  1. Look at Butler's drafts from one perspective and one perspective only - 2018's QB-centric quarterback uber alles. If you look at his drafts from that vantage point, he was a total disaster. Waited way too long to look for a replacement for Kelly and when he did, he bombed with the Todd Collins pick. He made a very nice pickup with Flutie but then destroyed the value of that pickup by trading a #1 (no. 8 overall if I recall correctly) and a #4 for Rob Johnson and then compounds that mistake by handing Johnson a monster contract before he plays a down with us. John Butler had a lot of great qualities in regard to evaluating talent but one of the reasons for the 17 year playoff drought was Butler's utter inability to evaluate quarterbacks.
  2. I haven't seen any that make me really happy but two I saw today made me really sad. One had Bills giving up both #1's and both #2's to move up to second spot to pick Josh Allen. Second mock had us moving up to #9 to pick Lamar Jackson. Ugh. I understand that they've made all these moves to move up to get a high profile QB and I understand that they'll have to overpay to do it. What I'd hate to see is a scenario where they are grossly overpaying. If the move isn't there for an acceptable price, don't do it. If four (or five) quarterbacks go in the top 11, a very good football player will be there for us.
  3. Let me join the chorus on this topic. If Luck's shoulder is ok, it would be insane for the Colts to trade him for an unproven QB who will be the 2nd or 3rd QB taken in the draft. If his shoulder isn't ok, why would you want him?
  4. Goodness gracious, have you actually watched him play the last two years? What do you think he will look like FOUR years from now? My point is that the Giants are in a position to draft a potential franchise QB at a time when their guy is 36 years old. That's incredibly lucky timing. No way are they going to pass on a QB even if they wring another year or two out of Manning.
  5. The Giants are drafting a QB as well. They've got an aging QB near the end of the road. They crapped the bed at just the right time to get a potential franchise QB in a QB heavy draft. Why in the world would they trade out of that spot?
  6. If one point of this thread is that McDermott is way too conservative to be a coach who wins a Super Bowl (closer to Marrone than Peterson), yeah, I agree 100%. Punting in overtime against the Colts when a tie puts you out of playoff contention? You've got to be kidding. My son and I attended the Jaguars game. I started walking out when we punted on fourth down with a couple of minutes left in the game. Can a coach change from ultra-conservative to something less than that? I sure as hell hope so. How about this? Next preseason, don't punt on 4th and 1 from the opponent's 40 yard line. Maybe don't even punt at all. Be hyper-aggressive and see how it works out.
  7. His tenure at Detroit wasn't a "disaster". He took an 0-16 (0-16!) team and had them in the playoffs in his third year. Oh yeah, a guy named Belichick was a "disaster" in his first HC job at Cleveland. All I'm saying is I'm surprised he is not a top tier candidate for one of the many HC openings in the league right now.
  8. Maybe I missed it but I haven't seen any reports linking Jim Schwartz to any of the head coach vacancies. I think that's nuts. Guy did a great job as DC in Tennessee, did a respectable - not great - job as HC in Detroit, great job as DC with the Bills and great job as DC with the Eagles. At a minimum, you know you're going to get a really good defensive mind if you hire him. One of the Bills biggest mistakes in the last ten years (and God knows there have been enough of them) was not making Schwartz HC after Marrone bolted, or at least throwing a bunch of money at him to keep him as DC and hire an offensive minded head coach. Thanks, Terry!!
  9. Peterman's ceiling is Frank Reich, which isn't a bad ceiling but it's not who you want as your starting QB in a QB dominated league.
  10. I was at that game against the LOS ANGELES Raiders. Nosebleed seats in the Coliseum. Great game. Norwood was awful. Raiders sat on their lead in the second half and it blew up on them. It's 20/20 hindsight but instead of picking Conlan (a terrific player) how about picking Jerome Brown and teaming him up with Bruce Smith to wreck havoc on opposing OL's?
  11. Point two is really a good point. I've seen many commentators talk about how easy NE has had it over the years because of the weakness of the other teams in their division. But look at it from the other side. If Miami, Bills and Jets are starting off the year 0-2, chances of making the playoffs are slim to none and that's been borne out over the last seventeen years.
  12. Hey, this gives Hue Jackson a shot at obliterating Harvey Johnson's record as worst head coach of all time. Harvey was 2-23-1 in two interim stints with the Bills and if my math is right Jackson is a scintillating 1-27 with the Browns.
  13. If we missed the deadline it is nothing but monumentally stupid.
  14. Sorry if this is addressed in a different thread but can we still get the round #3 comp pick by releasing some combination of Vlad, DiMarco, Holmes, et al? If we did miss the deadline for the comp pick, these guys are dumber than I thought.
  15. Tell me again how many teams have allowed 135 points IN THE LAST THREE GAMES.
  16. What if anything will make you reconsider staying a loyal Buffalo Bill fan come opening day of the 2018 season? For me it will be seeing Jordan Mills starting at right tackle.
  17. I'm not letting the Pegula's off the hook, but it's not for the McDermott hire. When Marrone bolted they had a perfectly competent NFL coach in their employ - Jim Schwartz - who had done really good things with the defense. They could have made him head coach or they could have thrown enough money at him to convince him to stay on as d- coordinator and find an offensive minded head coach. Instead, they hire the assclown who proceeds to destroy the D and set the franchise back a couple of more years. Yeah, the Pegula's don't get out of this scott free.
  18. I think one of the big issues are problems that surfaced last night and smacked us in the face are problems that every single poster has complained about at one time or another (1) Tolbert isn't an adequate back-up to McCoy; (2) Ducasse has absolutely no business being on a football field; (3) Dennison's playcalling stinks. I'm not going to go crazy after one bad performance in which a lot of weird breaks when against us and I generally like what McDermott and Beane are doing but it's irritating seeing obvious flaws not being addressed.
  19. Another reason to hate Marcell: 2011 NFL Draft #3 Marcell Dareus #4 A. J. Green Of course, it would have been stupid to waste a top three draft pick on a receiver without a quarterback who could throw the ball to him. Hey wait a minute. . .
  20. I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this but it's absolutely mind-blowing that the Bills have spent two #1's (Sammy), two #2's (Woods, Jones), two #3's (Graham, Goodwin) and a #4 (Sammy again) (not even counting trading a #2 (Darby) for a WR) IN THE LAST SIX YEARS and we arguably have the worst WR group in the league. How is that even possible?
  21. A few years ago, the Rams had Isaac Bruce, who at the time was a top ten receiver, and they selected Torry Holt with a top six or seven pick. At the time, I thought it was a very odd selection. It turns out that pick (plus lucking out with Kurt Warner) won the Rams a Super Bowl.
  22. TJ Graham and another #4 for Sammy.
  23. Not a criticism of the OP, more of a damnation of the front office, but let's not forget that this is a team that has spent 2 #1's, a #2, 2 #3's and a #4 on WR's in the last four drafts. And we now need to find another one! Good grief!!!!
