  1. The Bills plan on playing Jairus Byrd as FS, so its not a CB pick. Would have he have been available later on? Maybe, maybe not. One thing I do know is that a player who can generate turnovers in the secondary would be a welcome addition. Byrd had 17 interceptions over the last 3 years.

As for Everette Brown...if he were that good of a prospect, he would have went in R1. Almost every other team in the league passed over him at least once. They all had some concern about him. It should surprise no one that the Bills felt the same.

He went to Carolina with the very next pick. The Bills problem last year was NO PASS RUSH. Like I said Brandon, I once followed them BLINDLY.

  2. Being a member of this blog over the past year I have become acquainted with some of the most passionated Bills fans. We love our Bills and will sometimes follow them blindly, but in the past couple of weeks and most recently yesterday I have to question their M.O. Really, can someone please explain to me how in the world can you pass on one of the best pass rushers in college football for a cornerback. If I remember correctly our pass rush was putrid last year and with the chance to have two of the premier pass rushers in college on your roster you pass on him for an unknown cornerback because the defensive coordinator and head coach know his father. This guy, even if the Bills thought highly of him, could have been had later in the draft not in the second round. I as an avid fan didn't think that CB was an area of need. Yes, they say he will play safety but come on. We all seen the youtube videos of Everette Brown destroying passing attacks. Speaking on depth, how long do they expect Aaron Schobel to play at a high level. I thought Chris Kelsay was on the trading block. We could have had a pair of bookend DE's to raise havoc on the AFC East for years to come, but passed on the idea because we really needed a safety. The front office/coaching staff has really mishandled the roster of this team over the past couple of years. We wouldn't even be considering a safety had they known Jim Leonhard could actually play. Like I said, I was one who made excuses for some of the boneheaded willing and dealing that went at OBD from cutting Leonhard to trading away one of the best OT's in the league because they didn't have enough foresight to sign him to a modest contract last year. I've had enough of the current regime pulling on my heartstrings and just hope that one day Jim Kelly and his investment group take over my beloved Bills and put them back on track to the Super Bowl.

  3. The Patriots are trying to move into the Top-10 of the draft, according to SI's Peter King.

The Pats are believed to have offered their first-round pick and the middle of their three second-round picks for the Jags No. 8 overall pick, but Jacksonville turned it down. King does not believe the Pats are after Tyson Jackson despite his obvious fit as a 3-4 defensive end. The Pats' target is said to be a "surprise." Apr. 24 - 12:29 pm et

    Source: SI.com

    Who would they be targeting?

They want to snatch Everette Brown from the Bills. They need a pass rushing specialist as much as we do.

  4. It has to be a smokescreen. Right? But I just cant figure out how making teams believe this would help posture the Bills so they can get the player they really do want.

If this is true, like I said, I'm gonna be catching up on some yard work.

I think it is a smokescreen to start the run on OT's so that Everette Brown can fall into their laps at 11.

  5. The Bills may try to use #28 and a 4th/5th to move up and get Pettigrew. I personally hope not because they need to acquire a multitude of talent and for the simple fact that Chase Coffman can be had later in the draft without giving away picks. Chase Coffman reminds me of Jay Novacek, and I'd use my 2nd rd. pick on him before someone else grabs him.

  6. The Buffalo Bills hold nine picks, too many to pay all those salaries. They will attempt (and fail) to trade up for one of the Top 3 OT's. Then they will try to move up from 28 in RD1 for Pettigrew.

    11th---Everette Brown DE

28th--Brandon Pettigrew TE (may sacrifice a pick to get him earlier)

    42nd--Mack OC/OG or Eric Wood OG/OC

    75th---Andy Levitre OG

110th---(used to move up for Pettigrew)

    121st---Jonathan Casillas OLB

    147th--Scott McKillop ILB

    183rd--Otis Wiley SS

220th--Brannan Southerland FB or Drew Willey QB

I'll stand by your first two picks as well Astro, except Pettigrew will be taken at the 22nd pick with a trade with the Vikings. We need to get Pettigrew before the Falcons pick. Everette Brown will be the first pick because he is the best pass rusher in the draft. He is a student of the game and with his intelligence he will only get better. His character will help seal the deal.

  7. Is that how the Bills extended the contracts for McGee, Schoebel, Evans, Parrish, Butler in the last few years...If the Bills find talent who works with the team, they will find a way to get the deal done. The Bills have been fair to the folks who have been loyal to the team.

Shows you just how smart the front office is, the only one on the list that should have been extended was Lee Evans.

  8. I've been wanting us to sign Peters just as much as anyone, but I think the devil is in the details. $10 Million a year contract, we were reportedly offering something similar, and according to both camps, they were far apart. That tells me that Peters did not want to play in Buffalo, and the notion of that even up to yesterday to me seemed absurd.

Now I think that is exactly what it was.

