In one sense, I’m slightly surprised Washington selected him, only because Daniels reminded me of RG3. It would be like the Bills drafting a WR named Zay or a DE from Penn State. Obviously they made the right call (unless Daniels gets hurt next week).

Bills now have the 6th youngest starting lineup in the NFL...

No, no I don’t. -
A small part of the Chiefs secret sauce.

Really? The call in Bills’ game was questionable? Best line I heard was that if Toney was any more Offside, Bills would have been called for 12 men on the field. -
Yeah, that’s going to be Rogers’ Achilles heel (pun intended?) this year. He can still throw the ball well enough but he’s old, slow and just can’t move anymore. If his line starts breaking down, it’s going to be ugly.

The NHL called and said “hold my beer.”

This is revisionist history. Bills were Super Bowl FAVORITES heading into that season. Bills’ options were to cut him or roster him. There was ZERO chance the Bills were going to endure daily distractions by rostering a player alleged to have raped a minor. ZERO. Fair? No, not fair at all but that was the reality at the time.

Good points. Made me reevaluate original post. It seems that if you throw out 2020 (no real "down" period, just got pounded by Titans once and Chiefs twice, Chiefs clearly were better team), the Bills have had positive and negative turning points in 2021, 2022 and 2023. That tells me the team (1) is resilient in the extreme (left for dead in both 2021 and 2023 and fought back to make playoffs both years) and (2) goes through a "funk" each year that can last several games. Not sure what it all means other than hopefully we don't lose to teams we should beat in 2024.

To some degree, every post on this forum is subjective. This one is really, REALLY subjective. What games over the last four years have been true turning points to the season, for better or worse? Given that the Bills haven’t made it to the Super Bowl over that time span, I’m going to be more of a pessimist than an optimist. 2023 - to me probably easiest call. Jacksonville. After a terrible loss opening night to the Jets, Bills demolish theee straight opponents, including the “unstoppable” Dolphins. But we go to London, neither offense nor defense plays particularly well, Jones and Milano are effectively lost for the season and we follow up with several weeks of uninspired play (near loss to awful Giants team and losses to bad NE and Denver teams). 2022 - I’ll go to my grave pointing to second half of Green Bay game as turning point. Up to that point, Bills looked hands down best team in the league (undefeated other than fluke loss in 120 degree heat in Miami). Starting in second half of GB game Allen didn’t look right and followed GB with loss to bad Jets team and ridiculous home loss to Vikings. Runner up. Non-game in Cincy when Hamlin almost died. Strange, strange season. 2021 - this is kind of cheating but 13 seconds even though it ended the season. It’s a turning point for the franchise until proven otherwise by a trip to the Super Bowl. Othwise, comeback against TB, despite overtime loss. Helped turn season around. 2020 - comeback win early in the season against the Rams. Showed that Allen had arrived as legitimate star and that Bills were SB contenders (despite being curb stomped by the Titans and the Chiefs - twice).

ESPN just released some predictions for 2024. Bills 7 - 10. Vikings #1 overall pick. In some alternate universe, I’m ok with this. Three picks in the 50, plus some cap space to play around with. Things could be worse.

Pro football is unique among the major sports in that injuries are so much more prevalent than in baseball, basketball and hockey. That’s one reason that no team has accomplished a Super Bowl three-peat. Look at the Chiefs. I don’t follow them very closely but they appear to have avoided major injuries in the last two Super Bowls. In the game against TB, they were missing both starting OT’s and got absolutely smoked.

I don’t watch a lot of college football so this is actually a serious question. Not talking 20/20 hindsight but why him over Mahones and Watson? His arm looks average. Same with accuracy. Some mobility but nothing special. Was it just the Bears screwing the pooch? If Bears didn’t take him would he have gone top 10? First round? Just curious.

Those are huge discrepancies between years. Any explanation? I presume caliber of competition is as good if not better in Big 10 as opposed to ACC. Offensive schemes run by Michigan State v. Florida State? Something else? -

Here’s something that I don’t understand. He doesn’t get separation but he has all these great times in the gauntlet. Separation doesn’t mean you run a fast 40. So what gives? Lack of quickness? Can “separation” be taught? -
I don't follow the college game. Is anyone bummed that Green Bay took Bullard two picks before we took Bishop? Bullard's highlights looked kind of awesome. How do the two rate vis-a-vis each other?

Live 2024 NFL Draft thread - Round 1 (Do NOT tip the Bills pick)
st pete gogolak replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Putting aside the Chiefs for a second, this was a pretty good first day for the Bills from an AFC East standpoint. Pats don’t get Daniels (who I think is a whole lot more dangerous than Maye), Jets don’t get one of the Big 3 WR’s or the top TE and Dolphins draft Aaron Maybin Part Deux. Let’s make some solid picks today and move forward. -

Your analysis by the way was spot on. What an awful draft. -

Butler had checked out by 2000. He was basically on his way to SD. Should have traded back for the Michigan QB in 2000. -
The Draft is a Total Crapshoot (Per Science)
st pete gogolak replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall
I remember Jimmy Johnson being a big believer in accumulating draft picks. Cowboys hit on quite a few but had their fair share of misses. I also recall his thoughts on kickers - “kickers are fungible”. -
Anyone outraged by Blacks’ reaction to the verdict needs to look at American history. How would you feel if you had witnessed whites being acquitted of murder by all-white juries hundreds, if not thousands of times - Emmett Till, Medger Evers, the list goes on and on - when obviously guilty. The OJ trial didn’t expose the American system of justice. It just exposed it to a different set of people.
