colin powell comments on the republican party
Magox replied to birdog1960's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Lets see here. 1) Powell Endorses Climate Change legislation Cap and Trade 2) Powell Endorses higher taxes on the wealthy 3) Powell Endorsed the ACA 4) Powell Endorses the closing of Guantanamo Bay 5) Powell Endorses further restrictions on Guns 6) Powell Supports socially liberal positions 7) Powell Endorses the Dream Act 8) Powell Endorsed Obama over McCain 9) Powell Endorsed Obama over Romney 10) Powell hears the same "dog whistles" that the MSNBC crew hears 11) Powell shifts his position on Gay Marriage 12) Powell shifts his position on DADT (I also support some of these positions as well, but this is just to illustrate examples of Powell's positions over the past five years) Sorry, but Powell is no Moderate Republican. He's a liberal. Nothing wrong with that, that's just how he views things, but let's not pretend he is a "moderate republican", all he does by claiming to be one is provide cover for the president. Over the past five years, he's made a substantial shift to the left. -

Typical, rather than argue the merits of the substance of the points he made, you come out with a non sequitur . I've got news for you, just about everyone has a vested interest in whatever it is that they are doing. And in regards to whats more objective, it's only more objective to you, because it comes from many of the same people who have like-minded views that you espouse.

You and I will never see eye to eye on speculation. We've gone circles with each other on this issue for years and it won't ever change. You somehow believe that speculation is this outside derivative that doesn't warrant the effect that it has had. That the money printing from the Fed shouldn't have caused rising prices in some of the markets, because from your view it's just a "bubble" caused by these nefarious speculators. That's simply not the case. Again, this is a perfect example of you living in a vacuum. You see an ETF and it's creation, prices rise, and voilaaaaa! Speculation caused the prices to rise. Do you really want me to dig up information of tons of ETF's that were created to only see the price of the underlying product drop? Also, you see that prices make a sharp increase after QE, and in your view, you say "It's those stupid neanderthal investors believing that QE is making prices go higher, because of their fallacious view on money printing" . That's what you think. You simply cannot fathom why prices rise when the creation of new money out of thin air could possibly make prices rise. Those trillion dollars of treasury purchases I guess don't filter their way into the economy right? And there many ways that it filters into the economy, one is by driving down rates. You don't believe those lower rates have added price pressure? How about consumer patterns? You don't believe that consumers have adjusted their patterns in how they buy homes as a result of QE? What about Corporate bond issuance? You don't think that QE has had an impact? What about investor behavior? You don't believe that investors have adjusted their portfolios because of QE? Oh, and here is what you really fail to understand.. And for the life of me I cannot see how any rational thinking person is not able to recognize the impact on the value of the dollar. You honestly believe that loose monetary policy through QE shouldn't have an impact on QE, or at least not much of one. That's absurd. A lower monetary value = higher prices. That is basic economics, and you fail to grasp this very basic concept. The only reason why our Dollar hasn't dropped any more is because loose monetary policy is being used in most major advanced economies. It's a race to the bottom. I've always argued from day one, that the only reason why we haven't seen an even higher increase is because of the slack on the economy. On this point we agree. And when the world economy, specially here, begins to pick up, we will see prices rise sharply. And again, you will believe it's a bubble. Of course it isn't a bubble, it's a rational consumer and investor response caused by underlying conditions. Once conditions change, then prices will drop off. That sir, is no bubble. A bubble is irrational overexuberant investor behavior. And not all bubbles are created equally. One sort of bubble is usually a piling on effect to maximize profits due to short-term trends. Those pop fairly quickly. A long-term bubble is a bubble that accumulates over a period of time, caused by outside factors that elicit irrational investor behavior. The devaluation of the US dollar is not an irrational response from investors. It is perfectly logical. Prices haven't ballooned, they've just risen sharply. There is a distinction between the two. But again, you will never see it that way, you will scoff at the suggestion that QE is rationally responsible for the rising prices of everyday commodities and in your mind only accept that investors are buying these commodities only to maximize profits while the rest of us get hosed by these greedy bastards. Who said this? "Since investors aren't stupid" hmmm Oh and me vague? Whenever I do have a "vague" response, it's usually because of one of a few reasons, normally because the person I'm responding made such a moronic comment, that the only response that I believe is appropriate is one of a mocking nature. And two, because I've spoken about the pertaining subject at hand ad nauseum and I don't have any real desire to relitigate the issue again.

