Davis wasn't the reason we lost last night. Oh, wait a minute, we actually won by 10 points. In all seriousness, he had a rough game, couple of drops, stupid penalty. He's a very good #2. Remember, he was hurt and basically gutted through a couple of games. He also comes up big in big games. We don't need receivers. Maybe some backup help on the OL and safety depending on how serious Poyer's injury is.

Tougher division foes down the stretch BUF or KC
st pete gogolak replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Chiefs easily could have (should have?) already lost to both the Chargers and the Raiders at home this season. I don't think any of their remaining divisional games will be walkovers. After watching Jets - Pats yesterday, I'd rather play Wilson, Jones and Tua than Herbert, Carr and Wilson. -
[Name Only Title] Kareem Hunt ??????????????????
st pete gogolak replied to Paul Costa's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why did the Bills cut Azaria loose before the allegations were proven true? The question answers itself. -
They're terrible. I think the Bears are much better off with designed runs for him.

Looked at his Super Bowl stats. Not only did he win the majority of his SB's after age 37 (which in and of itself is insane) but his stats while he was in his "prime" were pretty pedestrian. After 37? Pretty awesome. If he's clean, it's the biggest anomaly in sport history.

It's Wide Right. It's the Music City Miracle. It's 13 Seconds. Toss in the Harmon Drop, "Just Give It To Them", the Hail Murray and a few others. Sprinkle in a little Sabres history too (No Goal). If there was a Super Bowl win mixed in with the rest, it wouldn't be nearly as bad, but there isn't so we feel especially snake bitten. Let me add a comment on thirteen seconds. I thought we had the game won but only for a millisecond. Butker has a big leg and I was immediately worried about a very long distance FG (60 plus yards). He hit from 62 against us last week so that was a legitimate concern. OK, we screw up the kickoff and no time burned and they are starting from their 25. To get to makeable FG range (less than 65 yards) they need to go from the 25 to somewhere around our 45. Thirty yards in 13 seconds with all their timeouts. As said in Godfather Part II about assassinating Hyman Roth, "Difficult, not impossible." It was absolutely ludicrous to play a prevent defense with your safeties 30 yards off the line of scrimmage unless you are playing for a tie. Hell, even if we went for two at the end and converted, KC would have had a legitimate shot at the end zone with the last play of the game. I do believe, however, that this year will be different. I can't believe they will ever take their foot off the pedal.

I'm old enough to actually remember when Pete Gogolak kicked for the Bills. I currently live in St. Petersburg FL so there's the name. The picture is from the 1965 Topps AFL series, which is a pretty sweet set. It has Joe Namath's rookie card and a nice set of old time Bills (Kemp, Sestak, etc.) on a pink background of all colors.

Why is Daryl Williams Still a Free Agent?
st pete gogolak replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
I didn't mean to imply that just because he CAN still play that he MUST play. Didn't realize he retired. Good for him. Wouldn't begrudge any NFL player a dime of their salary or making a decision to quit when still healthy or if they simply decided that they had had enough and didn't enjoy playing the game anymore. Still would like a little more depth on the interior OL however. -
The reason I like Daryl Williams is that he ended the seemingly never-ending nightmare of Jordan Mills being our starting RT. Granted he was not great last year and fully expected him to be a cap casualty but I'm surprised he is still on the market. For the right price, I think he would be a nice fit as backup guard/tackle, especially with Spencer Brown missing some time. What's the deal? Is he out of shape? No longer interested in playing football? There's got to be a reason he is unsigned.

Trade Deadline (Nov 1) Bills Rumors / Speculation
st pete gogolak replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, assuming we don't go after any "big" names (I assume we won't), I'd like to see some help on the interior OL. Not a starter, just someone who can back up inside and maybe flip outside if needed. Someone better than Bobby Hart. -
PFF grades from KC...(for what they're worth)
st pete gogolak replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
The guards have already gone up against Donald, Simmons, Campbell, Heywood and Jones and survived. Is Williams better than Donald? They'll be all right. -
Forget CMC. Do the Panthers have any decent interior linemen on the block? How overweight is Daryl Williams at this point and how quickly can he get back into football shape?

