I see what you're saying, but I think they needed to show that to unscore how frantic he was about getting to the hospital. It added to the illusion that he was rushing there to see the birth of his own child.

When they were at Jin's grave, I totally felt like they were missing him rather than grieving for him. Hurley has shown emotion in the past, and the fact that he wasn't emotional at all at the grave signaled to me that Jim was likely alive and still on the island.

Great episode last night. So many thoughts that need to be spewed out...thumbsup: So...the first thing I wanted to see was what was the date of Jin's death. So, a screenshot at this link (http://lost.cubit.net/archives/2008/03/4x07-jins-tombstone.php#more) shows that his date of death was...September 22, 2004. As we all know...that is the date that Oceanic Flight 815 crashed. It is clear that the following happened: We know that Sun is the last member of the Oceanic Six. Which means that Jin did not return from the island. The fact that the date of death on his headstone is the date of the crash means that the Six maintained to the outside world that Jim died in the crash. What most likely actually happened is that only a few people were able to make it off the island, and Sun was one of them so that she and her baby would survive. Jin was likely left behind, and is also probably still alive. In regards to Michael...I posted last week that only 17 island days had transpired between the date that Michael and Walt left and the date that Naomi arrived. We didn't know how much real-world time had transpired during that time. I had thought that perhaps the freighter had picked both Michael and Walt up, assuming that not enough real-world time had transpired for them to get back to at least Hawaii, and then for Michael to get on the freighter for the trip back to the island. Clearly I was wrong. Enough real-world time must have transpired for Michael to get back, and then somehow get himself hired on as a crew member. The fact that he did makes it pretty clear that there was prior knowledge of the freighter...making it likely that he is Ben's man on the boat. That's enough for now.

Hi guys! So I heard about this new show about plane crash survivors on an island somewhere in the Pacific. The previews look kinda cool, though I have a feeling it's going to be boring, predictable, and not likely to inspire much discussion here on the board.

Isn't part of the fun of this show looking for stuff like that? I'm always scouring backgrounds, desktops, etc. for possibly meaningful things.

Some thoughts from a very entertaining episode last night... I agree with some of the previous posts...Desmond is a fascinating character. He does seem to always make the wrong decisions, though I think he did make the right one last night by saving Charlie. If you go by the theory that the island is testing people, then his visions and now the temptation to not save Charlie for the sake of possibly seeing Penny was a huge test. I think he passed that test as he put Charlie's well begin before his own desire to see Penny. One would have to believe that Penny was also on that helicoptor because of the picture being used as a bookmark. Unlikely that someone else would be doing that, unless that was the only picture of Desmond that Penny had and she had given it to the coptor crew to help them ID Des. The coptor crashed in the ocean, and it did look like there were two beacons in the sky. Welcome back hot Kate! The dressing scene in the tent was HOT! I like Sawyer telling her that if she wants him, all she needs to do is ask. Jack is such a wieney...and I like how Hugo has been becoming more of a stronger individual...especially since he came back. I agree with the idea that Kate is going to become preg from Sawyer, and that this could be a big part of the final pieces of this puzzle. Overall...a good episode. Only four more!!!!

Indeed. That sub doesn't seem like it would be appropriate for a long ride. More then likely is that the sub is used to get out past some distance from the island where a boat is met for the rest of the trip to the mainland.

Excellent posts about last nights show. While I don't have it in me to go off like tgreg99, I do have these thoughts: I think Julia intends to stay with the Lostaways. I agree that she is playing both sides against each other right now, but in the end, I think she wants Ben dead. I think the fact that emphasis was placed on her tying the knot on her shelter tight was meant to infer permenance...i.e. she intends to use that shelter longer then just a few more days. The fact that Ben was born on the island does not mean he was concieved there. He could be like Aaron, having come there in utero. If women who get pregnant on the island die, then we better watch out for Kate. I think that Sun is probably carry that other guys baby, so she's OK. I like the kidnapping angle as the only way they can bring up new others. Let's review some facts/assumptions regarding the hurt/healed/killed: Locke (good person?) = healed Rose (good person) = healed Charlie (good person) = almost died by hanging, lived Sayid (bad person?) = shot and healed Shannon (bad person) = shot and killed Boone (good person?) = dead (sacrifice to the island?) Hurley (good person) = has dodged MANY a bullet and thrives Sawyer (bad person?) = shot and healed Desmond (good person) = blown out of the hatch and lives Mr. Eko (bad person) = killed by the monster Ana (bad person) = shot and killed Libby (bad person?) = shot and killed Paulo (bad person) = dead (come on...it's been a few days under the sand by now) Nikki (bad person) = dead (see above) Numerous peripheral Lostaways (assume good people) = dead Numerous Others (bad people) = dead Think of how many Others have died since the crash...lots. If they were so good, as they seem to be looking for in the Lostaways, wouldn't the healing powers of the island come to their aid? What's going on on the island in terms of healing is what Ben is researching. I think he's made the assumption that because his people have remained healthy, they are the good ones. He looks for the good people because he knows that the island would not allow the bad ones to survive. "Good people" will either stay healthy or be healed. Now that he's apparently not cancer free, maybe that's a sign from the island that it's opinion of him is changing. And what's been going on here has had to have been going on for a long long time (don't forget the Blackrock). I think people have been coming to the island way before Ben was born there. I think I've made myself more confused then over!

