remember, the consumer always has the right to do his business elsewhere if they feel they are getting shafted. That's what makes capitalism what it is, the consumers in most circumstances have the last say, and it isn't as if there is some sort of monopoly in the banking industry, we all have choices of where we can do our business. -
Sexual harassment? Possibly. That's not the issue for me however, it is his consistent ability to be inconsistent. One minute he says, he barely remembers the account, then in a separate interview he remembers specific details. Then he says in two separate interviews/press conferences that he ABSOLUTELY does not remember any settlements then all of a sudden on Greta's show he does. This isn't the first time he's had issues. People talk about Romney and his flip flopping yet when Cain does it, he gets a free pass. On one interview he says its up to the families for abortions in certain circumstances and then when he realizes he is about to receive some criticism he flops on it. Then about the Gitmo deal. Then there is electric fence, he says he is for having an electric fence and once the criticism comes in he says he was just kidding. For crying out loud, he had 10 freaking days to get his story and facts straight and when confronted he wings it. I said that he was a gaffe machine about a month ago, and some of you came out said that was a cheap shot of sorts. Come on Now! Face it, he is and if this is the guy you guys back, 4 more years of the one holding office will certainly be the case.
