  1. If the Browns clean house, I’d love to bring Schwartz in as DC. What the team needs is a fresh take on defensive philosophy. It won’t happen, of course. McDermott won’t ever allow it. Schwartz probably wants nothing to do with a franchise that wanted Rex Ryan over him.
  2. I was pulling for Bengals over Broncos because I wanted to see Colts sneak in as #7 seed. Oops. Now I want to see Bengals beat Steelers to put Chargers in as #5 seed (I think Chargers have best shot at beating Chiefs in Divisional Round). I think I’ll get my wish on Saturday but if Broncos and Dolphins lose on Sunday, yikes. Want no part of Burroww under any circumstances.
  3. True but still why not schedule games at same time Sunday? There were other games that could have been scheduled Saturday.
  4. WTF! Ravens -Browns play Saturday afternoon; Bengals - Steelers play Saturday night. I thought the NFL avoids this kind of thing. If Ravens win (they will), Steelers rest everyone and give game to Bengals. Sorry if someone else posted this already but really WTF!
  5. Coleman TD v. Seattle was pretty cool.
  6. Wasn’t concerned about the Bengals because NO WAY are the Colts losing to either the Giants or the the Jags. Ugh. Now, I’m a little concerned.
  7. Are there Tom Grossi fans out there? Every time I see a flag, I’m thinking of Tom wearing his referee jersey saying “flag”.
  8. Agree 100%. How is he not already in?
  9. We absolutely stunk up the joint in Houston. We were fortunate to be in that game at all. You’re talking about end of game decisions. Better decisions probably gets us to overtime. No guarantee we win (although Allen is due to win an overtime game one of these years). Rams game, defense was beyond atrocious. We accepted the penalty and put them in 3rd and 17. They converted the 4th and 5. You don’t think they would have converted 4th and 7? Big mistake taking time out at the end but again, would we have prevented Rams from getting first down to ice game? Probably not. In what was supposed to be a down year, you just cannot complain about a 12 - 3 record.
  10. There’s my man Pete kicking FG’s! Please don’t look at his career stats. No fair comparing kickers from the ‘60’s to modern kickers.
  11. Well, you got one out of two correct. As far as D, Wade one and Schwartz a distant second.
  12. Reggie White would like a word.
  13. Jackson has had an outstanding 2024 season but if Josh Allen wins MVP this season it just makes up for Jackson getting the award over Josh last year.
  14. I feel that folks are way over critical of Elam’s play yesterday. The TD to Boutte was a perfect throw to a well covered receiver (#3 top play on Sportscenter). The first DPI was ticky tack, second was deserved. Wasn’t a great game but wasn’t horrible either.
  15. Not worried about the game in general. Chiefs have won enough games like this this year (Raiders game in particular). I am worried about how bad the defense looked in the first quarter. Offense is going to be back pretty much intact next year (other than maybe Cooper and Ty Johnson. Sorry to say but any FA’s and the high draft picks are all going to go to defense.
  16. Oh, you mean megahurts. Very nice.
  17. I hope he plays against Houston. Anderson and Hunter going up against KC’s OT’s is going to be fun.
  18. The thing that totallly screwed the Lion’s strategy was a great play by Hollins. I assume Campbell thought worst case scenario was Bills’ ball on Lion’s 45 yard line. Hold Bills without a first down (unlikely), Bills punt. Hold them to a field goal (with Bills burning significantly less time off the clock than if you kicked deep) and Lions win with two TD’s. Again, risky but not totally moronic.
  19. The point of the thread is that it wasn’t idiotic. It was a high risk gamble but there were some non-crazy analytics behind it.
  20. The pundits lambasting Campbell for the onside kick are ignoring the new kickoff rules. If you “kick it deep”, Bills get the ball on their 30. Failed onside kick should give the Bills the ball on the Lion’s 45. So you’re giving up 25 yards for a less than 5% chance of retaining possession. Probably not smart analytics but not entirely nuts. What screwed it up was Hollins making a really nice play to put the ball on the Lion’s 5 yard line. Also, I liked Lion’s final onside attempt. Reminded me of our onside kick in Comeback Game. Christie dribbles it directly in front of him, Pike wipes out defender and Christie falls on the ball. We stole the play from Denver which used it against us the previous year. Detroit kicker had to contort himself to kick it “straight”, there’s no element of surprise and it may be borderline illegal under new rules but it’s better than most attempts I’ve seen.
  21. Don’t forget Geno Smith was a Jet draft pick as well. Just waiting on Zach Wilson to have break out season.
  22. I’ve come around on the false start and accepting the holding penalty. 4th and 5, 4th and 7, 4th and 10, the Rams are going for it on that series and they probably make it. Giving up 12 yards on 3rd and 17 was a killer.
  23. Remember the Greatest Show on Turf? Warner throwing to Bruce and Holt, Marshall Faulk running and catching? Their defense had mediocre talent (quick- name someone on that defense other than London Fletcher) but it was absolutely designed to be in sync with a high powered offense. Ultra aggressive, designed to come up with a few big plays a game. Same with KC when they had Hill and in his prime Kelce but their defense wasn’t the shutdown defense it is now. But Spagnola was very aggressive and came up with a couple of big plays per game, enough to win a couple of Super Bowls. It’s undoubtedly too late this year to do a 180 degree turnaround but if we don’t have playoff success this year, we absolutely need to go in a different direction next year. You know what they say about the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
  24. I know it won’t happen, but my God, can we use the last four games to at least experiment a little with the D? Use Elam in some man coverage. Play a 4 -3 with Williams on the field and TJ as free safety, play a 3 - 4 with Carter on the nose and TJ as fourth backer. Blitz like a maniac one game. Play Bishop. Maybe there is not enough talent on the D to win a championship. That’s a real possibility. But you are not - you are never - winning a championship playing soft zone with a porous run D and a substandard pass rush.
  25. Rapp and Hamlin 26 total tackles. The ENTIRE defensive line 18. Fellas, I think that’s the story right there.