Maybe the Bills didn't want to give him the "guaranteed money" he was looking for. Didn't Philly give him $20 mil. guaranteed? This trade still doesn't make sense to me. Andy Reid called him the best LT in the league and you don't trade the best LT in the league. The Bills need to learn how to build a championship from Bill Parcells. He didn't draft the best player available in last year's draft, he took the best LT in the draft. Parcells philosophy is to build from the inside out. OBD get a clue, please.

  9. Let me say that I hated to see Jason Peters get traded but I also didn't want no one on the team that didn't want to be here. Goodbye Jason, I hope the fans in Philly treat you like you deserve to be treated. I still think the Bills will take the DE(Everette Brown) at 11 and draft OT(Beatty or Britton) at 28.

  10. What I fear the most is a delay in determining this year's O-Line starter lineup. I hope the coaches know by minicamp.

BTW, don't discount Britton at #28:

Offensive Tackle Wonderlics - Eben Britton 31, Eugene Monroe 24, Jason Smith 23, Michael Oher 19, Andre Smith 17

    Or William Beatty from UConn

  11. Yeah, because that has been such a problem with this team, afterall, it has occurred once. So I guess we should organize the entire scheme around that one goal, rather than say, winning games.

And Peters isn't asking for more $ because there is a chance he might make the pro bowl. He actually did, twice. So equating my position that we ought to do what we can to keep a pro bowler on the roster and that failing to do so is just that, a failure, to "...giving every player a billion-dollar contract..." is shows just how irrational you have become on this issue. You tried this same line in a question to Tim G. and got essentially the same answer, that Peters' situation is unique and that it has not and will not set off some sort of domino effect on contract negotiations with other players.

A reasonable mind could certainly conclude that all things considered, the team's long term ability to be competetive is an interest best served by trading Peters and looking for an equally gifted but less expensive alternative at LT (good luck with that). But that really isn't the position that you've taken. Instead, you come up with ridiculous retorts like this. You assail the guy on a personal level at every chance as this has somehow become a moral crusade with you as if Peters was dating your daughter or spending your money.

My position is quite simple, this is a good player and goodness knows, we don't have an abundance of those hence the long playoff drought we are in. I don't follow the logic in the idea that we would become a better team, not a better girl scout troop mind you, by losing a pro bowler. My sole interest is in watching this team win football games, I don't see that interest being advanced by losing Peters. I recall taping a game, I think it was in 2006 when he was still playing on special teams. We had KR for a TD and when I replayed the tape, I could see Peters blocking one guy and throwing him like a rag doll into a second defender, knocking them both down and creating a hole the wider than Rosie Odonnel's hips. You could have scored a TD on that play.

Maybe you would like to see that talent in another team's uniform while we bite our nails watching Kirk Chambers take the field as a 16 game starter. With all due respect to Kirk, I know my preference. But then, I am a practical guy. I don't really care about contracts and promises and who is a nice guy and who isn't. I just want to win games. Good players win games. Bad players don't. Peters might be the biggest jerk on the planet but he is also a good player. A very good player.

And apart from the Peters haters on this board like yourself, everyone thinks so, especially the people that matter.

Amen Mickey!! Except Rick Gosselin from the Dallas News thinks that we have enough talent on our roster to have been in the playoffs for a couple of years now.

  12. I really doubt there are any hardcore racists in the NFL - you can't go to work with at least what, 40 black guys every day since you were 13 and still somehow have an intense hatred for their people.

OK Silvermike you can climb from under that rock now.

  13. 1) GameDay management. Our coaching staff can not get outcoached during games (i.e. challenge flags, when to run/pass, when to punt/go for it, etc.)

    2) Front office management. Let's be frank here, the guys in the front office have put the Bills in the situation they are in now. The Peters situation should have been handled last year when he could have been had for $8 million easily and Fred Jackson shouldn't even be an issue. It's starting to remind me of the Drury/Briere/Campbell situation with the Sabres. They reward/pay the guys who didn't deserve rewarding(Kelsay,Williams) and sh-- on those who do(Peters, Jackson).

  14. Are you crazy Rob Johnson needed a wall for an offensive line all JP needs is to be in an non-conservative offense if he was our QB this year he would be top 5 in the NFL. If he lands somewhere that he can compete for a starting job in a high powered offence you will see but because of the Bills he may not get that chance. You need to look at his numbers for passes greater than 20 yards. Maybe someday you will know what your talking about and you people will actually make sense. I can't stand reading all the garbage on these pages. Once in a while I see someone that might know what they are talking about but most of you sound like 12 year olds trying to talk football.

    LOS-manbeast

  15. From a Redskin Fan:

Now, to be fair to Casserly, Casserly did want to take Trent Dilfer and Joey Galloway in the '94 and '95 drafts, rather than Shuler and Westbrook, but Norv Turner overruled Casserly.

I'd have to think that the Redskins owner also has his hand in personnel decisions, although perhaps not as much as Jerry Jones.

If you watch the NFL network year round or NBC during football season you would know that Casserly's opinion is very highly regarded. The only thing I tune into that pregame show for is to hear what Cassely has to say each week.