That doesn't even come close to addressing any of the points that I made in the previous post. And in regards to inflation, only failed mainstream economists actually believe that the CPI offers an accurate picture of today's inflation. People who consume health insurance, food, gas, clothing, education and etc. etc. understand that rising prices is the most predominant concern in their lives. Now go on, continue to peddle your nonsense. "Conspiracy" so all the rising prices of the things that have been mentioned is a conspiracy? Wow! who knew that we were living in an alternate world? I guess rising prices don't exist in your world. You are one delusional dude. And, the ONLY argument I've made is that you live in a vacuum? Man, no wonder you are having a hard time understanding when people talk to you. You just willfully ignore what you don't want to see. I've made a number of points and just referenced an observation, which was that you have a tendency to cherry pick data that fit your views, and pretend that everything exists in a vacuum. But, yeah, that's the ONLY argument I've made.

I would agree with this. They may "love" the kid and all that, but at the end of the day, they would be staking their future on the pick. If they picked him at the # 8 slot, that would be a serious indictment of what they really think of his potential. -

Appears that could be overcome with more proper coaching. -

Dodd Frank changed my life. -
You pretend everything exists in a vacuum ( I hate to use this word because I just read that TYTT used the same wording, but it fits and that's precisely the word I would of used any how). That correlation DOES cause causation. This is a pattern of yours, you cherry pick data to support your argument, not taking other important variables into account. That's an intellectually dishonest argument to make, certainly not something that I would expect out of someone who is trying to make a serious case. Going back to your earlier response, the minting of a trillion dollar coin is an atrocious idea and I'm surprised that even you would possibly entertain it. You don't believe that it would open up a pandora's box? The precedent that would occur could have ramifications with serious hazards. If you circumvent the system one time, then you can find loopholes of other usages for other instances. We could just buy more treasuries with the Fed's balance Sheet, swap other commitments as collateral and forgive debt by creating more of these trillion dollar coins. There also would be other loopholes that could be creatively configured that would allow the forgiveness of debt. Also, you seem offended that the debt ceiling is being used to create change. Obviously you are ok with the status quo, because if you weren't then you would also demand change in taking action in reducing our debt. The only time that there have ever been serious discussion about reducing our debt is when a "threat" by the R's of some sort ever came about. The guy you support would never on his own ever take substantial meaningful action in doing anything to solve these dire issues we have. Were you offended by then Senator Obama when he voted not to raise the debt ceiling? Remember when he made a big stink about it? Of course you weren't offended because he is on your team.

What should the Bills do at #8?
Magox replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Many would argue that our most pressing "needs" for this football team would not include a pass rusher and I may be inclined to agree with them. However, at this point it doesn't appear that there is a QB or WR that would make sense at the #8 overall pick. Also, I'm not convinced that any Middle Linebacker presents as much value a potential elite pass rusher. From what I've seen and read, there are four pass rushers in this years draft that in most years would either be the #1 or #2 top pass rushers in those given drafts. I believe that Mario is a good pass rusher, but from my view certainly not elite, so it's important that we get another guy to compliment him. With a new Defensive Coordinator it's hard to say what defensive scheme we will have in place, but my guess is that we will be implementing a "tweener" somewhere in the scheme, and I'm not convinced that either Anderson or Moore can be that guy. Here is a list of four guys that I believe could be immediate impact pass rushers next year. 1) Bjoern Werner 6'4 256 lbs. He's one of those maniacs with good combo of size and speed. Sort of like a JJ Watt or Kevin Greene kinda player. 2) Jarvis Jones 6'2 242 Probably the most versatile of the LB's, can drop back into coverage, defend well against the run and is a phenomenal pass rusher. Barkevious Mingo 6'4 240 Is the most athletic out of the bunch, runs in the mid 4.5's with tremendous explosion Damontre Moore 6'4 250 Another guy that has a good combo of speed and power with great production throughout his collegiate career. -

Those empty backfields on third and short situations drove me nuts. Why in the world would you want to eliminate the threat of the running option? Defenses knew exactly what you were gonna be doing, which was passing. -

They came down some because this is the time of the year they come down . It was just a few months ago where we had record high prices for the month of October, and now that they have come down their typical 10-15%, and your response is "and then they came back down"
