Peters is no Mauer or Morneau, he's got a lot of talent, but he doesn't play like a pro bowler.i'm curious now that he has his money what is his motivation? We ante'd up for Evans and Stroud and I feel those two have been for more reliable than Peters.

i don't see why we can't just rip up the current contract, give him $8 million this year and 9 next, promise not to franchise him in 2011, so he'll still be motivated. That way he gets a fair deal, with incentive not to play like he did last year, and in the mean time we can draft a mid round OT to develop, along with Bell, as LT of the future.

no malcom jenkins, remember where he went to school; we can always get a 'high motor' DE in rd 2, like in '01, '02, '03, with Schobel, Denney, and Kelsay!

guess i was wrong; i thought we still owed him a lot of $$. I just don't want to have trade Peters b/c of someone who isn't producing, but if he's only making a couple million, welll. . . he's playing like it and can't really hold anything against him.

maybe not a 3 down player, but that's why we have Denney and Ellis, it'd be a nice rotation with those 4. BTW i don't dislike Kelsay, he's OK, but for the money he makes and our situation with Peters and Jackson i think it could be spent in a wiser fashion than on a slightly below average DE.

With Freddie and Peters complaining about being underpaid (they are), OBD should focus on whose overpaid; we already cut Dockery, why not Kelsay. Think about it, he makes 8 million a year, with that savings we coudl pay Peters long term, or in the very least up him for 09 and 10 and then replace him with a tackle like Bell or someone else we can develop in the next 2 years. Furthermore, Kelsay is a waste of a roster spot; if we draft a DE early that would give us 5 DEs, not enough snaps to go around for Schobel, Kelsay, Denny, Ellis, and a rookie. In a perfect world we'd cut Kelsay, pay Peters, trade Roscoe for a 4th, and give the savings to Jackson, and then : 1) Brown DE 2) Cook TE 3) Wood C/G 4a) Follett LB 4b) Ellison S 5) Shipley C 6) Miller DT 7) Sutton RB

reed is a good #2, just a different kind. he's like a bobby engram possession type receiver that people typically associate with slot receivers who are typically thought of as #3s. Reed however, produces like a #2, he had 56 catches and missed 4 games, if he had played he would have had like 70 catches and been our leading receiver; and we all know how trent plays when Reed is out. It was no coincidence that Reed's injury and Trent's slide into medioccrity or worse happeneedd at exactly the same time. I'm not saying i'd be averse to WR help, especially a tall WR on the outside to be a red zone threat (what we thought Hardy was) to help out the offense but Reed is integral and needs to be on the field more often than not. Another dumb stat i came up with, and i know its pretty meaningless, but . . . our record when Reed and Trent our on the field together in the 4th quarter: 7-1 (the 1 was the last game of the year), without Trent/Reed 0-8. telling kind of.

C and TE are the biggest offseason needs and i'm convinced there is no way that Preston is back as a starter or that Fine will inherit the TE spot from worst TE in NFL history Robert Royal. As such, i also don't see them drafting two new starters and making an already young offense even younger, plus we've all seen the learning curve for a receiver (hardy). If we had the option of filling the voids, one as FA/trade and the other a pick how would you go about it. C (vets) TE vets Birk MIN Scaife TEN Brown BAL Smith PHI Saturday IND Daniels HOU (RFA) which would probably cost a #2 Meester JAC C (rookies) TE rookies Mack Cal Pettigrew Unger ORE Coffman Wood LOU Beckum Caldwell ALA Cook I'd go with Owen Daniels and draft Caldwell or Wood in the third. the only difference would be that big ben would not have won a super bowl and probably would have been benched by year2. Not his fault but we would have no receivers, no OL and no D, one man does not make a team, that being said i sure as hell wish we had him!!! (though i'm still high on trent, i think)

Evans - best big play threat, not often enough (3 TDs!!) 8. Edwards - he's who were all counting on. 9. Pozlusny - led the team in tackles which is saying something i guess 10. id say stroud is above average, so is a healthy crowell, as well as mcgee

If we address our backup QB via FA and draft a stud DE (Orapko, Brown, etc) at #11, where do we address our needs at C and TE. I think everyone, maybe even DJ, would agree Royal and Preston will not be starting next season. Preston i like as a back up for his versatility and Royal might want to look into arena football, oh wait there cancelled, maybe he can go to the United Indoor football league and play for Freddie's old team!! As for TE it looks like there are Coffman, Pettigrew, and Beckum as the best candidates and at least 1 or 2 would be available in rd 2. At C the top 3 are Mack, Unger, and Luigs, possible all 3 could be there in rd 2. In FA at TE, the only decent TE is Owen Daniels who i'd love to get here but he;s and RFA which might be tricky i don't know what we'd have to give up. At C there is Matt Birk, Jason Brown, Jeff Satruday, and Brad Meester; Brown is the only one under 30 and i heard he's going to resign. So what is the answer? If I had my choice I'd sign Matt Birk to a 2 year deal and do whatever it takes to trade for Danielsor Winslow, though i would not give up a #1. Any thoughts? Also is there any precedent on whether a rookie TE or rookie C would be more apt to succeed right away?

there certainly not going for Suggs or Peppers, Bert Berry's OK, but i don't see him coming here, Orapko, Brown or Hardy will be available; i'd say its a foregone conclusion. Good thing too, b/c with our depth at DE whoever is chosen can be worked in slowly, now we just need a TE and a C.