Wow! We're Really Good at Stopping the Run!
st pete gogolak replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly! Second in YPA is impressive no matter what else is going on in the game. -
One of the big concerns about Bills' D in 2020 and 2021 was its inconsistency at stopping the run (2020 home game against the Chiefs, 2021 Jonathan Taylor debacle being a couple of examples). We were not 2021 Chargers bad but very middle of the pack. This year - first in YPG and second in YPA. Tremendous. Don't know if it's Jones being 100% better than Star or DE's that play the run well (Lawson, Rousseau, et al.) or a combination of things but it is great to see. Used to be worried about teams that run the ball well but this year - Jets, Pats, Browns - bring them on!

Philly only unbeaten after Thursday. 17-0?
st pete gogolak replied to 1onemangang7's topic in The Stadium Wall
They're not good enough to go unbeaten, even with all the cupcakes on the schedule. Simple as that. -
Nobody wants to rehash the end of last year's playoff game, but the 62 yard Butker FG (which would have been good from at least 67 yards out) shows that coaching hasn't caught up with what modern NFL kickers are capable of. If your kickoff is a touchback with no time off the clock, you start at the 25 and need - what? - 30 yards? - to be in legitimate FG range. That's true for a whole bunch of kickers, Butker, Tucker, Bass and a lot more. Is it a gimme? No, but it is makeable. 30 yards with timeouts and 13 seconds left? Very doable. 30 seconds left? An eternity. If you're protecting a 1, 2 or 3 point lead in the last minute of a game, you just can't play soft, prevent defense. Today's kickers are jut too good. We might be 6 - 0 if we had called a running play in Miami on the play Quessenberry was called for the hold. A couple of yards and Bass is attempting a 50 something yard FG. These days, that is makeable.
-
That was actually in my post i.e. "journeyman kicker". Butker was in the playoff game last year and Butker does indeed have a big leg. These days, if you are trying to keep the opposing team from kicking a game tying or game winning FG at the end of regulation, you better keep them on their side of the 50 at least.
-
It may have been mentioned in this thread previously (sorry, not going through 68 pages!) but did you notice Raiders kicked off with 17 seconds left in the first half and Chiefs ended up kicking a FG to cut lead to 20 - 10? Raiders didn't do a pooch kick, played soft (and committed personal foul to boot) and lo and behold, journeyman kicker boots a 59 yard field goal. That was my real concern in last year's playoff game. Butkner has a big leg. I thought if Chiefs make to our 45 they're going to have shot at tying the game.

Orlovsky: Bills have become one of best screen teams
st pete gogolak replied to Steel City Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would have guessed we have the worst screen game going. Did we throw a screen against Miami? A draw? It's all hindsight but a screen on the last drive against Miami could have ended up with us kicking a game winning field goal. The Singletary play against the Ravens was a good call, incredibly well executed but hardly a classic screen. -
Chiefs looking very scary last night. Couldn't believe how easily they ran on Vea and the Bucs. How much better does Pacheco look than Cook? Kelce looked unstoppable. Game in a couple of weeks will be monumental. Need Poyer for sure. Keep everything in front on D and hopefully contain Chris Jones on O.

Worried about Cook……is it too early?
st pete gogolak replied to streetkings01's topic in The Stadium Wall
Two words. Alexander Nylander. Seriously, it's early but it would be nice if he had shown something at some point. -
I was surprised going back and looking at play by play of Dolphins game that Bills were perhaps already in Bass' field goal range at end of game. Situation was second and ten on Miami 43 with 22 seconds left, no timeouts. Next play was holding penalty. Was 60 yards within Bass' range? How about a draw, pick up a few yards, spike, FG attempt from 55 - 56 yards. I know that every possible scenario from the game has been beat to death but I'm wondering if 38 yard miss influenced decisions near end of game.
-
100% guarantee. Zero chance of this being overturned. He hadn't completed catch and ball was knocked out of his hands. Good play by Dolphins' DB, less than great play by Davis. Reminiscent of drop by Lee Evans in Pats - Ravens playoff game a few years ago. Catch would have given Ravens win but DB knocked ball out of his hands after catch. More Brady magic.