Charlie Casserly,Mike Mayock and Charles Davis know a hella lot more about college football players then Mel Kiper,Tod McShay and the flock of other bozo's who most have never even heard of,and that have websites touting their mock drafts.

I'd rather trust someones opinion that I know has an actual football history rather then some unknown poster who puts up a draft site.

Wild Rabbit when did Norv Turner become the GM/boss and Casserly start coaching. Look everybody, the Bills are looking for a pass rusher not an every down DE. The Bills problem was not generating enough pass rush and Everette Brown is the best pass rusher in the draft! This is why he is a no brainer pick at 11. We want him to cause chaos on passing downs, that's it.

  16. In Pro Football Weekly today:

DE Everette Brown, Florida State (Jr.)

Questions still remain among the NFL scouting community about whether Brown is an elite talent. Some believe he is too stiff to be projected to rush linebacker and could not be more than an open-side end in the NFL, where his stock could be adversely affected because many fronts do not feature the position. However, much like Wimbley, no one is questioning his character, as Brown receives high marks for his work ethic, maturity and citizenship. His intelligence and approach in the classroom were given such high marks that he is viewed as being more intelligent than football-smart. Brown goes the extra mile to make a difference and can be expected to be a pillar of the community for the team that drafts him. Hailing from an unruly program known for its share of run-ins with the law, Brown stands out for his exceptionally strong character, warranting several votes for having the most rare character in this draft class.

    Strong Character, Sign him up!!

  17. I'm hoping that the Bills take either Robert Ayers or Tyson Jackson IF they go defense. I'd say take the "Rack" but he will be gone by 11th pick most certainly. I'm really fed up with the Bills inability to stop the run.

Maybin scares me with his recent weight gains, 25 lbs of muscle in 3 months just doesn't sound normal to me. Dunno, maybe its normal to Barry Bonds though.

I have no Idea as to why they have Everette Brown at #1, I hear he can only rush the passer and can't do much of anything else.

My question is why didn't any of the anonymous scouts mention Everette Brown in their observations?

  18. %100 DISAGREE

Good players find ways to make plays.

As much as you'd all like to blame the coach, he hasn't gotten the job done. Not only did he not become a good #2 WR, He couldn't get the job done as a slot WR, and now will most likely lose his job as the #4WR.

Could the coaches of found ways to use him more effectively? sure they could of. But it is clear that in order for him to have success as a WR you would have to devise creative ways in using him.

You guys are blinded by your bias towards Parrish. Blame the coaching staff, that's the easy way out, bottom line is he hasn't found a way to get open and he hasn't produced as a WR. Anyone who is not a Bills fan can see that.

Magox, I tend to agree with you more so than not, but coaching can deter a player's talents. Like I said in a previous post, Parrish should always be used in motion so that a DB can't jam him at the line of scrimmage. This was a primary reason that he wasn't getting open. And let's not forget that early in his career he had an incompetent QB (Losman) who only knew how to find two people, Lee Evans and the other teams DB. He had injuries with Edwards at QB that kept him off the field alot. I want to see him play a full year healthy w/Edwards before I turn the page on him.

  19. There is no reason, barring injury, that McKelvin shouldn't be returning every punt, kick, free kick, pooch, etc in 2010. Love Roscoe, but he has not been a reliable receiver, we have an instant replacement in the return game, and you can bring another pick in

Why do most people on this board want to get rid of established NFL players for draft picks? It doesn't make sense to me. Why don't the Patsies trade Tom Brady to the Lions for the first pick overall? People, instead of trying to rid the Bills of Jason Peters and Roscoe Parrish (two of the best at there crafts) why not ask yourself why Chris Kelsay is on this roster making 8 million dollars a year? Roscoe Parrish is a game changer as a return man and if used correctly in the offense he could have value there too. Roscoe should primarily be used in motion or coming out of the backfield getting mismatched against a LB or where a CB isn't allowed to jam him off the line of scrimmage. Roscoe Parrish is Devin Hester of Chicago and the Bears aren't looking to trade him!

  20. With Freddie and Peters complaining about being underpaid (they are), OBD should focus on whose overpaid; we already cut Dockery, why not Kelsay. Think about it, he makes 8 million a year, with that savings we coudl pay Peters long term, or in the very least up him for 09 and 10 and then replace him with a tackle like Bell or someone else we can develop in the next 2 years.

Furthermore, Kelsay is a waste of a roster spot; if we draft a DE early that would give us 5 DEs, not enough snaps to go around for Schobel, Kelsay, Denny, Ellis, and a rookie. In a perfect world we'd cut Kelsay, pay Peters, trade Roscoe for a 4th, and give the savings to Jackson, and then :

    1) Brown DE

    2) Cook TE

    3) Wood C/G

    4a) Follett LB

    4b) Ellison S

    5) Shipley C

    6) Miller DT

    7) Sutton RB

I don't know what type of salary cap hit they would take, but I love the idea and I especially love your draft. Tyrell Sutton in the 7th rd. would be a great pickup.