What a great discussion of a great episode...reminds me of seasons past when there was a thread like this for every episode! My thoughts on last night... How great was Hurley snowing Sawyer and getting him to play nice? I think Sawyer changes his ways is going to be critical to his position in everything down the road. I had discussed his becoming "gooder" after last weeks episode in regards to his apparent new passion for reading. The whole thing with the gas is kind of odd. Why did all the other don gas masks and then run off? It sounds like the gas was only used in confined spaces for Kate and Julia, so why wear the masks outdoors like that? And did Jack get gassed too? I don't think so...it looks more like he got beat up. What struck me about Kate and Julia, apart from the fact that they are both so hot (I was VERY happy when it started to rain!), is how much taller then Kate Julia is. I think Sayid is extremely suspicious about Julia due to the fact that he pretty much got burned by Ben. Had he had his way with Ben, things would be a lot different now. Food for thought...why did Ben allow himself to be captured? He's too smart to have been caught be accident, so why did he do it? He had to know how dangerous it could be (he knew all about every one of the Lostaways, including Sayid). While he is a master manipulator, how could he be so sure that they wouldn't kill him? Was it all to get Jack to come and do surgery on him? The monster...cool! It was def scanning Julia...it has never "seen" her before. I think it has all the info it needs about Kate. I still think it is a remanent security measure (hence the scanning of people) rather then a device run by a third group. Locke really has what he wants...permanancy on the island. Now he can fulfill his secondary goal of finding out more about it. And am I the only person who thinks that his Dad was a ghost image rather then being there for real (think of all the other ghost images that the island has produced). So good to be posting inspired thoughts about this show!

Sounds like a lot of people on this board...

But don't you think that being on the island has given him the chance to explore his more thoughtful side? Maybe he's gradually going to become someone who doesn't necessarily want to leave...

Here's an observation I made that could mean nothing..or perhaps something. Has anyone else noticed that pretty much every time Sawyer is shown relaxing, he's reading? Somehow I doubt that James was such an avid reader back home. Could it be that a more cerebreal sawyer is starting to emerge? Could it be that a slow transition is taking place from the bad Sawyer to one that is more of a "good guy?" I just realized that a lot of emphasis is placed on showing him with his nose in a book...in almost every episode. Plus he doesn't seem to worried about Kate, Locke and Sayid being gone. Just food for thought.

As entertaining as it was to see those two get buried alive, I really don't understand the purpose of the entire episode. No questions were answered and no plot lines were advanced. To me, the Nikki and Paulo characters really had no purpose. To go through the trouble of green-screening them in just to have the killed off like that...? So, my guess is that we've not seen the last of them. Here are my thoughts... Nikki did say paralyzed, though it was more garbled at the begining so as not it give away; They will return because, remember what Locke said..."Nothing stays buried on this island for long." I may credit the dog (WTF is its name...I forget) with digging them up (or digging enough that people can hear them scream). I think the Sawyer - Jin thing may come in to play towards the end of this season. The more I think about it, the more I believe that they'll both be back...if not, it ends up being kind of a dead-end episode.

Not that I'm a big fan of litigation, but she should turn around sue the sh-- out of the school district for insufficent parking, which obviously put her in a position where her well-being was in danger. She'll make out a hell of alot better with the suit then with the workers comp claim. -

I think when making this choice one has to consider how big an impact the bust had on the team. You have to go with the guy that would have meant the most to his team and would have made the most impact over the course of his career. To me that has to be a QB, and as a result, I have to go with Ryan Leaf, with an honorable mention to Todd Marinovich (another suck wad who beat us).

I went with the $85 mid-level side view seats rather then the wife-enraging $145 floor/lower-level side seats. And I'm not expecting a BJ either way. -

Damn straight it is...loved that album! And Gilmour in concert was awesome (RCMH, April 2006). Just being able to see him and Richard Wright to Echoes live was worth the price of admission. And of course, watching Dave do Comfortably Numb was great! -

Great post! I agree 100%. I finally broke down and bought tix to see him in NJ in May. I had been boycotting him all these years for the same reason you have your grudge. Since Live 8, however, I've soften on him, especially when I hear him say he would tour with the band again. -
