Jerome Harrison and Noah Herron are vets, but neither starting material. The only other back on the roster is Chris Jennings. Davis has been impressive in camp, but we've all seen guys who are amazing preseason players who do nothing in the regular season. Unless it's about money, I'd be surprised if they cut Lewis without picking up a vet immediately. They're roster seems to shallow to go with what they have.

If JL can't make the Browns, who have one other legit RB on the roster (James Davis), that's really pathetic. I can't imagine the Bills are going to grab another RB with FJax and XO on the roster til Beast comes back. However, if Brian Leonard loses the Cincy back-up battle to DeDe Dorsey, he would be an excellent pass-catching/special teams pick-up. Dude has a serious motor and plays tough every down.

Like it or not, the NFL teams are franchises controlled by the league. Jerry wants his own set of rules because he's an egomaniac. It would be like a guy who buys a Subway franchise, and then argues that he wants to sell hamburgers instead of subs because the profit margin is higher. Um, if you didn't like the setup in the first place, you shouldn't have bought the franchise. Jerry is more than entitled to become an owner of team in a non-revenue sharing league. He can sell the Cowboys and buy the Texas Rangers.

Had Bell not gotten hurt, the big surprise today would have been Langston Walker getting cut.

Sorry, thought it was straight forward, but I guess it's mixed. The actual question is, at the end of the day, will Chris Kelsay still be a Bill. I think no. As far as DE's go, Kelsay and Ryan Denney seem like they're holding the same spot, the 1st and 2nd down run stuffers, and Maybin is in on obvious 3rd down passing situations. Schobel's got the other side locked up, and Copeland Bryan seems like he's got the back-up position locked up. So that's four DE's. Chris Ellis is probably on the bubble, so where does that leave Kelsay and his massive contract?

He's on the third year of a 4-year, $23 million dollar deal. Listened to the D&C podcast from yesterday. Sal and Leo seem to think Kelsay's a goner for the lack of production, the high cost of his deal, etc. He seems like a Jauron guy, in that he gets paid a lot to be mediocre, but has a strong work ethic and positive attitude. In other words, perfect for a consistent 7-9 team.

This year's Hard Knocks has been good, like the KC one a few years back. W/regard to the Bengals, the old saying 'sh*t flows down stream' is appropriate. They have a cheap owner that, when two tight ends go down, one for the season, leaving only a raw rookie and a journeyman backup to play, suggests they convert a defensive player rather than sign a free agent. You can see the discomfort on the tight end coaches face when Mike Brown makes the suggestion, but he has to go along with it. This is a team that for years had no scouting staff. They had the assistant coaches do the scouting. No matter how bad things get/are with the Bills, I always remember that at least they're not the Bungholes.

I think Robiskie could be the biggest sleeper out of this draft. Crabtree, Maclin, Hakeen Nicks, Percy Havin are all getting more pub, but living in Ohio I watched just about every game this kid played in college. His speed (4.5) is the same that Jerry Rice had coming out of college, so that's not a concern in my mind. What was Larry Fitzgerald's speed at the combine, probably not better. It's his hands that are the thing for me. He made a ton of big time catches when it counted and has a great work ethic.

My issue with Leftwich is his long delivery. I think there's a reason Garrard beat him out for the job, and Garrard is average at best. Granted, his line was decimated this year. Kitna would be a good option. Garcia has said he won't be a backup. I'd image Tampa Bay is gonna hold on to him. Vilma's got a great motor, but he's only an inch taller than Ellison and actually lighter. I don't think we need another undersized LB, which was the knock on him in NY. Crowder is similar in size to Crowell but younger, although Crowder plays inside like Poz. Personally, and I know this isn't going to happen, but I'd prefer the Bills play a 3-4 with Stroud at nose, have Poz and Crowder inside, Mitchell and Crowell outside. With a healthy Schobel, I'd be happy with that even if they drafted a guy to play opposite him and not go after a big time free agent. With the signing of Mitchell and trade for Stroud last off season, I'd like to believe the Bills front office is willing to make a run at somebody with game changing talent. Birk's an interesting option. Back when they drafted McCargo and Nick Mangold was still on the board, I was screaming at the tv about what a screw-up it was to leave Mangold on the board. Winslow is too much of an injury-prone knucklehead to be worth anything. That right knee is a mess.

As a longtime Bills fan, it has become a tradition to spend the back half of December looking at what free agents will be available for the upcoming season. While it's unlikely any of these guys will end up in Buffalo, here are some folks, all unrestricted free agents, I wish they'd take a serious look at to improve this team: Charlie Batch, QB - I know, WTF? Hear me out. JP is a goner, which means they need depth at the position. Trent has yet to prove he can go a long stretch without an injury, so this team is going to need a steady hand with back-up experience in the #2 spot. Batch has proven this in Pittsburgh, and he won't demand the money that Matt Cassel is gonna get. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR - Probably the best compliment to Evans available. Luckily, Cincy is horrible about resigning it's own good players, but lots of teams will be after TJ, so that leaves... Devery Henderson, WR - A big, deep threat receiver. Good compliment to Evans. Reed and Steve Johnson give the position depth, and hopefully Hardy improves with another offseason. Terrell Suggs, DE - With Haynesworth and Peppers probably going one-two, Suggs would make a great bookend with Schoebel. Kelsay isn't a playmaker, and should be relegated to a backup/situational player. Channing Crowder, LB - With Poz and K-Mitchell in place, the injuries of Crowell and size of Ellison leave this spot wanting. Stealing a division rivals player would be sweet.
