  1. In full disclosure, I'm a big FSU fan and familiar with his game but I gotta say this was a great interview. Highlights:

    - He received a degree in December from FSU

    - He comes from a 2-parent home (very close to his father)

    - He compares himself to Dwight Freeney -- modeled his spin move after him

    - Has had 25 college starts, made 70 plays in the backfield (23 sacks + tackles for loss)

    - Is a HUGE student of the game, studies all defensive positions. Said during the summer 7-on-7 drills at FSU, would compete with the LB's and CB's and would pick their brain about what their assignments were, what they key on, etc.

    - Said when he arrived at FSU, Defensive Coordinator Mickey Andrews told him he was already a great pass rusher, but he'd better be able to stop the run too.

    - Official height is 6-1, 256. He ran 4.73 (plans to redo at Pro Day and thinks he can improve) also squats: 650 lbs, power cleans 400 lbs and did 26 bench press reps.

    - Considers his best game was at Miami and worst game against Virginia Tech (because he missed 3 tackles that could have been sacks).

    - His Pro day is scheduled for Monday.

Bottom line, I think this would be a great pick for us on draft day. Brown is fairly well versed and I can't stress enough how much he loves the game and is a student of the game -- something that differentiates good picks from "busts".

    Rack 'em!!

  2. This is interesting! If I were to trade Jason Peters there would be only two teams I would deal with, Detroit and St.Louis. Remember folks we have a two time Pro Bowler in his prime, that should equate to one of the top 2 picks in this years draft and a 3rd rounder. Who's to say that Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe will pan out to be the impact LT that Peters is. If this trade were to happen for the Bills I would first look to sign Orlando Pace as a stop gap LT for the season. With the Detroit or St. Louis pick I would take Aaron Curry in a heartbeat. With our pick at 11 I would still target Everette Brown or BJ Raji, which ever one is still there. Second round I'd probably still go with DL help, maybe Ayers. If he's not available then I may reach for Chase Coffman. Third round with our pick and the Detroit/St.Louis pick I would go Antoine Caldwell/Ron Brace. As far as the LT position goes I would hope that either Kirk Chambers or Demetrius Bell would learn how to man the position from Pace once is he gone.

  4. Brian's site is really good - I have been reading it for a little more than a year. It's nice to hear some one talk about the Bills and make some actual sense, as opposed to a lot of posters on this site and others as well as some media people.

Make actual sense? Really? How can he not have Everette Brown as a best fit for the Bills? Here are some scouts thoughts of Everette Brown and you tell me if he's not a best fit for the Bills.

Strengths: Tall, athletic frame that has the ability to add a bit more bulk...impressive first step, often beating defenders right from the start...difference maker, skilled at getting in the backfield and creating turnovers...possesses a number of pass rush moves for a collegiate end, including an impressive spin move...even played inside on some passing downs at FSU...strong junior season...showed the ability to play well in space...offers some scheme versatility...

Overall: Florida State's Everette Brown had a strong junior season, totaling 21.5 TFL and 13.5 sacks by consistently beating defenders with his speed and explosiveness. He has all the tools to succeed in the NFL but is likely going to need to add some strength to beat the top offensive tackles. He could project to a 4-3 scheme as a regular defensive end, particularly in a Cover 2 type system where he can focus on rushing the passer.

He was not just a "one year wonder" as the guy at Buffalo Rumblings implied.

Brown had an immediate impact for the ‘Noles as a freshman, earning Freshman All American honors after tallying 27 tackles, 13.5 for loss, and three sacks on the year. As a sophomore he started eight of 13 games, leading the team with 11.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks to go along with 37 tackles. Brown became a full time starter last year as a junior, and had a tremendous season. He had 36 tackles, 21.5 for loss, and 13.5 sacks on the year.

Sporting News has him listed as the 6th best prospect in the draft and even has the Lions taking him with the first pick in the draft. He is also described as having a non stop motor, and "leaves everything on the field". Per the interview he did on ESPN, he's not a partyer and loves the outdoors. He has down home qualities and would be the best fit for the Bills. I don't care what the guy at that other site thinks.

  5. I fire whoever is in charge of not filling needs before the draft with mid level free agents so I can have options in the draft (if that person is me in the bills system I fire myself and give my self a kick@ss severence package)

But see....if I was GM that would not happen because i would never allow myself to go into the draft would so many needs not addressed:

I sign one of the two OLB's that are still available that have played in a cover 2 system. I really dont want to take a LB in the first round unless it is Curry.

I sign either Mike Goff or Kendall Simmons so we can keep Hangarter at center. I still plan to take a center high in the draft but want to make sure I have a veteran offensive line in place so there can be competition in camp.

I sign Kalimba Edwards as a pass rushing specialist JUST IN CASE my first player that I want to choose (which woudl be Everett Brown) is gone. This will allow me to take a DE in the second round or in a trade down but not rely on him to have a immediate impact. if they do then I can cut Kelsay in camp.

In the draft I take Everett Brown in the first, best TE prospect in the second, best center available in the third, and from the 4th round on I pick players based off of ability but can also play special teams.

John, you are hired!! The private jet is on the way.

  6. I work at the Buffalo/Niagara airport (hence the name "Skycap") and unless he came in a disguise or flew in on Drew Rosenhaus private plane (they land at Prior aviation) NO ONE has seen T.O. come through the airport. I personally hope he is here and gets a contract. I have my contacts looking for his name on their manifests. If located I will update.

  7. Boy, do I hope this guy falls to the Bills at #11. He was very polite during his interview, but kept saying the two things fan like to hear. One, "he is a football player" and "he wants to be one of the best". Told the interviewer he wants to be the best defensive player in the draft. Watch the interview later, it will rerun on ESPN 2 later.

  8. Bertrand Berry from Scouts Inc:

    Birth Date August 15, 1975

    Birth Place Houston, TX

    Height 6-3

    Weight 260 lbs.

    Age 33

    Position DE

    Experience 11 years

    College Notre Dame

Grade: 71 | Grade means that player is a good starter.

    Alert: None

Comment: Berry is a blue-collared, hard working defensive end who gets everything out of his body that can be found. He is a decent athlete with adequate speed and agility, but compensates for his lack of top athleticism with a huge motor and top technique. He does a great job of reading blocks, locating the level of the ball and can adjust on the move. He does an excellent job using his hands to keep blockers at bay and rarely stays stuck on blocks for very long. He is more productive when away from the point of attack because he can struggle to hold his ground, but shows top effort and good angles on pursuit. He has developed a good series of counter moves as a pass-rusher and does not give up on plays. His biggest asset, aside from technique, is his initial quickness as a pass-rusher and he will flash a decent burst to close on the quarterback. He lacks the bulk and strength to be a force against the run, but he can be very effective as long as he isn't asked to play in a two-gap defense. He needs to be able to run and go to the ball. He has had a durability issue

Height, weight and comment about Berry, with the exception of the durability issue, are similar to the way scouts describe Everette Brown. That is why I would like the Bills to acquire him if they are able to draft Brown. Berry would be a great mentor for him. Thanks San Jose for the info, maybe this will calm some of the angst about Brown's size and abilty to play DE in the NFL.
